Public Feud Between Starbucks’ Schultz and Elizabeth Warren Escalates Quickly

With the announcement by former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz Sunday that he’s strongly considering running for president as an independent because both parties have devolved into myopic and destructive “revenge politics,” his fellow liberals have turned on him for fear that he might end up getting Trump re-elected — all because he’s an “egotistical billionaire a**hole!”

And it’s not only the radical left activists and Democratic operatives shouting out in crowds or complaining behind the scenes about Schultz toying with a presidential run, some big names have begun to speak out against his potential independent run, among them fellow billionaire Michael Bloomberg. Another public figure on the left who is clearly not excited about a Schultz independent candidacy is the first Democrat to officially declare her own intentions to run: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (MA).

In less than two days, potential candidate Schultz vs. candidate Warren has already gone nuclear. Speaking with NPR Tuesday, Schultz opened fire on Warren’s “ridiculous” proposal to impose brand new taxes on capital assets of the wealthy.

“When I see Elizabeth Warren come out with a ridiculous plan of taxing wealthy people a surtax of 2 percent because it makes a good headline, or sends out a tweet, when she knows for a fact that is not something that’s ever going to be passed, this is what’s wrong,” Schultz told NPR in an interview. “You can’t just attack these things in a punitive way by punishing people.”

Warren has since fired back. Asked by Talking Points Memo if she is worried that Schultz is going to screw up the Democrats’ plans to take out Trump in 2020, the senator went to her standard class warfare rhetoric. “We have a billionaire who says he wants to jump into the race and the first issue he’s raised is ‘no new taxes on billionaires.’ Let’s see where that goes,” she told the outlet. STUDY: This Supposedly Causes Alzheimer’s

Porphyromonas gingivalis, a key bacteria in chronic gum disease, appears to be the cause of Alzheimer’s disease, researchers believe.

A slew of recent studies has focused on the connection between gum disease and Alzheimer’s, and researchers from the firm Cortexyme now believe their latest study shows P. gingivalis as the cause of the tragic memory loss disease, not a symptom.

“Bacteria involved in gum disease and other illnesses have been found after death in the brains of people who had Alzheimer’s, but until now, it hasn’t been clear whether these bacteria caused the disease or simply got in via brain damage caused by the condition,” reports New Scientist. . .

Regarding the link between the bacteria and Alzheimer’s, the site explains that experimental mice engineered to have the disease were found to have worsened symptoms if they had gum infections. Also, P. gingivalis “can cause Alzheimer’s-like brain inflammation, neural damage, and amyloid plaques in healthy mice.”

“In the new study, Cortexyme have now reported finding the toxic enzymes – called gingipains – that P. gingivalis uses to feed on human tissue in 96 per cent of the 54 Alzheimer’s brain samples they looked at, and found the bacteria themselves in all three Alzheimer’s brains whose DNA they examined,” the site noted. Border Patrol Wives Issue Formal Proposal for Nancy Pelosi in Brutal Letter

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall an “immorality” earlier this month and has refused to provide funding for such a barrier, prolonging a partial government shutdown that Trump temporarily put the kibosh on earlier this week.

So, wives of United States Border Patrol agents have formally asked Pelosi to the southern border to illustrate the need for a barrier.

“We the WIVES OF THE RGV (Rio Grande Valley) BP (Border Patrol) would like to cordially invite you to come visit McAllen, TX as President Trump did,” reads a letter from border agents’ significant others, posted from Jill Demanski’s Facebook account. The letter was posted last Thursday, just before Trump paused the shutdown.

“Most of us wives will be home and available,” the letter continues, noting that they will be available and not “jetting off to Puerto Rico for a few days.” Pelosi was one of 30 Democrats to go to Puerto Rico, accompanied by 109 lobbyists, during the shutdown, reports The Washington Examiner.

“We would like to show you around! You don’t need to bring any security detail. Our husbands/boyfriends/fiances/wives/significant others are actually very good at their jobs, thank goodness!” the letter says. “And since you see no threat here, I’m sure you can just make a quick flight down here alone. Hey, Trump might even allow you to use his plane for this visit!!”

Democrat Proposes Abortion Bill More Disgusting Than New York’s

The furor over Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s inhumane pro-abortion bill in New York, which allows abortion up to 24 weeks, has yet to subside. But on the heels of his signature, a lawmaker in the state of Virginia has introduced an even more radical piece of legislation. Virginia House of Delegates member Kathy Tran (D-Fairfax) has offered up a bill would allow a mother to get an abortion at the very end of her third trimester. Subcommittee Chair Del. Todd Gilbert (R-Shenandoah) had to hear it to believe it.

In the video, Gilbert asks Tran up until what point physicians be allowed to perform an abortion. She was very candid.

“Through the third trimester,” she said. “The third trimester goes all the way up to 40 weeks.” . . .

Pro-lifers are shocked that the extreme is suddenly becoming the new normal.

NYT Reporter Is Writing an ‘Expose Christian Schools’ Report. Here’s What He’s Found So Far.

The New York Times’s Dan Levin told Twitter on Thursday that he was writing a piece based on the hashtag #exposeChristianschools. He shared his prompt just a few days after the outrage over a group of Covington Catholic high school students and whether they taunted a group of Native American veterans. Further video footage suggested otherwise.

Some people predicted Levin’s final story would be a hit job on religious institutions. But, if there were those who tweeted back at him with negative experiences, they appeared to be few and far between. The majority of responses Levin received were from people eager to share how their Christian education shaped them for the better.

That’s when the New York Times contributor explained that he didn’t create the #exposeChristianschools hashtag. He was just writing a report on it and was happy to hear from everyone.

Non-Citizens Voting in Our Elections Is a Huge Problem

Let’s just imagine for a moment that there weren’t millions of criminals among the illegal aliens invading our country. Let’s assume that we are not dying from drugs, gangs, and diseases brought in and that there are no violent cartels bringing them in. By itself, the fact that illegal immigrants are likely voting in our elections is a national emergency in its own right that should demand immediate attention from our political leadership. The latest news from Texas’ election officials should raise the prominence of this most odious manifestation of stolen sovereignty, but thus far, aside from a Trump tweet, it has not blown up into a national issue.

Over the weekend, the Texas Department of Public Safety released the details of a voter registration analysis showing that 95,000 registered voters are suspected of having registered to vote as non-citizens. They further found that 58,000 of those registered voters cast ballots at least once since 1996.

Attorney General Ken Paxton and Gov. Greg Abbott immediately highlighted the importance of this finding and how urgent it is that the state act upon it:

The state government is calling on all the counties to send out letters to those people on this list and ask them to respond to an inquiry whether they have indeed become naturalized citizens. The 11-month investigation ordered by Paxton showed that these 95,000 individuals who applied for driver’s licenses as aliens registered to vote at some later date. According to the Longview News-Journal, the Texas Tribune contacted 13 of 15 counties with the highest numbers of these registered voters. Only one county, Galveston, said it is sending letters immediately.

Amazingly, within hours of the release, the Texas Tribune sought to “fact-check” this assertion and suggested that this is not really as much of a problem as the headline number indicates:

The Tribune is claiming that these numbers don’t prove much because they are a count of those who provided immigrant identification documents, such as green cards and work permits, as documentation for driver’s licenses. Therefore, the Tribune reporters are suggesting that some of them may have become naturalized but offered immigrant documents to verify their identity at the department of motor vehicles.

It’s amazing the lengths to which the liberal media will go in order to deny the problem of non-citizens voting, just like they deny the illegal alien crime wave. Aside from the absurdity of suggesting that a significant number of naturalized citizens would offer such documentation, they are missing the more important point. The fact that someone who is applying for the ultimate right of a citizen can merely rely on his driver’s license, which was issued upon a showing of immigrant documentation, is in itself a threat to our franchise. How have we come so far that not only is proof of citizenship not required for voter registration, but individuals can offer documents that prima facie indicate they are not citizens, yet still successfully register to vote without showing that they became naturalized citizens? Sure, a minority of them might have later become naturalized, but the fact that we have an “honor system” for voting is insane.

Moreover, the bigger problem is that the same liberals who deny the extent of the problem of non-citizens voting also oppose any effort not just to combat it but to even uncover data exposing it. Harris County, by far the biggest county in Texas, which contains a large foreign-born population, has refused to publicize the data that would allow outside groups to compare driver’s licenses against voter registration records to identify potential non-citizens. “This shows why Harris county must release the alien voting records we have sought for a year,” Public Interest Legal Foundation general counsel and President J. Christian Adams said in a statement. “We all know they exist. We all know aliens are voting in our elections. It’s time Harris and other [counties] stop hiding the documents.”

Adams’ group has filed a lawsuit against Harris and other major trouble spots in the country that refuse to comply with the National Voter Registration Act’s (NVRA) mandate to cleanse voter rolls of fraudulent voters and to allow public access to maintained records.

Here’s the problem that nobody is effectively combatting on the national level. Despite liberal grousing to the contrast, it is now easier to vote than ever. Between technology and a number of social services practically begging you to sign up to vote, it’s almost impossible not to register. Some states are now automatically registering anyone with a driver’s license. At the same time, there is no effective front-end or back-end check against non-citizens voting, and the courts have outright blocked states from requiring proof of citizenship, even though the federal registration form established by motor voter laws has a box asking if the applicant is a citizen!

With a record number of foreign nationals in this country – both legal and illegal – it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that a number of non-citizens will be seamlessly shunted into the voter registration system, often even without intent to violate the law. Worst of all, photo ID laws (the ones still standing after judicial nullification) don’t help for this form of voter fraud because these individuals have driver’s licenses with legitimate names and addresses.

Consider the fact that Texas doesn’t even automatically register voters, and you see how bad the problem is. Can you imagine what California looks like? A dozen states hand out driver’s licenses to illegal aliens – more than a million in California alone – and other states are being forced to do so by the courts.

Republicans had two years to fix this travesty, whether it’s requiring proof of citizenship, blocking the courts from interfering with photo ID laws, or discounting illegals in the Census. Now Democrats are seeking to make the problem worse. Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing on a bill that, among other things, would force automatic voter registration on the states, mandate that they accept same-day registration on Election Day, and strip them even of the existing avenues to clean their voter rolls. It’s no surprise why this bill is named “H.R. 1,” because Democrats prioritize any effort to get more votes, even if it comes at the expense of our sovereignty. Republicans, on the other hand, never prioritized protecting our franchise from fraud. The more this goes on, the less likely that they will ever get that opportunity again, because they will permanently be in the minority. A Leftist Extremist Like Kamala Harris Could Win the Presidency If Trump Takes Re-Election for Granted

On Monday night in Iowa, America was given a good hard look at the presidential campaign platform of Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., at a CNN town hall event. The first thing that should be clear to conservatives is that Harris is an extreme leftist. The second is that she has a very real chance to become president if President Trump and the Republicans don’t proactively run on policies that answer the Left.

Harris’ proposed policies are straight out of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ policy wishlist. She wants to “eliminate” private health insurance in America, replacing it with “Medicare for All” single-payer health insurance. If you like your doctor, you can’t keep him, and if you work in the health insurance industry, you’re out of a job, pal. She believes “assault weapons” have no place in “civil society.” Democrats define most semi-automatic rifles as “assault weapons” if they look scary enough. She will not vote for a wall on the southern border “under any circumstances;” wants a new national paid paternal leave entitlement; and has endorsed the “Green New Deal” popularized by socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. — a set of policies that would reduce the American economy to agrarian subsistence by ending the free market system.

Republicans should not make the naive mistake of believing Harris is too far Left to win, should she be the Democratic nominee. Democrats are adopting these ideas because they poll well. “Medicare for All” has 70 percent support among the American people. Even 52 percent of Republicans support it! The “Green New Deal” is supported by more than 80 percent of registered voters. A 2017 poll found most Americans support paid paternal leave as well. Sure, Harris is campaigning on a bunch of free stuff, but voters like free stuff if they’re not told who pays for it. That last part is key. If voters are told that Medicare for All requires raising taxes and long wait times at the doctor, support for it collapses. If Americans are unwilling to spend just $10 a month to fight climate change, they won’t support a Green New Deal takeover of the free market system.

Harris’ campaign platform is vulnerable. Trump can beat her. But conservatives need to be clear-eyed about President Trump’s chances of getting re-elected, because it’s no guarantee. The president’s disapproval ratings are at an all-time high for his presidency. A new ABC/Washington Post poll found that 56 percent of respondents say they definitely won’t vote for Trump for re-election. Six in 10 Americans now say the country is on the “wrong track.” These polls do not mean that Trump will lose the 2020 election. But they do show that Trump has work to do to convince the American people he deserves a second term in office.

To win, the president and the Republican Party should offer alternative proposals to the Left’s agenda. It is not enough to scoff at Medicare for All and say “no.” The status quo needs to change. A recent Gallup survey found that Americans are least satisfied on issues like the availability of affordable health care, immigration levels, and the quality of public education. So President Trump should announce and have Republicans in Congress introduce bills to make health care more affordable. There’s no shortage of conservative ideas: reform medical malpractice, streamline the FDA drug approval process, promote health status insurance for people with pre-existing conditions. The same goes for immigration and national security. Take up a school choice bill in Congress. And if Democrats in the House of Representatives want to obstruct and fight these ideas, Trump needs to make the proactive case that they are too obstructionist and too far Left to govern.

Presidential campaign season is upon us, whether we like it or not. President Trump has two years to make the case for re-election against a Democratic Party that is offering serious, if dangerous, ideas to address the issues Americans care about. Conservatives cannot take Trump’s re-election for granted. The Reckless Spending That Taxpayers Let Congress Get Away With

There are new Congressional Budget Office numbers out on the national debt, and America’s fiscal future is looking bleaker than ever. According to a new estimate, we’ll add $12 trillion to the total over the next decade, which CBO director Keith Hall calls “unsustainable.”

My colleague Chris Pandolfo is right: A driving force behind this problem is public apathy about it: “Numbers and statistics are boring. They don’t go viral. Celebrities don’t talk about them, and numbers as big as a trillion are impossible to wrap our minds around.”

But this is only half of the equation. The other side is that Washington really likes spending, and both major parties are guilty of it. As Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., and CR’s Daniel’s Horowitz have pointed out, the problem is more about spending than about revenue supposedly reduced by GOP tax cuts.

Each party, of course, gets its spending fix through different means. Whereas Democrats like burgeoning entitlement programs but don’t like the idea of reforming them and subsidies for green energy products that aren’t yet economically viable, Republicans like market-distorting farm subsidies and are usually averse to anything that might somehow reform or reduce defense spending. (Meanwhile, the Pentagon failed its first-ever audit back in November.)

There’s also widespread hesitation to do anything to meaningfully reform Social Security and Medicare, both of which are hurtling towards insolvency at faster rates than predicted.

Then you have emergency spending, which falls more along geographical lines than ideological ones. States in disaster-prone areas surely can’t be expected to put money aside to address the natural disasters than naturally occur there. The preferred Swamp method to address this is through massive emergency spending bills with even less oversight and more expedience than regular spending bills.

Of course, there’s all the odd, wasteful things like federal funding to study the sex habits of quails on cocaine, or $18 million to prop up Egypt’s tourism industry, or $200,000 to put on plays in Afghanistan. Seriously, if you haven’t read the 2018 Waste Report put out by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., you’re missing out. These are smaller than the bigger-ticket items above, but the sheer number of spending programs is a reminder of just how vast and complex the administrative state has gotten. That’s yet another front of the debt fight.

And all this is assisted by the mistaken cultural assumption that attention to a specific issue is best measured in the amount of taxpayer money dedicated to it. But when you have a hammer, the old saying goes, every problem looks like a nail. There are indeed a lot of misidentified nails in the D.C. Swamp. Veto Override? House Republican Suggests Congress Will Overrule Trump on Another Shutdown

The government will partially shut down again if President Trump and Congress cannot come to deal on border security funding by February 15. But it may not come to that if Republicans in Congress decide keeping government open is more important than fighting for Trump’s position on a border wall.

Some Republicans are there already. Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, told Politico that if the bipartisan committees in the House and Senate put forward a border security deal that members of both parties could support, it may have the votes to override a presidential veto.

“I think the committee will come up with a deal … If they come up with something that isn’t crazy, I think it’ll have enough votes to override a veto in the House and Senate,” Simpson said. “Because we’ve all learned, hopefully, that shutdowns don’t work, and they’re stupid.”

“Shutdowns don’t work” is a sentiment shared by Senate Republicans who also spoke to Politico, several of whom are raising concerns about shutting down the government again.

“I don’t think we want to face another shutdown. And I certainly don’t think we want to have emergency action taken. So the president and Congress will have to come together,” said Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah. “It goes almost without saying that shutdowns are a very bad idea. And we should not use them as a political weapon.”

Romney was one of six Senate Republicans who voted to open the government with out wall funding, supporting the Nancy Pelosi bill. With Trump’s polling at the lowest it’s ever been and the bad media coverage from the shutdown, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Congress has enough votes to override a Trump veto.

President Trump hasn’t vetoed any bills as president. He may want to avoid the issue altogether, bypassing Congress by declaring a national emergency on the border and repurposing military funding to build the wall. Another option Trump might consider is using his statutory authority under Title 10 of U.S. code to build fencing and infrastructure along drug corridors on the border. Is There a ‘Crisis’ at the Border? This Border Patrol Agent’s Answer Stuns Reporter

By The Blaze. A CBS News reporter appeared to be stunned when a Border Patrol agent told her that the crisis at the border was the worst that he has seen in decades.

Custom & Border Patrol agent Fernando Grijalva told Mireya Villarreal what he had seen at the border between the United States and Mexico in the state of Arizona. . .

“Let me put it this way, I’ve seen six different presidents in the time that I’ve been with the Border Patrol, and this is the worst crisis that I’ve seen,” he explained.

“You actually will use that word, ‘crisis’?” she asked.

Donald Trump Says He Would Be OK With Second Government Shutdown If Border Wall Doesn’t Get Funding

On Sunday morning, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney told reporters that Donald Trump is willing to undergo a second government shutdown should Congress refuse to fund his border wall. According to the Associated Press, should an agreement not be reached, the shutdown will resume on February 15.

Mulvaney spoke to both Face the Nation on CBS and Fox News Sunday regarding the very real possibility that a second government shutdown might be on the horizon. If that occurs, all the government agencies that have just been reopened will once again be shut down — leaving a lot of federal workers scrambling to survive without a paycheck.

“What he wants to do is fix this the way that things are supposed to get fixed with our government which is through legislation,” Mulvaney said during an interview. . .

After an unprecedented 35-day federal shutdown that left 800,000 federal employees without work, Trump gave in and agreed to reopen the government — without any funding agreed in for his $5.7 billion border wall.
