Violence Erupts: Caravan Migrant Killed at Mexican Border

On Sunday, a new wave of hundreds of migrants heading toward the U.S. attempted to force their way over Mexico’s southern border. Violence erupted, leaving one of the migrants dead after what the group says was a rubber bullet fired by Mexican federal police struck him in the head. Mexican authorities, however, deny that their security forces are to blame.

The incident took place at the border near Tecun Uman, where the group of migrants “broke through border barriers,” as another group had done last week. The situation quickly devolved into violence.

“At a news conference late Sunday, Mexican Interior Secretary Alfonso Navarrete Prida denied that his country’s forces were responsible,” the Associated Press reports. “He said that Mexican federal police and immigration agents were attacked with rocks, glass bottles and fireworks when migrants broke through a gate on the Mexican side of the border, but that none of the officers were armed with firearms or anything that could fire rubber bullets. Navarrete said some of the attackers carried guns and firebombs.” . . .

The Trump administration is preparing for the arrival of the waves of migrants and being vocal about those efforts. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told the press traveling with him in Prague Sunday that an additional 1,000 active duty Army troops are being prepped to join the approximately 2,000 National Guard forces already at the southern border. Caravan Migrants Refuse Mexico’s Offer for Schooling, Jobs and Much More

Caravan migrants heading to the U.S. have refused Mexico’s offer to receive refugee status that would provide schooling, jobs, medical care and shelter. . .

The program gives refugee status to those who apply and provide migrants access to shelter, medical attention, schooling and temporary employment opportunities to Central American migrants in the Chiapas and Oaxaca states, according to The AP. . .

Those of working age would clean, repair and maintain infrastructure in the two southern Mexican states, according to the program. Migrants can also obtain Mexico’s version of a social security number called CURP (Clave Unica de Registro Publico). This will allow the migrants to have legal proof of identity, enter and leave shelters and open bank accounts.

The program came in response to the “unprecedented flow of people from Central American countries who have entered [into Mexico] the last few days,” according to the program’s press statement.

“The government of the Republic reiterates that the unrestricted commitment to the human rights or migrants does not mean an endorsement to irregular, massive and undocumented entry into Mexican territory, on the contrary it makes a new call to those who wish to enter Mexico, to avoid risks unnecessary and subject to the procedures that Mexican law establish,” a Ministry of the Interior press statement said. After This Tragedy, Illegal Caravan ‘Taking a Break’

The caravan traveling from Central America to the United States on Sunday decided to take a “break” in Southern Mexico after reports of a child was abducted, NBC News reported. Those who were on the caravan wanted to keep moving forward until a vote was taken and it was decided that they would stop for the day.

Tensions have been growing intense between those traveling on the caravan. Some of the illegal immigrants have relied on hitchhiking to travel between towns instead of walking the entire way. Part of the problem: as soon as seats become available, abled-body men rush to those vehicles, leaving women and children to walk.

A local nun scolded the men for their actions. She also said her church arranged for five vehicles to transport only women and children to their next stop in Niltepec, about 33 miles away. . .

The Mexican government seems to be in limbo, trying to decide whether or not they should help the caravan’s travelers press on or stop them from heading towards the United States. On Saturday, the Mexican government stepped in to help caravan riders for the first time. Grupo Beta, Mexico’s immigrant protection agency, gave rides to those falling behind and passed out water, The Washington Post reported. . .

To try and force more caravan riders to apply for asylum, around a hundred federal police dressed in riot gear blocked a rural highway in southern Mexico. Police eventually let the caravan continue after Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission reminded them that the stretch of highway, which lacked shade, water and restrooms, was not safe for the illegal immigrants. S. Korean Police Warn Korean Citizens in Canada to Stay Away From Pot or Face Criminal Charges

South Korean citizens living in Canada have received a new warning from police in their home country to stay away from pot or else they could face criminal charges at home.

The warning came earlier this week from Yoon Se-jin, head of the narcotics crime investigation division at Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, who said violators could face up to five years in prison, the Korea Times reported.

“Weed smokers will be punished according to the Korean law, even if they did so in countries where smoking marijuana is legal. There won’t be an exception,” Yoon said, according to the Korea Times. . .

About 23,000 South Korean students are living in Canada, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs data, the Korean Times reported. . .

“South Korea can’t screen everyone who visited a foreign country, but the police maintain a blacklist that leads to certain individuals being supervised,” Lee Chang-Hoon, a professor in the department of police administration at Hannam University in Daejeon, said. Whoa: Is Venezuela Behind the Caravan?

During an Oval Office meeting with President Trump on Tuesday afternoon, Vice President Mike Pence implied Venezuela may be behind the 7,000 person strong caravan moving north toward the United States.

“At the President’s direction, I spoke to President Hernandez of Honduras. He told me that the caravan that is now making its way through Mexico, headed for the southern border, was organized by leftist organizations and financed by Venezuela,” Pence revealed. “People that are driving this caravan north to challenge our sovereignty, to challenge our borders, are doing so without any regard for human life and doing advance some political statement, or in the case of human traffickers, strictly for financial profit. The president is absolutely determined to use all means at his disposal to organize efforts to have Mexico turn this caravan around.”

Earlier this year Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro accused the United States and the CIA of trying to assassinate him.

“It is inconceivable that there would not be individuals from the Middle East as a part of this growing caravan. What the President is determined to do is put the safety and security of the American people first, and I know the President will be addressing this in the coming days about ways we need to close the loopholes that human traffickers and other dangerous individuals used to entice vulnerable families to make the long and dangerous trek north,” Pence continued.

Justice Department Charged a Russian With Meddling in the Midterm Elections

The Department of Justice on Friday charged 44-year-old Russian Elena Alekseevna Khusyaynova of meddling in the United States’ midterm elections. Khusyaynova allegedly oversaw the finances of “Project Lakhta,”an international influence operation geared at causing commotion on social media.

“Project Lakhta” pushed “arguments and misinformation online about a host of divisive political issues, including immigration, the Confederate flag, gun control and National Football League protests during the national anthem,” the Washington Post reported. The efforts also focused heavily on mass shootings that took place in Charleston, Las Vegas and Charlottesville, CNN reported.

“The conspiracy has a strategic goal, which continues to this day, to sow division and discord in the US political system, including by creating social and political polarization, undermining faith in democratic institutions, and influencing US elections, including the upcoming 2018 midterm election,” the criminal complaint in the Eastern District of Virginia said Friday. . .

Yevgeniy Viktorovich Prigozhin, a close friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin, is said to be behind the two companies, Concord Management and Consulting LLC, and Concord Catering, who started the project, CBS News reported. . .

“Colored LGBT are less sophisticated than white; therefore, complicated phrases and messages do not work,” the guidance said, Business Insider reported. “Be careful dealing with racial content. Just like ordinary Blacks, Latinos, and Native Americans, colored LGBT people are very sensitive toward #whiteprivilege and they react to posts and pictures that favor white people.” (Read more from “Justice Department Charged a Russian With Meddling in the Midterm Elections” HERE)

U.S. Ambassador to Germany Responds to Ocasio-Cortez Comparing Nazis to Global Warming

U.S. Ambassador To Germany Richard Grenell slammed Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Monday after she compared Nazi Germany to global warming in a recent speech.

Grenell’s comments on Fox News’ “FOX & Friends” came after Ocasio-Cortez said at a campaign event on Friday that the blueprint the United States used to defeat Nazi Germany is the same blueprint that needs to be used to defeat global warming.

“It’s never okay, it’s never acceptable to minimize the Holocaust and the murder of six million Jews,” Grenell said. “Just note to anyone who is speaking publicly — never compare it to anything because nothing can be as horrific as 11 million people, six million Jews murdered.”

. . .

“So we talk about existential threats, the last time we had a really major existential threat to this country was around World War II,” Ocasio-Cortez said on Friday. “And so we’ve been here before and we have a blueprint of doing this before.”

“None of these things are new ideas,” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “What we had was an existential threat in the context of a war. We had a direct existential threat with another nation, this time it was Nazi Germany, and axis, who explicitly made the United States as an enemy, as an enemy.”

Mexican Ambassador Makes a Stunning Accusation About Migrant Caravan

The Mexican ambassador to the United States said that they had reason to believe that the migrant caravan from Honduras heading towards the U.S. border was not the result of a grassroots effort, but was “politically motivated.” . . .

“Mexico also issued a very clear statement saying if somebody is seeking asylum, Mexico is there along now with the U.N. to look at those claims, we want to make sure those claims are legitimate.” . . .

“We have evidence that this caravan is also very much politically motivated,” he claimed. . .

“But we have also made very clear that there’s no legal ground on which Mexico can issue a permit by which people can just go through Mexico towards the United States,” he concluded.

The caravan of migrants from Honduras began its long trek to the U.S. border on Saturday with about 1,000 participants. Reports say it has swelled to 4,000 migrants as it crossed from Honduras into Guatemala. (Read more from “Mexican Ambassador Makes a Stunning Accusation About Migrant Caravan” HERE)

Trump Announces That the U.S. Will Leave a Cold War-Era Disarmament Treaty With Russia

President Donald Trump confirmed on Saturday that the United States would be leaving a Cold War-era nuclear disarmament treaty with the Soviet Union. . .

The Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces treaty (INF) was signed by the United States and the Soviet Union in 1987. It bans either nation from creating ground-launch nuclear missiles capable of hitting a target within a range of 500 km to 5,500 km. The treaty led to the destruction of 2,700 nuclear missiles between the two nations. It also offered assurance to U.S. allies in Europe.

After finishing a rally in Nevada on Saturday, Trump told reporters “We’ll have to develop those weapons,” adding “we’re going to terminate the agreement and we’re going to pull out.”

On Friday, The Guardian reported that National Security Adviser John Bolton was pushing for the U.S. to withdraw from this treaty. The treaty has an expiration date of 2021, but Russia has already expressed interest in renewing the pact.

The U.S. has accused the Russians of already violating the treaty with its 9M729 cruise missiles. On Oct. 2, U.S. ambassador to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison said that Russia was “on notice” because of its use of these missiles, and that the United States “would be looking at the capability to take out a (Russian) missile that could hit any of our countries” referring to NATO member nations that would be in range of missiles banned by the 1987 treaty.
