Pelosi Tries to Argue Illegals Should Be Able to Vote…Using a Reagan Quote?

Earlier this week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi held a press conference in Austin, Texas. One of the issues that came up was whether or not “new immigrants” – translation: illegal aliens – should be allowed to vote. Of course, we know where Pelosi (and her Democratic caucus) stands on this issue. They believe anyone who lives in America, regardless of their citizenship status, should be able to vote in our elections. During her press conference, she made a rather strange appeal using a quote by President Ronald Reagan.

When we talk about newcomers, we have to recognize the constant reinvigoration of America that they are, that we all have been – our families. And that, unless you’re blessed to be Native American – which is a blessing in itself that we respect – but that constant reinvigoration of hope, determination, optimism, courage, to make the future better for the next generation, those are American traits.

And these newcomers make America more American. And we want them, when they come here, to be fully part of our system. And that means not suppressing the vote of our newcomers to America.

Ronald Reagan said this: ‘This is the last speech I will make as President of the United States and I have a message I want to communicate to the country I love.’ He went on to talk about the Statue of Liberty, what it means to the world and that beacon of hope, what it means to people who have come here and seen that statue to welcome them: our ancestors, our parents, our grandparents.

A ‘Candidate’ Is Leading the Democratic Race in Iowa, Despite Never Declaring Run

Former Vice President Joe Biden leads the way in the Democratic race in Iowa, even though he hasn’t officially joined the race for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

The first official poll from the Des Moines Register, assessing candidates for the Iowa Caucus set to take place just a little under a year from now, shows Biden in the lead with 25%, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is a close second with 25% of the vote, and the rest of the field far behind. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has around 9% of likely caucus-goers’ support, and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), a miserable 7%.

The Des Moines Register is the best tracking resource for Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucus, and although it’s only one of several early primaries for the Democratic field, it has a lasting impact on the nomination contest. In 2016, Sanders’ narrow loss to Hillary Clinton set up a narrative for the full 2016 primary season, ultimately leaving Sanders fans disenfranchised and convinced that Clinton had stolen the nomination from the more popular candidate.

The contest between Biden and Sanders seems no different, though Biden’s experience and overall political ideology polls well with Iowa voters — a good sign that Biden would have a significant base of support if and when he jumps into the race.

“Seventy percent of respondents say they believe Biden’s political views are neither too liberal nor too conservative, but instead, are “about right” — the highest percentage of any candidate tested,” the Register reports. “And 64 percent — including a majority in every demographic group — say they think Biden’s experience is an asset and he should enter the race. Radical LGBT Equality Act to Be Introduced in U.S. House Next Week

As promised during the midterm congressional elections last fall, Speaker of the House Rep. Nancy Pelosi has announced the impending introduction of sweeping pro-LGBT legislation long awaited by left-wing activists.

“Next week, [we] will be launching our Equality Act to end discrimination for the LGBTQ community and we will be launching our initiative to protect the DREAMers and temporary-protected status persons in our country,” the California Democrat announced Thursday, the pro-homosexual Washington Blade reports. “We said these things during the campaign, and we’re getting it done and we are telling the public about the paths that we are on to get them turned into law to make a difference in the lives of the American people.”

The so-called Equality Act would amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include “sex,” “sexual orientation,” and “gender identity” among expressly recognized “non-discrimination” categories in “public accommodations,” which would also be expanded to include many additional types of establishments including recreation, shopping, online retailers, healthcare services, and more.

It would also force anyone employing 15 or more people to recognize their claimed “gender identity,” forbid employers from “discriminating” based on “sexual orientation” or “gender identity,” and mandate transgender “access” to opposite-sex restrooms, locker rooms, and dressing rooms.

Conservatives have long warned that the legislation’s true purpose is not to protect homosexual or gender-confused Americans from tangible harm, but to force other Americans such as photographers, florists, and bakers to participate in same-sex “weddings”; and to force employers and businesses to accommodate cross-dressing, same-sex cohabitation, and sex-change treatments regardless of their own values or policies. Venezuela Goes Dark in Worst Blackout in DECADES

Venezuela entered its fourth day of blackouts in an “electricity crisis” that plunged most of the country’s 23 states, including the state home to the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, into complete darkness.

Reuters reports that international non-governmental organizations estimate that at least 17 people have died, nine of whom were waiting for emergency medical attention. Reuters was not able to independently verify the numbers, but they are being tabulated by the non-partisan NGO, Doctors For Health, which has been treating patients in Venezuela.

“The outage is by far the longest in decades. In 2013, Caracas and 17 of the country’s 23 states were hit by a six-hour blackout, while in 2018 eight states suffered a 10-hour power outage, government officials said at the time,” Reuters reported Sunday. Six of the country’s 23 states have no power at all.

Bloomberg reports that the outage began when a transformer exploded at the Guri Dam, one of the nation’s most important hydroelectric plants. The government says the explosion was “sabotage,” but it’s not immediately clear what caused the system to collapse. One government official blamed the problem on eroding infrastructure. . .

Flight Crashes Killing 157, Including 8 Americans

An Ethiopian Airlines flight crashed shortly after takeoff in Addis Ababa, killing all 157 people on board, including at least eight Americans, according to the Associated Press and other news agencies on the ground in Africa.

Reuters reports that all 149 passengers and eight crew members died aboard the flight, which crashed less than 50 miles (and less than ten minutes) into its planned journey. Eight Americans are among th dead, but Ethiopian state broadcasters listed “Kenyan, Ethiopian, American, Canadian, French, Chinese, Egyptian, Swedish, British, Dutch, Indian, Slovakian, Austrian, Swedish, Russian, Moroccan, Spanish, Polish, and Israeli citizens” among the victims.

Many of the passengers were part of a United Nations delegation, including four members of the U.N.’s World Food Program, headed to an environmental conference in Kenya, also according to Reuters.

The Ethiopian prime minister offered condolences to the friends and family of those who perished in the flight, the Associated Press reports; the airline — Africa’s largest — says that it is still engaged in a search and rescue operation, but that they have found no survivors.

“Tewolde Gebremariam, who is at the accident scene now, regrets to confirm that there are no survivors. He expresses his profound sympathy and condolences to the families and loved ones of passengers and crew who lost their lives in this tragic accident,” read a post on Ethiopian Airline’s social media accounts mid-day on Sunday. The Navy Fighter Pilot Judge Who Shot Down Mueller

By The Washington Examiner. A federal judge known for his impatience in court sentenced former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort on Thursday to less than four years behind bars, defying a requested prison term of 19 to 24 years by special counsel Robert Mueller.

T.S. Ellis III, who was appointed by President Ronald Reagan and serves on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, called Mueller’s recommended sentence “excessive.” Instead, the former U.S. Navy aviator, who piloted an F-4 Phantom before heading to Harvard Law School and then Oxford University, handed down a 47-month sentence. . .

The 78-year-old judge, who presided over the trial in which Manafort was convicted of eight financial crimes, including bank fraud, tax fraud, and failure to disclose a foreign bank account, seemed swayed by his attorneys’ argument for a sentence “substantially below” the federal guidelines. . .

But Manafort’s attorneys had hit back at the special counsel in their own sentencing memo, claiming prosecutors were trying to “vilify Mr. Manafort as a lifelong and irredeemable felon” and “spreading misinformation about Mr. Manafort to impugn his character in a manner that this country has not experienced in decades.”

Ellis was often curt during the case. At a pre-trial hearing, he questioned why the special counsel’s office had charged Manafort with crimes unrelated to their investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Trump says he feels ‘very badly’ for Paul Manafort, but ‘honored’ by sentencing judge

By The Washington Examiner. President Trump said Friday he felt “very badly” for Paul Manafort, but “very honored” by the federal judge who sentenced his former campaign manager to a shorter-than-expected prison sentence.

Trump told reporters at the White House that U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis’s sentencing of Manafort to 47 months in prison — far below federal sentencing guidelines — clears him of collusion allegations between his 2016 presidential campaign and Russian elements.

“I feel very badly for Paul Manafort. I think it has been a very, very tough time for him. But if you notice, both his lawyer, a highly respected man, and a very highly respected judge, the judge said there was no collusion with Russia,” Trump said.

“This had nothing to do with collusion. There was no collusion. It’s a collusion hoax, it’s a collusion witch hoax. I don’t collude with Russia,” Trump said. “[Manafort’s] lawyer went out of his way to make a statement last night, no collusion with Russia. There was absolutely none. The judge, I mean for whatever reason, I was very honored by it, also made the statement that this had nothing to do with collusion with Russia. So you know, keep it going. Keep the hoax going. Pentagon on Way to Activating Transgender Troop Ban

A federal judge removed a bar on President Donald Trump’s ban on transgender individuals serving in the military Thursday as litigation in the case moves forward.

U.S. District Judge George Russell ruled Thursday that an injunction should not stand, reversing his earlier decision, CNN reported. A final decision on the case, however, has not been reached.

Persons diagnosed with gender dysphoria who have undergone hormone therapy or gender reassignment surgery cannot enlist in the military under the ban, CBS News reported. Those who have been diagnosed but have not gone through treatments are still eligible, and transgender personnel currently serving will not be barred from continuing to serve. . .

The ruling is “deeply disappointing for our clients and for transgender service members across the nation,” ACLU attorney Joshua Block said in a statement. “We will continue to fight against this discriminatory policy and the Trump administration’s attacks on transgender people.” . . .

“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow … Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military,” Trump tweeted. Disgusting: Hillary Claims It Is ‘Dangerous’ to Not Have Abortion as a Human Right

Hillary Clinton called for abortion (under the guise of “reproductive rights) to be re-included on the U.S. Department of State’s human rights report, saying it was a “dangerous decision” by the Trump administration to remove it, according to Life News.

The former secretary of state made the comments in support of the Reproductive Rights Are Human Rights Act, which was introduced Thursday.

“The Reproductive Rights Are Human Rights Act would correct the Trump administration’s dangerous decision to remove reporting on reproductive rights from the State Department’s annual reports on human rights practices around the world,” she wrote on Twitter. “By requiring annual reporting on women’s access to basic health care like contraception, safe abortion, and maternal health care around the world, Congress can make sure the rights of women and girls will no longer be up for grabs in each election.” . . .

Michael Kozak, an ambassador for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, said last year that “reproductive rights” were removed from the report specifically because abortion is not a human right under international law.

“We have never taken the position that abortion was a right under—a human right under international law,” Kozak said. “This is supposed to be internationally recognized human rights, and it’s an issue on which—some countries prohibit abortion, some countries, like our own, pretty much no restriction on it, and we don’t say one of those is right and one of those is wrong. WATCH: The Insane Attack on Man and His Girlfriend That Got 6 Taco Bell Employees Fired

Six Philadelphia-area Taco Bell employees have been terminated after they allegedly attacked a customer and his girlfriend outside the fast-food restaurant for allegedly complaining about their long taco wait time.

“The altercation, which was captured on camera and posted on Twitter, took place Sunday night, Feb. 24, and was apparently sparked after customers were complaining about the long wait times for their meal orders,” reported Fox News.

Bryan Reese, the man who was attacked, posted a video of the brutal incident to Twitter, as well as photos of bloodied clothing, a police report, and his girlfriend’s scratched and cut-up neck. . .

“I was assaulted by a number of [Taco Bell] employees, when I reached out to [Taco Bell] for justice they offered a $20 gift card, they must have thought I said Birthday not Assault,” he captioned the video, which was shot by his friend.

“I backed out of the store. They continued to follow me. They put me on the ground, and I don’t really remember too much else. Except for when I got up my girlfriend was on the ground being beat, too. She wasn’t even in the store at the time,” Reese told ABC6.

Japanese Woman Honored by Guinness as Oldest Person

A 116-year-old Japanese woman who loves playing the board game Othello was honored Saturday as the world’s oldest living person by Guinness World Records.

The global authority on records officially recognized Kane Tanaka in a ceremony at the nursing home where she lives in Fukuoka, in Japan’s southwest. Her family and the mayor were present to celebrate.

Tanaka was born Jan. 2, 1903, the seventh among eight children. She married Hideo Tanaka in 1922, and they had four children and adopted another child. . .

Japanese tend to exhibit longevity and dominate the oldest-person list. Although changing dietary habits mean obesity has been rising, it’s still relatively rare in a nation whose culinary tradition focuses on fish, rice, vegetables and other food low in fat. Age is also traditionally respected here, meaning people stay active and feel useful into their 80s and beyond.
