Judge Orders Chelsea Manning to Be Released Following Suicide Attempt

A federal judge ordered Thursday that former Army analyst Chelsea Manning immediately be released from the Virginia jail where [he’s] been held in contempt for almost a year.

Manning, 32, was taken to a hospital Wednesday after [he] attempted suicide, [his] legal team said. [He] had been scheduled for a hearing Friday in Alexandria, Virginia, where [he] has been held since May after [he] refused to answer questions from a grand jury looking into the release of documents to WikiLeaks.

But U.S. District Judge Anthony Trenga said Thursday that the grand jury had completed its business and found that Manning’s “appearance before the Grand Jury is no longer needed.” He ordered the Justice Department to release [him] immediately but ordered [him] to pay the $256,000 in fines that had accrued as [he] fought the order to testify.

Manning was convicted at a court-martial of espionage and other charges in 2013 for leaking secret military files to WikiLeaks. [He] has refused to answer further questions about WikiLeaks, arguing that [he] already did so during her trial seven years ago. Chelsea Manning Released From Jail After Refusing to Testify to Grand Jury

By The Hill. Manning’s attorneys said that while [he] was being released, [he] had been served with another subpoena to testify before a different grand jury or face more jail time.

“Today marked the expiration of the term of the grand jury, and so, after 62 days of confinement, Chelsea was released from the Alexandria Detention Center earlier today,” her lawyers said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, even prior to [his] release, Chelsea was served with another subpoena. This means [he] is expected to appear before a different grand jury, on Thursday, May 16, 2019, just one week from [his] release today.”

The lawyers said it was “conceivable” that Manning would again be held in contempt of court and return to the jail in Alexandria, Va., as soon as next week.

“Chelsea will continue to refuse to answer questions, and will use every available legal defense to prove to District Judge Trenga that [he] has just cause for her refusal to give testimony,” the lawyers said. Chelsea Manning May End up Back in Jail

Chelsea Manning may end up back in jail after the transgender activist refused to comply with a federal grand jury subpoena.

Law & Crime reports that it’s unclear what issue the federal grand jury has been convened over, but it appears that prosecutors wanted Manning to testify regarding Julian Assange and Wikileaks. A U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia appeared to confirm that the government is pursuing an as-yet-unknown set of potential criminal charges against the Wikileaks founder, who is still holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

“The government slapped Manning with a subpoena to appear before a grand jury in the EDVA, Manning moved to quash the subpoena. A federal judge denied that attempted quashing on Tuesday,” Law & Crime reported earlier this week.

Manning, of course, has a clear connection to Assange, having offered Wikileaks a trove of classified documents, transcripts, and videos stolen from military intelligence agencies in the Middle East during the Iraq War. Manning downloaded the classified material, ostensibly in protest of the military’s ban on LGBT individuals serving openly, and passed the material to Assange, who posted it on Wikileaks. . .

Manning appears to have no intention of appearing or testifying in front of the federal grand jury, whether he is able to successfully quash the subpoena or not. On Thursday, Manning told CNN that prosecutors did not specify why the were seeking testimony. (Read more from “Chelsea Manning May End up Back in Jail” HERE)

Chelsea Manning, Convicted Leaker, Compares Living in U.S. to Prison

Convicted leaker Chelsea Manning may be out of a military prison, but [he] said Monday her newfound freedom feels anything but free.

As part of her first public appearance in the United Kingdom, Manning spoke at the Royal Institution in London on a variety of topics, including President Trump and how “drastically different” the world is, according to The Guardian.

“This whole notion that you get out of prison and you are free now turned out to be a bit of a downer in that sense,” [he] said Monday. “Because what happened, we really built this large, big prison, which is the United States, in the meantime – it was already happening, it just really intensified. . .

“You think about the fact that we have walls around our country, and that is very much the same thing that is inside a prison,” [he] told a crowd Monday. “I see a lot of similarities between the world out here and the world that was in there.” . . .

The Australian government sent Manning’s team a notice of intention to deny the convicted leaker’s entry for an event. All non-citizens visiting Australia must fall under the character requirements put out by the Migration Act. Anyone can be denied if they fail the character test.

Absolutely Shocking: Muslim Activist Endorses ‘Chelsea Manning’ for Senate

Now that traitor Chelsea Manning has announced his candidacy for the United States Senate in Maryland (an announcement that changed the course of human history on Monday), super-American patriot Linda Sarsour has offered her endorsement, stunning those who regarded Sarsour as the iconic version of American patriotism.

Manning spent seven years in jail for his 35-year sentence for espionage and theft of classified documents, including battlefield videos and diplomatic cables from classified computer accounts . . .

Sarsour has demonstrated some American sentiments of her own: appearing onstage with Rev. Jeremiah Wright (who once infamously cried, “God damn America”) at Louis Farrakhan’s #JusticeOrElse rally in 2015; perpetuating a bizarre conspiracy theory that the underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was working with the CIA; asserting she was “hurt” by the way Saddam Hussein looked so disheveled on international television after being caught by American forces; and advocating for Sharia law. ‘Chelsea Manning’ Running for Senate

Chelsea Manning on Sunday confirmed via Twitter that he is a candidate for U.S. Senate.

Three days after making his intention known to federal election officials, Manning tweeted “yup, we’re running for senate” with an attached campaign video indicating his intention to run in the 2018 Maryland Democratic primary. She sent a subsequent tweet seeking donations to his campaign.

The 71-second video weaves together images of white supremacists holding tiki torches in Charlottesville, Virginia, as well as protesters clashing with police elsewhere.

“We live in trying times . times of fear . of suppression . of hate,” Manning said.

The montage shifts to the U.S. Capitol and President Donald Trump sitting with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, both Democrats. (Read more from “‘Chelsea Manning’ Running for Senate” HERE)

Canada Recognizes ‘Chelsea’ Manning as a Traitor, Won’t Let Him in Country

Chelsea Manning has been denied entry into Canada, according to a letter [he] recently posted to Twitter.

According to the letter Manning received from the Canadian government, [he] was “inadmissible on grounds of serious criminality for having been convicted of an offense outside Canada,” the letter reads.

The letter further describes Canada’s decision to bar Manning by comparing the offense [he] was convicted of in the U.S.

“If committed in Canada this offense would equate to an indictable offense, namely Treason described under section 46(2)(B) of the Criminal Code of Canada,” the letter states. (Read more from “Canada Recognizes ‘Chelsea’ Manning as a Traitor, Won’t Let Him in Country” HERE)

Chelsea Manning Will Remain Active-Duty, Receive Health Care and Benefits on Release

When Chelsea Manning is released from military prison, he will remain in active duty status and be eligible for health care benefits.

Manning, who is widely known for leaking hundreds of thousands of national security documents to WikiLeaks in 2010, will leave Fort Leavenworth on May 17 and be entitled to health care, USA Today reports.

Although Manning initially entered prison as a man named Bradley, he later transitioned and adopted the name Chelsea in 2013. He attempted suicide multiple times while in confinement and complained of abuse like “routinely forced haircuts.” In 2016, Manning engaged in a hunger strike until the government agreed to provide gender transition treatment.

As one of his last moves before leaving the White House, President Barack Obama commuted Manning’s 35-year sentence, which enraged President-elect Donald Trump.

“Ungrateful TRAITOR Chelsea Manning, who should never have been released from prison, is now calling President Obama a weak leader. Terrible!” Trump tweeted January 26. (Read more from “Chelsea Manning Will Remain Active-Duty, Receive Health Care and Benefits on Release” HERE)
