This Is What Al Gore Blames US Cold On

Al Gore took to his Twitter account last week to blame the recent record cold-snap on climate change. But he was sharply rebuked with facts by a famed meteorologist.

Gore tweeted the link to an article stating that bitter cold is exactly what should be expected from man-made climate change.

The article was written by Dr. Michael Mann, a professor of atmospheric science at Penn State University. Mann argues that heavy lake effect snows this year near the Great Lakes are a sign of global warming because the warming temperatures cause the lakes to stay warmer longer therefore producing more snow. He also argued that despite the recent cold snap, the U.S. has seen many more days of very above normal temperatures than very below normal temperatures over the past several years.

He also argued that despite the central and eastern U.S. being locked into an arctic cold pattern for more than a week, the western U.S. and much of the rest of the world has been warm. Mann also blamed last week’s major east coast snowstorm on warmer-than-normal ocean water.

These allegations, however, are more narrative and opinion rather than fact, according to meteorologist Joe Bastardi. (Read more from “This Is What Al Gore Blames US Cold On” HERE)

WikiLeaks Tweets Then Deletes Link to Text of New Trump Book

The website WikiLeaks on Sunday tweeted a link to the text of the new book critical of President Trump that has angered the president, his staff and his allies.

An electronic image of the text of author Michael Wolff’s book “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” appeared online Sunday, two days after its release.

The post read, “New Trump book “Fire and Fury” by Michael Wolff. Full PDF.” The Daily News reported that the tweet linked to the unnumbered PDF that appeared to be the book.

Posting the text of a book without permission would violate copyright restrictions and potentially damage sales. Yet, hours after WikiLeaks tweeted the link, “Fire and Fury” remained No. 1 on Amazon’s lists of hardcover and ebook bestsellers.

The book portrays a president who doesn’t understand the weight of his office and whose own aides question his competence. Trump has called it a “Fake Book” and its author “totally discredited.” Aides have publicly rejected the book’s premise. Refugee Admissions Lowest in Recent Years Thanks to Trump Immigration Crackdown

The U.S. admitted significantly fewer refugees in the first three months of fiscal year 2018 as the Trump administration implemented tougher vetting procedures and banned refugees from countries generating most of them.

The Wall Street Journal reported that 5,000 refugees were admitted to the country during the months of October, November and December. The figure is far below similar periods in recent years – with 25,671 refugees admitted in the same period during the Obama administration.

If the current rate of admission continues, the number of people given asylum in the U.S. will not reach the 2018 refugee ceiling of 45,000 set up by President Trump last year. The limit is already at its lowest since the program to resettle the refuges was started in 1980.

The downfall of the number of refugees admitted indicate the broader effect of the administration’s crackdown on immigration, including the controversial decision to suspend admission from 11 countries such as Iran, Iraq, Syria, and creating tougher screening process of applicants.

The administration said the figures reflect its attempt at trying to find a balance between protecting “legitimate” refugees and the need to protect the country’s security. (Read more from “Refugee Admissions Lowest in Recent Years Thanks to Trump Immigration Crackdown” HERE)

CNN Anchor’s Attack on Trump Was So Full of Errors Even One of His Colleagues Is Calling Him out for It

There appears to be some in-fighting at CNN as the network’s “State of the Union” host Jake Tapper called out “Reliable Sources” host Brian Stelter for his abandonment of journalistic standards when reporting on Michael Wolff’s controversial book “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.”

As noted by BizPac Review, Stelter recommended Wolff’s controversial book, stating that while “Wolff’s errors are sloppy … many Trump experts say the book ‘rings true overall.’”

However, Tapper, who is far from being pro-Trump, took a jab at Stelter for actively trying to push a book that is rife with factual errors.

“Having many errors but ‘ringing true’ is not a journalistic standard,” Tapper tweeted Saturday.

The CNN host went on to concede that “quotes are quotes. And if facts can be ascertained by further reporting as true, that’s also a service.”

As reported by The Western Journal, Tapper and Farhi took to Twitter to discuss the validity of claims made in Wolff’s book.

Fahri revealed that he was also “very skeptical” of the information found in the book, before asking Tapper if he believes thinks Wolff may have interviewed members of Trump’s family.

The book has been used by many left-leaning reporters, such as Stelter, as supposed proof that Trump is unfit to serve as president.

During a recent segment of “Reliable Sources,” Stelter claimed Trump’s mental stability is now a “global story” due to certain bits of information found within the book, most notably comments made by former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon.

“‘He’s not going to make it,’ said Bannon at the Breitbart Embassy. ‘He’s lost his stuff,’” Wolff writes in the book.

As noted by CNBC, Bannon has since stated that he “regrets” comments he made to Wolff, and added that his support for the Trump administration and its agenda is “unwavering.” (For more from the author of “CNN Anchor’s Attack on Trump Was So Full of Errors Even One of His Colleagues Is Calling Him out for It” please click HERE)

You’ll Never Guess Who NBC Sees as Their ‘Future President’

. . .During its broadcast of the 75th Golden Globe Awards, the official Twitter page of the National Broadcasting Company posted an intriguing tweet showing a laughing image of Oprah Winfrey with the message: “Nothing but respect for OUR future president. #GoldenGlobes.”

And despite the fact that Winfrey has squashed speculation of a potential presidential bid in 2020, Seth Meyers, the host of the TV event, tried his best to coax her into running during his opening monologue by invoking his previous remarks about President Trump.

“In 2011, I told some jokes about our current president at the White House Correspondents Dinner, jokes about how he was unqualified to be president,” Meyers said. “And some have said that night convinced him to run. And if that’s true, I would just like to say Oprah you will never be president. You do not have what it takes. And, Tom Hanks, you will never be vice president. You are too mean and unrelatable.” . . .

“It’s up to the people,” Winfrey’s longtime partner, Stedman Graham, told the Los Angeles Times. “She would absolutely do it.”

Steven Zeitchik of theWashington Post tweeted: “Asked Meryl Streep what she thought of Oprah’s speech. Her answer: ‘She launched a rocket tonight. I want her to run for president. I don’t think she had any intention [of declaring]. But now she doesn’t have a choice.’” (Read more from “You’ll Never Guess Who NBC Sees as Their ‘Future President'” HERE)

Hold On! Trump Makes Big Change to Fake News Awards

Despite days of anticipation, President Trump has decided to postpone his “Fake News Awards,” making people wait more than another week to find out who he thinks is the most corrupt and biased in today’s news media.

Trump tweeted the change in schedule Sunday afternoon, saying: “The Fake News Awards, those going to the most corrupt & biased of the Mainstream Media, will be presented to the losers on Wednesday, January 17th, rather than this coming Monday. The interest in, and importance of, these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipated!”

Now, don’t expect Jim Acosta or Rachel Maddow to be strolling down a red carpet or arriving at the White House in limousines in hopeful anticipation of accepting the dishonor.

In fact, several late-night comedy hosts are actually campaigning for the public disgrace that presumably will bring higher ratings . . .

Jimmy Kimmel and Trevor Noah all took time on their shows Wednesday to mull over their chances of receiving one of the awards – or as Colbert referred to them, “the Fakies.” (Read more from “Hold On! Trump Makes Big Change to Fake News Awards” HERE)

The Author of the Explosive New Trump Book Admits There Are False Claims

By Business Insider. The author of the explosive new book about Donald Trump’s presidency acknowledged in an author’s note that he wasn’t certain all of its content was true.

Michael Wolff, the author of “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” included a note at the start that casts significant doubt on the reliability of the specifics contained in the rest of its pages.

Several of his sources, he says, were definitely lying to him, while some offered accounts that flatly contradicted those of others.

But some were nonetheless included in the vivid account of the West Wing’s workings, in a process Wolff describes as “allowing the reader to judge” whether the sources’ claims are true.

In other cases, the media columnist said, he did use his journalistic judgment and research to arrive at what he describes “a version of events I believe to be true.” (Read more from “The Author of the Explosive New Trump Book Admits There Are False Claims” HERE)

Trump World Frustrated, Angry Over New Book

By Jordan Fabian. Allies of President Trump are aghast at the damage caused by a new book that paints a picture of a chaotic, dysfunctional and incompetent early months of the Trump administration.

Current and former Trump aides believe many of the juiciest stories in “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” are exaggerated or wholly fictional and don’t think the book is resonating outside the Beltway among the president’s core supporters.

But they are shocked that the author, Michael Wolff, was given access to the White House for months to work on the project and stunned at the seemingly low regard some staffers have for the president as described in the book.

“The biggest political mistake in American history was to allow a reporter, whose integrity has been impugned across the spectrum, into the White House and give him free rein,” said one source close to the White House.

The source blamed former chief White House strategist Stephen Bannon for Wolff’s frequent presence in the West Wing. Bannon is quoted extensively in the book and offered blistering criticism of the president and his family. (Read more from “Trump World Frustrated, Angry Over New Book” HERE)

Illegal Alien Who Shot Kate Steinle Avoids Prison Over Firearm Conviction

The illegal immigrant who discharged a firearm and killed 32-year-old Kate Steinle was sentenced to three years in prison Friday, but he won’t be spending any more time in state jail.

Jose Ines Garcia Zarate was acquitted of Steinle’s murder in December, but a jury convicted him of the lesser charge of a felon in possession of a firearm.

Since he has been detained in the San Francisco jail since his arrest on July 1, 2015, he was credited for time served.

Garcia Zarate will be on state parole for 48 months and will be transferred to federal custody.

He faces federal weapons charges under a Dec. 5 indictment.

The Steinle shooting touched off a nationwide debate over sanctuary cities after it was revealed that San Francisco authorities had released Garcia Zarate despite an outstanding detention request by immigration authorities.

Then-candidate Donald Trump pointed to the incident as a tragic consequence of San Francisco’s refusal to cooperate with immigration authorities.

At trial, defense attorneys conceded that Garcia Zarate fired the shot that killed Steinle, but asserted that he had accidentally discharged the pistol, which he found under a bench on the San Francisco pier.

That argument swayed the jury, which acquitted Garcia Zarate of murder, manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon. (For more from the author of “Illegal Alien Who Shot Kate Steinle Avoids Prison Over Firearm Conviction” please click HERE)

Obamacare Mandate ‘Irony’: It’s Tax Repealed in Tax Reform

Republicans succeeded in repealing the individual mandate in the 2010 Affordable Care Act as part of the recent tax reform package, but a leading health care expert urges President Trump and members of Congress to do even more this year to bring financial relief to Americans saddled by high premiums and deductibles.

Galen Institute President Grace-Marie Turner has been on the front lines of the health care debate since before the Clinton administration attempted to give government a greater role in the sector in the 1990s. A fierce critic of the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, Turner is relishing how the individual mandate was sent to the scrap heap starting in 2019.

“The lovely irony is that the least popular provision of Obamacare was repealed in the tax bill. It’s a bit of a touché to the Supreme Court,” said Turner, noting that the court upheld the individual mandate as constitutional only if it was considered a tax.

Beyond the political and legal drama, Turner says the mandate improved nothing and was a major burden on people.

“It was ineffective. It was not doing what it needed to do. Health insurance was so expensive that it was driving people away from policies. Even with the tax penalties, people still found it was cheaper to pay the penalties than to buy this expensive coverage,” said Turner. Anti-Trump Dossier Author Referred to FBI for Criminal Investigation

On Friday, top Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee referred the author of the unverified anti-Trump dossier to the FBI and DOJ for criminal investigation.

Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) referred former British spy Christopher Steele, who was hired by Fusion GPS to compile the anti-Trump dossier, to the FBI and DOJ to be investigated for possible crimes after they said that he may have made false statements to investigators about his communications with journalists in the U.S. about the dossier. The letter states:

Based on the information contained therein, we are respectfully referring Mr. Steele to you for investigation of potential violations of 18 U.S.C. § 1001, for statements the Committee has reason to believe Mr. Steele made regarding his distribution of information contained in the dossier.

In a statement, Grassley wrote, “I don’t take lightly making a referral for criminal investigation. But, as I would with any credible evidence of a crime unearthed in the course of our investigations, I feel obliged to pass that information along to the Justice Department for appropriate review.”
