10% Unemployment for Post-9/11 Era Vets; 246,000 Looking for Work

Photo Credit: AP/Toby TalbotThe Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that among U.S. military veterans, who were on active duty at some point from September 2001 to the present, the unemployment rate is 10.0 percent.

When President Barack Obama was inaugurated in January 2009, the unemployment rate among this group of veterans was 8.9 percent.

The rate had dropped as low as 7.2 percent this June, but has been climbing since then, and is above the overall national unemployment rate, which is 7.3 percent.

In January 2009, when Obama took office, there were 135,000 unemployed post-9/11 era veterans. In October 2013, there were 246,000–an increase of 111,000 unemployed post-9/11 veterans during Obama’s presidency.

Sen. Inhofe: Christie Responsible for Re-Election of Obama

Photo Credit: APThere are at least a few Republicans who aren’t quite ready to throw in with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie as a savior of the party — including Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma, who says he blames Mr. Christie for President Obama’s re-election last year.

“I’d have a hard time supporting Chris Christie,” Mr. Inhofe told The Oklahoman. “Christie I still hold responsible for … the re-election of Obama.”

Mr. Christie was criticized in some Republican circles for publicly embracing Mr. Obama following the devastation Hurricane Sandy brought upon New Jersey and the Northeast last year right before the president defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the November election.

Limbaugh Compares Obama to Bernie Madoff; Fraud is Impeachable (+video)

Photo Credit: APDuring his Monday radio show, conservative talker Rush Limbaugh made the argument that President Barack Obama “is defrauding the entire country” by saying that “if you like your plan, you can keep it.”

Limbaugh compared Obama to Ponzi scheme huckster Bernie Madoff and called the fraud “impeachable.”

He also said that the miserable HealthCare.gov rollout has gone exactly as planned. In order for Obamacare to be a successful policy, it requires people losing their health insurance and being forced to use the Obamacare exchanges, he explained.

“Here’s the thing — if you believe nothing of what I say, if you believe nothing of what I say — believe this,” Limbaugh said. “What people do not understand is that as far as Obama is concerned, Obamacare is working perfectly right now. It is happening exactly as it was drawn up. It is happening exactly as it was designed.”

Obama Warns GOP: There Will Be a ‘Price to Pay’ for Defying ‘American People’

Photo Credit: Chip Somodevilla/Getty ImagesIn a stunning bit of hubris, President Obama told attendees at a Miami fundraiser that Republicans will pay a price for defying the will of the American people, which, Keith Koffler wrote at the White House Dossier Saturday, Obama himself embodies.

“So he’s pushing the line that in defying The Leader, it must be that Republicans are defying America itself,” Koffler wrote.

“The only way we can continue to place pressure to get that bill done is by making sure that the other side — or at least that small faction on the other side — understands there’s a price to pay when you don’t act on the basis of the interests of the American people. And so that’s something that I hope we can still get done by the end of this year,” Obama said, centering on his failed immigration bill.

Koffler called it “typical Obama.”

“Conservatives – forget for a moment he’s supposed to be their president too – are just a faction of heartless bastards who hate the ‘American values’ Obama thinks he represents,” he added.

Eakinomics – Mandatory Spending Crowding Out the Rest (+video)

Photo Credit: Washington Examiner American Action Forum President Douglas Holtz-Eakin is pushing back against complacency over deficits this week and calling for renewed attention to the problem of the United States’ long-term debt.

AAF, a right-leaning Washington think tank, is promoting videos of Holtz-Eakin, a former director of the Congressional Budget Office, drawing attention to the danger of rising long-term debt and calling on the federal government to cut spending, specifically mandatory spending — outlays on programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

The deficit for fiscal 2013 was the lowest since before President Obama took office at $680 billion, down from a high of $1.4 trillion in 2009. The broad-based sequestration spending cuts and the tax increases on high incomes that went into effect earlier in the year accounted for much of the reduction in the size of the government’s shortfall.

At $680 billion, the 2013 deficit was 4.1 percent of the country’s economic output. The Congressional Budget Office projects the deficit to keep falling, reaching 2 percent of gross domestic product by 2015. But over the longer term, as aging Baby Boomers enter retirement and draw on programs like Social Security and Medicare, deficits are expected to rise again, until the debt exceeds 100 percent of GDP in 2038.

By trying to refocus the debate on lowering the debt, Holtz-Eakin is taking on economic heavyweights like Larry Summers, Obama’s former top economic adviser, who argued in a recent Financial Times op-ed that addressing the debt should not be a priority right now.

Yet Another Victim of Anal Probing Comes Forward in New Mexico (+video)

It may be hard to believe that this could happen to yet another New Mexican. KOB’s 4 On Your Side team found a woman who claims she was violated by federal agents and doctors.

Laura Schaur Ives, Legal Director for the New Mexico Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, is representing the woman.

Schaur Ives said the woman doesn’t wish to be identified because she considers herself to be a victim of sexual assault. Schaur Ives said the woman crossed the border at a Port of Entry from Juarez, Mexico into El Paso.

A dog alerted to the woman, and Schaur Ives said federal agents stripped searched her at the facility, asked her to undress, to spread her genitalia and to cough. Female agents also allegedly pressed their fingers into her vagina looking for drugs.

The woman claims they didn’t discover anything during the on-site strip search, so they took her to University Medical Center of El Paso.

Photo Credit: ABC NewsCops Going Too Far in Videotaping DUI Suspects Changing Clothes?

By Christina Lopez.

In Puyallup, Wash., all eyes are on the city jail. The jail is equipped with video cameras, and police have been using them to take long, and some are claiming illegal, looks at some DUI — driving under the influence — suspects.

Early this year, defense attorney James Egan of Seattle was searching through public records for one of his DUI cases.

Egan discovered that police officers had been recording videos of mostly young women — the majority detained for DUIs — as they changed clothes and used the toilet.

“I’ve represented 1,000 people in DUIs, and I’ve never seen this,” Egan told ABC News’ “20/20.” “This practice appears to be a peep show.”

This May, Egan contacted 11 women and one male he found in his research, who were worried that the videos, which are public records, could go viral around the Internet. They have since taken the matter to court.

GOP’s Response if Obama Delays the ACA Individual Mandate

Photo Credit: APWhat will the GOP leadership do if Obama calls for a one year delay in the ACA individual mandate?

Suppose the software programming wizards at CGI Federal are not able to fundamentally transform their Frankenstein-like monster into an integrated seamless system where multiple independently developed software applications are stitched together like sundry body parts gathered from several crony capitalism graveyards.

What happens, then, if the ACA website continues to channel Dr. Frankenstein’s monster? “My person was hideous and my stature gigantic. What did this mean? Who was I? What was I? Whence did I come? What was my destination? These questions continually recurred, but I was unable to solve them.”

First, isn’t it likely that Democrat senators up for re-election in 2014 will be joined by outspoken Democrat members of the House in an effort to pressure President Obama into postponing the individual mandate portion of ACA?

Democrats would like nothing more than to take Obamacare off the table as a red hot campaign issue in the run-up to the November 2014 elections. Its potential toxicity is an existential threat to their political careers.

If the monster continues struggling to sit-up, stand-up and walk deep into December, the cumulative pressure on the President from members of his own party could find outspoken Democrats angrily parroting Senators Cruz and Lee’s call for a postponement in the individual mandate — until after the November ’14 elections.
But they probably won’t be called names like “terrorists” by Harry Reid.

Meanwhile, factor this into the possible equation: The next episode in the continuing saga of the “Debt Ceiling Deadline Crisis” is set to run January 15, 2014 — in about two months.

Imagine that the ACA website by mid-December is still rigidly stumbling forward as the villagers continue to scream. Frankenstein’s monster said, “I remembered Adam’s supplication to his Creator. But where was mine? He had abandoned me, and in the bitterness of my heart I cursed him.” At some point, it’ll be prudent for Obamacare’s creator to temporarily abandon his namesake.

When that happens, watch for the G.O.P. leadership to herald an opportunity for magnanimous bipartisan cooperation as they graciously acquiescent to a one-year postponement for Secretary Sebelius’ geek squads to perform major surgery on the ACA in exchange for some nominal, inconsequential, transitory Democrat concession attached to the debt ceiling…solution.

Why this possible outcome? Because, should all this evolve, do we really expect Boehner and McConnell to stand firm and say, “No deal. This is your monster, Mister President. Plus, it’s the ‘law of the land.’ So let him walk on, and let all the villagers see where he goes.”

Soldiers Killed by Terrorists Backed by US Cash

Photo Credit: Jonathan Saruk/Getty ImagesThe United States has paid more than $150 million to companies in Afghanistan that are accused of helping to finance terrorist attacks on American soldiers and facilities, according to the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction.

“It’s like the United States government subsidizing the Taliban, al Qaeda, the Haqqani network, those groups that are trying to shoot and kill our soldiers,” said Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., a member of the Senate’s Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees, in an interview to be broadcast tonight on ABC News’ “World News with Diane Sawyer”.

A list of 43 companies in Afghanistan was compiled by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) using data from both classified Pentagon investigative reports and Commerce Department lists of terror-connected companies.

Among them is a road construction company the U.S. says is partly owned by a leader of the brutal Haqqani network, which was blamed for an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Kabul that claimed 16 lives in 2011.

The cover letter of a classified investigation by the U.S. Army said there was evidence of a direct role of both the company and its owners “in the facilitation and operation of the Haqqani Network” and that “approximately $1-2 million per month flow[s] to Haqqani Network to finance its activities.”

Kidnapping Victim, Found Alive; Suspect Killed by Her Family Members

Photo Credit: CBS affiliate KLFYThe family of a missing Louisiana woman rescued her and killed her alleged abductor Friday, authorities said.

Authorities had been searching for Scott Thomas, 29, of Leonville, since Wednesday when he arrived at a daycare center and confronted Bethany Arceneaux, 29, of Duson.

Thomas, who is the father of Arceneaux’s child, allegedly forced Arceneaux into his vehicle and drove away. The pair’s 2-year-old child was left inside Arceneaux’s car at the daycare.

Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kip Judice confirmed Friday that friends and family were searching for Arceneaux Friday and entered a vacant house where they believed they heard someone screaming. Thomas, who was armed with a knife, allegedly began to injure Arceneaux and one of Arceneaux’s family members shot Thomas to stop him.

Judice told The Advertiser newspaper Thomas succumbed to injuries sustained in that confrontation.

Establishment GOP vs Grassroots: Civil War or Growing Pains?

Photo Credit: FreedomWorksBecause I am a nice guy and don’t want anyone to waste their time, here is a quick list of those who won’t enjoy this post:

1) People working for Mitch McConnell’s reelection.

2) People who come from families that internalize everything rather than fight it out and get it over with.

3) People who are Mitch McConnell.

The last several weeks have brought to the fore some ugly realities that the establishment GOP was hoping it could deal with using its go-to conflict resolution strategy: put it off, hope the problem goes away and then perhaps a nap.

Led by a host of Republican senators whose most notable achievement is getting elected a lot, the old guard has been busy publicly admonishing the more Tea Party-minded additions to the fold that they don’t know anything.
