All Class: Laura Bush’s Sweet Message to Melania Trump

A day before former President George H.W. Bush was laid to rest, former First Lady Laura Bush and Bush family members were hosted by First Lady Melania Trump at the White House, touring the much-discussed Christmas decor. Mrs. Bush was quick to thank Mrs. Trump for the “sweet visit during this somber week.”

“Thanks to Mrs. Trump for inviting our family to the White House to see the Christmas decorations and our old friends, the residence staff,” wrote the former First Lady, posting two photos from the visit.

Following the visit, the Trumps and the Bushes greeted one another in a warm exchange outside the presidential guest house, Blair House (video below).

Mrs. Bush and Mrs. Trump have a much warmer relationship than what is perceived to be an essentially nonexistent relationship between the current FLOTUS and her predecessor, Michelle Obama.

In April, Mrs. Bush and Mrs. Trump shared tea together at the White House. Additionally, Mrs. Bush had nothing but warm wishes and kind words to say about the current First Lady during an interview with CNN in November of 2017.

Laura Bush ‘Shocked’ at Initial Barbara Bush Hesitancy to Support Jeb Bush’s White House Bid

Laura BushFormer First Lady Laura Bush said she was completely taken aback when her mother-in-law Barbara Bush expressed disapproval – before eventually reversing her position – about a potential run for the presidency by her son, Jeb Bush, saying at the time that the country had had “enough Bushes” in the White House.

“I was shocked,” Bush told ABC’s Jonathan Karl during an interview Wednesday, adding that she disagreed with the Bush family matriarch’s comments in 2013, but also making clear that she had no intention of making her aware of that fact.

“Do you think I would tell my mother-in-law something?” she said with a smile.

Bush, the wife of former President George W. Bush, expressed support for her brother-in-law Jeb’s likely candidacy in the upcoming presidential election and sharply disagreed with the position of one of his Republicans rivals.

Sen. Rand Paul, who announced his presidential campaign last week, has called for eliminating all U.S. foreign aid. Bush told ABC News doing that would be both impractical and immoral. Pro-Gay Marriage Ads Feature Obama, Bush, Cheney, Powell (+video)

Photo Credit: Daily Caller The Gay Marriage advocacy partnership Respect for Marriage Coalition launched a $1 million national advertising campaign featuring a bipartisan group of political heavyweights pushing for gay marriage Wednesday.

The campaign features past statements from President Barack Obama, former first lady Laura Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Secretary of Defense Colin Powell all voicing their support for same-sex couples to wed.

Respect for Marriage Coalition’s message is set to appear in the coalition’s nationwide television, print — including full-page ads in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post — and online ads.

The ads rely on past clips of interviews and speeches from Obama, Bush, Cheney and Powell.

The organization uses a clip of Bush on CNN saying, “When couples are committed to each other and love each other then they ought to have the same sort of rights that everyone has” and Powell, also on CNN, saying, “Allowing them to live together with the protection of law, it seems to me is the way we should be moving in this country.”

Spouse appeal: Wives help Obama, Romney campaigns

It’s no coincidence that Michelle Obama and Ann Romney are showing up a lot more as the tight presidential race barrels into the final few months.

The rival campaigns are rolling out their top assets in a big way. The first lady is the public face of a new grass-roots mobilizing effort for Team Obama. And Mrs. Romney’s recent interviews have put her on display cutting through the campaign din – including her blunt statement Thursday that her husband has provided everything that “people need to know” and won’t be releasing more tax returns.

Although Mrs. Romney is still largely unknown to a large swath of the public, both women are well regarded by voters in their own parties, and the campaigns are going all-out to use their appeal in ways that go well beyond the traditional presidential cookie bakeoff.

“They really do appear to be in it to win it, both of them, and sincerely in it to win it,” says Anita McBride, who served as Laura Bush’s chief of staff in the White House.

Mrs. Obama on Thursday made her debut as the leader the Obama campaign’s new “It Takes One” program, which asks supporters to do one thing to promote the campaign – and to engage someone else to do likewise.
