Letter from Joe to Republican Primary Voters

Dear Alaskan Voter:

In a few short days you will have an opportunity to cast your vote in the Alaska Republican Primary Election. But between now and then, there are a few misunderstandings that I would like to clear up. Senator Murkowski continues to protest that her record is being distorted, and that my Campaign is being financed by the California-based Tea Party Express. Both accusations are false.

I applaud Senator Murkowski for voting “no” on the initial Obamacare bill. What is at issue is the Senator’s response to the passage of Obamacare. On March 30, 2010 Senator Murkowski said, “Repealing this [Obamacare] is not the answer in my opinion.” The facts will bear out that the final reconciliation bill was signed into law on March 30, 2010 – the very day Senator Murkowski made her case against full repeal in the Senate Republican Conference, and proclaimed on public television that repeal was “not the answer.” It then took her almost four months to the day, and significant political pressure, to sign on to the Republican repeal bill on July 29, 2010.

Even KTUU reporter Rhonda McBride understood the Senator to say that Obamacare “should be viewed as a work in progress.” Such a view is consistent with Murkowski’s remarks at an Anchorage Healthcare Town Hall on August 20, 2009. She said, “It’s not so much that the government run plan is in and of itself a bad thing … what we have to have is a government-run plan that actually works.” I have a fundamental disagreement with the Senator on whether government should be taking over 1/5 of our economy, even if it “works.” We need a Senator who will stand up and fight the Statists in power, not negotiate the terms of our surrender. It is time for a return to Constitutional government. It is the only answer to our economic woes, and to a deeper financial crisis looming on the horizon, if we continue down this path.

“In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem” – Ronald Reagan

As for Campaign finance, the Tea Party Express is an independent organization that works in the interests of limited government and individual liberty. I have no control over what they do, or the money they invest in their campaign. I have received no money from the Tea Party Express, while Senator Murkowski has received 88% of her 2009-10 contributions from outside the state. Her accusations against me seem a little bit like the pot calling the kettle black.

With the election just days away, I want to take this opportunity to talk directly with you about the future of the country we love. These are serious times that demand serious leadership. In the race for United States Senate, your choice is clear: you can either vote for the ‘business as usual’ incumbent, or you can opt for bold new leadership in Washington. I am committed to getting this nation back on the right path.

These are momentous times, and the ongoing saga of this election is more than just a family feud. It is a time for choosing between the policies that have cast a pall of darkness over our economic future, and solutions that are time-tested and sure to bring maximum benefit and opportunity to every American. We shouldn’t have to spend our sunset years remembering the good old days when men were free and life was good. Our children deserve an opportunity to face the future with the same hope and anticipation that we once did.

Though she is flooding the airwaves saying otherwise, Senator Murkowski has consistently been on the wrong side of the issues that matter most to Alaskans. She has been part of the big spending, big government brigade in Washington. From her vote in favor of Big Bank and Wall Street bailouts to Co-Sponsoring Cap and Trade legislation in the 110th Congress, to the expansion of the Entitlement State and her wobbly stance on Obamacare, Murkowski has earned a reputation in Washington as one of the go-to Senators for a Republican swing-vote on liberal issues.

“One of the reasons why I’m in favor of less government, is because when you have more government, industrialists take it over.” – Milton Friedman

If you honor me with your vote, I pledge to stand up to the President’s radical agenda and work to rein in government spending, repeal Obamacare, reform the tax code, and promote a culture of life. I am under no illusions about the challenges our country is facing. But it is my firm belief that with courage, hard work and a little good fortune we can begin a new era of American prosperity.

Let’s stand up to the failed policies of the past. Give me your vote, and your voice will be heard in Washington. Join with me to take our country back!

Yours for the Future,

Joe Miller

Candidate for United States Senate
