Rare Win: One Year After ‘Chaz’, Republican Wins Seattle City Attorney

Republican Ann Davison was elected City Attorney of Seattle on Tuesday, a rare Republican win in the liberal city — just over a year after parts of it were taken over by left-wing activists in the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” (CHAZ).

The Seattle Times reported:

Republican Ann Davison held a strong 58% to 41% lead in the race for Seattle city attorney, with returns Tuesday showing voters rejecting the brash language of her police abolitionist opponent, Nicole Thomas-Kennedy, in favor of Davison’s law-and-order stance.

No race in Tuesday’s city election was more fraught with the potential for unpredictable consequences than the race for Seattle’s official lawyer, who traditionally has prosecuted minor crimes and provided legal advice and defense for the city and its employees, including police.

McDonald’s CEO’s Text to Chicago Mayor Sparks ‘Racism’ Protest

McDonald’s head honcho Chris Kempczinski is under fire over a text message he sent to Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot about shootings in the city that critics say was “racist” and “ignorant.”

Protesters say the message — sent on April 19 but revealed Tuesday — appeared to blame parents who “failed” their children.

“p.s. tragic shootings in last week, both at our restaurant yesterday and with Adam Toldeo [sic]. With both, the parents failed those kids which I know is something you can’t say. Even harder to fix,” he said, according to WBEZ Chicago, which obtained the text through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The text was sent shortly after Lightfoot had visited the McDonald’s headquarters and appeared to be referring to the deaths of Jaslyn Adams, 7, who was killed the day before the text in her father’s car outside a Chicago area McDonald’s, and Adam Toledo, 13, who was fatally shot by police the month prior. . .

Activist groups are reportedly planning a protest Wednesday outside the McDonald’s headquarters. (Read more from “McDonald’s CEO’s Text to Chicago Mayor Sparks ‘Racism’ Protest” HERE)

Woke Pope Compares Climate Change to World War II

Pope Francis sent a striking message to the U.N. Climate Conference in Glasgow Tuesday, in which he compared the effects of climate change to those of World War II.

“The wounds inflicted on our human family by the Covid-19 pandemic and the phenomenon of climate change are comparable to those resulting from a global conflict,” the pope said in his message to COP26, read aloud in Glasgow by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

“Today, as in the aftermath of the Second World War, the international community as a whole needs to set as a priority the implementation of collegial, solidary and farsighted actions,” the pontiff continued.

A little further along, Francis returned to the same analogy, forecasting that “in the near future, environmental migrants will be more numerous than refugees from war and conflicts.”

In his message, the pope urged the world’s leaders to take up “the vital task of demonstrating to the entire international community whether there really exists a political will to devote – with honesty, responsibility and courage – greater human, financial and technological resources to mitigating the negative effects of climate change.” (Read more from “Woke Pope Compares Climate Change to World War II” HERE)

Social Media Companies Blame COVID for Censorship

Social media companies still use COVID-19 staff shortages to justify removing content that doesn’t violate platform rules.

Both Twitter and Facebook scaled back human reviews of content in the early days of the pandemic. The companies employ contractors to sift through material that may break their sites’ rules, and said many contractors could not do that work from home. Two years on, both companies blame the effects of COVID-19 for erroneous content removal and the suspension of users’ ability to appeal the censorship of their content.

Both social media giants have increased content restrictions throughout the pandemic, even while claiming they can’t adequately review removals. Twitter and Facebook rolled out new initiatives to ban or hide speech that suggested COVID-19 came from a Wuhan lab, although that theory has gained traction in the scientific community. Twitter regularly suspends politicians and other users who question vaccine mandates.

Both Twitter and Facebook switched to remote work in March 2020. Twitter said at the time it would rely on “machine learning and automation” to “take a wide range of actions on potentially abusive and manipulative content,” and acknowledged that this change would lead to more mistakes and incorrect penalties for users.

Although Twitter previously said the increased use of automated systems was a temporary move during the pandemic, a Twitter spokeswoman told the Washington Free Beacon the company would continue to “utilize machine learning” to enforce Twitter rules. The spokeswoman did not say whether Twitter would increase human review. (Read more from “Social Media Companies Blame COVID for Censorship” HERE)

Is a Republican Upset Brewing in New Jersey?

Glenn Youngkin has clinched the governor’s race in Virginia. In fact, the GOP dominated the Old Dominion, sweeping all three major statewide races. Republicans won the lieutenant governor and attorney general races. They’re poised to flip the House of Delegates. It’s over in Virginia—but up the road on I-95, we have another close race in New Jersey. Yes, you read that right. The state has been a graveyard for Republicans, except for Chris Christie, Tom Kean, and Christine Todd Whitman. No one thought Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy was in danger. No one thought this was going to be a competitive race. It is. It’s tight. Even if Phil Murphy ekes out a win, it’s nowhere near the margin of his 2017 victory.

The message is clear. Not even the deep blue sanctuary that is the Garden State can stomach the far Left’s agenda. Joe Biden won New Jersey by 16 points in 2020—and we’re in a dead heat here. In some counties, Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli is overperforming Chris Christie’s 2009 levels.

40 Senate Republicans to Challenge Biden Vaccine Mandate

Forty Senate Republicans led by Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.), the ranking member of a Senate committee on employment and workforce safety, say they will use the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to challenge President Biden’s new order requiring large employers to mandate COVID-19 vaccinations.

The Biden administration is expected this week to issue a new rule mandating vaccination requirements at businesses with more than 100 employees. The rule will affect as many as 80 million workers, and those who don’t comply face stiff fines.

Braun and other Republicans will attempt to force the Senate to vote on a resolution disapproving of the rule. It must be passed by the Senate and the House, both of which Democrats control, and be signed into law by the president.

If Biden vetoes the disapproval resolution, Republicans would have to muster a two-thirds vote in each chamber to override the veto and stop the rule from taking effect.

Their effort is expected to fall short because Democrats control 50 Senate seats, but it could be a tough vote for vulnerable incumbents up for reelection next year. (Read more from “40 Senate Republicans to Challenge Biden Vaccine Mandate” HERE)

‘Rust’ Armorer’s Attorney Suggests Sabotage May Have Led to Fatal On-Set Shooting

An attorney for the armorer on the movie set where actor Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer said Wednesday that he believes someone might have been trying to sabotage the set by putting a live round in a box of dummy ammunition.

“How did a live round get on set, and who put that live round on the set?” Jason Bowles, an attorney for “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, asked on NBC’s “TODAY” show.

Robert Gorence, Gutierrez-Reed’s other attorney, also joined the interview.

“There was a box of dummy rounds labeled ‘dummy,'” Bowles said. “We don’t know whether the live round came from that box. We’re assuming somebody put the live round in that box.” (Read more from “‘Rust’ Armorer’s Attorney Suggests Sabotage May Have Led to Fatal On-Set Shooting” HERE)

Minneapolis Votes to Keep Police Department

Voters in Minneapolis shot down an attempt to replace the city’s police department with a Department of Public Safety, setting back the police reform movement across the country.

Election results showed that 57% voted against and 43% in favor of City Question 2, with 92% of precincts reporting. Question 2 asked if an amendment to the city charter should “remove the Police Department and replace it with a Department of Public Safety that employs a comprehensive public health approach … which will not be subject to exclusive mayoral power.”

Officials such as Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Gov. Tim Walz, and Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, all Democrats, were opposed to the measure. (Read more from “Minneapolis Votes to Keep Police Department” HERE)

Biden Lies, Claims Wages Rising Faster Than Inflation

Recent figures published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics contradict President Biden’s claim Tuesday that wage growth for American workers has outpaced inflation in recent months.

Biden made the claim during his press conference at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow after he was pressed to explain when Americans could expect the cost of everyday items such as gas and food to decline. Inflation rose to 5.4% in September compared to one year earlier, matching its highest rate in 13 years.

“Things are a hell of a lot better,” Biden said. “The wages have gone up higher, faster than inflation and we have generated real economic growth. It doesn’t mean these dislocations aren’t real. They do affect people’s lives.”

Wages have increased in recent months amid intense competition in the labor market, rising 0.6% in September, or 4.6% year-over-year. But statistics suggest that inflation has prevented the average American worker from reaping the benefits. (Read more from “Biden Lies, Claims Wages Rising Faster Than Inflation” HERE)
