Watch the Moment Surfer Mick Fanning Was Attacked by Shark During Competition

Professional surfer Mick Fanning survived a shark attack during an international competition in South Africa on Sunday after fighting off the animal with his fists.

The Australian, 34, was paddling his board out of the shallows when the animal’s fin emerged alongside him.

During a heart-stopping 15 seconds broadcast on live television, Fanning was knocked off his board and tussled with the unidentified species of shark, using his board as a shield as he punched the animal on the back.

Back on dry land, he said: “I was just sitting there and I felt something just get stuck in my leg rope, and I was kicking trying to get it away. I punched him in the back”.

“I instantly just jumped away. It kept coming at my board and I was kicking and screaming. I just saw fins. I was waiting for the teeth.” (Read more from “Watch the Moment Surfer Mick Fanning Was Attacked by Shark During Competition” HERE)
