The owner of the famous Coachella music festival, Philip Anschutz, is a conservative. Despite the fact that his political leanings have been well-documented over the years, 2019 is apparently the year liberal fans of the event intend to make a fuss about it.
Anschutz, who is also the CEO of AEG, donated more than $1 million to conservative causes in 2016, and gave nearly $200,000 to Republicans in 2017. He has donated to Republican candidates dating back nearly 30 years.
Some people appear to just be finding out about this for the first time, and even though his personal political views and activities seem to be perfectly normal and have no impact on the festival itself, calls for a boycott began swelling on social media.
Philip Anschutz, the owner of Golden Voice/Coachella, was a Republican mega-donor who gave over $1,000,000 to conservatives during the 2016 election and close to $200,000 to Republican politicians in 2017.
I’m glad no metal bands are playing. No band with any integrity should. https://t.co/nXR3pL7FNT

the money that is funded for coachella not only goes to the performers and whatever else-
but to organizations that PROMOTE climate denial and anti-LGBT sentiment and pro-gun alliances and $134,000 to the republican senatorial committee in 2018 alone. pic.twitter.com/rSCQsFNJGx

the coachella lineup has been released, so let’s all take a second to remember how horrific of a person the founder is and why it is an event that should not be supported 🙂 pic.twitter.com/b0J0cWVgn4

Why should #Coachella attendees give their hard earned money to the people funding a divisive #Republican agenda?
Lineup artists be informed & consider #facts. Stand for something before you fall for anything! @ArianaGrande @donaldglover @tameimpala #Integrity #Resist https://t.co/p6rkyLKU0t
