Netanyahu Responds to U.S.: I Am Under Attack for Defending Israel

Photo Credit: ReutersPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday that he was under attack by “anonymous” critics simply because he was defending Israel and its national security interests, but stressed that he “cherished” Israel’s alliance with the United States despite the arguments.

Speaking to Knesset hours after a senior U.S. official was quoted calling him a “chickenshit prime minister,” Netanyahu told Knesset: “When there are pressures on Israel to concede its security, the easiest thing to do is to concede. You get a round of applause, ceremonies on grassy knolls, and then come the missiles and the tunnels.”

“I am not prepared to make concessions that will endanger our state,” Netanyahu said. “Understand, our national interests, topped by security and the unity of Jerusalem, are not what top the interests of those anonymous forces attacking us, and me personally. I am under attack simply because I am defending the State of Israel. If I didn’t stand firm on our national interests, I would not be under attack.”

“I respect and cherish the deep connection with the United States,” Netanyahu said. “Since the establishment of the state, we’ve had our arguments and then some. We have seen time after time, year and year, support rising among the American public. The strategic alliance between the stances is continuing and will continue.”

North Korea’s Nuclear Weapons: Will it Ever Use Them?

Photo Credit: NK NewsThis week 20 years ago the Agreed Framework between the United States and North Korea was signed, which suspended Pyongyang’s nuclear program in exchange for aid from Washington.

This deal, however, would collapse in the early part of the next decade, and North Korea has since conducted three nuclear tests, making them a de facto nuclear state despite a lack of international recognition. On the 20th anniversary of the Agreed Framework, experts on the North’s nuclear program thus see little reason to celebrate.

In part 4 of an NK News specialist opinion survey, a panel of North Korea watchers surveyed by NK News largely consider the North’s third nuclear test, conducted in early 2013 against the wishes of its long-time ally China, the most significant event on this front in recent years. There have also been, however, suspicious developments at the Yongbyon reactor – whose cooling tower was destroyed after an agreement with Washington in 2008, but whose activities were evidently relaunched in 2013 following an announcement from Pyongyang.

However, North Korea watchers are convinced that the odds of a nuclear attack by the rogue state against its antagonists – Seoul, Tokyo and Washington – remains unlikely even if the North develops the ability to do so. The risk, they said, remains in the potential for miscalculation given the North’s tense relationship with those states, particularly Seoul.

Canadian PM Calls 'Brutal and Violent' Parliament Attack Terrorism, While Our President Can't Bring Himself to Utter the Word

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper described the perpetrator of a “brutal and violent” attack on the Parliament complex in Ottawa that left a soldier dead Wednesday as a “terrorist” in an address to the nation.

“We will not be intimidated. Canada will never be intimidated,” Harper said before vowing that the attack would “lead us to strengthen our resolve and redouble our efforts” to keep the country safe and work with Canada’s allies to fight terrorists.

The assault rocked Parliament over and over with the boom of gunfire, led MPs to barricade doors with chairs and sent people streaming from the building in fear. Harper was addressing a caucus when the attack began outside the door, but he safely escaped. He gave his address Wednesday evening from an undisclosed location.

Earlier Wednesday, Canadian authorities identified the shooter as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, 32. A government official told Fox News that they have been advised that Zehaf-Bibeau, a Quebec native, was thought to be a recent convert to Islam who had changed his name from Michael Joseph Hall. Investigators offered little additional information about the gunman. However, Harper said in his address that “in the days to come we will learn about the terrorist and any accomplices he may have had.”

Court records that appear to be the gunman’s show that he had a long rap sheet, with a string of convictions for assault, robbery, drug and weapons offenses, and other crimes.

In Emotional Speech, Putin Says Russia Will Not Tolerate U.S. Domination

Photo Credit: AP / RIA-Novosti, Mikhail Klimentyev, Presidential Press ServicePresident Vladimir Putin of Russia said Friday that the world is becoming an increasingly dangerous place because of U.S. attempts to enforce its will on other countries and that his nation will not comply.

In an emotional speech before international political experts, Putin unleashed scathing criticism of the United States for what he called its disregard of international law and unilateral use of force.

If the United State fails to abandon its “desire of eternal domination,” then “hopes for peaceful and stable development will be illusory, and today’s upheavals will herald the collapse of global world order,” Putin said during a meeting that lasted about three hours in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

His voice strained with anger, Putin accused the U.S. and its allies of trying to “tailor the world exclusively to their needs” since the end of the Cold War, using economic pressure and military force and often supporting extremist groups to achieve their goals.

He cited the wars in Iraq, Libya and Syria as examples of flawed moves that have led to chaos and left Washington and its allies “fighting against the results of their own policy.”

Jews Under Siege in Jerusalem Amid Obama Promise

Photo Credit: WNDDid behind-the-scenes White House support for the Palestinian position on eastern Jerusalem help embolden a violent Palestinian campaign against Israeli civilians in those areas?

The campaign of rock-throwing and other acts of violence and intimidation has been targeting Jews in eastern sections of Jerusalem – areas the Palestinians claim as a future capital. The Palestinian claim has been bolstered by Obama administration behind-the-scenes support, as WND reported earlier this month.

A terrorist yesterday used a vehicle to plow through a crowd of Israelis at an eastern Jerusalem light rail station, killing a 3-month-old baby and injuring seven other people.

The terrorist has been identified as Abdel Rahman Al-Shaludi, a Palestinian resident of the eastern Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan.

Netanyahu blames Palestinian president

While security officials are investigating whether he was acting alone, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu squarely blamed Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas for supporting a culture of terrorism.

ISIS Massacred Every Man And Boy Over 15 In Muslim Town

Photo Credit: ReutersThe Islamic State in Iraq and Syria’s (ISIS) single bloodiest operation to date — the execution of over 700 Shaitat tribesman over a three day period in August — received little to no coverage from western media outlets, The Washington Post reports.

The massacre targeted all men and boys older than 15, and was in response to an uprising.

After years of rejecting the central Syrian government, the Shaitat tribe was forced to sign a July truce with ISIS after jihadist forces captured the massive supply of U.S. munitions stockpiled in the Iraqi city of Mosul.

When ISIS descended upon the Syrian town of Abu Hamam, “we realized we had no hope. We were surrounded. We wanted to save our people,” said one Shaitat fighter.

But the uneasy cease-fire between the Sunnis and ISIS’s extreme jihadist faction quickly decayed into violence.

Fowle, 56, who was detained in June, allegedly for leaving a Bible in his hotel room in North Korea, was home today after negotiators secured his release.

At the time, North Korean state media said he had “acted in violation of the [North Korean] law, contrary to the purpose of tourism during his stay.”

State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf said Washington has tried for months to send a high-level envoy to North Korea to seek release of the three men.

Police Say Driver Who Hit Two Canadian Soldiers Before Being Shot Was 'Radicalized'

Photo Credit: REUTERS / Christinne MuschiA Quebec man who struck two Canadian military members with his car before being fatally shot by police Monday had been “radicalized,” authorities said.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said that Martin Rouleau, 25, of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, was known to provincial and federal law enforcement agencies, according to CBC News. Police declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing investigation.

A statement from the office of Prime Minister Stephen Harper late Monday said that authorities “have confirmed that there are indications that this is clearly an individual who has been radicalized … Canadians should remain vigilant.” Harper was briefed about the incident by the head of Canada’s national police force, the head of the military and his national security adviser.

One neighbor told reporters that Rouleau stopped wearing jeans and started wearing a tunic and that he changed over the last year and was alone a lot. Another neighbor said Rouleau converted to Islam a little over a year ago.

Rouleau was shot after striking two members of the military in a parking lot mall near Montreal. He died a few hours later.
