Christian Persecution 2019 a Scourge of ‘Mammoth Proportions’

June 2019 is an “especially menacing time” for Christians both on the domestic and international fronts, writes Christian persecution expert John L. Allen in a report Sunday.

The U.S. Catholic Church is facing “one of the most serious potential violations of religious freedom in its history in the form of SB 360 in California,” writes Allen, author of the 2013 bestseller The Global War on Christians: Dispatches from the Front Lines of Anti-Christian Persecution, since the bill would compel priests to reveal information learned while hearing confessions as evidence against possible sex offenders. . .

On the international scene, “the scope of anti-Christian hostility is staggering,” Allen continues, with the number of Christians facing “harassment, physical assault, arrest and imprisonment, torture, and even death” on a daily basis estimated at around 200 million.

Christians in North Korea, China, India, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria and a host of other countries live under a constant threat of active persecution, as documented by Open Doors, a Christian persecution watchdog group. . .

“Just as one didn’t have to be Jewish to sympathize with the plight of dissident Jews in the Soviet Union, and didn’t have to be black to be outraged by apartheid in South Africa, similarly today one shouldn’t have to be Christian to recognize anti-Christian persecution as a human rights scourge of mammoth proportions,” Allen writes. New Documents Regarding Omar’s Possible Marriage to Brother Released

By Breitbart. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Saturday that an extensive investigation into the question of why Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was married to one man but filed a joint tax return with another could not determine whether she had married her brother.

Omar was found earlier thismonth to have violated Minnesota campaign finance laws by using campaign funds to pay for out-of-state travel not related to her state legislative duties, and for legal expenses related to her personal tax returns. She was ordered to reimburse her campaign and pay a civil penalty of $500 to the state.

The Star Tribune report reported:

New investigative documents released by a state agency have given fresh life to lingering questions about the marital history of Rep. Ilhan Omar and whether she once married a man — possibly her own brother — to skirt immigration laws. . .

Since the recent findings of the campaign finance board that discovered Omar had improperly used campaign money to pay a lawyer to fix her tax filings, the Star Tribune searched public records — including available databases, the marriage and divorce filing, business licenses, university records and other documents — and could find little publicly available information about Elmi. The search of records could neither conclusively confirm nor rebut the allegation that he is Omar’s sibling.

New Documents Shed Light on Ilhan Omar’s Marriage to Her Alleged Brother

By Daily Wire. Newly discovered official documents released on Sunday suggest that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) lived with her current husband Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi during the entire time that she was legally married to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the man that critics allege is her brother. . .

However, Omar’s timeline of events appears to conflict with newly uncovered documents from The Washington Examiner’s Tiana Lowe, who notes that the evidence suggests that Omar has always been in a marital relationship with Hirsi, even when she was married to Elmi.

The Washington Examiner reports:

Public documents, for instance, place Hirsi and Omar living in a home together in the Cedar Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis in 2009, the year Elmi and Omar married, and two years before Omar claims she reconciled with Hirsi.

In legal documents, including 24 traffic violations and misdemeanor charges against Hirsi obtained by the Washington Examiner, Hirsi listed his address at a single Cedar Riverside address consistently in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. Four minor cases against Omar show that in 2007, 2009, and 2012, she listed her address at the same Cedar Riverside address.

Police Arrest Woman Who Took Husband’s Guns to Police in Fear for Her Life

By The Blaze. A Florida woman who is an alleged victim of domestic violence was arrested earlier this month after she turned over her estranged husband’s guns to police.

Following a divorce hearing in court on June 14, Courtney Irby’s soon-to-be ex-husband, Joseph, rammed her car and ultimately drove her off the road. Courtney immediately called police “uncontrollably crying and advised that she was in fear for her life,” an arrest affidavit says, HuffPost reported.

Police arrested Joseph and charged him with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. At the same time, Courtney petitioned the court for an immediate injunction for protection. It was not the first time Courtney requested a protective order against her husband.

Despite testifying over the phone at Joseph’s pretrial hearing, a judge released him, but ordered he could not possess or own any weapons.

In response, Courtney went to her estranged husband’s apartment and took possession of his firearms — one handgun and one rifle — with the intention of turning them into police. She did not believe Joseph would comply with the judge’s order, and she said she remained in fear for her life. Florida Woman Arrested for Turning in Husband’s Guns After He Tried to Run Her Over

By Click Orlando. A woman who went to a police station to turn in her husband’s guns a day after he tried to run her over was arrested on an armed burglary charge, according to the Lakeland Police Department. . .

“Well, he was arrested yesterday for trying to run me over with his car and he is now in jail. So I went to his apartment, since he is in jail, and I searched his apartment for the guns I knew he had and I took them,” Courtney Irby said, according to the report.

The officer asked Courtney Irby to confirm what had happened.

“So, you are telling me you committed an armed burglary?” the officer asked.

“Yes, I am, but he wasn’t going to turn them in so I am doing it,” Courtney Irby replied, according to the report. (Read more from “Florida Woman Arrested for Turning in Husband’s Guns After He Tried to Run Her Over” HERE)

Biden Compares Trump’s Election to High-Profile Assassinations of Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy; Dems Go After Biden 2020

By The Blaze. Former Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday compared the cultural ripple effect of President Donald Trump’s election to the assassinations of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Sen. Robert Kennedy (D-N.Y.) in the 1960s.

Speaking with MSNBC host Al Sharpton during the South Carolina Democratic Convention about criminal justice reform, Biden claimed that Trump’s election ignited a cultural awakening that will shift the tides of public policy just like the assassinations of King and Kennedy drove change a half-century ago.

“I think what’s happening now is, I think that Donald Trump may have reawakened sensibilities in this country to say ‘Whoa, maybe we can do this now,’ just like our generation was awakened when Dr. King and Bobby Kennedy were assassinated,” Biden said. “Our whole generation said, ‘I’m back in, man.’ . . .

Although Biden remains the clear frontrunner for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, his gaffe-prone nature has already reared its head early into his campaign. (Read more from “Biden Compares Trump’s Election to High-Profile Assassinations of Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy” HERE)

Democrats Call Biden ‘Unchanging’ and a ‘Disaster Waiting to Happen’

By The New York Post. Former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel, one of just two Democratic candidates who skipped the South Carolina Democratic convention, lambasted Biden as “unchanging, unapologetic, unaware” for Biden’s recent comments praising his own work with segregationist Senate Democrats in the 1970s.

Gravel tweeted that the former vice president “is a disaster waiting to happen. If you are serious about beating Trump, you need to be serious about beating Joe and giving us a serious progressive for the White House.”

Meanwhile, in Columbia, SC, candidates tried to steer the conversation around the front-runner.

California Sen. Kamala Harris entered the convention with a drum line playing as she rode down an elevator. She attacked Trump for everything from his tax and trade policies to an alleged lack of civil rights protections for marginalized Americans. She said Trump’s economic proposals help the rich and hurt farmers. (Read more from “Democrats Call Biden ‘Unchanging’ and a ‘Disaster Waiting to Happen'” HERE)

WATCH: Pence Drops a Truth Bomb About the Border Crisis on the MSM

Vice President Mike Pence made his rounds on cable television on Sunday morning. One of the issues that repeatedly came up was crisis along our southern border. . .

CBS’ Marg Brennan asked Pence why President Trump decided to announce the hold to the deportation sting that was schedule for Sunday.

“We have a crisis on our southern border. We are on track to have more than a million people come across our border and, for the first time ever, the vast majority are families that are bringing children with them to exploit what we understand our loopholes in our asylum laws. If people come across our border, make the claim of asylum, we can detain them for only 20 days and then they’re released into the United States,” Pence explained.

“The truth is 90 percent of those claims are denied and the vast majority never show up for their hearing a year or 18 months down the road. So the president is doing his job. We both took an oath to faithfully execute the laws of this country,” Pence explained. “He set into motion an internal enforcement effort to remove people who have been given due process of law, who have been adjudicated, through a court order deported, but the president, talking with Speaker Pelosi, and other Democrats, made the decision to delay two weeks and to call on the Congress, once again, to close the loopholes that human traffickers are using to entice families.”

Should Openly Transgender People Serve in the U.S. Military? Gallup Poll Reveals How Americans Feel.

The United States needs a strong military that stands ready to confront any threat, so should people who openly identify as transgender be permitted to serve?

Common sense dictates that the answer to this question should be a resounding “no.” But according to a recent Gallup survey, a majority of American adults (71 percent) answered that they favor permitting openly transgender individuals to serve in the military, while just 26 percent oppose that idea. A small percentage (2 percent) had no opinion.

Gallup’s poll results show 88 percent of Democrats, 78 percent of independents and 43 percent of Republicans favor allowing openly transgender people to participate in military service, while 11 percent of Democrats, 20 percent of independents and 53 percent of Republicans oppose it. . .

A 2017 Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll found that “58 percent of adults agreed with the statement, ‘Transgender people should be allowed to serve in the military.’ Twenty-seven percent said they should not while the rest answered ‘don’t know.’”

The results of a January 2019 Rasmussen Reports survey found “43% of Likely U.S. Voters favor allowing transgender people to serve openly in the military,” while 44 percent opposed the idea and 13 percent were undecided. The wording of the survey question said, “The U.S. Supreme Court will allow the Trump administration to ban most transgender people from serving openly in the military. Do you favor or oppose allowing transgender people to serve openly in the military?” (Read more from “Should Openly Transgender People Serve in the U.S. Military? Warren Comes out for ‘Gay Reparations’

On Thursday, presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) came out in favor of legislation that has been equated to “gay reparations.” Under the Refund Equality Act, same-sex couples would be able to amend their past taxes, readjusting with jointly-filed tax returns and accepting refunds from the IRS.

“The federal government forced legally married same-sex couples in Massachusetts to file as individuals and pay more in taxes for almost a decade,” Warren said in a statement, according to NBC News. “We need to call out that discrimination and to make it right — Congress should pass the Refund Equality Act immediately.”

“It wasn’t until marriage equality became law that gay & lesbian couples could jointly file tax returns—so they paid more in taxes,” the Democratic presidential candidate posted to Twitter on Sunday. “Our government owes them more than $50M for the years our discriminatory tax code left them out. We must right these wrongs.”

Warren proposed similar legislation in July 2017, according to Mic, with a bill that would “refund married same-sex couples an estimated $67 million that they unfairly paid prior to the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) being overturned,” the outlet noted. “Though co-sponsored by 36 members of Congress, the act was stalled, and therefore had to be reintroduced this year.”

In February, Warren came out in favor of reparations for black Americans “economically affected” by slavery, Reuters reported. That same month, she co-sponsored Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s patently insane Green New Deal resolution, which would cost up to $93 trillion over 10-years, according to the American Action Forum, Bloomberg News reported. And in June, the Warren campaign released a climate change plan: “a $2 trillion package that commits the federal government to spend $150 billion a year over the next decade on low-carbon technology, increases energy research funding tenfold and funds a $100 billion Green Marshall Plan to aid the poorer countries projected to suffer the worst as global temperatures rise,” reported HuffPost. Pelosi Says the House Will Pass a Border Bill but There’s a Catch

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Sunday said the House of Representatives will advance a border bill brought about by the House Appropriations Committee. The announcement comes after President Donald Trump’s last minute decision to cancel a deportation raid that was scheduled for Sunday in 10 cities. Trump said he would give Congress two weeks to pass a border bill before the raid is reinstated.

According to Pelosi, the House will provide humanitarian aid that’s needed to keep families together.

“The President’s failed policies have exacerbated the situation at the border, where vulnerable children endure inhumane conditions that threaten their health, well-being and sometimes, tragically, their lives. This legislation provides urgently-needed humanitarian assistance for families, including funding for food, shelter, clothing, medical care and legal assistance, and will relieve the horrific situation of over-crowding and help prevent additional deaths,” Pelosi said in a statement. “And we are providing urgent assistance to local communities to help defray their costs of providing humanitarian assistance to asylum seekers.”

Pelosi said the legislation “does not fund the Administration’s failed mass detention policy” and “places strict limits on influx shelters, protects sponsors from DHS immigration enforcement based on information collected by HHS during the vetting process and creates strong oversight by Congress including to protect unaccompanied children.” (Read more from “Pelosi Says the House Will Pass a Border Bill but There’s a Catch” HERE)

Ocasio-Cortez Refuses Invite To Visit Concentration Camps With Holocaust Survivor

On Sunday, socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) declined an invitation from a Holocaust remembrance group to visit Nazi concentration camps with a Holocaust survivor, suggesting that it was part of a “far-right” scheme designed for “political gain.”

Ocasio-Cortez made the remarks in response to a tweet from Rep. Steve King (R-IA), who was kicked off his congressional committees by Republican leaders after remarks he made about white nationalism.

In a tweet tagging Ocasio-Cortez and linking to a report from The Hill, King encouraged Ocasio-Cortez to accept the invite from the Holocaust remembrance group. . .

Ocasio-Cortez responded by saying she was rejecting the offer as she believed it was part of how “the far-right manipulates these moments for political gain.” . . .

It’s important to note that King was not inviting her to visit the Nazi concentration camps with him but rather was encouraging her to accept the offer from the Holocaust remembrance group. (Read more from “Ocasio-Cortez Refuses Invite to Visit Concentration Camps with Holocaust Survivor” HERE)

WEIRD: Trump Rape Accuser Says She Wishes She’d Asked for His Tax Returns During ‘Attack’

Author and former New York City gossip columnist E. Jean Carroll, who, earlier this week, accused President Donald Trump of attempting to rape her in a changing room at Bergdorf Goodman’s department store in the mid-1990s, told MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell that she wished she’d asked for Trump’s tax returns during the alleged sexual assault.

Carroll has been making the rounds of prime time television talk shows since revealing, in an interview with New York Magazine, that the now-president attacked her after the pair met in a chance encounter while shopping at Bergdorf Goodman’s in New York City. Carroll says Trump urged her to try on some lingerie before pushing her into a changing room, pinning her arms to her sides, and sexually assaulting her. Carroll claims she was able to fight Trump off and escape.

The allegation is being used as a teaser for Carroll’s forthcoming book on the “hideous” men she encountered while working as a gossip columnist and moving among New York City’s rich and famous, according to KTLA. She also reportedly claims to have been assaulted by CBS head Les Moonves.

Both men have emphatically denied Carroll’s claims. Trump said in a statement late last week that he could not recall ever meeting Carroll, and the only evidence presented that he may have greeted the former gossip columnist at some point was a candid photo taken of Trump and Carroll, both with dates, at a society event in the mid-1990s. . . .

Not only is the claim just … weird … but it seems odd to include a jab at Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns — a purely political issue that has surfaced only in the last several years as Democrats try to get a handle on whether Trump suffered financially in the years before declaring his run for president, and whether his presidency has been unduly influenced by outside financial factors — in a narrative about an alleged traumatic attack from the 1990s.
