Amid Rioting, Coronavirus Cases Spike Among Younger People

Surprise, surprise: Burned-out buildings and increased crime aren’t the only things left in Minneapolis in the wake of the massive rioting over the past few weeks. Now it appears that COVID-19 cases among those ages 20-29 unnaturally spiked right around mid-June, exactly when you would expect them to, given the mass gatherings of protesters and rioters that commenced about one to two weeks before. Where do peaceful, law-abiding Americans go to get their apology after the media promoted lockdown and then went to the other extreme of promoting mass gatherings and super-spreading events to fuel racial strife?

Even though roughly 80 percent of COVID-19 deaths in Minnesota occurred in senior care facilities, those in their 20s now account for more confirmed positive cases than any other age group, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

But the more relevant point is the trend line. There appears to have been a massive spike in cases among those in their 20s right around mid-June. Those in their 20s consistently accounted for roughly 20 percent of all cases going back to the archived reports from May. Yet they now account for 59 percent of the new cases since June 25.

What is shocking and appalling is that the media and politicians are blaming states for gradually and cautiously reopening after the harsh and arbitrary lockdowns as the culprit behind the spike in more cases. MPR News is pinning the blame for the Minnesota spike on the bars. Yet even the most open states never sanctioned mass gatherings. Numerous studies have shown that super-spreader events are responsible for the lion’s share – perhaps 80 percent – of transmission in a country. That’s why Japan, which had a great outcome without a shutdown, was always careful to avoid mass gatherings.

Yet, somehow, we are to believe it’s the reopening of small businesses that is responsible for the spread, not roving and mobile mass gatherings all over the country.

Not only are uncontrolled mass gatherings more likely to spread the illness than small businesses, but the timing makes it clear they are the culprit for the spread in many places. Infection to hospitalization time seems to be about 11-14 days. The gradual reopening began in late April and early May in the southern states, while the rioting began in early June. While very few young people will get seriously ill, those who are older who catch it from them can get sicker. The increase in hospitalizations happened right around when we would expect it, in mid-June.

Obviously, the places we would expect to see the greatest effect are in the states where there was little herd immunity because the virus hadn’t spread much to begin with, which is the case in most southern states. New York City had large riots and protests, but it appears that the virus has already hit a brick wall after infecting and killing so many in NYC in March and April. The population density of the northeast made the virus spread very quickly long before the protests. But in other parts of the country, all bets are off.

Our government is now using its failure to protect us internally from domestic insurrection and externally from cross-border migration as a pretext to reinstitute lockdown. As I noted on Friday, much of the spike in serious cases at the border is the result of cross-border travel and migration that our government failed to shut down. Now we know that much of the spread of milder cases in the interior came from the mass rioting and protesting. The only things that should be shut down are downright encouraged, while we are forced to wear face diapers and our children can’t go to camp after being out of school for months.

We’ve learned something interesting over the past few weeks. People who rob, loot, maim, and burn don’t care about spreading a virus either. Who would have known? The sad thing is that the silent majority of law-abiding Americans are the ones getting blamed for the lawlessness of the mob and the mendacity of the governing elite. CNN Pressures Brands to Join Facebook Ad Boycott

CNN is naming and shaming corporate brands that have yet to join the ad boycott against Facebook, spurred by an agitated political left that wants the platform to do more to crack down on constitutionally protected speech — especially that of President Donald Trump.

The anti-Trump broadcaster published an article on its website earlier today titled “These are the big brands that haven’t pulled ads from Facebook yet.”

CNN also reveals in its article that it reached out to all of the brands for comment, a commonly used tactic in the media aimed at pressuring companies to take action with the veiled threat of negative coverage.

The article admits that the boycott will likely not make much of a difference to Facebook’s bottom line, and also admits that most brands did not return CNN’s request for comment:

The data suggest the ongoing boycott may have a limited impact on Facebook’s bottom line, at least as it stands right now. Even if all 100 of Facebook’s biggest advertisers joined in, they would account for just 6% of the company’s annual ad revenue.

1990: Joe Biden Proposed Hypothetical of ‘Homosexuals Engaging in a Sexual Act’ on American Flag

During a debate in 1990 about a constitutional amendment that would ban burning the American flag, then-Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) proposed a bizarre hypothetical to illustrate why he thought it was a slippery slope.

“Parts of the American public occasionally responding to the emotions of the moment; occasionally, occasionally, they pass laws that don’t make sense in the wide scope of things,” Biden said on the Senate floor on June 25, 1990. He went on:

We went through a whole exercise here with Mapplethorpe’s paintings and the National Endowment for the Arts, and they related to paintings – photographs that had to do with homosexual activity. I ask you, assume that there were a painting or a photograph taken of homosexuals engaging in a sexual act on a flag.

Biden argued a constitutional amendment would be the gateway to regulating expression. He said:

Would that be desecrating the flag under this amendment? Let me ask you, does anyone doubt that there might not be at least a few members of this body that would introduce an amendment to the law? We can amend this 99 times, once we pass the constitutional amendment, we can pass any law we want.

White Liberals Can Make $12K a Day on ‘White Privilege’

Telling white people they’re racist is turning out to be a lucrative business.

Newly uncovered documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation discovered that left-wing academic and architect of critical race theory Robin DiAngelo raked in more cash from a single speech than the median black household earns in three months.

DiAngelo, who authored “White Fragility” and is credited with creating the “white privilege checklist,” charged the University of Kentucky $12,000 for a two-hour on-campus lecture titled “Racial Justice Keynote and breakout session.” The $12,000 bill did not include costs for travel and lodging, according to the Caller.

DiAngelo’s contract with the university also prohibited phone calls with event organizers and mandated all communications be sent through email to either her or an assistant. “If phone calls are deemed necessary, they will be charged at a rate of $320 per hour,” the contract stated, according to a review by the Caller. This State Smashes Daily Coronavirus Record With Over 8,000 Confirmed Cases; Pence Disputes That Virus Surge Was Caused by States Reopening Too Quickly

By Fox News. California recorded its highest daily coronavirus count for the third time in just over a week on Monday with 8,000 infections while also surpassing 6,000 deaths, officials said.

The uptick comes as the virus continues to make a resurgence after months of unprecedented orders to combat its spread. Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday that hospitalizations have increased 43 percent over a two-week period, as well as a 37 percent increase of patients admitted to intensive care units during the same time period. . .

Los Angeles County — the epicenter of the virus in the state — ordered all beaches closed for the July 4th weekend after an “alarming” spike in new COVID-19 cases. Texas officials ordered bars closed for a second time and Arizona has temporarily closed, bars, gyms, water parks, movie theaters and nightclubs.

Calfornia is monitoring 19 counties amid a spike in cases and hospitalizations in those locations. An additional four could be included Wednesday, Newsom said. Statewide, nearly 223,000 people have tested positive for COVID-19. . .

“We are seeing an increase in transmission. We’re seeing more people get sick and go into the hospital,” said Dr. Christina Ghaly, the county’s director of health services. “This is very much a change in the trajectory of the epidemic over the past several days. It’s a change for the worse and a cause for concern.” (Read more from “This State Smashes Daily Coronavirus Record With Over 8,000 Confirmed Cases” HERE)

Pence Disputes That Virus Surge Was Caused by States Reopening Too Quickly

By Axios. Vice President Mike Pence, head of the White House coronavirus task force, pushed back on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday against claims that the new surge of coronavirus cases is a result of states reopening too quickly. . .

“I know there’s a temptation to associate the new cases in the Sunbelt with reopening, but it’s important to remember that states like Florida and like Texas actually began to open up in early May. For the better part of six weeks, John, we did not see any significant movement,” Pence said.

“In my conversations with governors in Florida and in Texas — and in Arizona in particular — we’re monitoring very closely their hospitalization rate, and we continue to be very confident that they have the supplies and the support and the capacity to give people the … level of care that any of us would want a family member to have.” (Read more from “Pence Disputes That Virus Surge Was Caused by States Reopening Too Quickly” HERE)

Career Criminal Allegedly Kills 7-Year-Old Hours After Release From Jail (VIDEO)

Evidently, black lives don’t matter, at least not the ones that can’t be used as political footballs to blame police, other races, or law and order. The murder of a 7-year-old allegedly by a career criminal released from jail hours earlier for a serious crime is the true epidemic that requires political intervention. Yet you won’t see rioting, feet-washing, bowing, removal of monuments, and renaming of landmarks on behalf of this forgotten child.

On June 23, Shaquille Marshon Francis was charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed 7-year-old Aaliyah Norris in a random drive-by shooting in North Carolina. Norris was sitting in the back of her family’s car when her life was ended suddenly by one of the growing number of drive-by shootings taking place throughout the country. Norris died in the hospital last Thursday from the injury to her head.

It’s sickening that Francis had been arrested in Rutherford County, North Carolina, that very day for pointing a gun at someone. He was released without any bond! Court records show that Francis already violated his probation and failed to show up at court for charges from previous cases.

How can someone like that who is arrested for pointing a gun at someone be released so easily?

This is the national discussion we should be having on crime and race. How many innocent black children are killed every weekend in places like Chicago by career criminals who have gun felonies and probation violations but are let out of prison?

Why is it that the Left has no desire to discuss gun violence any more? Why is leftist enthusiasm for gun control limited to those without criminal records, yet those charged with felony possession or with assaulting someone with a weapon can be let out of jail?

In another bloody weekend in Chicago, a 20-month-old boy was shot and killed in a drive-by murder. A mother was driving home from the laundromat with her toddler in the car seat when a shooter pulled up alongside her and fired into the car. The mother was also injured.

Chicago’s CBS affiliate has a list of very young children who have been caught in the crossfire of the breakdown of order in Chicago. In a different Chicago neighborhood, a 10-year-old girl was killed by a stray bullet as she sat in her own home! Another Chicago criminal shot and killed two teens. He had a prior firearms conviction but got probation instead of jail time.

In New York, another violent criminal with three armed robbery charges was on parole when he was arrested last week for brutally raping and beating a Bronx woman nearly to death. Meanwhile, New York City has experienced more shootings during the first three weeks of June than at any point since 1996. Over the weekend, there were 17 shootings in just 24 hours with 24 victims. According to New York City police, 1,000 criminals indicted on gun crimes are walking free, while another 800 defendants have yet to be indicted. “You have a criminal justice system that is imploding,” according to NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea. Other crimes are surging as well. Robberies in Minneapolis have spiked 30%.

Perhaps there really is white privilege. It’s the privilege of wealthy white liberals who live in gated communities and can virtue-signal about the need to weaken the police and abolish incarceration. After all, they are not the ones who suffer from the fallout. They don’t exactly travel to laundromats in dangerous neighborhoods.

Why are Republicans not championing an agenda to go after gangs, repeat offenders, gun felons, and parole violators, which account for almost all of these murders – almost all of them of African-American victims? Biden Woos Asian American Voters After Trump ‘Kung Flu’ Quips

As President Trump stoked outrage by calling COVID-19 the “kung flu,” presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden was quietly courting Asian American voters.

And Biden’s efforts could pad his electoral edge in crucial, culturally diverse battleground states, such as Nevada, Texas, and Georgia.

“Asian Americans are being targeted with violence and subjected to xenophobic rhetoric from the mouth of the president himself,” Biden told Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote’s presidential forum last weekend. . .

Asian Americans represent the fast-growing demographic of eligible voters compared to other major races and ethnicities, the Pew Research Center found last month. The group’s comprised of about 11 million eligible voters, or 5% of the country’s eligible population, up 139% over the past two decades. And the advantage for Biden is that they lean Democratic.

In 2018, Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote estimated that more than 40% of Asian Americans identify as Democrats, as opposed to almost 30% who consider themselves Republicans and roughly the same percentage who think of themselves as independents. To put that in context, of the 5 million Asian Americans who voted in 2016, 4% of the total electorate, three-quarters supported Hillary Clinton to the quarter who cast a ballot for Trump. Jeff Bezos’ Streaming Service Twitch Bans Trump

Streaming giant Twitch announced Monday that President Trump’s account on the platform would be temporarily banned because of his remarks at the Tulsa rally.

“Hateful conduct is not allowed on Twitch,” Twitch stated. “In line with our policies, President Trump’s channel has been issued a temporary suspension from Twitch for comments made on stream, and the offending content has been removed.” . . .

Twitch is the world’s largest video game streaming platform, boasting over 15 million unique monthly users. Jeff Bezos’ Amazon bought out the streamer in 2014 for over a billion dollars. Since October of 2019, the Trump campaign has used the platform to stream rallies and campaign videos. Other politicians, including Bernie Sanders, remain on the platform. Socialist Seattle City Council Member Blames Capitalism for Latest CHOP Shooting

A socialist member of the Seattle City Council blamed capitalism for the latest shooting in Seattle’s Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) in a series of tweets Monday.

Council Member Kshama Sawant is a member of Socialist Alternative, a national political party that advocates for policies such as a $15 minimum wage.

A 16-year-old died and a 14-year-old is still being treated following a drive-by shooting that took place early Monday morning in CHOP, also known as the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ), according to Seattle police.

“While we await details of this tragic killing, it highlights capitalism’s brutality & endemic violence,” Sawant tweeted Monday. “Our movement rejects insinuations & falsehoods perpetuated by corporate & conservative media that this violence is outcome of CHOP or of our movement.”

Sawant added: “Capitalism *is* a police state. While we’ll have to fight to win reforms, we have to dismantle capitalism to win a violence-free society.” (Read more from “Socialist Seattle City Council Member Blames Capitalism for Latest CHOP Shooting” HERE)

Socialist Rep. Says Plan to Cut $1B From NYPD Does Not Go Far Enough

Far-left New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) slammed New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s (D) proposal to cut nearly $1 billion from the New York City Police Department on Tuesday, calling the plan a “disingenuous illusion” and insisting that “defunding the police means defunding the police.”

. . .CBS News reported that de Blasio announced a plan on Monday for cutting $1 billion from the NYPD, amid a citywide budget crunch and after weeks of progressive activists calling for “defunding police” across the nation following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

The next day, the Gotham Gazette reported that the mayor and city council reached an agreement on the cuts to the department, “though nearly half will be through shifting school safety from the police to the Department of Education” by “shifting school safety and school crossing guards out of the NYPD’s purview.”

In response, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez issued a statement, saying:

Defunding police means defunding police. It does not mean tricks or funny math. It does not mean moving school police officers from the NYPD budget to the Department of Education’s budget so that the exact same police remain in schools. It does not mean counting overtime cuts as cuts, even as NYPD ignores every attempt by City Council to curb overtime spending and overspends on overtime anyways. It does not mean hiring more police officers while cutting more than $800M from NYC schools. If these reports are accurate, then these proposed ‘cuts’ to NYPD’s budget are a disingenuous illusion. This is not a victory. The fight to defund policing continues.
