Accidental Voice Message Raises Questions

Anchorage, Alaska. October 30, 2010 — In an apparent accidental voice mail message left on the cell phone of Joe Miller’s spokesperson, Randy DeSoto, what is believed to be the news director for CBS Anchorage affiliate KTVA, along with assignment editor Nick McDermott, and other reporters, openly discuss creating, if not fabricating, two stories about Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, Joe Miller.   The voice mail message was later authenticated by Mr. McDermott, who sent a text to DeSoto stating “Damn iPhone … I left you a long message.  I thought I hung up.  Sorry.”

“Frankly, when I first heard this I was shocked,” said DeSoto. “Though a bit garbled at times, there are disturbing comments in this conservation that never should have occurred.”

In the first discussion, the KTVA reporters discuss getting a list of Miller campaign supporters in order to ‘find’ a “child molester.”  “You have to find that one person,” says the male reporter, to laughter in the news room. The reporters at KTVA then discuss creating a “Rand Paul” incident at the then upcoming Miller Rally (held on October 28, 2010) and hoping for violence so that they can “send out a tweet” and “Facebook” that “Miller got punched” at the rally.

Attached is a transcript of the conversation from KTVA reporters.

When Confronted with the Lie, Lisa Ducks the Question

One week after claiming support of prominent Democrats, Lisa fails to address lie about NRA endorsement

Anchorage, Alaska. October 27, 2010 — In a display of political double-speak that only eight years in Washington DC can perfect, Senator Lisa Murkowski seemingly defended her campaign’s recent false use of an endorsement from the NRA of her write-in bid for the Senate.

Just days after Lisa’s campaign was called on the carpet by the Democrats for falsely claiming the support of Alaska Democrat nominee for Governor Ethan Berkowitz and Washington Senator Patty Murray (a member of the Democrat leadership), she defended her campaign’s use of an endorsement that, in reality, does not exist. Murkowski said she apologized to Berkowitz, but the burning question is, why has she not apologized to the Alaskan people, whom she has misled?

According to the November edition of the NRA’s American Rifleman, the flagship publication of one of the nation’s premier organizations in support of gun rights, the group is NOT endorsing Lisa Murkowski in her write-in campaign for Senate as she has claimed in campaign literature and mailings (mailer side 1, mailer side 2). To extend her pattern of saying anything to get elected, Senator Murkowski today tweeted, “I am the only Alaska Senate Candidate to Receive an NRA Endorsement.” She did…in the primary – the same primary in which Joe Miller garnered an ‘A’ rating just as he received in the the general election. The NRA’s own publication contradicts her…again

“This is yet another example of Lisa saying anything and everything in her desperate attempts to keep the Senate seat her father gave her. She had a ‘D’ rating in the state house and voted in favor of Eric Holder’s nomination for U.S. Attorney General. There is only one candidate running for Senate that is a true supporter of the 2nd Amendment and I am that candidate,” Joe Miller said.

Miller Will Not Appeal, Continues to Look to the Issues for the Last Week of the Campaign

Anchorage, Alaska. October 26, 2010 — Today, Joe Miller, the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate, accepted the court’s ruling regarding the release of his personnel records from the Fairbanks North Star Borough. Although these records are confidential under both State and Borough law, an appeal to oppose the release was rejected by Miller. “I appear to be the only candidate in this Senate race whose entire life history matters to the media. No one has requested school, medical or work records for Senator Lisa Murkowski or Scott McAdams. Regardless, I am willing to let these records go public so that the people can see that the computer polling matter and my decision to leave the Borough’s employment a year-a-half later were unrelated,” said Miller.

Joe Miller also stated: “The Alaskan voters want to hear about the issues. That’s what they deserve and I will continue to address them. I am running for the Senate because I believe that Alaskans deserve more than the status quo. The fact of the matter is, Lisa Murkowski knows her days are numbered and that change is coming to D.C. — I represent that change.”

Miller Raises Over $1 Million Online

Demonstrates Grassroots Campaign’s Continuing Momentum

Anchorage, Alaska. October 22, 2010 — Joe Miller, the Republican Nominee for the U.S. Senate, released the following statement today as his campaign raised over $1 million in online donations since Senator Lisa Murkowski broke her word and announced she was running as a write-in candidate:

“$1 million from over 12,000 small contributions online reinforces our message that our grassroots campaign is continuing its momentum. The online donors share my concern that our nation is headed in the wrong direction and Lisa Murkowski has been a large part of the problem in Washington, D.C. Alaskans are sick and tired of the out-of-control spending, borrowing and bailouts, they want real change. In the Senate I will work to see that the Alaskan taxpayers are not put on the hook for more wasteful spending and that much needed jobs are brought back to the state.”

Murkowski Bailout of Fannie and Freddie Could Double

Lisa Supported Bailouts Could Cost Taxpayers More than $1 Trillion

Anchorage, Alaska. October 22, 2010 — Joe Miller, the Republican nominee of U.S. Senate, made the following statement today in response to media reports that the latest projections by the companies’ regulator that the bailout may be $363 billion, more than double what the Treasury has injected into the companies.

“Lisa has supported bailouts (TARP, Fannie & Freddie) that could cost the American taxpayers more than $1 trillion. I’m sure those votes made Lisa very popular with her lobbyist friends and bankers on Wall Street, but voters here on Main Street know that it’s our children and grandchildren who will be paying for this for generations to come. In the 8 years that Lisa has been in the Senate the national debt has more than doubled. It’s time for Lisa to come back to Alaska before she does any more damage to our economy and our future.”

Miller Invites Murkowski to Join Call to Pull “Alaskans Standing Together” Ads

Republican nominee to ask stations to pull ads paid for by illegal federal contributions
Anchorage, Alaska. October 21, 2010 —  Republican nominee for U.S. Senate Joe Miller invited U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski to join him in calling for Alaska television stations to pull the ads paid for by “Alaskans Standing Together” (“AST”), in light of a complaint filed to the Federal Election Commission, and details that federal contractors likely violated federal election law in laundering millions to prop-up Murkowski’s write-in bid.

In his letter to Senator Murkowski, Joe Miller said:

“Since ‘Alaskans Standing Together’ exists for the sole-purpose of supporting your candidacy, I am sure that you are disgusted and appalled that they would undermine the integrity of your campaign and this election by acting in violation of federal election laws and federal laws prohibiting the use of federal tax dollars for political purposes.

There is simply no place in our elections for this type of fraudulent and illegal activity. As the candidate who stands to directly gain from these, I’m sure you do not want your candidacy tainted by this scandal.”

Miller also released the following statement, “Contrary to the statements made yesterday by ‘AST’, federal law is clear on the prohibitions against contractors participating in federal elections and Lisa has a choice to make. With her earlier protests against ‘outside’ influences in this election, she can take the principled stand for the law and the integrity of our election. Or, Lisa Murkowski can do what she and so many other politicians in D.C. have done for years. She can turn her back to corrupt and unethical behavior or let self interest be her moral guide.”

Nine Benefactors of “Alaskans Standing Together” in Violation of Federal Election Law

Complaint Reveals Federal Contractors Illegally Spending Millions to Re-Elect Murkowski

Anchorage, Alaska. October 20, 2010 — The Joe Miller for U.S. Senate Campaign Committee today filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission alleging that nine benefactors of “Alaskans Standing Together” (“AST”) and two of its officers have acted in violation of federal law in trying to influence the Alaska U.S. Senate election on behalf of Senator Lisa Murkowski.

According to the complaint, Arctic Slope Regional Corporation Ahtna, Inc., Bering Straits Native Corporation, Calista Corporation, Chugach Alaska Corporation, Sealaska Corporation, NANA Regional Corporation, Koniag, Inc., and Doyon, Ltd., are all contributors to “Alaskans Standing Together” and “are major suppliers of goods and services to the federal government…” according to the Alaska 8(a) Association Mission Statement.

Federal Election Laws specifically prohibit federal contractors from making contributions or expenditures related to federal elections. According to the complaint, “nine of these corporate entities that are part of the scheme that has received billions in federal funds and contract with the federal government contributed a total of $805,000 to AST, which has now reported making ‘independent’ expenditures in the US Senate race in support of Lisa Murkowski, totaling $595,000 to date.”

Republican nominee for U.S. Senate Joe Miller released the following statement:

“Even by Washington D.C. standards, the level of corruption shown by ‘Alaskans Standing Together’ and Lisa Murkowski is shocking. Their efforts to preserve the status quo and re-elect their ‘bought and paid for’ Senator are not even bound by the law. The Alaskan Native Corporations have reaped billions from questionable set-asides and federal contracting programs and Senator Murkowski has fought efforts to reform them. We now know why.”

From the complaint filed by the Miller campaign:

Federal law prohibiting the use of federal funds for political purposes is clear – and Respondents Jason Moore, Barbara Donatelli and AST have violated the statute by soliciting such funds from the contractor donor Respondents and each of them have violated federal law by contributing federal contractor funds for a political purposes.
