Obamacare Is Obama Unmasked

Photo Credit: DonkeyHoteyAren’t some of you tired of making lame excuses for him that only serve to make things worse? He has made a mess of nearly everything his policies have touched, and he’s mostly avoided the blame; but he owns Obamacare, and he has nowhere to hide.

When someone with the influence Obama enjoyed upon first taking office sets out to fundamentally transform the nation — and he has the unqualified support of the entire liberal media apparatus, the Democratic Party in lock step, millions of people purchased with government money and/or indoctrinated in liberal universities, and the cudgels of racial shaming and white guilt — the possibilities are endless.

Constitutionalists have observed for years that America has been on a downward spiral as its ruling class has discarded its founding principles — the very ideas that led to this nation’s uniqueness, power, prosperity and benevolence. We’ve known that we could not forever piggyback, with impunity, on America’s system of limited government and its free market economy. Eventually, statist encroachments on both would destroy our prosperity, liberty and power.

But we were thinking in terms of decades into the future, not a matter of a few years. Who would have ever thought the United States would embark on such an accelerated path of national suicide?

At the beginning, people could argue that Obama would usher in a period of prosperity and bipartisanship and that things would get better in America. But after five years of unconscionably reckless federal spending, a wholesale assault on our domestic energy industries, endless abuses of executive authority and other lawless incursions on the Constitution, unprecedented divisiveness and polarization across economic, racial and gender lines, America’s declining power and prestige in the world, an explosion of the welfare state, and the worst economic recovery in 60 years, how can anyone who cares about this nation’s future and the well-being of our children and grandchildren keep supporting this man’s policies?

Romney: Obama’s Broken Healthcare Promise ‘Rotting Away’ Second Term

Photo Credit: Getty Images By Mario Trujillo.

Mitt Romney said President Obama’s broken healthcare promise that people who like their insurance can keep it is “rotting away” his second term in office.

If the White House wants to regain trust, Romney said it needs to work with both parties to rebuild the law.

“Whether you like the model of ObamaCare or not the fact that the president sold it on the basis that is not true has undermine the foundation of his second term. I think it is rotting it away,” Romney said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Romney asserted that healthcare would never have passed in 2010 if Obama had been straightforward with the public. He said Obama is not able to lead with his credibility fading.

“We’ve got to have a president that can lead and right now he is not able to do so,” he said.

Photo Credit: AP/Evan VucciRomney: He Planned ‘Requirement’ That All States Ensure All Are Insured

By Terence P. Jeffrey.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential nominee who lost to President Barack Obama in the 2012 election, told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday that if he had been elected he planned to have the federal government require state governments to make sure that everyone within their states had health insurance.

“But my own plan was to say to each state, ‘You’ve got a requirement to move to a point where all your people are insured, and where you cover preexisting conditions,” Romney said.

Romney also said: “I had a very conservative platform. And that kind of conservative platform I think is the foundation of any successful campaign in 2016.”

As governor of Massachusetts, Romney signed a law that required everyone in that state to have a government-approved health insurance plan that would be subsidized by the taxpayers for people whose income was below a certain level.

Romneycare has often been called the model for Obamacare, but Romney has rejected that characterization saying he would not impose one plan on the entire country. Instead, he has argued, such health-care reform plans should be imposed state by state.

Why So Shocked? You Were NEVER Meant To Keep Your Health Insurance Under Obamacare

Photo Credit: Red State By LaborUnionReport.

It takes some time to fundamentally transform America and, while they may be wrong about a lot of things almost everything, in this instance, Democrats are right about one thing: The term transition is absolutely the correct term when discussing the debacle known as ObamaCare.

You see, while they will never openly admit it (excepting, perhaps, in the darkest recesses of some corner inside the White House or the Center of American Progress), ObamaCare was never meant for Americans to “keep their health insurance plans,” it is a transition plan to drive all Americans* to single-payer (aka nationalized or socialized) health care.

On October 15, 2008, several weeks before Barack Obama’s election and well before ObamaCare was enacted, I wrote (pre-LUR and RedState) a post entitled Obama’s Plan to Socialize Health Care.

In the post, I stated, “Within five years (if not sooner), the U.S. will have full-blown socialized medicine under President Barack Obama.”

This prediction was not based on all of the regulations that were eventually put into the Affordable Care Act–those regulations that are causing millions to lose their individual coverage and another 93 million potentially to lose their employer-sponsored health plans–but was based on simple economics.

Photo Credit: Bloomberg NewsYou Also Can’t Keep Your Doctor

By Edie Littlefield Sundby.

Everyone now is clamoring about Affordable Care Act winners and losers. I am one of the losers.

My grievance is not political; all my energies are directed to enjoying life and staying alive, and I have no time for politics. For almost seven years I have fought and survived stage-4 gallbladder cancer, with a five-year survival rate of less than 2% after diagnosis. I am a determined fighter and extremely lucky. But this luck may have just run out: My affordable, lifesaving medical insurance policy has been canceled effective Dec. 31.

My choice is to get coverage through the government health exchange and lose access to my cancer doctors, or pay much more for insurance outside the exchange (the quotes average 40% to 50% more) for the privilege of starting over with an unfamiliar insurance company and impaired benefits.

Countless hours searching for non-exchange plans have uncovered nothing that compares well with my existing coverage. But the greatest source of frustration is Covered California, the state’s Affordable Care Act health-insurance exchange and, by some reports, one of the best such exchanges in the country. After four weeks of researching plans on the website, talking directly to government exchange counselors, insurance companies and medical providers, my insurance broker and I are as confused as ever. Time is running out and we still don’t have a clue how to best proceed.

Two things have been essential in my fight to survive stage-4 cancer. The first are doctors and health teams in California and Texas: at the medical center of the University of California, San Diego, and its Moores Cancer Center; Stanford University’s Cancer Institute; and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Sen. Dan Coats: Americans Will Be Stuck on ‘Titanic’ Obamacare (+video)

Photo Credit: YouTube The problems with Obamacare run much more deeply than the glitches on its expensive, faulty website — and fixing the site’s technological problems won’t heal the wounds being caused by the health insurance law, says Indiana Sen. Dan Coats.

“The failure of [the] Obamacare launch is just the tip of the iceberg,” said Coats, giving Saturday’s GOP weekly address. “Unless we act, Americans will be stuck on board this Titanic.”

Obamacare launched one month ago, on Oct. 1, and many Americans still can’t go online and sign up, despite promises by the White House and congressional Democrats that the insurance exchanges would be ready to go.

“The president even told the American public that signing up online would be as easy as a few simple keystrokes,” said Coats. “Perhaps the President hasn’t tried logging onto the website himself because he and his political appointees are not required to join Obamacare.”

But the rest of the country doesn’t have that choice, and the few that have been able to access the online exchanges are “experiencing sticker shock,” Coats said.

More Lipstick on the ObamaCare Pig

Photo Credit: Mike Licht, NotionsCapital.comThe White House PR machine keeps trying to put lipstick on the ObamaCare pig. According to Whitehouse.gov, “there’s some great news from a Department of Health and Human Services report… Thanks to Obamacare, half of young adults between age 18 and 34 who are single and uninsured can get health coverage for $50/month or less.”

There are two problems with the claim. First, the actual percentage, according to HHS figures, of 18-34 year olds who qualify for the $50/month rate is not “half” but 2.9%. The numbers are 1.3 million out of 44.2 million.

Secondly, the $50/month rate is not a market price but one that is subsidized by an expanded government entitlement.

The White House statement is not technically another ObamaCare lie, but it requires reading the fine print for interpretation. The full “caveated” statement in the report from the Office of The Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at HHS reads as follows:

Nearly 5 in 10 (46 percent, or 1.3 million) uninsured young adults in single-person households who may be eligible for the Health Insurance Marketplace may be able to purchase a bronze plan for $50 per month or less after tax credits, based on analysis of data in 34 states.

Obamacare’s Authoritarian Problem: Consumer Choice Trumps Coercion Every Time

photo credit: fibonacci blueYou can’t keep your insurance if you like it under Obamacare, because you’re too ignorant to understand what’s good for you.

That’s the argument we’ve been hearing from a lot of folks on the left — an argument that pivots from “common good” to soft authoritarianism. President Barack Obama is all in, as well, claiming that he was merely guilty of forcing Americans to pick a “Ferrari” health care plan over a “Ford” one. (Is it really “picking” if you’re forced?)

This is necessary because health care is not a product as a toaster is a product. (It took me only a few seconds online to find 613 different types of toasters, ranging in price from more than $300 to $15. They weren’t subsidized, and I even could carry them across state lines. If health care were like toasters, we’d all be in great shape.) And as they do with anything that features negative externalities, technocrats will tinker, nudge and, inevitably, push.

“America doesn’t have a free-market health care system and hasn’t for decades,” Business Insider’s Josh Barro wrote in a piece titled “If You Like Your Health Plan, You Probably Shouldn’t Be Able To Keep It.” “With taxpayer subsidies so embedded in everybody’s plan purchasing decisions, taxpayers have a legitimate interest in ensuring that health plans serve the public interest, not just private interests.”

“Legitimate” is a malleable adjective. Just think of all the other areas of American society that are subsidized by taxpayers. Agriculture, higher education, the auto industry, the banking industry, professional sports, marriage — the possibilities are endless. Why is Washington allowing 20-year-old college students to work on business degrees when we need them to be engineers and factory workers? We subsidize, so why don’t we decide?

Appeals Court Strikes Down Obamacare Contraception Mandate

Photo Credit: APA federal appeals court struck down Obamacare’s controversial birth control mandate, declaring that requiring contraception coverage in employee health plans is unduly burdensome for business owners who oppose birth control on religious grounds.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled 2-1 Friday in favor of Francis and Philip Gilardi, the Roman Catholic owners of Ohio-based Freshway Foods and Freshway Logistics, who argued that the provision in the new healthcare law would violate their religious freedom, The Hill reports.

“The burden on religious exercise does not occur at the point of contraceptive purchase; instead, it occurs when a company’s owners fill the basket of goods and services that constitute a healthcare plan,” wrote Judge Janice Rogers Brown in the court’s decision.

Had the plaintiffs refused to comply with the law, they would have faced a $14 million fine.

Kudlow: Liberal Entitlement State Crumbling

Photo Credit: Getty ImagesMay I ask this question? Why is it that Americans don’t have the freedom to choose their own health insurance? I just don’t get it. Why must the liberal nanny state make decisions for us? We can make them ourselves, thank you very much. It’s like choosing a car, buying a home or investing in a stock. We can handle it.

So why must the government tell me and everyone else what we can and cannot buy?

Charles Krauthammer and the Wall Street Journal’s Dan Henninger noted in excellent recent columns that this whole Obamacare business represents the greatest-ever expansion of the liberal entitlement-state dream. But I don’t want that dream. And you shouldn’t either.

Here’s what else I don’t want: As a 60-something, relatively healthy person, I don’t want lactation and maternity services, abortion services, speech therapy, mammograms, fertility treatments or Viagra. I don’t want it. So why should I have to tear up my existing health-care plan, and then buy a plan with far more expensive premiums and deductibles, and with services I don’t need or want?

Why? Because Team Obama says I have to. And that’s not much of a reason. It’s not freedom.

Savage Warns Broken Obamacare Website Not the Real Story

Dr. Savage warned listeners not to be distracted by the disastrous rollout of the Obamacare website.

“I have a little news for you,” he explained. “Obama, Valerie Jarrett, Axelrod and the others actually wanted the website and the system to fail. Why? So that the people who want free health care will demand a government-run, single-payer system” (Free audio).

Savage also reported on atheist-activist “Mikey” Weinstein’s latest coup: forcing the Air Force Academy to drop the words “So help me God” from its honor oath.

“This man is a public enemy and a deviant of the lowest order,” Savage declared. “Why does the American military now turn to a twisted sister like Mikey Weinstein and ask this piece of garbage whether or not they can say ‘God’ in a military chapel?

“This would stop if we had a truly God-fearing president. [Obama] doesn’t even fake it” (Free audio).

One Month Into ObamaCare Number Uninsured Americans Up

Photo Credit: Fox News Obamacare was sold to credulous “Progressives” on the grounds that it was the way to achieve universal health insurance coverage for all Americans. But the Congressional Budget Office scored the legislation as leaving 30 million uninsured 10 years after full implementation! That is more than half the nation’s uninsured pre-Obamacare.

But just one month after Obamacare went into effect, the number of uninsured Americans has gone up rather than down. Just last week, Florida Blue announced it was issuing termination notices for 300,000 policies, about 80 percent of its individual policies in the state. Kaiser Permanente in California cancelled 160,000 policies, about half of its individual policies in the state. Insurer Highmark in Pittsburgh dropped 20 percent of its individual policies. In Philadelphia, Independence Blue Cross nixed 45% of its individual policies. CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield cancelled 76,000 individual plans in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC, over 40 percent of its individual policies in those states.

But didn’t President Obama tell us that if you liked your health plan, you could keep it? Current policies were supposed to be “grandfathered” in under Obamacare. But the HHS regulations implementing that provision are so restrictive that few current policies qualify under it. The Weekly Standard estimates that as a result 16 million current individual policies, in a nationwide market of 19 million, would be cancelled because they do not meet the new regulatory requirements of Obamacare. That is 85 percent of the individual health insurance market, which involves health coverage individuals buy outside of employer provided insurance.

This is just the beginning, however, of the Obamacare collapse in health insurance coverage. CBO estimates that as many as 20 million will lose their employer provided health insurance under Obamacare. Former CBO Director Douglas-Holtz-Eakin estimated in a study for the American Action Forum that the number will be 40 million.

The individual and employer mandates were supposed to force most Americans to buy the health insurance that the Obama Administration specifies they must buy. But in most cases, the penalty for failing to comply is only a small fraction of the cost of the required health insurance. Moreover, employers can give their workers a raise now by dropping costly Obamacare coverage, and most workers can get Obamacare subsidies on the Exchanges as well, which will further induce employers to drop their coverage. Workers on their own can evade the individual mandate, and rely on Obamacare’s guaranteed issue and community rating regulatory requirements to buy coverage at standard prices if they get sick with costly illnesses.
