GOP Civil War: Herman Cain, Others Call For Third Party

Right-leaning pundits have been taking turns beating up on Mitt Romney and blaming him for the loss last night. Donald Trump just tweeted, “Congrats to @KarlRove on blowing $400 million this cycle. Every race @CrossroadsGPS ran ads in, the Republicans lost. What a waste of money.” And GOP leaders are already taking to the barricades on either side of the divide, which basically comes down to this question: Were Romney and the GOP too conservative or not conservative enough?

Steve Schmidt, a top Republican strategist who ran John McCain’s 2008 campaign, invoked the term on MSNBC this morning. “When I talk about a civil war in the Republican Party, what I mean is, it’s time for Republican elected leaders to stand up and to repudiate this nonsense [of the extreme right wing], and to repudiate it directly,” he said.

But on the other side of the fight, Herman Cain, the former presidential candidate who still has a robust following via his popular talk radio program and speaking tours, today suggested the most clear step to open civil war: secession. Appearing on Bryan Fischer’s radio program this afternoon, Cain called for a large faction of Republican Party leaders to desert the party and form a third, more conservative party.

“I never thought that I would say this, and this is the first time publicly that I’ve said it: We need a third party to save this country. Not Ron Paul and the Ron Paulites. No. We need a legitimate third party to challenge the current system that we have, because I don’t believe that the Republican Party … has the ability to rebrand itself,” Cain said.

You go, Mr. Cain…I will be glad to join a third party. Anything is better than the lame excuse for parties we have now…Republicans can’t pick a decent candidate that everyone can get behind, and the dumbocraps just want a leader that will give everything away that is American or used to be! Way to go political parties. You have screwed up this country so bad, I don’t even think a third party could get us out of this mess. Good bye America! I loved you with all my heart. Rest in peace flag. You won’t be recognized as the emblem of freedom and equality anymore. You will now be known as the “gimme” flag!

    • ginger

Agreed..and I hope we have the time to do so…obama has his eye on staying in office forever.

    • Right on!!!! Right on!!! I would call it the PEOPLE”S PARTY!!

  • The old guard in the GOP has let the rank & file down for the last time! Either they go and we get fresh blood or the masses will go!

  • Gizmo

Third party = fight against the established systems of the 2 parties, the MSM who already trivializes anyone right of Evan Bayh, money, etc.

Of course, on the other hand, a fresh name, fresh start w/o baggage. Do we have the money, fortitude, drive and LEADERSHIP for this?

We also have to fight mass mindset/worldview. As we just saw in these last 2 elections we now no longer care for what Truth is. We have no basis for truth & have moved into the absurd. Whatever we fantasize to be truth is now real. We’ve elected a PRESIDENT with no history – we know not where he was born, who his father is/was, where he was raised, how he got a CON SSN, school records? yet he/they demanded Romney’s 1040’s! This same guy lies through his TEETH about such things as Mogadishu, Israel even what he SAYS then even when confronted gets AWAY with it! Trillions of $$ lost, wasted…We have some chick in Mass that claims to be Indian… we have total outright LIES being thrown around as truth from multiple dem pundits, such as with Mourdock & Aikn.

Wow… I cannot express anything stronger right now… wow.

Guys, PLEASE READ THIS!!! Miller, Cain, Others!!! I just read this & it could be a really GOOD synergy!

  • Ron Paul and the Paulites are the legitimate alternative…..

  • Joe Bissett

OK Herman. Many of us were saddened when you withdrew, but we “understood”. I have no doubt that if you start this movement, which I can GUARANTEE you many of us will follow, we need to be sure that the same type of heat will not force you to withdraw again. Understand PLEASE!! I am not being critical of your past decision. We just need to be sure that you have considered thoroughly the consequences, and the unbelievable assaults that will face you when the useless Elite Republican Establishment actually realizes that we are deadly serious. I am tired of fighting the Liberals and the Elite Republicans, when I am busting my butt to get those same Republicans back into power.

I have given a lot of thought to third party, and I think the GOP is not a cohesive group, we had a good candidate in Romney, but they could not sell him. The Dems have pushed us to the back of the bus and now it is time for us to drive this country we love. We do need to educate people as to how our country works, how to vote for the best candidate for the country, etc. If we do nothing – this bastion of HOPE for the world and us will be gone forever. Let’s do what we have to to get the job done!!!

  • m123s

The GOP has lost its way, and will never undo what the Unfederal Reserves,IRS, the Old Media, and FDR/LBJ/BHO has done. The above represent a “System”. We are to blame, because We knew that America was founded on Christian Principles, yet quiet as the “System” became the Idol for America. We can Not fight the “System” with lesser Idol worshipers. We must REPENT in America. We must start listening, when Wisdom speaks. “We have not, because We ask amiss[for selfish reasons/destructive reasons]. America, will get it together.

Just before election day I got an email from Stanberry & Associates stating that Obama would win the election, and that he would be in the next 4 years, and his proxy in another 4 years. I found that email very disturbing and wondered how they could know that 5 days before the election. His proxy? I would stop arguing on why Romney lost the election and look at “Voterfraud.org” and see what Mr. Condit found out about the NEP, which is News Election Pool and how they took his 37,000 votes and left him with around 5,000 votes at the end of the day and gave his 32,000 to the Democrat running against he and John Boehner in 2010. News Election Pool is the central headquarters for voting tallies to be given which are then given to all the major news outlets such as AP (which is owned by Rothschild), CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, etc. I believe there was a Ron Paul factor involved in this election, and that they took his votes and gave them to Obama. That is how he won….that is my personal opinion.

    • ALL AMERICAN

Would be good to look into it asap.

    • SPCornett

Maybe, but that still doesn’t change the fact that they were fighting to eek out a victory with only half the populace on their side. Frankly, it was a losing strategy and that should have known it.

Voter fraud only works when elections are close, as in the election of Al Franken in 2008. It should never have gotten so close as to depend on total honesty to squeak by, because in this day and age you won’t get it!

  • ALL AMERICAN

    Mr. Cain, GOD BLESS YOU.
I will support your suggestion for a Strict Constitutional Conservative Party. Liberty or Death. Keep up the good fight, and once again Sir, GOD BLESS YOU.

  • I already left the so called republican party. Its really the new democrat party. I watched them try to pull off amnesty during Bushes time. I watched them steal Ron Pauls votes and lie and act like it was our fault. I watched the corruption. How about the pipeline. I watched while they were asked , will that fuel stay here for us and they refused to answer. They will sell it to get rich. Thats the sad part with the lesser of 2 evils. They are still pure evil. But I also see both parties will stop at nothing. It wont do any good for a third party, because just as they did with Ron Paul…..they will do to us again. They will steal our votes and pretend its what we want. They will change rules and do whatever they can. Boehner and Obama will have more back room meetings to keep the power between them and screw America. They are devoid of morals and decency. Love of money and power has taken their souls. Both parties! No matter who you vote in , they will just lead them with evil….just like when they voted Boehner over them. Evil.

  • The Libertarian party is is NOT only about legalizing pot, It is about being truly free. No matter what you think, you are not really free with any other party

    • Robert Wayne

I vote Constitution Party myself Jeff, but I sure like your screen name. Jefferson Davis was the last truly great president we had. At least those of us whose ancestors fought for Dixie.

  • vaquerobob

The GOP effort WAS a total EPIC FAIL on every level because it was NOT aggresively Conservative. Anyone claiming otherwise is DILLUSIONAL!!! You can NOT fight fire with milk toast! The GOP was warned what would happen if the blew this… and man did they BLOW IT!!!
Bring on the “US Constitution Party” NOW!!!

  • Folks, a third party is not what needs be done. Rather the concept espoused by Freedom Works is the ideal, “A Hostile Takeover” of the Republican Party by the TEA Party. I’m afraid it may take a while, if we survive 4 more years under Obama. A takeover of this sort begins at the local county committee level. This moves up the chain toward the state committee and finally the national level. Three million devotees to Conservatism stayed home and allowed Obama to be re-relected due to Romney’s moderate background because the “The Establishment” Republicans pushed him forward with their money and influence. These are the ones that need to be silenced in the future selection of candidates and the future course of this country (Are you listening Karl? Didn’t think so).

    • RHanabergh

Evangelicals voted in record numbers for Romney. Where did you get those figures?

  • Patroit Lady

I’s switch in a “heart-beat!” Bring it on!

  • Robert Wayne

Herman Cain is absolutely right. No more Bushes, no more McCains, no more Romneys, no more of these lousy moderates who kiss ass to scum like Obama, Reid, Pelosi and the rest of the communists who call themselves Democrats. This is one Tea Party Independent who won’t be wasting any more votes on these middle of the road GOP moderates who have no backbone and refuse to even run much of a campaign against the communists (Democrats). If my vote is going to be wasted I’m voting hard line right wing Constitution Party from now on. No more of these middle of the road Republican RINOs.

  • Lizelot

Methinks it’s a question of the tail wagging the dog, RINO’s being the tail. We can fairly easily pick their head men out of the crowd: Lugar, McCain, McConnell, Cantor (a true fence sitter), Boehner, and the Bushes one and all, just to name a few. The entire GOP leadership up until recently was RINO or leaning RINO and has been lacking spine now for quite a few years. If it’s supposed to represent conservatives of the traditional kind, why not invite these RINO’s to organize a party of faithful moderates. Wouldn’t that serve the purpose better if indeed RINOs are a numerical minority, albeit with unrepresentative muscle? No wonder the Republicans keep losing as it is internally divided and wishy washy on the issues. You can’t serve two masters or be a lifelong fence sitter–CHOOSE.

  • WILLIAM

THE COMMUNIST PARTY PUT HIM THERE FOR GOOD THEATER , THE TWO PARTY’S MAKE UP THE COMMUNIST ————- THAT WAY YOU WILL THINK YOU REALLY HAVE A CHOSE.

  • The dude

Too conservative or not conservative enough… You morons! Don’t you get it by now? This is not a contest of ideas or philosophies. If that was the case, Obama would have lost by a landslide. While we are arguing ideas, the Dems are convincing people that they are the only protection against evil white old men. White=evil. nonwhite=good. Of course, women are more empathetic and want to protect minorities against the evil white men, so they vote Dem too. I have seen this before, in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. The other sects or tribes are your enemies. Minorities have been inundated with this load of crap from birth via hundreds of thousands of hours of TV. Thanks to changing demographics, there is nothing we can do to win electorally anymore. They won. Politics is over. The constitutional republic is dead. They are going to turn the entire nation into Chicago- a corrupt, crime-ridden, poverty-stricken, nation of single party rule. Chicago hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1928. When the poor ask why the ruling dems why they are still in poverty, the dems don’t accept blame for the result of their policies, they just use racial hatred and say the rich white man is keeping you down. And it works. Despite the irrationality of the claim, it has worked for eighty straight years. That is going to be the new America. Time to stop trying to fix things through the political process, because that process no longer includes you.

  • RHanabergh

Yes we are disappointed, sad, angry, frustrated and all that. The commentary from The Dude is very illustrative, however I do not agree on throwing the towel; Not yet. A third party can make some of you feel better for a while but It will guarantee the Dems ruling for many years to come until the money really runs out and the capitals are totally gone.I lived thru the sad, unjust defeat of GHB 20 years ago courtesy of Ross Perot who championed alternative ideas. Thanks to that we had Clinton and, were not for 560 votes or so in Florida in 2000 we would not have savored the White House for 20 years-or should I say 24 yrs? That chilling perspective, like the hiatus between Hoover and Eisenhower could be nothing if the liberals continue to hold and gain power politically.A third party will ensure that.It makes more sense to spouse solid principles that have made Republicans succesful at the gubernatorial level, while at the same time not exposing themselves to the perils of the social rhetoric. You want to call them RINOS for that ? Or another favorite, like Neocons ?I do not know about labels; Pause for a moment and analize some of them.Several have been fairly succesful even in blueland and that is because of pragmatism. Now bring that to the current state of affairs;Romney was the best candidate we could offer at this point in time. You can name about 6 to 8 reasons to explain his defeat, but if you transpose this election to the demographics of 1988 or 1992, he would have won by a landslide, bigger than the one Dick Morris had predicted. Our current electoral map indicates that in order to win an election, any Republican, not just Romney, must win FL OH NC VA plus CO or IA NV or NH. This campaign proved that to win PA WI and MI are dreams of youth at least for the time being. This brings me to the next point.Check the demographics and the population projections for the next 30- 40 years. The blacks are no longer the largest minority. The hispanics are. They will be a majority in USA at around the half of the century. These two groups reproduce at larger rates than the rest, just like muslims are doing here and Europe.Democrats do little in reality to empower them but it is a matter of perception and they side with the libs.Conservatives as a whole do alienate them and that is making us no favors. So Herman, I admire you, you were insightful and funny and principled, but we need to be pragmatic if we want to preserve this Republic. To do otherwise would be unwise.I do believe we are starting to lose our nation in economic and socio-political terms but it is not too late if the right approach is taken. For starters we need to change our image and an emerging leader like Marco Rubio should start advancing immigration reform and try to enact a reasonable DREAM act. I hope he does not get burned for that and if he is succesful, that should be one of his signature moves to make him really viable for a 2016 run.

  • if the GOP was serious about wining, then they should have let Ron Paul in, but they didnt, so all those votes that they needed for their chosen one went to 3rd party or write-ins.. the GOP knew this long ago making them look like they really didnt care what party won and now it shows they didnt..yet there are those die hard republicans that still dont believe that could be true, you know, the Rush L types… goldman and sachs won the election HANDS DOWN.

    Fondling Hands
Bi partisan compromise = When the establishment Republicans (RINOS) and Democrats agree to slightly remove their fondling right hands from each other’s front pockets so they can reach further with their left to fleece, lie to and control the public.
The national leaders of the GOP establishment have become nothing more than Democrat light. They have bought into the left’s ideology that you have to buy votes by increasing the size of government and taking care of the dumbed down sheeple. Real conservatives scare the pee out of them because they just might be able to clean up Washington.
The RINOS who control the Republican Party need to be recognized for what they really are. You can supply the term. I am not supposed to use profanity in my posts on this site.

A hostile takeover of the GOP is the answer.

We NEEDED a TRULY CONSERVATIVE party before this last election in the US because a new party now is simply closing the barn door after all the livestock has run off!! The idea is good; but about a decade too late or so. And we NEEDED some leaders with the GUTS to stand up to the globalists’ ideologies and promises of “goodies” that really aren’t there!

  • RocktheBenz

The new party should be called: Conservative Party. I think the conservatives could put up a slate that would have won this election but this is the time to start forming the Conservative Party…

  • Old_Conservative

When Washington no loner represents us, becomes a cancer on the body politic, takes away our freedom, and cedes our sovereignty to the One World Order UN then we must determine whether peaceful opposition is enough. It just may be time for a second revolution to return to our Constitutional Republic roots! We have strayed a long way, and the rate of change is increasing.

  • fourr

A third party will mean more defeat and a smaller party. STOP the loser talk and band together and beat them. We must stop beating up on each other, thats why we lost. Cain and Bortz were ragging Romney all the time
instead of praising. STOP the Red Chinese people and Republicans must stick together. BUY AMERICAN FIGHT BACK STICK TOGETHER and beat the Democrats, easier immigration laws no amnesty,,,RUBIO

  • fourr

FIGHT THE RED CHINESE AND OBAMA not each other.STICK TOGETHER FOOLS…….DEMOCRATS stuck together and we argue like an old married couple…..STOP dividing the party…….ONE PARTY…..
