Nearly 60 West Point Cadets Admit To Cheating in Worst Academic Scandal in Decades

The U.S. Military Academy at West Point accused over 70 of its cadets of cheating on an exam, marking the academy’s worst academic violation since 1976, USA Today reported Monday.

Fifty-eight cadets admitted to cheating on a remote math exam, according to USA Today. Most of the cadets have been enrolled in a rehabilitation program and will be on probation for the duration of their time at West Point.

“There’s no excuse for cheating when the fundamental code for cadets is that they should not lie, cheat or steal,” Tim Bakken, a law professor at West Point told USA Today. “Therefore when the military tries to downplay effects of cheating at the academy, we’re really downplaying the effects on the military as a whole. We rely on the military to tell us honestly when we should fight wars, and when we can win them.”

West Point instructors concluded 72 first year cadets and one in their second year cheated on a May calculus final when all them made the same mistake, according to USA Today. So far, two cases have been dismissed and four dropped after cadets resigned. The academy determined that, out of the 67 remaining cases, 55 cadets violated the honor code and the cadets have been enrolled in the Willful Admission Program. Half a Million Americans Have Received COVID Vaccine

More than 550,000 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered in the United States with more to come, just as Congress approves another round of aid.

The U.S. government began its massive vaccination rollout last week, starting with administering the first doses of the Pfizer vaccine to front-line healthcare workers. So far, at least 556,208 doses have been administered, a number that is expected to balloon as more doses of the Pfizer vaccine and first doses of the Moderna vaccine are administered to healthcare providers and long-term care facilities.

The first 5.9 million doses of the Moderna vaccine shipped out over the weekend and arrived at some hospitals Monday morning, in addition to another 2 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Moderna said it will be able to deliver 20 million doses of the vaccine by the end of December and another 80 million in the first few months of 2021.

President-elect Joe Biden and incoming first lady Jill Biden were given the first of two doses of the Pfizer vaccine in Wilmington, Delaware, Monday in part as a way to help increase confidence in the shot. (Read more from “Half a Million Americans Have Received COVID Vaccine” HERE)

These Are a Handful of Garbage Items Tossed Into the COVID Relief Bill

There have been complaints – and very valid ones at that – about members of Congress and their staff not having enough time to read the text of the more than 5,000 page document. . .

That begs the question: what is in the bill that is not tied to the pandemic? Here are just a few:

In Deciding the 2020 Election, Congress Will Get the Last Word

The Senate and House will meet in a joint session on Jan. 6, a day the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg labeled the date of “ultimate significance” in our electoral process, to count the recently cast electoral votes. What happens that day will determine the outcome of the presidential election. . .

The Electoral Count Act provides that after the electors in each state and the District of Columbia vote on Dec. 14, they must sign a certificate of their votes that is then sealed and sent to the president of the Senate.

At 1:00 p.m. on Jan. 6, a joint session of Congress convenes, at which the presiding officer opens the states’ certificates in alphabetical order. Each certificate is then presented to “tellers” who read the votes aloud, after which the presiding officer invites objections.

Under the law, objections must be presented in writing and signed by at least one senator and one representative. When a properly made objection is received, the separate houses retreat to their respective chambers for two hours of debate and a vote on whether to count the votes in question.

The chambers must vote separately on each objection. If a majority in each supports the objection, the votes in question are excluded. If the objection garners the support of less than a majority in either chamber, it fails, and the challenged votes are counted. Georgia Senators: ‘Coordinated Illegal Activities’ Flipped Election to Biden

There’s evidence that workers at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on the night of the election engaged in “coordinated illegal activities” that were sufficient to change the outcome, contend Georiga state senators in a report.

“The events at the State Farm Arena are particularly disturbing because they demonstrated intent on the part of election workers to exclude the public from viewing the counting of ballots, an intentional disregard for the law,” said the report from the state Senate’s Election Law Study Subcommittee.

The senators, the Epoch Times reported, charged that the “number of votes that could have been counted in that length of time was sufficient to change the results of the presidential election and the senatorial contests.”

“Furthermore, there appears to be coordinated illegal activities by election workers themselves who purposely placed fraudulent ballots into the final election totals,” the lawmakers said in the report, issued Thursday.

The chairman of the subcommittee that produced the report, William Ligon, a Republican, said it has not been formally approved by either the subcommittee or the committee. (Read more from “Georgia Senators: ‘Coordinated Illegal Activities’ Flipped Election to Biden” HERE)

This Senator-Elect Indicates He Will Join House-Led Challenge of Electoral College

Congress is set to convene on Jan. 6 to formally count votes cast by the Electoral College. While some House Republicans intend to object to Biden’s electors in some states, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is reportedly working to stamp out such challenges in the upper chamber. One Senator-elect, however, has indicated that he plans to join a House-led effort to challenge the results.

According to reports, Senator-elect Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) may join an effort led by fellow Alabamian GOP Rep. Mo Brooks and challenge the count of the Electoral College.

“You’ll see what’s coming,” Sen.-elect Tuberville, said recently. “You’ve been reading about in the House. We’re going to have to do it in the Senate.”

Rep. Brooks is leading the House effort to challenge the count but needs a single Senator to join his effort. If successful, the bicameral challenge would then trigger a debate and vote over the state electors in both chambers of Congress. While such an objection may delay the outcome of the vote count, it’s not likely to change the results given the current composition of Congress and sentiments on the Hill. Trump Goes Public With Decision About Martial Law to Hold Another Election; Trump Promises ‘Wild’ Protest in Washington DC on Jan. 6

By WND. On Sunday, President Donald Trump put the rumors to rest that he would declare martial law. . .

Although the Electoral College has declared presumptive President-elect Joe Biden the winner of the Nov. 3 presidential election, the Trump campaign has insisted that there has been voter fraud in states that include Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin, as well as Pennsylvania.

Despite multiple anecdotal claims of voting irregularities, proof has yet to surface that there was a widespread effort to distort the voting process in such a way that would have impacted the final results of the presidential election. Numerous affidavits testifying to various types of election fraud have been filed in courts in several swing states. Biden Won’t Discuss Hunter Biden Investigation With Attorney General Candidates

A top aide for Joe Biden said the president-elect would not discuss the investigation of his son Hunter with any of his candidates for attorney general, even after one takes office.

Jen Psaki, picked by Biden to serve as his press secretary, also declined on Sunday to say whether the incoming president would keep the U.S. attorney known to be investigating the younger Biden.

She was asked by Chris Wallace of Fox News Sunday about whether David Weiss, the U.S. attorney for Delaware known to be investigating at least Hunter Biden’s taxes, would be allowed to finish the job, and about what Biden thinks about President Trump considering appointing a special counsel to look into Biden’s son.

“He will not be discussing an investigation of his son with any attorney general candidates, he will not be discussing it with anyone he is considering for the role, and he will not be discussing it with a future attorney general. It will be up to the purview of a future attorney general in his administration to determine how to handle any investigation,” Psaki said. “As you know, U.S. attorneys are — that’s a personnel decision. We’re far from there in the process, given we haven’t announced an attorney general. … But we’re going to allow the process to work how it should, which is for the Justice Department to be run independently by the attorney general at the top.”

Hunter Biden has been under criminal investigation stretching as far back as 2018 as federal authorities scrutinize his taxes and foreign business dealings, and while the full scope of the federal inquiries have not been made public, the 50-year-old’s financial transactions with China are likely at the forefront. President-elect Biden’s campaign, along with many in the media, had dismissed the Hunter laptop story and other allegations as being part of a Russian disinformation operation, even though Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe said he had not seen “intelligence that supports that … Hunter Biden’s laptop is part of some Russian disinformation campaign.” (Read more from “Biden Won’t Discuss Hunter Biden Investigation With Attorney General Candidates” HERE)

Trump Says Media Is Exaggerating Extent of Recent Cyberattack on U.S.

President Donald Trump responded to the unprecedented cyberattack on multiple American government departments and private businesses, saying that the attack is “well under control” and being exaggerated by the “Fake News Media.”

Trump, who had not publicly commented on the attack until Saturday morning, placed blame on China, contradicting some U.S. government officials – including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo – who have said that Russia was the most likely actor to have launched it.

“The Cyber Hack is far greater in the Fake News Media than in actuality. I have been fully briefed and everything is well under control,” Trump tweeted Saturday morning, adding that the media was afraid to acknowledge that it could have been China, not Russia, who carried out the attack. . .

The attack used an array of sophisticated tools to tap into dozens of government and private networks, including the Pentagon, the Treasury and U.S. nuclear laboratories. Intelligence agencies told Congress that the attack was likely carried out by the S.V.R., a top Russian intelligence agency that descended from the K.G.B.

In a joint statement released Wednesday, the F.B.I., Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and Office of the Director of National Intelligence said that they were “investigating and gathering intelligence in order to attribute, pursue, and disrupt the responsible threat actors.” (Read more from “Trump Says Media Is Exaggerating Extent of Recent Cyberattack on U.S.” HERE)

George Floyd Trial to Be Livestreamed

A Minneapolis judge upheld his decision to livestream the contentious March 2021 trial of the four officers arrested in connection to the death of George Floyd.

Judge Peter Cahill originally ordered the trial to be televised on Nov. 4 due to nationwide interest in the outcome of the case and limited courtroom capacity during the coronavirus pandemic, according to the Minneapolis-based Star Tribune.

Cahill refused to back down from his decision in a Friday order, despite pushback from state prosecutors and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, who together insisted public streaming would cause trial violations and intimidate witnesses, a separate Tribune report detailed.

“Without question, deprivation of the constitutional rights that are the hallmarks of a public criminal trial would be a ‘manifest injustice,’” Cahill wrote in early November, according to the Tribune. “The only real issue then, is whether there is a reasonable alternative to televising the trial that would vindicate the defendants’ Sixth Amendment rights and the First Amendment rights of the public and the press.
