Police to Begin Patrolling Arkansas Streets with M-16 Style Assault Weapons

In response to a recent increase in crime, Paragould Mayor Mike Gaskill and Police Chief Todd Stovall offered residents at a town hall meeting Thursday night at West View Baptist Church what could be considered an extreme solution — armed officers patrolling the streets on foot.

Stovall told the group of almost 40 residents that beginning in 2013, the department would deploy a new street crimes unit to high crime areas on foot to take back the streets.

“[Police are] going to be in SWAT gear and have AR-15s around their neck,” Stovall said. “If you’re out walking, we’re going to stop you, ask why you’re out walking, check for your ID.”

Stovall said while some people may be offended by the actions of his department, they should not be. “We’re going to do it to everybody,” he said. “Criminals don’t like being talked to.”

Gaskill backed Stovall’s proposed actions during Thursday’s town hall. “They may not be doing anything but walking their dog,” he said. “But they’re going to have to prove it.”

Well, we are there, the communists have succeeded in installing gestapo style control over the american people! What are these people afraid of, is this town full of out of control nuts? It appears to be massive over reaction!

  • they don’t need assault weapons to do this it’s way over the top

  • Hologram5

I’m not a criminal and I do not like this. Where in the laws does it say we have to give our ID on demand? Where does it say we have to tell them what we’re doing on demand? It DOESN’T! The elites are taking too much now and as a complacent society (Full of SHEEP) we will do nothing right?

  • FactMonger

Would anyone care to explain what happened to probable cause? I mean, the Gestapo? You know…they’re REALLY, REALLY, PUSHING THE POPULACE. Gun sales for AR 15’s and the like have SKYROCKETED since Newtown. I hope these assholes know what they’re doing. You want to act like a fuckin commie, we’re gonna treat you like one.

  • Robert Young

AR 15’s are NOT assault weapons. They are the semi-automatic look-a-likes to the M 16 Assault Rifles. Their armament does not bother me near as much as their stopping citizens legally walking and questioning them as to why they are there. Sounds too much like the German Gestapo “May I see your papers.”

  • Bert

Great idea! Keep the law abiding safe.

  • Teapartyjoe

I guess with Obama and Holder in office, they can do this, as long as they don’t stop illegals and ask for their papers, right!

  • 1_Eddie_1

Where are your papers? Why are you outside of your home? Who gave you travel permission? Up against the wall, I have to search you! Rat-a-tat-tat! That one won’t walk around at night anymore, hah, hah, hah.
Arkansas now has a police state on it’s hands. Law abiding people have the right of not being molested by the police. Suspicious activity is one thing, but not all activity is suspicious or criminal.

  • Yes I would be offended. I don’t like to be bothered either and I won’t be engaged in any criminality and if you have an attitude you’ll really annoy me. I can’t stop you from stopping me, but if you ask why I’m out walking I will tell you it is none of your business for it is none of your business.

You can “check” for my I.D., or as they would say in Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union, my papers, but the law does not require I carry ID when I walk, so good luck on that one. Just because your out there and you want to see it does not oblige me to take it along.

This is worth reading. Get yourself informed. Research now for the time it happens to you where you live so you won’t then be caught unprepared.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Germany in the 1930’s and the Soviet Union, anybody looked at some truthful History lately?
