Student Groups Claim Thanksgiving Is ‘Celebration’ of ‘Ongoing Genocide.’ History Says LOL

The progressive war against American traditions continues on America’s college campuses. The Thanksgiving holiday is under attack for being associated with “genocide.”

The University of Oregon’s Native American Law Students Association and the Native American Student Union are hosting an event titled, “Thanks But No Thanks-giving: Decolonizing an American Holiday,” Kenneth Nelson reports for Campus Reform. The event seeks to teach students how they can be grateful “while raising our critical consciousness and identifying ways to decolonize the holiday.”

From the event description:

Millions of families gather together every year to celebrate Thanksgiving in the United States. Many Americans do not grow up thinking much of the history behind the holiday. The main messages are that of gratitude, food, and family; however, Thanksgiving is, foundationally speaking, a celebration of the ongoing genocide against native peoples and cultures across the globe. In collaboration with the Native American Student Association (NASU), we will focus on ways in which we can continue to show gratitude while raising our critical consciousness and identifying ways to decolonize the holiday.

Thanksgiving,”foundationally speaking,” is not a celebration of genocide. The first Thanksgiving meal was shared between Plymouth, Mass., colonists and Wampanoag Indians, giving thanks for God’s provision and the Indians’ help in teaching the struggling colonists how to survive.

Here’s a short history, courtesy of the History Channel:

In September 1620, a small ship called the Mayflower left Plymouth, England, carrying 102 passengers—an assortment of religious separatists seeking a new home where they could freely practice their faith and other individuals lured by the promise of prosperity and land ownership in the New World. After a treacherous and uncomfortable crossing that lasted 66 days, they dropped anchor near the tip of Cape Cod, far north of their intended destination at the mouth of the Hudson River. One month later, the Mayflower crossed Massachusetts Bay, where the Pilgrims, as they are now commonly known, began the work of establishing a village at Plymouth.

Throughout that first brutal winter, most of the colonists remained on board the ship, where they suffered from exposure, scurvy and outbreaks of contagious disease. Only half of the Mayflower’s original passengers and crew lived to see their first New England spring. In March, the remaining settlers moved ashore, where they received an astonishing visit from an Abenaki Indian who greeted them in English. Several days later, he returned with another Native American, Squanto, a member of the Pawtuxet tribe who had been kidnapped by an English sea captain and sold into slavery before escaping to London and returning to his homeland on an exploratory expedition. Squanto taught the Pilgrims, weakened by malnutrition and illness, how to cultivate corn, extract sap from maple trees, catch fish in the rivers and avoid poisonous plants. He also helped the settlers forge an alliance with the Wampanoag, a local tribe, which would endure for more than 50 years and tragically remains one of the sole examples of harmony between European colonists and Native Americans.

In November 1621, after the Pilgrims’ first corn harvest proved successful, Governor William Bradford organized a celebratory feast and invited a group of the fledgling colony’s Native American allies, including the Wampanoag chief Massasoit. Now remembered as American’s “first Thanksgiving”—although the Pilgrims themselves may not have used the term at the time—the festival lasted for three days. While no record exists of the historic banquet’s exact menu, the Pilgrim chronicler Edward Winslow wrote in his journal that Governor Bradford sent four men on a “fowling” mission in preparation for the event, and that the Wampanoag guests arrived bearing five deer. Historians have suggested that many of the dishes were likely prepared using traditional Native American spices and cooking methods. Because the Pilgrims had no oven and the Mayflower’s sugar supply had dwindled by the fall of 1621, the meal did not feature pies, cakes or other desserts, which have become a hallmark of contemporary celebrations.

The Thanksgiving holiday is literally a celebration of “one of the sole examples of harmony between European colonists and Native Americans.” But progressive iconoclasts need to rewrite the history of great American traditions to advance an ideology of oppression that demands government action to address perceived inequalities. So Thanksgiving must be rewritten to be a problematic celebration of “genocide” that Americans should feel bad about.

No thanks. (For more from “Student Groups Claim Thanksgiving Is ‘Celebration’ of ‘Ongoing Genocide.’ History Says LOL” please click HERE)

Mexican Immigration Agents Detain 213 Migrants in Fourth Caravan

By Washington Examiner. Mexican immigration agents on Wednesday detained almost all of the Central American migrants on a fourth caravan that recently entered Mexico seeking to reach the United States.

Mexico’s National Immigration Institute said 213 migrants were detained and taken to a processing center. Those found to lack proper documents may face repatriation to their home countries.

The migrants detained on a highway between the Guatemalan border and the southern Mexican city of Tapachula included 186 people from El Salvador, 16 from Guatemala, 10 Honduras and one Nicaraguan.

The group set out from El Salvador on Nov. 18 and apparently crossed the river dividing Guatemala and Mexico on Tuesday. That is the same route the three larger caravans took after entering Mexico starting Oct. 19.

The caravans find strength in numbers, and Mexican officials have been loath to confront the first caravans, which numbered between 1,500 and 6,000. But agents have detained smaller groups that split off from the larger caravans. (Read more from “Mexican Immigration Agents Detain 213 Migrants in Fourth Caravan” HERE)

Homeland Secretary Says Caravan Organizers Using Women and Children as Human Shields

By CBN News. Homeland Security Secretary Kirjsten Nielsen offered a disturbing assessment when she toured the border wall in southern California Tuesday.

She observed the work of Border Patrol and US active duty troops who have been installing new concertina wire along the wall in preparation for those in the caravan who will try to enter the US illegally.

Nielsen says 6,200 of the 10,000-strong caravan are already in Tijuana, and they have a strategy for sneaking across the border.

“Organizers of the caravan have been pushing women and children and others to the front of the caravan in the hope that law enforcement will not engage them,” Nielsen reports. “This is particularly dangerous given the unusual propensity for violence we have seen in this caravan.” (Read more from “Homeland Secretary Says Caravan Organizers Using Women and Children as Human Shields” HERE)

Watch: College Students Say Thanksgiving Is ‘Racist,’ Give Hilarious Excuses to Support Narrative

By The Blaze. Campus Reform correspondent Josiah Tejada visited the University of Oregon campus to interview students ahead of the university hosting a Thanksgiving-centric event titled, “Thanks But No Thanks-giving.”

The event, according to the outlet, “labeled the holiday as a ‘celebration’ of ‘ongoing genocide,’” and aimed to make its attendees more “culturally aware.” . . .

All was not a total loss, however: Several of the respondents admitted that they didn’t believe the holiday is a racist one, and some copped to simply appreciating the holiday because they have the freedoms to enjoy sharing a good, home-cooked meal with their families. Is Thanksgiving ‘Racist’?

By Campus Reform. . .To find out what students at the University of Oregon had to say about this topic, Campus Reform Oregon Campus Correspondent Josiah Tejada asked a number of students if Thanksgiving is “racist” or a “celebration” of genocide.

“There’s definitely a racist history to Thanksgiving and that should probably definitely be addressed more in education,” one student said. Another student told Campus Reform, “the whole concept with, like, taking land and assigning a value to it through cost is, like, it was different through European cultures.”

Yet another student characterized Turkey Day as “racist,” because “we’re celebrating taking away land from Natives.”

“It doesn’t have to be not celebrated, but if we can change it to instead of feeding ourselves maybe feeding the natives or donating to natives. Do we really need a giant feast?” one student opined. (Read more from “Is Thanksgiving ‘Racist’?” HERE)

Amazon HQ Will Cost New Yorkers $61,000 per Employee Thanks to Democrats’ Corporate Cronyism

Like many New Yorkers, I want Amazon to come to our state and its job creation to benefit our residents. You’d be hard-pressed to find a city or state in America that would not welcome the economic activity created by capitalism. But the announcement by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio that Amazon will receive $3 billion in our tax dollars in exchange for making Long Island City its new headquarters left fiscal policy wonks scratching their heads and taxpayers holding the bag.

Despite some unfriendly policies adopted by de Blasio and Cuomo over the years that have plaed additional burdens on our private sector, New York remains “the capital of the world” and a major center for commerce. This coupled with our talent pool has organically attracted major investors and job creators since its inception. . .

Other locations have managed to attract Amazon’s business without breaking the bank. For example, Virginia will now be home to the other Amazon HQ2, but at a fraction of the subsidies New York is providing. Between Arlington and the commonwealth of Virginia, the government will be subsidizing $573 million for the same 25,000 jobs that will be brought to New York. Whether this is a result of a raw deal or, as Cuomo admitted, a consequence of Virginia’s lower tax burden, it is the people of New York who will pay the price of the largest incentive package ever provided to a private company by the state.

Many of my colleagues on other side of the aisle are misdirecting their shots at Amazon, citing “corporate greed,” but you can’t blame the tech giant for taking advantage of the best deal given to them. After all, they are in the business of making and (unlike our city and state government) saving money. Instead, these Democrats should be pointing their fingers at the mayor and governor they endorsed and elected. Avenatti Won’t Face Felony Domestic Violence Charges

By ABC News. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has declined to file a felony case against attorney Michael Avenatti on domestic violence allegations and instead the case is being considered as a possible misdemeanor.

The DA’s office has referred Avenatti’s case to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office to review for misdemeanor consideration.

Avenatti was arrested last week in Los Angeles and booked on suspicion of domestic partner violence.

The circumstances of the case and identity of the victim have not been released, but Los Angeles-based actress Mareli Miniutti recently filed a request for a temporary restraining order against Avenatti, claiming they had a dispute about money that became a physical altercation.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office Has Declined to File a Felony Case Against Attorney Michael Avenatti

By The Daily Caller. More details have emerged in the alleged domestic abuse incident between lawyer-turned-potential presidential candidate Michael Avenatti and a former girlfriend.

Mareli Miniutti, 24, an actress who most recently appeared in “Ocean’s Eight,” detailed an alleged altercation in court documents that led to Avenatti getting arrested on felony domestic abuse and released on $50,000 bail last Wednesday.

Court documents show that Avenatti allegedly called Miniutti an “ungrateful bitch,” according to The Daily Beast.

He also allegedly told her not to “disrespect” him and the situation became violent. Avenatti allegedly pulled her out of bed by her wrist and then confiscated her phone while she was trying to call for help. He also allegedly dragged her across the apartment and pulled her back into the apartment when she tried going to a neighbor for help, the Washington Examiner reported. Barack Obama Trashes Americans Again

He’s not going away. We all thought Hillary Clinton had this problem because he was mostly in the basement after the 2016 election, but Barack Obama has become as insufferable as Lady Macbeth. Now, the bonus from both is that they animate Republicans. There are no other figures, besides Nancy Pelosi, that unite the GOP base. At the same time, we need to hear to their insufferable condescension about American social policy. The stench of elitism is overpowering—and one that shows the true arrogance of this political movement. Even when they lose, it’s not them or their awful views on policy that cost them at the polls, it was that everyone else who isn’t like them (i.e. most of the country) are just out of touch. The Democratic House gains were in part due to moderate Republicans jumping ship in the suburbs. They’re traitors, but that’s for another time.

In Chicago, Obama, speaking at the Obama Foundation Summit with David Eggers decided to return to his favorite pastimes: bashing Americans, saying that we’re dealing with a lot of stuff that are impediments to change. It’s our fault you see. We don’t hop onto his crappy Clean Power Plan, which Trump has gutted, because we’re dealing with mommy issues, blind, confused, and maybe a little racist, or something. No, your plan was crap, Barry. It would have torched the home budgets of fixed-income seniors, middle class America, and put the squeeze on rural Americans. It’s no shock that the CPP’s most detrimental impacts effected states that did not vote for him in 2012. (Read more from “Barack Obama Trashes Americans Again” HERE)

Dem Congresswoman Calls Trump ‘Saudi Arabia’s B**Ch,’ Gets Rebuked for Her Own Links to Assad

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) tweeted out a profane rebuke Wednesday of President Trump after Trump indicated that the United States would not take action against Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Gabbard’s remark drew some criticism of her own dealings with Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. She met with him in an unannounced trip in January 2017 and was skeptical that he was behind the deadly chemical weapons attack in April 2017. . .

Trump argued in a statement that hurting U.S. relations with Saudi Arabia would be a mistake. (Read more from “Dem Congresswoman Calls Trump ‘Saudi Arabia’s B**Ch,’ Gets Rebuked for Her Own Links to Assad” HERE)

American Killed After Illegally Making Contact With Isolated Indian Tribe

An America man’s trip to India’s North Sentinel Island, home to an indigenous tribe protected from outside contact by law, resulted in his death at the hands of tribesmen, authorities said Wednesday.

The man, John Allen Chau, 27, took a ride with a local fishermen around India’s Andaman Islands, AFP reports, then set out alone in a canoe to reach the remote North Sentinel Island, home to the Sentinelese, a tribe protected by law from outside contact “in a bid to protect their indigenous way of life and shield them from diseases.”

After several trips to the Andaman Islands, located in the Indian Ocean, Chau finally made it to the isolated island. According to AFP’s law enforcement sources, things immediately became dangerous.

“As soon as he set foot on the island, Chau found himself facing a flurry of arrows,” AFP reports. “Police have registered a case of murder and seven accused persons have been arrested.” BBC reports that “seven fishermen have been arrested for illegally ferrying the American to the island.” . . .

The Sentinelese, who number between 50 to 150, are known to be hostile to outsiders, shunning contact with the outside world. AFP notes that the Andamans are also home to the Jarawa tribe, who number around 400, and “who activists say are at threat from outsiders, who often bribe local authorities to spend a day out with them.” (Read more from “American Killed After Illegally Making Contact With Isolated Indian Tribe” HERE)

Facebook Pushed a Top Executive to Publicly Disavow Support for Trump, Then Fired Him

In one of the most shocking stories to get little media coverage this year, The Wall Street Journal reported ten days ago that Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg pressured a top executive at his company to apologize for his support of President Trump in the 2016 election, and issue a letter just before that election explaining that he had switched his support to libertarian Gary Johnson.

According to reporters Kirsten Grind and Keach Hagey, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey says that he was put on leave and then fired for his support for Trump. The Journal reported:

In the fall of 2016, as unhappiness over the donation simmered, Facebook executives including Mr. Zuckerberg pressured Mr. Luckey to publicly voice support for libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, despite Mr. Luckey’s yearslong support of Mr. Trump, according to people familiar with the conversations and internal emails viewed by The Wall Street Journal.

Luckey ended up negotiating a $100 million settlement, an acceleration of stock awards and bonuses that he would have received thanks to his sale of Oculus VR to Facebook in 2014. Facebook, for its part, denied that Luckey was fired for his political views. But Luckey was a supporter of President Trump’s for years, going back to 2011, when he urged Trump to run for president by mail. In September 2016, The Daily Beast reported that Luckey had given a $10,000 donation to NimbleAmerica, an anti-Hillary ad group focused on trolling the Democratic candidate. Luckey then apparently posted on a Reddit chain under a pseudonym regarding Clinton:

Hillary Clinton is corrupt, a warmonger, a freedom-stripper. Not the good kind you see dancing in bikinis on Independence day, the bad kind that strips freedom from citizens and grants it to donors.

Woman Spends Months in Jail After Lab Finds Meth in Car. It Was Actually Cotton Candy.

. . .Dasha Fincher was pulled over on New Year’s Eve 2016 for her tinted windows — which the officers later admitted were perfectly legal. Fincher said Monroe deputies Cody Maples and Allen Henderson noticed an open plastic bag in her car and assumed the worst, even though she told them it was just blue cotton candy.

Side note: For you “Breaking Bad” fans out there (maybe the cops were fans, too?) but blue meth isn’t actually a real thing. As close to pure as Walter White made his famous meth, the impurities would actually give it a yellow tinge.

But having a blue substance in a clear plastic bag still gave off alarm bells, so the deputies tested the bag with a roadside field test. They claimed the bag tested positive for methamphetamine, and Fincher was “arrested and charged with meth trafficking and possession [of] meth with intent to distribute,” according to Macon, Geogia, CBS affiliate 13WMAZ. Her bond was set at $1 million, and she spent months in jail because she couldn’t pay the cash bond.

Finally, in March 2017, a more comprehensive lab test came back and determined that the substance was not an illegal drug. Another four weeks passed before the charges against Fincher were dropped. . .

“Fincher’s lawsuit argues that the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was reckless and negligent and violated her civil rights,” 13WMAZ reported. “The suit said the test was manufactured by Sirchie Acquisitions, a company based in North Carolina. The test, called Nark II, has a history of false positive test results, the suit says.” (Read more from “Woman Spends Months in Jail After Lab Finds Meth in Car. It Was Actually Cotton Candy.” HERE)
