Police Expert: Critical Element to Fight Mass Shootings

By WND. As the media focused on the thousands of students walking out of school Wednesday to protest gun violence and demand gun-control legislation, a longtime officer and police-academy director says a critical element of stopping or limiting mass shootings is finding the right people to become police officers and training them well.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School did have armed security when a former student killed 17 people on Feb. 14, but resource officer Scot Peterson did not enter the school when he determined shots were being fired inside.

Many critics branded Peterson a coward for his inaction, but 21-year Illinois police officer Randy Petersen (no relation) says it’s more complicated than that.

“Maybe it’s not a cowardly person but someone who is unsure of themselves, unskilled, haven’t been trained up properly. Anytime you have something like that, we can have this situation where we shoot people that we don’t want shot or we don’t shoot people that need to be shot,” said Petersen, who also directed one of the largest police academies in Texas and is a senior researcher at Right on Crime.

“To go to the point where we have a police officer that is either incompetent in their physical skills, their defensive tactics skills, their shooting, they’re not going to have confidence and a lack of confidence can get you to a point where an officer either fails to act or overreacts,” said Petersen. Mental Illness and Mass Shootings

By Townhall. . . . [Nikolas] Cruz had a history of disciplinary events at school — including two dozen such incidents at his middle school. Both his family and neighbors made multiple calls to the police to report violent or threatening behavior — the police were called to Cruz’ home 39 times in seven years. He was disciplined, suspended and eventually expelled from high school for aggressive behavior and possession of weapons and ammunition. State and federal law enforcement were notified of disturbing threats and photos (with weapons) that Cruz posted on social media. None of that stopped Nikolas Cruz from purchasing guns.

Consider, as well, the histories of other mass shooters:

Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people and injured 17 others at Virginia Tech University on April 16, 2007. Cho had been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, severe anxiety disorder and selective mutism. In high school, he expressed a fascination with the Columbine High School shooters. Classmates and teachers at Virginia Tech had observed and expressed concerns about Cho’s bizarre and threatening behavior, as well as violent and obscene writings. Despite multiple attempts at intervention and a determination that Cho was “mentally ill and in need of hospitalization,” a judge in Virginia ordered him to undergo treatment on an outpatient basis only (which Cho never did). Because there was no involuntary commitment, Cho was able to pass background checks (including 30-day waiting periods) and purchase the handguns he used as murder weapons.

Jared Loughner also had a history of bizarre and threatening behavior, including paranoia, psychotic ramblings in class, drug use and run-ins with police. He was eventually kicked out of the community college he attended. On Jan. 8, 2011, Loughner showed up at a Safeway parking lot in Tucson, Arizona, where congressional representative Gabby Giffords was meeting with constituents. Loughner began shooting, killing six and injuring 14, including Giffords (who was shot in the head, but survived). Loughner had passed a background check before he purchased the handgun he used.

James Holmes had a history of hallucinations, depression, suicide attempts and bizarre behavior, and was “obsessed with killing” according to one therapist. He was under the care of multiple psychiatrists, at least one of whom thought that he was potentially homicidal and dangerous. Holmes was nevertheless able to pass all necessary background checks and purchase multiple weapons legally. On July 20, 2012, he walked into a theatre in Aurora, Colorado, via an exit door he had propped open, and opened fire, killing 12 and wounding 70.

Adam Lanza had diagnoses of Asperger’s syndrome, obsessive-compulsive disorder and extreme anxiety. He suffered from anorexia and exhibited symptoms of schizophrenia. Lanza, too, was obsessed with violence — he prepared a massive spreadsheet with information about 500 mass murders, including the Columbine shootings. In the months before he massacred his mother while she slept, and then 20 children and six teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary school on Dec. 14, 2012, Lanza had retreated to his bedroom, living in nearly complete darkness with windows blackened by trash bags, refusing to interact even with his mother except by email. Lanza used weapons his mother had legally obtained. (Read more from “Mental Illness and Mass Shootings” HERE)

FINALLY: Even Democrats Are Now Sick and Tired of Hillary Clinton’s Loser Schtick

By The Daily Wire. Nearly 18 months after Hillary Clinton got crushed in the presidential election, she’s still on a worldwide tour to blame everything and everyone but herself.

We’ve lost count of all her foils, but here are some of the things and people Hillary blames: Former FBI director James Comey, Russia, computer bots, Wikileaks, Bernie Sanders, Facebook, Joe Biden, fake news, Twitter, voter ID laws, the vast right-wing conspiracy, sexism, Barack Obama, ageism, Anthony Weiner, white women, xenophobia, black people, the electoral college, the DNC, misogyny, women cowed by their husbands.

At a conference in Mumbai, India, she doubled down on that last claim. “We do not do well with white men and we don’t do well with married, white women,” she said. “And part of that is an identification with the Republican Party, and a sort of ongoing pressure to vote the way that your husband, your boss, your son, whoever, believes you should.”

Clinton also claimed that states that voted for her are more economically advanced than the states that backed President Trump — you know, where that “basket of deplorables” live.

But now, “Even the staunchest Clinton allies as well as longtime advisers say the comments were cringeworthy and ultimately detrimental to Democrats,” The Hill reported on Wednesday. (Read more from “FINALLY: Even Democrats Are Now Sick and Tired of Hillary Clinton’s Loser Schtick” HERE)

Dems Are Angry Over Hillary Clinton’s Latest Comments

By The Hill. Democrats are angry that Hillary Clinton continues to discuss what went wrong during the 2016 presidential election against President Trump.

Even some of Clinton’s own former aides and surrogates say the former Democratic presidential nominee should back away from the discussion about her failed campaign because it’s harmful to the party . . .

In interviews with The Hill on Tuesday, even the staunchest Clinton allies as well as longtime advisers say the comments were cringeworthy and ultimately detrimental to Democrats.

“She put herself in a position where [Democrats] from states that Trump won will have to distance themselves from her even more,” said one former senior Clinton aide. “That’s a lot of states.”

Another Clinton surrogate questioned the decisionmaking behind Clinton’s remarks. For months, some Democrats have been arguing that Clinton’s sentiments have been counterproductive to the party’s rebuilding efforts. And some have told her she should emulate former President Obama’s model to only make statements when it’s essential. (Read more from “Dems Are Angry Over Hillary Clinton’s Latest Comments” HERE)

PA Election Recount Likely — Reports of Bizarre Voting Machine Behavior

The Pennsylvania special election for congressional district 18 may be heading to a recount, with just hundreds of votes separating the Republican and Democrat candidates and irregularities alleged in Democrat heavy Allegheny County.

As of Wednesday, 627 votes (0.2 percent) separate Republican Rick Saccone and Democrat Conor Lamb, the New York Times reported.

With hundreds of absentee ballots and an undetermined number of military and provisional ballots yet to be counted, the race is still too close to call.

Lamb claimed victory early Wednesday morning, while Saccone stated, “We are still fighting the fight. It is not over.”

The Republican state representative noted many of his previous wins were by narrow margins, so he is prepared to go the distance until all the ballots are counted.

Fox News reported that Republican attorneys are planning to go to court on Wednesday to demand an impounding of all the ballots and voting machines used in the race, in preparation for a potential recount.

The lawyers plan to make multiple complaints that could form the basis of their recount.

One involves allegations that touch screen machines used in heavily Democrat Allegheny County, bordering Pittsburgh, were not calibrated correctly, registering votes for Lamb that were meant for Saccone. Lamb carried the county, but not the other three counties found in the district, which trend moderate to conservative.

The GOP also claims that their representatives were blocked from observing the absentee ballot count in Allegheny County.

Pennsylvania law makes provision for a recount, but it requires three voters in each precinct who can attest to error or fraud in the election.

Trump won the congressional district by 20 points in 2016; however, the blue collar coalition that supported the outsider candidate was split by Lamb.

Labor unions, including the United Steelworkers and the United Mine Workers, campaigned heavily for the Democrat and against Saccone who has expressed support for right to work laws, according to CNN.

“The labor unions were very energized and were doing their best to organize the rank and file,” Pennsylvania-based Republican strategist Charlie Gerow told The Western Journal.

He added, “How much of the rank and file fell in behind labor unions remains to be seen, but certainly organized labor played an important role in that special election because they were providing the energy and the organizational base for Conor Lamb.”

Lamb aligned himself with Trump on several issues including the Second Amendment, trade, and opposition to the Washington Democrat establishment.

“If the Conor Lamb lead holds up, it’s proof that all politics is local, because here was a Democratic candidate that tailored himself to that district, making himself sound much more like Donald Trump than Nancy Pelosi,” said Gerow. “And in fact saying, he won’t vote for Nancy Pelosi when he gets to Washington.”

Republican National Committee spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany shares this assessment of Lamb’s candidacy.

“He’s pro-gun. He says he’s personally pro-life. He says he’s pro-coal, he’s pro-tariff. He says he’s anti-Nancy Pelosi,” she told ABC News ahead of the election results Tuesday.

“Imagine that, a Democratic candidate who’s against Nancy Pelosi, the minority leader,” she said. “He has made himself into essentially a Republican. So you have a Republican in name and a Republican in truth running against one another.” (For more from the author of “PA Election Recount Likely — Reports of Bizarre Voting Machine Behavior” please click HERE)

Teen Stabs 3 People for Islam – FBI Had Been Warned Prior

A teenage Muslim spending the night with friends stabbed three people, killing one, “because of his Muslim faith,” according to police in Florida.

The suspect read the Quran “to give him courage to carry out his intentions,” according to an affidavit.

Police reports indicate the FBI had the teen under surveillance for a year and was preparing affavadits to bring charges against him for threats and attempts to contact ISIS.

The details of the crime come from Local10.com Managing Editor Peter Burke, who reported 17-year-old Corey Johnson now faces charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder for the early Monday stabbings at the BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens.

Police said officers arrived at the home after a 911 call and found Elaine Simon and her son, Dane Bancroft, 13, suffering from stab wounds. They were treated for their injuries. (Read more from “Teen Stabs 3 People for Islam – FBI Had Been Warned Prior” HERE)

Navy Moves to Approve Atheist Chaplain Who Attacked Billy Graham After Passing

Within a week of re-assigning (and possibly firing) one chaplain for expressing traditionalist Christian beliefs, the Navy is seriously considering the approval of an avowed “non-theistic humanist” for a spot in its Chaplain Corps.

Conservative U.S. House and Senate members are formally urging the Navy not to approve the atheist for the post, noting the Navy can provide all sorts of other programs for non-believers without altering the mission of the long-established Chaplain Corps.

The secular-humanist applicant is Dr. Jason Heap – described by ConservativeHQ.com as a “militant atheist” – the executive director of the United Coalition of Reason who had sued the Navy in 2014 when it rejected his earlier application to become a Navy chaplain. . .

He and his supporters, including prominent atheist groups, say that non-theistic service members may need the confidentiality in seeking counseling that only a chaplaincy can provide.

And this time, the Navy Chaplain Appointment and Retention Eligibility Advisory group actually has recommended that Heap be approved. (Read more from “Navy Moves to Approve Atheist Chaplain Who Attacked Billy Graham After Passing” HERE)

Russia Could Use Chemical Weapons in New York

It could happen in New York City: Russia could use one of the deadliest chemical weapons ever made to murder people in the city streets if Moscow is not punished for its alleged attacks on British soil.

That’s the warning issued Wednesday by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley.

“If we don’t take immediate concrete measures to address this now, Salisbury will not be the last place we see chemical weapons used,” Haley told the United Nations Security Council. “They could be used here in New York, or in cities of any country that sits on this Council. This is a defining moment.”

Haley’s comments were made during an emergency council hearing that was requested by British officials who say Russia used a “military-grade nerve agent” when it attempted to murder Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, on British soil.

The chemical weapon, known as Novichok, is extremely lethal and extraordinarily rare to find outside of Russia. Novichok, or “newcomer” in Russian, is a chemical developed by the Soviet Union in secret during the Cold War. It was created for the purpose of countering U.S. chemical weapons. Trump Fires Rex Tillerson on Twitter

By NY Times. President Trump on Tuesday ousted his secretary of state, Rex W. Tillerson, extending a shake-up of his administration, 14 months into his tumultuous presidency, and potentially transforming the nation’s economic and foreign policy.

Mr. Trump announced he would replace Mr. Tillerson with Mike Pompeo, the C.I.A. director and former Tea Party congressman, who forged a close relationship with the president and is viewed as being more in sync with Mr. Trump’s America First credo.

Mr. Tillerson was at the State Department on Tuesday and spoke to reporters, saying that he would surrender his authority at midnight and resign officially at the end of the month.

Mr. Tillerson learned he had been fired on Tuesday morning when a top aide showed him a tweet from Mr. Trump announcing the change, according to a senior State Department official. But he had gotten an oblique warning of what was coming the previous Friday from the White House chief of staff, John F. Kelly, who called to tell him to cut short a trip to Africa and advised him “you may get a tweet.” (Read more from “Trump Fires Rex Tillerson on Twitter” HERE)

Rex Tillerson: Secretary of State Fired by Trump in Russia Warning

By BBC. Sacked US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has warned of Russia’s “troubling behaviour and actions” in a parting statement after being fired by President Donald Trump.

He pointedly failed to thank Mr Trump or praise his policies.

The former ExxonMobil chief had a series of public rifts with the White House after being appointed last year. . .

Speaking to reporters at the Department of State, Mr Tillerson said good work had been done to have better relations with China, and rein in North Korea’s nuclear weapons programme.

But he added: “Much work remains to respond to the troubling behaviour and actions on the part of the Russian government.” (Read more from “Rex Tillerson: Secretary of State Fired by Trump in Russia Warning” HERE)

Activists Demand Justice After Border Agents Arrest Illegal… Then They Learn What She Did for a Living

An arrest by the U.S. Border Patrol has stirred up outrage in the activist community as a purported example of how President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement policies are unjustly tearing immigrant families apart.

Viral videos posted to Facebook and YouTube on Thursday show Border Patrol agents — some in uniform and some in plain clothes — seizing Perla Morales-Luna as she was walking with her daughters in National City, California, last week.

She is then hustled into the back of a waiting Border Patrol SUV while bystanders plead with agents to release her.

Activists and media organizations immediately seized on the videos as more evidence of heavy-handed immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, which has been accused of breaking up families by detaining illegal immigrant parents.

Immigrant rights groups say the episode shows how immigration agents have a free hand to arrest mothers and fathers who are not threats to public safety.

“It’s really a grotesque way of detaining and enforcing immigration law,” Benjamin Prado, coordinator for the American Friends Service Committee’s San Diego U.S.-Mexico Border Program, told the Los Angles Times.

“It is very quickly accelerating to a very tyrannical form of detention and arrest, snatching people up off the street.”

Morales-Luna is not just an otherwise law-abiding illegal immigrant.

She is also a member of a Southern California-based human smuggling ring, according to Customs and Border Protection.

“Perla Morales-Luna was identified as an organizer for a transnational criminal smuggling organization operating in East County, San Diego,” the agency’s San Diego field division said in a statement.

“She was arrested as a result of a targeted operation on March 3, 2018, in National City for being in the country illegally. She is currently in Border Patrol custody awaiting transfer to ICE for removal proceedings.”

It remains unclear if Morales-Luna will face criminal charges.

She is expected to be placed in deportation proceedings after CBP transfers her to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

News of Morales-Luna’s arrest comes as the Trump administration and California are locked in a legal and political battle over the state’s sanctuary policies.

The Department of Justice sued California Tuesday, along with Gov. Jerry Brown and Attorney General Xavier Becerra, both Democrats.

The state’s laws constitute a “significant intrusion into federal enforcement of the immigration laws,” the DOJ argues.

California officials say none of the laws prevent immigration authorities from doing their jobs.

They have also argued that the federal government cannot require state and local jurisdictions to enforce federal law.

National City, where Morales-Luna was arrested, has stopped short of describing itself as a sanctuary city, preferring to use the term “compassionate community.”

City officials supported the passage of Senate Bill 54, one of the laws at issue in DOJ’s lawsuit against California, reported the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Judge: Former Trump Campaign Chairman Could Spend Life in Prison

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort “faces the very real possibility” of a lifetime prison sentence, according to a federal court order reviewed by Fox News Tuesday.

U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III, in an order made public Tuesday, wrote that Manafort “poses a substantial flight risk” because of his “financial means and international connections to flee and remain at large.”

“Specifically given the nature of the charges against the defendant and the apparent weight of the evidence against him, defendant faces the very real possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison,” Ellis wrote.

Ellis, who is based in federal court in Alexandria at the Eastern District of Virginia, has been assigned Manafort’s latest indictment brought by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Manafort pleaded not guilty last month to the superseding indictment, with its 18 counts of tax evasion and bank fraud.

Manafort, who was first indicted in October as part of Mueller’s special counsel investigation into Russian meddling and potential collusion with Trump campaign associates in the 2016 presidential election, pleaded not guilty to both indictments. City With Highest Murder Rate Paying to Defend Illegals

Baltimore doesn’t have the highest homicide death toll in the nation – Chicago tops the list with 650 in 2017. But Baltimore does have the highest murder rate, with 56 per 100,000 residents.

So city officials are allocating $200,000 this month for what?

The legal defense of illegal aliens who are facing deportation.

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh insisted the objective is for everyone to get due process. . .

The move comes not even a year, the Washington watchdog Judicial Watch noted, after prosecutors in the city told staff members not to charge illegal immigrants with minor, non-violent crimes. (Read more from “City With Highest Murder Rate Paying to Defend Illegals” HERE)
