In an unprecedented show of opposition to abortion, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is delaying the start of the party’s annual winter meeting so he and other committee members can join the March for Life on the Mall, The Washington Times has learned.

Mr. Priebus, a plain-spoken Greek Orthodox lawyer from Wisconsin, will join members of his party’s national committee and thousands of other abortion opponents in the annual right-to-life march scheduled for Jan. 22, the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision that declared abortion a constitutional right.

“I saw that there was a real interest among a significant portion of our members to attend and support the Rally for Life,” Mr. Priebus said in an email to The Times. “This is a core principle of our party. It was natural for me to support our members and our principles.”

Mr. Priebus, in his second term as elected chairman of the Republican National Committee, chose to delay the start of the four-day winter meeting of the GOP governing body, also scheduled in Washington, to allow himself and RNC members to attend the march. The delay is unprecedented for a major U.S. political party, several state Republican Party chairmen and other RNC members said in telephone interviews.

This is a good START. However, it is ONLY a start!

No, not a good start. Hitting the abortion issue big time is a big mistake for the GOP. Social issues are the demise of the GOP. Jobs and the economy are what they should be attacking. Abortion should not be a federal issue. It is a losing proposition for the GOP. When will they learn? Never, is my guess.

The first RIGHT mentioned in THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE is the right to LIFE!
Every single right that you and your children have Mr. Dad, both listed and unlisted, is dependent upon THE RIGHT TO LIFE. Without the government guaranteeing the Ultimate Right to LIFE, all of the others matter not a wit! As evidence I present to you our society here in the United States since 1973 when the right to Life was found not to exist. Welcome to the upcoming death panels.

I did not say there was not a right to life. I’m saying that beginning a campaign to take back the senate with an abortion issue is political suicide.

We appear to be allies with slightly different points of view on the same issue.

IF and only if, the “abortion issue” had not been made an issue by the progressives of BOTH parties since the late 1960’s in an attempt to eradicate an unwanted minority in the country and world, we would have no need for this discussion.

Unfortunately, they did and we do.

Just “taking back the senate” has no value if we continue down the same path that we have been travelling for the last century.

This action of attending a march by the leadership of the party MAY, I repeat, MAY, bring many former members of the Republican Party back into the fold. This starts with me!

And while I totally agree that the Republican Party is in the process of committing “political suicide”, it was not the abortion “issue” that has caused it.

Finally I thank God that we are still able to discuss subjects as these in an open forum.
May peace be with you and your family!

Yes, we are definitely allies. What is not understood by many is that the abortion issue is not important to many folks despite what it may seem to you. The GOP needs to understand that jobs, economy and national security are the big gun issues in order for Americans to take back America. Dallying in the social issues of out time is exactly what the dems want us to do. This is where the ignorant and uninformed are most prevalent and so easily persuaded whereas jobs and one’s livelihood are the only issues that can trump those the dems want the GOP to stay with. Happy New Year to you and yours.
