‘Extremely Tense’ as Russians Bid to Encircle Ukraine’s Bakhmut — Commander

By Arab News. The situation in the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut was “extremely tense” on Tuesday, the commander of Ukrainian ground forces said, as Russian troops besieging it stepped up their assault in a bid to encircle it.

Russia is trying to cut the Ukrainian defenders’ supply lines to the city, the scene of some of the war’s toughest fighting, and force them to surrender or withdraw. That would give Russia its first major prize in more than half a year and open the way to the capture of the last remaining urban centers in the Donetsk region.

“Despite significant losses, the enemy threw in the most prepared assault units of Wagner, who are trying to break through the defenses of our troops and surround the city,” Ukraine’s Col. general Oleksandr Syrskyi was quoted as saying on a military messaging platform. Putin Will Eventually Be Killed by His Inner Circle, Ukraine’s Zelensky Says

By The Independent UK. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has reportedly claimed that president Vladimir Putin will one day be killed by his own inner circle, saying: “Predators will devour a predator”.

The comments were made in an Ukrainian documentary called Year, according to The Times.

It comes as the Russian leader Mr Putin warned his people that they might not survive as a nation if Ukraine wins the war.

Mr Zelensky told the documentary: “There will definitely be a moment when the fragility of Putin’s regime will be felt inside the [Russian] state.

‘I’m Going to Stick To God:’ Hearing Erupts as Rep. Bishop Condemns Democrats’ ‘Modern View’ of Religion

The House Judiciary Committee erupted Tuesday when Rep. Dan Bishop, R-N.C., quoted the Declaration of Independence while discussing religion and God-given rights.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” Bishop recited.

“Not to Mr. Cohen,” Bishop said and someone responded, “Nope!”

Bishop criticized Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., and the Democratic Party for their “modern view” that it’s not about God or tracing rights to the existence of God, which they believe to be “passé.”

Train Collision Kills at Least 29, Injures More Than 80 (VIDEO)

A passenger train collided with a freight train in Greece just before midnight on Feb. 28, killing 29 and injuring at least 85 people, authorities say.

A train carrying 350 passengers was traveling north from Athens to Thessaloniki when it ran headlong into a freight train traveling from Thessaloniki near the city of Larissa, CNN reported. The force of the collision caused multiple cars to derail with at least two cars “almost completely destroyed” by fire, Gov. Costas Agorastos stated, according to Reuters.

“The front section of the train was smashed. … We’re getting cranes to come in and special lifting equipment clear the debris and lift the rail cars. There’s debris flung all around the crash site,” Agorastos continued, according to the Associated Press.

Scandal: The Air Force Repeatedly Leaked Military Records to Democratic Operatives

During the 2022 midterm election cycle, the confidential military records of former U.S. Air Force Commander Jennifer-Ruth Green were leaked to the press, showing she had been sexually assaulted. At the time, Green was running against Democratic Congressman Frank Mrvan to represent Indiana’s 1st Congressioanl District.

In October 2022, it was confirmed the U.S. Air Force illegally leaked the records to Mrvan’s campaign, which were then sent to POLITICO.

“As I have contended all along, that my records were not properly obtained through FOIA, as Politico claimed. They were obtained by a Democrat opposition research firm, and their release was illegal. It’s the worst of politics, and it’s just the latest example that Hoosiers deserve better than Congressman Frank Mrvan,” Green said at the time. “I want to thank Senators Tom Cotton, Todd Young and Mike Braun as well as Congressman Jim Banks and Congressman Larry Bucshon for their ongoing efforts to demand accountability and get to the bottom of the illegal leak of my confidential files.”

“Now we know the Air Force did release documents illegally to a Democrat opposition research firm. And we know what firm it was and we know they work for the DCCC, which has been coordinating so closely with Frank Mrvan that every ad he’s aired in this race they split the cost of. To believe Mrvan and his cronies didn’t know is laughable. There is more to come,” Green’s Campaign Communications Director Kevin Hansberger added.

Russians Hung Out With U.S. Army Soldiers at a Weapons Expo and Played With the Missiles Killing Putin’s Tanks in Ukraine

The US is arming Ukraine with deadly weapons to use on the battlefield against Russian forces, but that didn’t stop Russians from coming over and checking out Washington’s military hardware this week at an expo in the Middle East, according to a new report.

US Army soldiers and Russian weapons contractors both had displays at the Naval Defence & Security Exposition, a place for countries to showcase their weaponry and other combat systems, in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates this week, and they were separated by just a few yards, Breaking Defense reported from the event.

At one point, the Russians reportedly came over to the US stand, where one soldier told Breaking Defense the mood was friendly and there was even an exchange of patches. At least one of the Russians even picked up a Javelin, an anti-tank missile system that the US military has sent to Ukraine and has been used to destroy Russian tanks.

Neither US Central Command, nor the US Army, immediately responded to Insider’s requests for comment.

The US-provided FGM-148 Javelin, a portable shoulder-launched weapon, was widely seen as a symbol of Ukrainian resistance during the early days of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February and March of 2022. It uses an infrared guidance system to track a target’s emission of light and delivers a high-explosive anti-tank warhead. A Mysterious White Dust Is Falling From the Sky in Parts of the U.S. (VIDEO)

Parts of the mid-Atlantic United States are reportedly seeing mysterious white dust falling in the region, with officials testing samples of the dust to identify its origin.

“Several reports of an unknown white powder or dust sediment falling out of the sky throughout West Virginia and Maryland … Local fire departments suggesting people shut windows and doors and stay inside until it can be investigated,” political strategist Chuck Callesto said in a Feb. 24 Twitter post. An accompanying video showed cars being covered by the white dust.

The Facebook page of Eastern Panhandle Working Fires (EPWF), which tracks emergencies in Panhandle, West Virginia, warned about “strange film/dust” descending on Jefferson and Berkeley counties as well as other areas in a Facebook post on Friday.

EPWF contacted the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP), which warned citizens experiencing related issues to call 911 “immediately” and have their local fire department respond. WVDEP also advised citizens to shut doors and windows of their homes and avoid venturing outside until the issue can be identified.

“The WVDEP received reports late Thursday night about the dust and mobilized inspectors to the area to collect samples and identify potential sources. No obvious sources have been identified at this time. No shelter in place advisories have been issued for this area,” WVDEP said a Feb. 24 press release.

Don’t Call on Demons You Don’t Believe In

Human beings, John Calvin said, are incurably religious creatures. Left to our own devices, we will start worshiping something or someone, whether or not that means dabbling in the supernatural and calling on spirits, holy or otherwise. This is true even for those who don’t take the supernatural seriously. Such people may assume their dabbling is harmless, or artistically edgy. But they couldn’t be more dangerously mistaken.   

Writing in The New York Times earlier this month, Ross Douthat commented on the growing interest in astrology, “manifesting” videos on TikTok, and spiritual exploration with psychedelic drugs. These things, he argues, are signs that our supposedly secular society is in the midst of a spiritual awakening, but one that involves the wrong types of spirits.

Unrestrained by theology or organized faith, people eager for transcendence are opening doors without considering what might walk through. For example, Douthat notes the golden statue of a woman-like creature that was recently placed atop a New York City courthouse. The bizarre figure features hair braided into horns, arms reminiscent of tentacles, and a lace collar in apparent homage to the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. It’s an unsettling mashup of Earth goddess, abortion politics, and classic demon imagery that embodies our society’s experimental spirituality.  

More overtly hellish antics took the stage at this month’s Grammy Awards, where “nonbinary” pop singer Sam Smith literally dressed up as the devil and performed a song called “Unholy” with transgender artist Kim Petras. Progressive commentators were quick to lecture religious conservatives who were supposedly “freaking out” over Smith’s horns and hooves. “These performers probably don’t actually believe the devil exists,” said one left-wing host. It’s just “artistic expression.” 

Is it possible the devil doesn’t care? Maybe Smith and the artist behind the New York courthouse statue are just trying to be edgy or being pulled along by the allure of the taboo. Maybe people who experiment with occult spirituality and “expanded consciousness” are just fooling around. Maybe flirtations with spiritual darkness are only a big bluff. Jim Jordan Wants to Know Why DOJ Hasn’t Appointed a Special Counsel for Hunter Biden

While U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed special counsels to probe the handling of classified documents by President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, he has not appointed one to handle investigations of Hunter Biden — and that has House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) curious.

So, to get some answers with his power as chairman of the powerful Judiciary Committee, Jordan sent a letter to AG Garland on Tuesday looking to get his hands on some documents to better understand the situation and conduct oversight of Biden’s Department of Justice.

“The Department’s investigation of Hunter Biden, son of President Biden, raises the appearance of a conflict of interest that would necessitate special counsel protections and authorities,” Chairman Jordan notes in his letter to Garland. “However, to date, you have declined to appoint a special counsel in this matter, despite appointing special counsels in other investigations.”

As noted, there’s a special counsel to investigate Joe Biden’s sticky fingers when it came to classified documents from his time as vice president and a U.S. senator — so why not a special counsel to investigate his son?

Poll: Surging Donald Trump Leads DeSantis in Head-To-Head, Grows Advantage Over Larger Field

Former President Donald Trump leads Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in a hypothetical head-to-head Republican primary match-up after a 12-point swing his way in only three weeks, according to a poll.

The Yahoo/YouGov poll released Tuesday shows 47 percent of Republicans would vote for Trump in the head-to-head primary with DeSantis. The Florida governor sits eight points behind with 39 percent of support and 13 percent undecided.

In a YouGov poll conducted between February 2-6, DeSantis led Trump at 45 percent to 41 percent, respectively. The change marks a net 12-point swing to Trump in 21 days, as the current survey is from February 23-27.

Trump also dramatically expanded his lead over a larger primary field in that time. In a scenario with eight other candidates offered to participants, the 45th president took 45 percent of the response in the latest poll, giving him a double-digit lead over DeSantis at 29 percent. He has widened his lead by 14 points compared to the previous survey when he and DeSantis were at 37 percent and 35 percent, respectively, with seven other candidates as options.

‘Most Racist President… Since LBJ’: Biden Slammed Over ‘White Boy’ Remark During Event Marking Black History Month

President Joe Biden faced a wave of backlash over what was deemed a “racist” comment of his implying that white men are unintelligent, after stating, “I may be a white boy, but I’m not stupid,” at a reception honoring African Americans throughout the country’s history.

During a White House reception marking Black History Month on Monday, President Biden stated that “black history matters” after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis reportedly rejected a high school Advance Placement course for African American studies following his “Stop Woke Act,” which aims to ban Critical Race Theory (CRT) in the state’s public schools.

“It’s important to say from the White House for the entire country to hear: history matters. History matters and black history matters,” he said to the roughly 400 people in attendance. “I can’t just choose to learn what we want to know. We learn what we should know. We have to learn everything, the good, the bad, the truth, and who we are as a nation.”

“That’s what great nations do,” he added.

In response, many took to social media to slam the “racist” remarks.
