Dershowitz Sues Netflix Over Jeffrey Epstein Miniseries

Alan Dershowitz sued Netflix over the way he was portrayed in the streaming service’s series on Jeffrey Epstein, the late financier charged with orchestrating a sex-trafficking ring.

The Florida-based lawyer was misled about his involvement in the miniseries, Filthy Rich, he said, according to a lawsuit filed in Miami federal court. Dershowitz, 82, also accused the company of presenting “categorically false” claims from Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s alleged victims, that she and the lawyer had intercourse.

“Giuffre’s accusations that she had sex with Professor Dershowitz are categorically false, and Professor Dershowitz has denied and disproved the accusations — including under oath subject to the penalties of perjury,” the lawsuit read. . .

Dershowitz, who served as Epstein’s attorney during a 2008 conviction for a prostitution charge, played a large role in the show, which detailed a flurry of accusations that Epstein recruited underage girls for massages and sexually molested them. REPORT: Teacher Placed on Leave After Wearing Trump Mask on Anniversary of George Floyd Death

A teacher at Minneapolis Public Schools was placed on leave after allegedly wearing a Donald Trump mask to school on the anniversary of George Floyd’s death, WCCO reported Wednesday. . .

Minnesota Public Schools told WCCO it was investigating the allegations.

Report: Dems Are Refusing to Allow GOP to View Capitol Riot Videos

Democrats running the U.S. Capitol building have refused to let Republicans see the video documentation of what happened there on Jan. 6, according to Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif. . .

Nunes was blunt:

“Tell me how many people actually carried a hammer, broke windows, or aided and abetted those people that destroyed federal property?” he said. “Why won’t you show us the videotapes? Republicans have yet to see the videotapes of what happened on January 6. Why are they not showing us the videotapes and why don’t we know who broke the windows and damaged public property?

“Because I tell you, I am all for those people who broke windows to going to jail for a long time. But what I’m not for is for people sitting in jail, like I understand, there is very few people reporting on this right now, but what I understand there are people who are sitting in jail right now who are having their due process rights violated. I talked to a lot of people who said, ‘Hey, we didn’t even know we couldn’t be in the Capitol.'” . . .

Support for BLM Radicalism Plummets

Support for the radicalism of the Black Lives Matter agenda surged a year ago amid the controversial deaths of several blacks at the hands of police in America. . .

But now that support is falling, according to Civiqs, an online polling company.

According to a commentary in the New York Times, “After Mr. Floyd’s death, Republicans reported much stronger support for Black Lives Matter than they had earlier in 2020. For a party often characterized by its racial insensitivity and antagonism toward racial minorities, this increase in support was striking. But perhaps even more striking is its rapid decline.”

The Post Millennial explained, “Black Lives Matter initially boasted support from individuals in both Democrat and Republican parties, until riots perpetuated by BLM and other far-left groups, were at the forefront of the destruction of U.S. cities. Property damage, arsons, looting, assaults on law enforcement officers and civilians; are only a few examples of the violence our cities endured.” . . .

Biden’s First Defense Budget Would Emphasize Taking on China

Defense Department leadership told lawmakers Thursday the Pentagon’s first budget request under President Joe Biden will emphasize taking on China, with a proposal to increase research funding sharply.

The White House is slated to roll out its first federal spending blueprint on Friday, meaning lawmakers are still waiting to get hard numbers from the administration. Still, members of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense worried the Chinese military would grow faster than the United States’s. They also made clear they see no clear direction from the Defense Department for divesting from expensive, older systems that often benefit political interests over strategic ones.

“It funds the right mix of capabilities that we need most to defend this nation now and in the future,” said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

The State Department launched the previously undisclosed inquiry last fall under President Donald Trump — but the effort was shut down this spring because of “concerns about the quality of its work,” CNN reported, citing three unnamed sources.

Allies of Mike Pompeo, Trump’s secretary of state, were looking into the possibility that the coronavirus pandemic may have started in the Wuhan Institute of Virology and not in nature, CNN reported. . .

Senate Bill Will Require Biden Administration to Declassify Intel on COVID-19 Origins

The Senate approved a bill that would require the Biden administration and the director of national intelligence to declassify intelligence on the origins of COVID-19 by unanimous consent Wednesday evening.

“The American people deserve to know about the origins of COVID-19,” Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley said on the Senate floor before the bill passed. “They deserve to know how this terrible pandemic that has ravaged the globe and our country, how it got started, and what China’s role was in starting it.”

He said that voters deserved to see the evidence and judge for themselves, rather than different speculation from various administration officials on where the virus may have come from. . .

In a statement before the vote, Biden said intelligence leaders were weighing two possible scenarios – that the virus either leapt to a human from contact with an infected animal or that it accidentally leaked from a laboratory in Wuhan, China. Tennessee Bans Critical Race Theory From Being Taught in Schools

Tennessee is the latest state to ban teachers from teaching certain concepts of race and racism in public schools, where teachers risk losing valuable state funding if they violate the new measure.

Republican Gov. Bill Lee signed a measure into law Monday after it attracted some of the most impassioned debates inside the GOP-controlled General Assembly this year. He signaled his support after it cleared the Legislature, arguing that students should learn “the exceptionalism of our nation,” not things that “inherently divide” people.

“We need to make sure that our kids recognize that this country is moving toward a more perfect union, that we should teach the exceptionalism of our nation and how people can live together and work together to make a greater nation, and to not teach things that inherently divide or pit either Americans against Americans or people groups against people groups,” Lee told reporters at the time.

The legislation, which was amended several times in the final days of the legislative session, takes effect July 1. U.S. Army: 50% of Females Will be Kicked Out of Military if Genderless Physical Fitness Tests Continue

The Army is considering adding gender-specific standards to its new Army Combat Fitness Test, or ACFT, after early data shows nearly half of female soldiers can’t pass the test and might face being removed from service once it becomes official next year.

Service officials, including Sergeant Major of the Army Michael Grinston, testified before a House Appropriations Committee subpanel Monday that scores may end up being separated by gender to identify the 1st, 10th, 25th and 50th percentile of soldiers.

In practice, this could mean men and women still would have to meet the same standards but would not be compared to one another. Physical fitness scores are heavily considered in promotions, especially in combat-arms jobs such as infantry and cavalry.

Army officials said one possibility would be to note the soldier’s percentile ranking in their record. For example, the record could show the soldier was in the top 10% of fitness ability among their gender across the Army. . .

The news comes shortly after Military.com obtained internal Army data showing that 44% of women are failing the ACFT, compared to 7% of men. The data suggests women get better at the test as they become more familiar. Failing to pass an official fitness test can quickly lead to a soldier being booted out of the military; at this time, ACFT scores do not count against those who take them. Amazon Reveals When Bezos Will Step Down as CEO

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has announced the date that he will step down from his current role with the company.

Bezos, who helms the country’s second-largest company by revenue, announced on Wednesday during Amazon’s annual shareholder meeting that he will step down on July 5 and be replaced by Andy Jassy, who currently heads Amazon Web Services.

“We chose that date because it’s sentimental for me, the day Amazon was incorporated in 1994, exactly 27 years ago,” Bezos said during the virtual gathering.

After his departure, Bezos will transition into the role of executive chairman of the Amazon board. The company announced that Bezos was leaving the chief executive position in February in its fourth-quarter financial results.
