Democrat Who Endorsed Trump Resigns After Harassment

Democratic Georgia state Rep. Vernon Jones announced that he is stepping down from office, citing attacks and harassment from his party following his endorsement of President Donald Trump for re-election.

Jones shocked the Georgia political establishment when he became the first state-elected Democrat to endorse Trump earlier in April. While the move drew quick recognition and applause from the White House, Democratic leaders closer to home immediately disavowed him, and pledged to help unseat him from office.

The blowback from his party is too much, and he is stepping down from his post as the representative for Georgia’s 91st House District, Jones said.

“I’m sick and tired of me and my family being attacked and harassed by the Democrat Party for putting my country before my party,” Jones said in a statement released Wednesday, and first obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Police Are Investigating Joe Biden Sex Assault Claim

The Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia is actively investigating the complaint against Joe Biden brought by Tara Reade, the woman who accused Biden of sexually assaulting her in 1993, despite her allegation being impossible to prosecute since it is past the statute of limitations.

“This is an active, ongoing investigation, and there are no further details to provide at this time,” a Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson told the Washington Examiner Tuesday regarding Reade’s case. “Cases that are handled by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit go through a multi-review prior to being assigned a disposition. This case is progressing through the review process.”

The investigation remaining open, despite the alleged incident occurring past the statute of limitations, struck multiple experts as highly unusual. . .

On April 9, Reade filed an incident report with the D.C. police that said she “disclosed that she was the victim of a sexual assault which was committed by Subject-2 in 1993.” Reade has confirmed that Subject-2 is Joe Biden, 77, who was a Delaware senator from 1973-2009 before becoming President Barack Obama’s vice president.

Reade, 56, said that she filed an incident report for “safety reasons,” for the purpose of establishing a paper trail in case “something happened to me” and to show that she is serious about her allegation since it is illegal to make a false police report. Since coming forward with her allegations against Biden, she regularly receives threatening and vulgar messages, she told the Washington Examiner. Facebook Bans Anti-Quarantine Event Posts; Fauci Says Protesters Could Prolong Shutdown

By New York Post. . .The social-media company has removed events set up by protestors in states such as Nebraska, California and New Jersey, where thousands of protestors — masked and unmasked alike — have gathered in the hopes of opening up the country in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Unless government prohibits the event during this time, we allow it to be organized on Facebook,” a company spokesperson tells The Post. “For this same reason, events that defy government’s guidance on social distancing aren’t allowed on Facebook.”

Events were removed in states where protests violate stay-at-home orders. Protests are raging across the country over states’ shelter-in-place warnings, with many claiming there are enough tests available to open up businesses again. Health officials warn that we’re not quite there yet, however.

Over the weekend, rallies took place in cities such as Denver, Colorado, where protestors came head-to-head with health-care workers in a battle over social distancing. Across California, organizers carried signs that read “Open Cali Now” and “Saltwater Is Safe,” referring to beach closures in the state. ‘It’s Going to Backfire’: Fauci Says Anti-Quarantine Protesters Could Prolong Shutdown

By MSN. Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the leading experts in the White House’s response to the coronavirus, warned demonstrations happening across the country protesting the quarantine orders will prolong the shutdown period.

Residents in at least 20 states have taken to the streets to protest their governor’s stay-at-home orders, arguing that the country should start to reopen and recover from the virus. More than 21 million people have lost their jobs in the last four weeks.

Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was asked about the dangers of these protests during an appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America on Monday.

Coronavirus Has Mutated Into at Least 30 Different Strains New Study Finds; F.D.A. Authorizes First In-Home Test

By The Jerusalem Post. A new study in China has found that the novel coronavirus has mutated into at least 30 different variations.

The results showed that medical officials have vastly underestimated the overall ability of the virus to mutate, in findings that different strains have affected different parts of the world, leading to potential difficulties in finding an overall cure.

The study was carried out by Professor Li Lanjuan and colleagues from Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China and published in a non-peer reviewed paper released on website medRxiv.org on Sunday.

Li’s team analyzed the strains from 11 randomly chosen coronavirus patients from Hangzhou, where there have been 1,264 reported cases, and then tested how efficiently they could infect and kill cells.

F.D.A. Authorizes First In-Home Test for Coronavirus

By The New York Times. The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday said it had granted emergency clearance to the first in-home test for the coronavirus, a nasal swab kit that will be sold by LabCorp.

The agency said that LabCorp had submitted data showing the home test is as safe and accurate as a sample collection at a doctor’s office, hospital or other testing site.

50 Freed Coronavirus Inmates Carried out Crime Spree

The coronavirus jailbreak that freed criminals under the guise of protecting them from the pandemic has endangered everyone’s lives.

Dozens of inmates freed from city jails over fears they were vulnerable to the coronavirus have wasted no time plaguing the city with new crimes, The Post has learned.

At least 50 of the 1,500 inmates cut loose amid fears of the spread of COVID-19 behind bars in recent weeks have already landed back in jail — and in some cases were set free yet again, according to police sources and records.

The re-offenders — just over 3 percent of those released — include a Rikers Island inmate initially jailed for allegedly setting his girlfriend’s door on fire and choking her mother, who was released early only to return to the Bronx apartment and allegedly threaten to kill the whole family.

State Sues China for ‘Sinister Campaign of Deception’ That Helped Spread Coronavirus

On Tuesday, Attorney General Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) filed a lawsuit in federal court aiming to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for a “sinister campaign of malfeasance and deception” that helped spread the coronavirus across the globe and brought concrete harm to the people of Missouri.

“The Chinese government lied to the world about the danger and contagious nature of COVID-19, silenced whistleblowers, and did little to stop the spread of the disease. They must be held accountable for their actions,” Schmitt said in a statement announcing the lawsuit.

“COVID-19 has done irreparable damage to countries across the globe, causing sickness, death, economic disruption, and human suffering. In Missouri, the impact of the virus is very real – thousands have been infected and many have died, families have been separated from dying loved ones, small businesses are shuttering their doors, and those living paycheck to paycheck are struggling to put food on their table,” he added.

As of Tuesday morning, Missouri has 5,963 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 215 deaths from it. According to one estimate cited by Fox News, the economic shutdown imposed by the state in order to reduce the spread of the coronavirus has cost Missouri about $44 billion.

Missouri is the first state to file legal claims against China, although at least seven federal class-action suits have been filed by private groups. How Adam Schiff Buried Testimony Helpful to Trump

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who helped lead House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment effort, reportedly withheld evidence beneficial to President Trump from the White House and the American public in the Russia-collusion investigation.

Investigative reporter John Solomon at Just the News reported Schiff declared absolute ownership of the transcripts of witness testimony.

Schiff ordered in a March 26, 2019, letter to then-Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats: “Under no circumstances shall ODNI, or any other element of the Intelligence Community (IC), share any HPSCI (House Permanent Select Committee) transcripts with the White House, President Trump or any persons associated with the White House or the President.” . . .

However, when the Democrats won the House majority, Schiff took his unilateral action, writing to Coats.

In the letter, he ordered “that the witness transcripts — some of which contained exculpatory evidence for President Trump’s team — not be shared with Trump or White House lawyers even if the declassification process required such sharing,” Solomon reported. Hilarious Poll: 60% of Democratic Voters Blame Trump for Coronavirus

The coronavirus pandemic has sparked a partisan blame game. Most Democratic voters — 60% — now blame President Trump rather than China, for the health emergency now underway nationwide, according to a Rasmussen Reports survey released Monday.

Among all voters, 42% also pointed the finger at the president.

Not so Republicans. The poll found that 71% disagreed with the idea, along with 46% of independents.

The pollster based the question on recent public commentary from Sen. Chris Murphy. The Connecticut Democrat suggested that China and the World Health Organization were not responsible for the coronavirus crisis, clearly casting blame on Mr. Trump, instead.

Barr Warns States Not to Go ‘Too Far’ in Stay-At-Home Orders, Threatens Legal Action

Attorney General Bill Barr, in a new interview on Tuesday, characterized some state ‘stay-at-home’ restrictions amid the pandemic as “disturbingly close to house arrest” and said the Justice Department will consider legal action if governors start to take restrictions on movement and civil liberties ‘too far.’

“These are unprecedented burdens on civil liberties right now. You know, the idea that you have to stay in your house is disturbingly close to house arrest,” Barr told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. “I’m not saying it wasn’t justified. I’m not saying in some places it might still be justified.”

In the interview, Barr also lavished praise on President Donald Trump’s handling of the crisis and cautioned that the department would be watching governors who don’t follow the latest federal guidance on phased reopenings for certain parts of the economy.

“I think the president’s guidance has been, as I say, superb and very common sensical, and I think a lot of the governors are following that,” Barr said. “And you know, to the extent that governors don’t and impinge on either civil rights or on the national commerce, our common market that we have here, then we’ll have to address that.” . . .

Last week, the Justice Department filed a statement of interest in support of a Mississippi church whose members were fined after attending a drive-thru church service, a penalty the department argued was imposed unfairly on the church versus other commercial activities that were occurring in the community. ‘I Gave up on Drudge’: Trump Slams Conservative News Mogul

President Donald Trump tweeted Saturday he has “given up on” conservative news giant Matt Drudge.

Drudge runs the most popular online news aggregator — the Drudge Report. Recently, the site has turned over a number of articles criticizing the president’s response to the coronavirus pandemic noting that the U.S. has not peaked in its number of Covid-19 related deaths. . .

The conservative newsman rose to prominence during the Monica Lewinisky–Bill Clinton scandal and his site backed Trump during the 2016 election.
