CDC Data Shows Younger Adults Also End up in Hospital From Coronavirus; COVID-19 Could Overwhelm U.S. Without Urgent Action

By Daily Caller. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday released its first batch of data on coronavirus patients in the United States, showing that while older adults are more likely to experience severe problems with the virus, younger adults are also falling seriously ill.

Fifty-five percent of coronavirus hospitalizations were younger than 65, with 20% between 20 and 44 years, according to the CDC data. Twelve percent of ICU admissions have been for adults have been in that lower age bracket, the federal agency said.

The CDC collected the data from 2,449 patients who tested positive for coronavirus, or COVID-19, through March 16. As of Thursday, more than 9,400 Americans have tested positive for the virus. At least 150 have died, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.

The public messaging around coronavirus has been aimed at adults over 65, and those with underlying health conditions. People in those groups have been urged to stay away from crowds, and to stay at home if possible. But the CDC data suggests that younger people are also at risk of bad outcomes from infection.

“These preliminary data also demonstrate that severe illness leading to hospitalization, including ICU admission and death, can occur in adults of any age with COVID-19,” the CDC report stated. (Read more from “CDC Data Shows Younger Adults Also End up in Hospital From Coronavirus” HERE)

Coronavirus Could Overwhelm U.S. Without Urgent Action, Estimates Say

By The New York Times. The coronavirus has infected far more people in the United States than testing has shown so far, and stringent measures to limit social contact in parts of the country not yet seeing many cases are needed to significantly stem the tide of illness and death in the coming months.

Those are the conclusions of Columbia University researchers who used a New York Times database of known cases and Census Bureau transportation data to model how the outbreak could evolve based on what is known about the virus. The estimates are inherently uncertain, and they could change as America adopts unprecedented measures to control the outbreak.

But they offer a stark warning: Even if the country cut its rate of transmission in half — a tall order — some 650,000 people might become infected in the next two months. (Read more from “Coronavirus Could Overwhelm U.S. Without Urgent Action” HERE)

Baltimore’s Coronavirus Plan: Free Criminals and Beg Killers to Stop Killing

Baltimore’s plan to combat the coronavirus? Release different scum into the streets and ask nicely that they behave.

Baltimore is experiencing a different type of epidemic, one that is about to get worse during the China virus epidemic. The record homicides in 2019 have spilled over into 2020, and now the city’s mayor, Jack Young, has a novel approach to end the bloodshed. He is begging the gangsters and street thugs to suspend their day job of target practice on city streets in order to free up bed space for potential coronavirus patients.

Following the murder of seven people in a shootout downtown on Tuesday night, WJZ13 reported that Young had a message for the city’s murderers. “We cannot clog up our hospitals and their beds with people that are being shot senselessly because we’re going to need those beds for people infected with the coronavirus,” pleaded the mayor. “And it could be your mother, your grandmother or one of your relatives. So take that into consideration.”

Wow, why have we never thought of this brilliant idea? If we only had asked them nicely!

The problem is that his plea rings hollow, as Baltimore officials are joining other blue cities in publicly announcing to criminals that they will not be arrested for numerous crimes. Now, there will be even less of a deterrent for criminals than even before, particularly with few witnesses on the streets and numerous vacant stores to loot.

On the same day Mayor Young issued his impassioned plea to suspend the murders, the city’s infamous prosecutor, Marilyn Mosby, announced that she would be dismissing pending criminal charges for the following offenses: possession of drugs including heroin, attempted distribution of any drug, prostitution, trespassing, minor traffic offenses, open container, and urinating in public.

But given her track record of avoiding prosecutions of even more serious crimes (except for charges against police), one can’t help but wonder if this is just the tip of the iceberg. If this is what she is willing to publicly announce, how many more crimes will she quietly dismiss?

Mosby is also urging the governor to release some prisoners, as other liberal politicians are doing.

Let’s put aside, for a moment, the fact that urination in public and prostitution are not exactly the sort of actions you want to occur during an epidemic. What these radical leftists refuse to recognize is that the very reason why there is so much murder in Baltimore is because they are not deterring and punishing the career criminals and gang members for the other crimes they commit prior to murder.

According to the Maryland Public Policy Institute, from 2016 to 2018, Mosby dropped 36 percent of the cases for felony possession of a gun, and only 27 percent of felony possession cases resulted in a conviction.

Baltimore police report that arrests declined nearly 15 percent from 2017 to 2019. Shockingly, arrests declined for vandalism, rape, and yes, even for homicide, despite the fact that the number of actual homicides surged. Gee, more homicides, but a 40 percent decline in homicide arrests – what gives? Well, arrests for drugs plummeted 30 percent. Perhaps, these “low-level” drug offenders aren’t so low-level, but in fact, are often those who commit murder but are now not taken off the streets while we still have the chance to prevent homicide.

Indeed, according to Baltimore police, in 2018, of the 86 homicide suspects arrested, 70 had prior criminal records. Fifty-two had been previously arrested for, you guessed it, drugs! Yet it’s a system of catch-and-release, where, thanks to Mosby, they barely serve any time behind bars and are back on the streets to engage in more gang-related violence.

Now, even fewer of these ticking time bombs will be taken off the streets. Yet the mayor thinks he can shame the gangsters into dropping their guns out of concern for the health of their grandparents?!

The absurd irony is that, as of this morning, there were only eight confirmed cases of coronavirus in Baltimore City, and nobody was reported to be in critical condition. In “Charm City,” you are exponentially more likely to die of homicide than of coronavirus. Now with armed criminals undeterred from committing crimes on largely vacant streets, and law-abiding citizens barred from carrying guns, Baltimoreans will have more than one reason to quarantine in their homes. The Key Bad Assumption in the Bipartisan Panic Pander Bill

How can Congress treat the fallout of a problem it has failed to define and whose solutions are helping to drive the problem? What is the point of bankrupting our future for a stimulus when California is shutting down the entire state and the Trump administration is considering doing so for the entire nation? We are entitled to a robust debate and some answers.

Politicians and the media are telling the public to be prudent and not to panic, but everything they are saying and implementing is sowing panic, and they are now contemplating actions that reflect more of a bubonic plague dynamic. Their entire legislative approach is about feeding on panic and using the crisis to immediately implement socialism before we even know the scope of the problem and can more effectively target solutions.

Bailing out industries and indiscriminately sending out $1,200 checks to every person in this country (even those fully employed) is way too premature and doesn’t address the problem at hand. There is no economy to stimulate until we solve the logistical problem of getting people back to work. That requires using better scientific data to more effectively localize the quarantines to the places and to the people who need to be home and get as many people working as possible. We need a strategy of containment more in line with the South Korea model than with the European model.

In the meantime, we should be suspending different forms of taxation and offering interest-free loans to incentivize people to work and maintain personal businesses. We already passed paid leave for those who can’t work. And those who are laid off are already eligible for unemployment benefits, which we should work on expediting.

Aside from that, sending out checks to everyone makes no sense. For starters, while many are unable to work, a lot of people are still receiving 100 percent of their salary by working from home or through other arrangements. Why should we pay those people? For example, a family of five like mine who relies solely on telecommunicating (which is not shut down) would receive $3,900 in cash. I mean, I’ll gladly take it or donate it to charity, but does it really make any sense? Instead, incentivize more work by slashing taxes.

As for those in need, $1,200 per person is both too much and too little. It’s too much in the macro-fiscal sense, because it will bankrupt our nation with crushing interest payments on the debt. But it’s also way too little for most families if government is really warning about months of shutdowns, even up to 18 months. If we go the European route instead of the Korean route in terms of a shutdown, we’ll have to mail out $50,000 checks.

Which leads to the main point: Shouldn’t the legislative response focus on most effectively containing the outbreak while getting people back to work, rather than legislating for a major assumption of indefinite shutdowns that seems to be disproven by data from countries that have already gone through this?

All of the Asian countries, such as Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, have already bent the curve, with less economic pain. Even in Washington state, which was the inception and epicenter of the epidemic in the United States, the number of new cases appear to be declining. Washington began with the disruptions and distancing before anyone else, and while the fallout is severe and the deaths are more than in any other state, the state is beginning to see a downward trajectory.

Then there is geography. Most of the outbreaks are clustered in urban areas and most pronounced in a few parts of the country. This is largely going to depend on decisions by governors and local officials, but not every part of the country requires as severe a shutdown.

More than half the cases and over 60 percent of fatalities so far have been in three states: New York, Washington, and California. And even then, they are very localized. That’s why resources and the balance of quarantine vs. economic activity should be targeted.

For example, 56 percent of the Washington state cases are in King County, and when the two neighboring counties are factored in, they account for almost all the cases. 85 percent of the deaths were in King County, of which more than half were in one nursing home. Almost all the deaths are in metro Seattle.

As of Tuesday, 56 percent of the NY cases were in NYC, nearly all of them in metro NYC with the exception of a known anomalous outbreak in Westchester County.

In California and other Western states, the numbers are very much driven by the homeless population. Roughly half the cases in San Francisco are among the homeless.

We need to tailor the quarantine to where it’s needed most, and that will dictate the economic outcomes.

Thus, there is no reason Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf should be taking the prudent distancing a step further and shutting all “non-life-sustaining” businesses in the entire state when there has only been one fatality statewide. Most of the counties in the state have no cases reported. So we are going to shut every store in rural Pennsylvania but still have outbound flights from Seattle?

The decision by California’s Governor Newsom to essentially put everyone in every county under house arrest is just appalling.

South Korea got the epidemic under control in less than a month without shutting down its entire economy. The country went into crisis mode around February 20 and began bending the trajectory after the first week in March. Yes, it’s possible it could take longer in some parts of our country, but not in others, and certainly not for 18 months. So why is our government panicking to legislate under that assumption? Because policymakers are pandering to industries, and they are also trying to use the crisis to implement dependency-inducing and liberty-squelching policies they’ve long sought anyway.

Perhaps I’m not taking this serious enough? Well, here’s a rule of thumb: The government should treat the rest of our economy with the same plans to get it restarted again as it is treating refugee resettlement. The State Department announced its intention to bring in refugees again beginning on April 7, while California is contemplating an indefinite house arrest of Americans and the Trump administration is looking to do this nationally. Are you kidding me?

Panic mixed with shameless pandering is a recipe for a bigger crisis than the coronavirus itself. It’s time for real men to stand up and be counted. (For more from the author of “The Key Bad Assumption in the Bipartisan Panic Pander Bill” please click HERE)

Schiff Claims ‘Immunity’ in Bid to Keep Impeachment Phone Subpoenas Secret

The House Intelligence Committee and its chairman Adam Schiff invoked “sovereign immunity” in a motion to dismiss a Judicial Watch lawsuit seeking to obtain controversial phone records subpoenas issued during the Trump impeachment inquiry.

The committee’s subpoenas of phone records ultimately led to the publication of multiple Americans’ phone records, including those of reporter John Solomon, California Rep. Devin Nunes, the president’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani and others. . .

“First, the doctrine of sovereign immunity deprives the Court of jurisdiction over the House Defendants, and no express and unequivocal waiver exists,” the argument says. “Second, given that the records sought by Plaintiff involve matters pursued and obtained by the House Defendants as part of the House-authorized impeachment inquiry, they are absolutely protected by the Speech or Debate Clause.” (Read more from “Schiff Claims ‘Immunity’ in Bid to Keep Impeachment Phone Subpoenas Secret” HERE)

State Department Advises Against All International Travel; Trump to Partially Close U.S.-Mexico Border

By Washington Examiner. The U.S. State Department advised the public to avoid travel to other countries as the coronavirus pandemic continues to sweep around the globe.

The department placed all international travel under a Level 4 advisory. In an alert, the department wrote, “In countries where commercial departure options remain available, U.S. citizens who live in the United States should arrange for immediate return to the United States, unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period.”

Last week, the department placed international travel at a Level 3 restriction, advising all passengers to “reconsider international travel.” (Read more from “State Department Advises Against All International Travel” HERE)

Trump to Partially Close U.S.-Mexico Border

By Politico. President Donald Trump announced Friday that the U.S. and Mexico have agreed to temporarily close the border to nonessential travel to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

U.S. and Mexican officials have been in talks this week over how to work together in responding to the global pandemic while ensuring that bilateral trade and essential travel are not disrupted at the border. It’s a similar move to the U.S. and Canada’s decision on Wednesday to impose travel restrictions at the northern U.S. border.

“Both countries know the importance of working together to limit the spread of the virus and ensure the commerce that supports our economy continues to keep flowing,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said during a White House press conference. “The United States is glad to have a friend that is working side-by-side with us in the fight.”

The U.S.’ agreement with Mexico and Canada to restrict nonessential travel will go into effect on Saturday. (Read more from “Trump to Partially Close U.S.-Mexico Border” HERE)

Cuomo: You Know Who’s Doing A Good Job On NY’s COVID-19 Outbreak? Trump (VIDEO); Trump Administration Confronts a Growing Coronavirus Threat Within

By Hot Air. Perhaps this crisis might produce a better environment for cooperation after all. This statement might have been seen as a simple process-smoothing sop from Andrew Cuomo to Donald Trump, but Cuomo sounds pretty sincere — and detailed in his praise. In his press conference updating events on the COVID-19 outbreak, Cuomo emphasized that he and Trump have always had a good working relationship, and that Trump has been “fully engaged” in the coronavirus containment efforts in New York.

“We’re fighting the same war,” Cuomo said of Trump, and “we’re in the same trench.” That’s quite a change of pace from the partisan bickering of the past few weeks:

Cuomo’s complimentary treatment of Trump has a solid factual basis too, at least for Cuomo. The governor announced that New York has now confirmed more than 2,000 cases of COVID-19 infection, the most of any state, and that requires a more robust response. Trump has now ordered a Navy hospital ship to go to New York City to provide more capacity for overtaxed medical facilities in the state, which will help address an anticipated bed shortage over the next few weeks:

Trump Administration Confronts a Growing Coronavirus Threat Within

By Politico. The federal agency that serves as an international multimedia broadcaster for the U.S. informed all employees of its first known coronavirus case about an hour after it knew.

But the agency responsible for regulating civil aviation in the U.S. didn’t immediately tell technical operations employees about a positive test result at a Las Vegas airport, allowing them to continue working in a potentially infected area. Those employees, including technicians who had just completed their shifts, found out after a tower was evacuated.

Dozens of employees who work across the nation’s federal agencies have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, adding to the surging count of well over 10,000 confirmed cases in the United States. Experts expect the number of cases to continue rising as more tests are made available — and the federal government’s millions of employees are just as exposed as the American public at large. Meanwhile, hundreds, if not thousands, of other government employees have quarantined themselves either out of precaution or because they are exhibiting symptoms of the disease.

But if the Trump administration has a unified policy on how it is handling the grim march of the virus within its own ranks, it isn’t sharing it. (Read more from “Trump Administration Confronts a Growing Coronavirus Threat Within” HERE)

WATCH: Trump Calls out Reporter When She Says Government Was Unprepared on Coronavirus Testing; Ilhan Omar Offers Trump Rare Praise; Joe Biden Claims We Have Pandemic Because of Trump

By The Blaze. President Donald Trump shot down a reporter’s question during a coronavirus media briefing on Thursday over previous accusations of racism made by her network.

NBC’s Kristen Welker asked a pointed question about the government’s preparedness in relation to the pandemic when the president fired back.

“You did say a few days ago though, you did have a sense that this was a pandemic that was coming, so why was the United States not prepared with more testing?” asked Welker.

“We were very prepared, the only thing we weren’t prepared for was the media, the media has not treated it fairly,” responded the president.

Ilhan Omar Offers Trump Rare Praise for Coronavirus Response

By New York Post. Rep. Ilhan Omar commended President Trump for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic in an unexpected moment of rare praise.

“Politics aside, this is incredible and the right response in this critical time,” Omar (D-Minn.) tweeted Wednesday evening alongside a hand-clapping emoji.

The frequent Trump critic and member of “The Squad” was responding to a tweet about the commander in chief’s recent actions to combat the coronavirus, including, as the quote read, “suspending mortgage foreclosures, demanding cash payments to Americans, now invoking the Defense Production Act to force private firms to produce needed supplies.”

Omar went on to praise Trump, who has feuded with Omar on multiple occasions, by referencing words of wisdom from fellow “Squad” member Rep. Ayanna Pressley.

Fact Check: Joe Biden Claims We Have Coronavirus Because of Trump

By Breitbart. CLAIM: The coronavirus outbreak hit the U.S. because President Donald Trump “eliminated” President Barack Obama’s pandemic office.

VERDICT: FALSE.

Former vice president Joe Biden claimed on Twitter on Thursday that the U.S. is “paying the price” of coronavirus because President Trump “eliminated” an office that dealt with pandemics.

Biden is wrong — very wrong. This falsehood almost deserves an entirely separate category of ignominy because of its ability to divide and frighten people in the middle of a crisis that requires social cooperation and trust.

The truth — as explained earlier this week in the Washington Post by former National Security Council official Tim Morrison — is that the office was combined with others in a reorganiztion that “left the biodefense staff unaffected.” (Read more from “Fact Check: Joe Biden Claims We Have Coronavirus Because of Trump” HERE)

Corrupt Republicans Use Insider Knowledge, Dump Stocks Before Market Crash

Editor’s note: Although the big offenders were Republican — likely acting on insider information — it was revealed after the below stories broke that Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein did the same. Restoring Liberty has long maintained that corruption is endemic to both parties.

Third GOP Senator Caught Selling Equity Before the Market Crash — This Time up to $25 Million Worth

By Raw Story. On Monday, March 2nd, the Dow Jones Industrial Average set its biggest-ever point gain.

But Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) was massively selling.

Johnson, who has a net worth estimated at over $36 million, made a major transaction.

The exact amount is unknown, as ethics forms only require disclosure in broad ranges, but Johnson reported selling over $5 million that day — and potentially up to $25 million. . .

Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) and Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) reported dumping stock before market crash. (Read more from “Third GOP Senator Caught Selling Equity Before the Market Crash — This Time up to $25 Million Worth” HERE)

AOC Calls on Senate Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr to Resign for Stock Sell-Off Ahead of Pandemic

By NBC News. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is calling on Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., to resign after reports Thursday that the powerful Intelligence Committee chairman had privately warned well-connected donors of the dire impacts of the coronavirus pandemic last month while selling off up to $1.6 million of his own stocks.

Ocasio-Cortez said on Twitter that as chairman of the Intelligence Committee, Burr “got private briefings about Coronavirus weeks ago. Burr knew how bad it would be. He told the truth to his wealthy donors, while assuring the public that we were fine. THEN he sold off $1.6 million in stock before the fall. He needs to resign.”

Ocasio-Cortez was referring to two separate reports about Burr’s activities in February.

ProPublica reported that Burr — who co-wrote an op-ed for Fox News in early February saying “the United States today is better prepared than ever before to face emerging public health threats, like the coronavirus” — sold off the stock around mid-February, about a week before the market started to drop because of coronavirus concerns.

That included selling off up to $150,000 worth of shares of Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, which has lost two-thirds of its value, ProPublica reported. He also sold off up to $100,000 of shares of another hotel chain, Extended Stay America. Tucker Carlson Calls on Sen. Richard Burr to Resign Over Stock Dumping Reports

By Newsweek. Intelligence Committee Chairman Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina sold over $1 million in stocks, including stocks in two lodging and hospitality chains, in February before the coronavirus pandemic sent the markets into a tailspin according to Thursday reports.

Whether Burr’s decision to sell the stocks was influenced by information about the coronavirus has yet to be confirmed, but Fox News host Tucker Carlson said Thursday that Burr, co-author of a February op-ed piece which claimed that the U.S. was “better prepared than ever before to face emerging public health threats, like the coronavirus,” should resign from office and be placed on trial for insider trading.

“[Burr] had inside information about what could happen to our country, which is now happening,” Carlson said. “But he didn’t warn the public. He didn’t give a primetime address. Didn’t go on television to sound the alarm. He didn’t even disavow an op-ed he had written just ten days before claiming that America was, quote, ‘better prepared than ever for coronavirus.'”

“Instead, what did he do? He dumped his shares in hotel stocks so he wouldn’t lose money,” Carlson continued. “And then he stayed silent. Now, maybe there’s an honest explanation for what he did. If there is, he should share it with the rest of us immediately. Otherwise, he must resign from the Senate and face prosecution for insider trading.” (Read more from “Tucker Carlson Calls on Sen. Washington Hospitals Are Facing a Space and Supply Scarcity in the Fight Against Coronavirus; Coronavirus Is Killing Italy’s Doctors. The U.S. Could Be Next.

By Daily Caller. Washington State has been at the forefront of the fight against the coronavirus since January. The first confirmed case of the coronavirus in the U.S. was in the state, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Jan. 20. As of Thursday, over 17,000 people have been tested in Washington, and 1,187 have tested positive, the Washington State Department of Health reports. The death toll was at 66 as of Thursday, the highest in the country.

Washington, and more specifically, Seattle, has emerged as America’s coronavirus laboratory, highlighting the challenges and deficits in resources the country is currently facing, as local, state, and federal governments have gone into overdrive to find solutions to the shortages of critical materials like face masks and testing.

President Donald Trump has even invoked a Korean War era law called the Defense Production Act to fill the gaps in medical supplies by harnessing by requiring corporations to accept and prioritize contracts for materials necessary to aid national defense, CNN reported. “I view it — in a sense as a wartime president,” Trump said Wednesday.

If this is war, Washington state’s doctors are on the frontline. The Navy has even sent its two hospital ships, which can be used to treat non-coronavirus patients, to allow Seattle-area hospitals to focus on the pandemic, Wired reported. King County, where Seattle is located, is creating field hospitals at multiple locations for additional isolation and quarantine sites, the Seattle Times reported. . .

But the biggest concern is still personal protective equipment for hospital staff, who have reported reusing face masks after spraying or wiping them down with sanitizer, supplies of which are dwindling in some hospitals, the New York Times reported. Typically, masks should be replaced after each use, but there aren’t enough in stock at many hospitals for doctors and nurses to be able to use more than one or two per day. Coronavirus Is Killing Italy’s Doctors. The U.S. Could Be Next.

By The Daily Beast. Dr. Marcello Natali never left the front line in the northern Italian town of Codogno when the novel coronavirus outbreak exploded more than three weeks ago. And the front line is where the 57-year-old physician died this week from the disease he fought so hard. Natali, whose wife is also a health care worker, had no preexisting conditions, and was far younger than the median age of 80 of most of Italy’s nearly 3,000 COVID-19 dead. But he only agreed to get the intensive care he desperately needed last week after his symptoms overwhelmed him.

He didn’t go in sooner because he didn’t want to take an intensive care unit bed from anyone else. The crisis has put a severe strain on the entire health care system, with some of the best hospitals in Europe using corridors for ICU wards. Natali was taken by ambulance first to a larger facility in nearby Cremona and then to Milan, where he died alone in isolation. And since funerals are prohibited as part of the national lockdown, he will not even receive a hero’s burial. . .

Natali, who was the head of the region’s Federation of General Practitioners, is the fourth doctor to die in the original red zone, which has been under lockdown since Feb. 23. Just days before he went into intensive care, he gave a radio interview in which he complained that testing was taking too long and that there were many cases that family doctors were taking care of on a house call basis without full protection, exposing them to the virus. . .

As the virus spreads to the United States, health care workers there are watching Italy’s situation closely, and terrified doctors have sounded the alarm repeatedly. But the numbers do not augur well. Italy’s state run health care system is able to provide 3.2 beds per 1,000 people compared to 2.8 beds per 1,000 in the U.S, according to the OECD. On Wednesday, the U.S. State Department confirmed that Italy had sent 500,000 swabs to the U.S. to help complete test kits. The fact that the sick are now helping those perceived to be stronger should be worrying. . .

At least 2,629 health care workers—roughly 8.3 percent of all cases in Italy—have contracted COVID-19 from working with inadequate equipment or being exposed to asymptomatic carriers, according to the latest results from the Ministry of Health. Mother and Daughter Who Ran Colorado Funeral Home Accused of Illegally Selling Body Parts

A mother and daughter who ran a funeral home in Colorado were indicted for using the business to sell human remains without the consent of families, authorities said.

Megan Hess, 43, and Shirley Koch, 66, were arrested and charged with six counts each of mail fraud and three counts each of illegal transportation of hazardous materials. . .

A federal indictment unsealed on Tuesday states that the donor service business would harvest human remains and sell them to customers who used them for scientific, medical or educational purposes. Prosecutors allege that the mother and daughter did not always have permission from families to donate the remains. . .

The duo ran the scheme from 2010 to 2018 and charged at least $1,000 for cremation services. The indictment alleges that they made so much money from the donor services business that they were able to offer lower-priced cremation services than other funeral homes in the area.

“As a result, Hess was able to ensure a constant supply of bodies for her and Koch’s body broker services business,” the indictment states. (Read more from “Mother and Daughter Who Ran Colorado Funeral Home Accused of Illegally Selling Body Parts” HERE)
