By Daily Wire. The New York judge presiding over Donald Trump’s hush-money trial fined the former president $9,000 and threatened him with jail time for social media posts the judge said violated a court-imposed gag order.

Judge Juan Merchan wrote in an order on Tuesday that Trump had violated a gag order against speaking out about several people involved in the trial nine times. Merchan fined the former president $1,000 for each violation and ordered him to delete the posts in question from Truth Social and Trump’s campaign website.

The judge warned Trump that additional violations of the gag order could result in jail time for the former president. Merchan complained that he is not legally allowed to fine Trump more than $1,000 for each violation, arguing that heftier fines, potentially as large as $150,000, would be more likely to produce the desired effect.

“Criminal contempt is punishable by a fine not exceeding $ 1,000, by jail not exceeding 30 days or by both in the discretion of the court, for each violation of a court order. … However, the Judiciary Law does not vest the Court with authority to craft an appropriate punishment when a $1,000 fine will not achieve the intended purpose,” Merchan wrote. Trump Responds to Gag Order Fine, Says Judge Is ‘Rigging’ 2024 Election

By Daily Wire. Former President Donald Trump said Judge Juan Merchan is “rigging” the 2024 presidential election after the judge slapped Trump with a $9,000 fine and threatened to jail him for social media posts that violated his gag order in the New York hush-money trial.

Merchan wrote in an order on Tuesday that Trump had violated his gag order nine times, fining him $1,000 for each offense. The former president is prohibited from commenting on potential witnesses, jurors, court staff, attorneys, and members of the judge’s family. Prosecutors urged Merchan to take action on Trump for violating the gag order, pointing to posts he made on his social media site Truth Social or his campaign website about Michael Cohen, Stormy Daniels, and the jury pool.

“This Judge has taken away my Constitutional Right to FREE SPEECH,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Tuesday afternoon. “I am the only Presidential Candidate in History to be GAGGED. This whole ‘Trial’ is RIGGED, and by taking away my FREEDOM OF SPEECH, THIS HIGHLY CONFLICTED JUDGE IS RIGGING THE PRESIDENTIAL OF 2024 ELECTION. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!!!”

Six States Sue Biden Admin Over New Title IX Protections for Biological Men in Girls’ Sports

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti and Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced on Tuesday that they are leading six states in suing the Department of Education (ED) due to the overhaul of Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act.

Court documents show that the lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

The Biden administration has unveiled new rules aimed at safeguarding LGBTQ+ students and changing the ways in which sexual harassment and assault claims are adjudicated on campus.

Skrmetti and Coleman are targeting new provisions that are part of a revised Title IX regulation issued by the ED, fulfilling a campaign pledge by President Biden to revamp those issued during the Trump administration.

Space Laser Transmission Strikes Earth From 140 Million Miles Away: NASA

. . .Earth just received a laser transmission from a world- (and perhaps universe-) record-breaking 140 million miles away — which could have major implications for the future of space travel.

However, this correspondence wasn’t extraterrestrial in origin: It was actually sent by NASA’s Psyche spacecraft, which is currently located approximately 1.5 times the distance between Earth and the sun.

“This represents a significant milestone for the project by showing how optical communications can interface with a spacecraft’s radio frequency comms system,” Meera Srinivasan, the project’s operations lead at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, said in a statement.

This major breakthrough was achieved by using a Psyche feature called Deep Space Optical Communications, or DSOC, one of the droid’s several tasks per Space.com. Its main directive is exploring 16 Psyche, the asteroid from which it takes its name.

NASA wanted to show the potential for laser communications to be conducted across interstellar distances, allowing for high bandwidth and a much speedier connection — from 10 to 100 times faster than what’s available today — between humans and the probes they send into space. Report: White House Considers Inviting Gaza Palestinians as Refugees

The White House has reportedly been considering whether or not to accept Palestinians from Gaza as refugees amid Israel’s war with Hamas.

According to internal federal documents obtained by CBS News, senior officials in the Biden administration and U.S. agencies have “discussed the practicality of different options to resettle Palestinians from Gaza who have immediate family members who are American citizens or permanent residents.”

The documents show that welcoming Palestinians under the United States Refugee Admissions Program has been proposed as a means to bring people into the country from war-torn Gaza. CBS News added:

Top U.S. officials have also discussed getting additional Palestinians out of Gaza and processing them as refugees if they have American relatives, the documents show. The plans would require coordination with Egypt, which has so far refused to welcome large numbers of people from Gaza.

Potential refugees would need to pass various security and medical screenings before they could be granted access to the United States and the numerous benefits associated with refugee resettlement in the country, including permanent residency, housing assistance, and a pathway to American citizenship. Most Migrants Paroled Under Biden Administration Are Flying to This State, Subpoenaed Docs Show

The bulk of migrants who qualify for the Biden administration’s mass parole program are flying into Florida, subpoenaed documents released Tuesday by the House Homeland Security Committee show.

Under President Biden’s controversial border policy, migrants from Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti and Venezuela who obtain a US sponsor, pass a background check and demonstrate that parole is warranted based on significant public benefit or urgent humanitarian reasons are allowed to fly into US ports of entry, where they will receive work permits and authorization to remain in the country for two years. . .

Landmark Shift Against Gender Ideology: Sex Defined as Biological Sex

The transgender agenda, the belief that men can simply say they are women and they are women, has hit headwinds with a new decision by the National Health Service in the United Kingdom.

A report in the Telegraph explains that the organization that serves the health care concerns of millions has proposed a definition change that states sex is a matter of biology.

The report noted that’s a “landmark shift against gender ideology.”

The change means, among other things, that men who claim to be women now are banned from women-only wards, and women have the right to request a female physician for intimate care.

A Canadian Conservative Leader was ejected from the House of Commons during a Tuesday session after defying the Speaker and hurling insults at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Pierre Poilievre was ejected for the remainder of the day after clashing with House Speaker Greg Fergus, according to Daily Wire. Poilievre’s incendiary remarks describing Trudeau’s drug policy as “wacko” instigated the exchange. During a question period, Poilievre attacked Trudeau’s policy, which drew applause from his Conservative colleagues. However, Fergus, a member of the Liberal Party, called the language unparliamentary and demanded a retraction. . .

“There are a couple of things that are going on here today that are not acceptable. And I ask all members, please, to control themselves,” Fergus said, Daily Wire reported. “I’m going to ask the honorable leader of the opposition to withdraw that term which is not considered parliamentary.”

Study Finds That Renting Is Cheaper Than Buying a Home in All 50 of America’s Largest Metro Areas

Renting has become more affordable than buying a home in 50 of the largest metro areas in the United States, a recent study reveals.

The analysis, performed by Bankrate, found that it costs about 37 percent more a month to buy a home than to rent nationwide. The cost disparity is largely a product of rising home prices, increased mortgage rates, and a slowdown in rent hikes, the study noted.

The average monthly rent payment is $1,979 while the average monthly payment on a $412,778 home, the median price, is just over $2,703. The average monthly mortgage rate, meanwhile, is 7.33 percent as of April 17th, 2024, a three percent increase since March 2022.

While the trend is persistent across the 50 largest metropolitan areas in the United States, the disparity between the costs of renting and buying a home vary wildly depending on location.

The analysis uses the buy-to-rent ratio, which compares “typical monthly mortgage payments to typical monthly rent payments.” The disparity is most drastic in California’s Bay Area, with a buy-to-rent ratio of over 180 percent in San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley and a 162 percent ratio in San Jose, Sunnyvale, and Santa Clara.
