Prime Minister Netanyahu “determined to attack Iran before the US elections”

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “is determined to attack Iran before the US elections,” Israel’s Channel 10 News claimed last night, and Israel is now “closer than ever” to a strike designed to thwart Iran’s nuclear drive.

The TV station’s military reporter Alon Ben-David, who earlier this year was given extensive access to the Israel Air Force as it trained for a possible attack, reported that, since upgraded sanctions against Iran have failed to force a suspension of the Iranian nuclear program in the past two months, “from the prime minister’s point of view, the time for action is getting ever closer.”

Asked by the news anchor in the Hebrew-language TV report how close Israel now was to “a decision and perhaps an attack,” Ben-David said: “It appears that we are closer than ever.”

He said it seemed that Netanyahu was not waiting for a much-discussed possible meeting with US President Barack Obama, after the UN General Assembly gathering in New York late next month — indeed, “it’s not clear that there’ll be a meeting.” In any case, said Ben-David, “I doubt Obama could say anything that would convince Netanyahu to delay a possible attack.”

The report added that Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak believe Obama would have no choice but to give backing for an Israeli attack before the US presidential elections in November.

  • Here is some non conventional speculation. Suppose Iran has already made a bomb (s), as General Boykin stated on Glenn Beck’s show this year. (He was the head of US Army Intel.) If true, the recent announcements that Israeli and US Intel are in agreement on Iran could be focused on this possibility. So an attack on Iran by Israel would save face for Obama. He could say he was encouraging them through back channels while discouraging them in public in order to deceive the Iranians about the likelyhood of a strike. This of course is pure speculation.

Israel can damned well try it without any help from us….Israel always loves to rattle that sword as long as it knows America will very stupidly cover its butt….just like we did back in October of ’73 when Egypt was flat stomping Israel’s ass into a mud hole in the Sinai and the U.S. intervened with a massive airlift. Let Israel go it alone and see how it fares all by itself without the U.S. watching its six. It will richly deserve what it gets….believe me it will be no grossly asymmetrical Op Cast Lead this time. Let Israel face a nation that can fight back for a change.

As I thought from your post on the article about the discovery that Germany had made a deal with the terrorists of Black September who murdered its athletes at the Munich games — you are just filled with an insane irrational hatred of Israel who wants it and its people annihilated. But people like you cannot hide your prejudice very well, and it always shows itself in the end. Trust me, everyone who reads your post (as well as the one on the other article I mentioned) can read between the lines as to why it is you hate Israel so much. Why not just stop being a coward and say it? Everyone knows it already.

I suppose an additional word is warranted, albeit unnecessary given that your opposition to Israel seems to be motivated by the vilest forms of bigotry rather than some rational basis. But to set the record straight, Israel wasn’t sabre rattling in 1973 — it was the target of a surprise attack by Egypt and Syria whose losses from the 1967 6-day war had been replaced by the Soviet Union, whose troops were being equipped by the Communists, who were being given the top-of-the-line Soviet equipment, including the new SA-6 missile and top of the line Soviet tanks. By contrast, the United States had incorrectly decided not to sell Israel equipment following the 6-day war, and the French and British (who had previously sold Israel weaponry) reversed course in an attempt to cozy up to the Arabs (for financial interests). All the US did in 1973 was belatedly even the playing field by supporting a democracy fighting against Soviet puppets trying to destroy a sovereign nation and all of its people.

Nor can the 6-day war be blamed on Israeli sabre-rattling. Just like in 1956, the war was caused by Egypt closing a major international waterway (the straights of Tiran) to Israeli shipping in an effort to strangle Israel’s economy and weaken it to the point where its ability to sustain a military on full alert could not be sustained. Israel tried to get the international community to reopen the straights, but they basically told Israel to pound sand (including the US, sadly) and just deal with the new reality even though this was already an international act of war. Additionally, Egyptian and Syrian troops were massed on Israel’s borders while they beat the drums of war and stated their intention to destroy the nation of Israel and drive its people into the sea, meanwhile being urged on, armed, trained and supported by the Soviets.

Israel reacted by mobilizing its forces and calling up its reserves. Given this Israel had to make a choice, sit back and wait for the Syrians and Egyptians to attack at the time and place of their choosing when Israel was at its weakest and its economy was so destroyed that it could no longer keep its troops on at a level or readiness to repulse such an attack, or strike first at the time and place of its choosing. It chose the latter.

I realize filth like you don’t care about the truth, your goal is to just see as many dead Jews as possible, but for those who would like a fuller understanding of the history of Israel’s wars and our support for Israel, perhaps this will be helpful. Oh, US aid to Israel didn’t begin in earnest until AFTER the 1973 war. Israel had been able to fight and survive against overwhelming odds without US aid. Part of the reason aid to Israel began was because they were a strong bulwark against the spread of Soviet hegemony in the region (and indeed, although they’ll never admit it, the Saudi and the Jordanians are happy that this happened because it prevented those nations from being taken over as well by the Soviet financed and supported Pan Arab movement). Israel now is a strong Bulwark against the spread of radical Islam.

In addition to our duty to aid bastions of democracy against their enemies, to assist embattled democracies, we reap great practical benefits from our relationship with Israel that are too numerous to mention here. Moreover, a militarily strong Israel helps to stabilize the region. No longer will its neighbors attempt to destroy is through full scale warfare, limited now to hit-and-run operations and low grade conflict through terror. Had the United States not assisted Israel in 1973, it might well have launched nuclear weapons had it been on the verge of annihilation. I suppose a nuclear war is fine by you so long as a lot of Jews die in the process, right?

Right now, Israel faces an enemy in Iran that has demonstrated a willingness to use nuclear weapons as a first-strike weapon due to their fanatical devotion to an extremist version of Islam that seeks to bring about the end of time and the return of the 12th Imam. Israel is the little Satan in their eyes, the United States is the Great Satan. Make no mistake, Iran’s ruling class are our enemies completely independently of our support of Israel. We are allied with Israel against Iran and the rest of the Islamists because we share the same values and refuse to live in a world where religious or secular thugs will enforce their will on the rest of the world through conventional or nuclear means.

Not that I expect a guy like Bobby to ever read this post or in any way change his views based on what I wrote. But then again, people who only want to see dead Jews have little in the way of reasoning faculties.
