A handful of U.S. colleges are employing a type of social credit system through various technologies designed to track students as they attend courses and walk across campus.
Universities across the country are using the so-called SpotterEDU app to connect with apps on students’ smartphones for the purpose of boosting their “attendance points.” The app also sees their absences and logs that information into a campus database that tracks them.
“They want those points,” Syracuse University Professor Jeff Rubin, who teaches Introduction to Information Technologies, told The Washington Post. “They know I’m watching and acting on it. So, behaviorally, they change.” He was referring to the app’s ability to socially engineer his students. . .
“We’re adults. Do we really need to be tracked?” Robby Pfeifer, a sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, told WaPo. “Why is this necessary? How does this benefit us? … And is it just going to keep progressing until we’re micromanaged every second of the day?”
Pfeifer’s campus recently began logging the attendance of students connected to the campus’s WiFi network, which empowers colleges to track hundreds of thousands of students more precisely than at any other time in American history. An offshoot of ISIS in West Africa released a video yesterday, the day after Christmas, that reportedly shows the terrorists shooting, stabbing, and beheading a group of 11 Christians in retaliation for the U.S. Armed Forces killing ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in October.
“No details were given about the victims, who were all male, but IS says they were ‘captured in the past weeks’ in Nigeria’s north-eastern Borno State,” the BBC reported. “It was released on 26 December and analysts say it was clearly timed to coincide with Christmas celebrations.”
One of the terrorists in the video reportedly said, “This is a message to Christians all over the world.”
Reuters reported that the video showed “men in beige uniforms and black masks lining up behind blindfolded captives then beheading 10 of them and shooting an 11th man.” . . .

Texas Republican Representative Michael Burgess revealed during an interview on Friday that Democrats are still refusing to release transcripts of depositions that were conducted in secret by Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA).
Burgess made the remarks during an interview on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” with co-host Molly Line, where he said Speaker of the House Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) goal with impeachment was to “politically harm the president at the beginning of a political year.” . . .
“Look, they had all the tools at their disposal up on the House side. They made it secret, not just behind locked doors, but with armed guards outside the doors,” Burgess responded. “They still haven’t made all of the transcripts available to members of Congress and, according to House rules, any committee hearing is supposed to be – the transcript is supposed to be available to other House members, but they have not done so, and no one has asserted that these are classified briefings; they were just simply secret hearings because it behooved the speaker to have secret hearings. That doesn’t pass muster. That’s not a constitutional part of the process.”

Jim Mattis, the former Defense Secretary for the Trump administration, said that his email was hacked by a young marine trying to impress a girl, and his “punishment” was a surprising life lesson.
Mattis was speaking to the Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce in southeast Washington state about leadership when he told the story.
“It’s like all organizations in the world, the leadership of the Marine Corps gets the behavior they reward,” he explained. . .
“He was young enough to make a mistake like that, which would have been an ethical mistake up above,” he said.
“He got punished by being assigned to my personal staff,” Mattis concluded, “so I could keep an eye on the lad.”

The YouGov poll surveyed 2,000 Germans between the time period of December 16 and 18.
41 percent of those polled said Trump was the greatest threat to world peace.
Only 17 percent said North Korean Chairman Kim Jong Un was a greater threat.
8 percent of those polled said Putin was the greatest threat, and another 8 percent said Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was the greatest threat. 7 percent said Chinese President Xi Jinping was the greatest threat. Jason Riley: GOP Sen. Murkowski using ‘Democratic talking points’ on Trump impeachment trial
By Fox News. Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski wrongly used “Democratic talking points” when she criticized Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s comments about how he would run President Trump’s pending impeachment trial, Fox News contributor Jason Riley said Thursday.
Murkowski took exception to comments McConnell, R-Ky., made during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity earlier this month, in which he promised to be in “coordination” with the White House, should House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., submit the two articles of impeachment to the Senate.
“When I heard that, I was disturbed,” Murkowski told KTUU in an interview that aired Tuesday evening. “To me, it means that we have to take that step back from being hand in glove with the defense. And so, I heard what Leader McConnell had said, I happened to think that that has further confused the process.”
Riley, a Wall Street Journal editorial board member, said on “Special Report” that Murkowski indeed has been known for her “independent streak” as a more-moderate GOP senator. . .
Riley continued, “I do wish she would stop using Democratic talking points to make the argument that she is making. By Townhall. Author and former Norwegian royal Ari Behn was found dead by suicide on Wednesday, Christmas Day. He was just 47 years old.
“It’s with great sorrow in our hearts that we, those closest to Ari Behn, must report that he took his own life today. We ask for respect for our private lives in the time to come,” Behn’s manager, Geir Håkonsund, told Norwegian media.
Behn was one of several men who had accused actor Kevin Spacey of sexual assault. According to Behn, Spacey groped him at a Nobel Peace Prize concert in 2007, of which the actor was serving as a co-host.
“We had a nice conversation, he was sitting right next to me,” Behn explained in 2017. “After five minutes, he says, ‘Hey, let’s go out and have a cigarette.’ And then he takes me under the table in the middle of my balls. I got more than I bargained for.”

The latest, Ari Behn, apparently committed suicide on Wednesday, Variety reported. . .
Linda Culkin, a woman who accused Spacey of sexual harassment was killed in a car crash in February.
Culkin was obsessed with Spacey and had threatened to kill him, according to prosecutors who worked on a case related to Culkin’s sending of death threats over mail and the internet. . .

Embattled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a “huge” victory Friday, after winning a leadership primary that ensures he will lead his right-wing Likud party into March elections.
Israel’s longest-serving premier, who faces a corruption indictment and a third general election in twelve months, was expected to beat rival Gideon Saar but the convincing margin of victory strengthened his position in the party he has dominated for 20 years.
With all votes counted, Likud announced early Friday that Netanyahu had secured 72.5 percent, with Saar winning 27.5 percent. . .
Netanyahu held multiple campaign events a day in different parts of the country, while on Thursday his Facebook page broadcast live video of him phoning supporters.

Almark Foods has expanded its recall of hard-boiled eggs to include products sold at stores nationwide, including Costco, Walmart, Kroger and Trader Joe’s.
The company first issued the recall Dec. 20 after the Food and Drug Administration linked the eggs to a listeria outbreak that killed one person and caused illness in several others. . .
The affected products have a “Best If Used By” code starting with a “G,” indicating they were made at the Gainesville location. The recall includes hard-boiled or hard-cooked eggs sold under brands such as Egglands Best, Great Day, Giant Eagle, Kirkland Signature, Kroger, Great Value, Lucerne, Simple Truth Organics and ShopRite. San Francisco residents reported more than 30,000 cases of poop to authorities in 2019, city records show.
As of Monday afternoon, the city’s Department of Public Works responded to 30,136 cases of “human or animal waste” this year, easily topping the 28,353 cases the agency handled in 2018 with a week still to go, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation analysis of publicly available city records. The liberal city is averaging more than 84 poop reports every day, The Daily Caller News Foundation’s analysis found.
Pictures showed a man defecating in a San Francisco grocery store earlier in December. Pictures from the scene showed a man doing the deed in a Safeway aisle and then opening up a store package of toilet paper to wipe himself.
“This is a national embarrassment,” Haney said. “It is also [in] many communities a disgusting, public health crisis, no one should be able to walk about and see poop smeared all over the place, no one should live in these conditions.
