Miller and Murkowski Differ Greatly on the Right to Life

Anchorage, Alaska. August 23, 2010 — The Alaska Family Council issued a voter guide for the Joe Miller and Lisa Murkowski. Joe is pro-life and Lisa is not. She was one of a handful of Republican Senators to vote to affirm “Roe v. Wade” as the law of the land. The sense of the Senate vote read in part, “(1) the decision of the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade (410 U.S. 113 (1973) was appropriate and secures an important constitutional right; and (2) such decision should not be overturned (See S.Amdt. 260 to S. 3, March 12, 2003). She also voted to allow taxpayer funds to go to groups that provide abortions within the United States and overseas, and for taxpayer funded embryonic stem cell research (See S.Amdt. 3330 to S.Amdt. 3325 to H.R. 3043, October 18, 2007 S.Admt. 2708 to H.R. 2764, September 6, 2007 and Senate Bill 5, April 11, 2007). “The right to life is the most basic of all rights and specifically guaranteed in the 5th and 14th Amendments and in the Declaration of Independence. I do not understand why the Senator is unwilling to protect the most vulnerable among us,” said Miller.

The Alaska Right to Life has endorsed Joe Miller. The group’s president, Dr. Christie Eberhardt, said, “It is so encouraging to have such a solid pro-life candidate running for office. We are saddened and disappointed with Sen. Murkowski’s anti-life voting record; we call on all pro-life Alaskans to support Joe Miller.”
