Lew: US Will Hit Debt Ceiling Late February

On Wednesday, Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew said that America would once again hit the debt ceiling by late February, despite Congress’ temporary debt limit increase back in October 2013. That agreement suspended the debt ceiling and funded the federal government, as well as creating a committee with an eye toward a deficit reduction plan. The deal did contemplate that the debt ceiling would run out by February 7.

Lew wrote, “I respectfully urge Congress to provide certainty and stability to the economy and financial markets by acting to raise the debt limit before February 7, 2014, and certainly before late February.”

Babies Aborted in NYC in 1 Yr Would Fill Super Bowl Stadium

Abortionists terminated the lives of 83,750 babies in New York City in 2010, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s latest “Abortion Surveillance” report, which was published on Nov. 29, 2013.

That is more than enough people to sell out MetLife Stadium, the site of this year’s Super Bowl, which is located in East Rutherford, N.J., and is home to both the New York Jets and the New York Giants.

According to its official website, MetLife has a capacity of 82,500.

The 83,750 babies aborted in New York City in 2010, according to the CDC’s annual “Abortion Surveillance,” would also fill Madison Square Garden more than four times over. Madison Square Garden, according to its official website, has a capacity of 19,763 for a basketball game.

‘Drop the Cabbage, Bullwinkle!’: Alaskan Man Faces Prison for the Crime of Moose-Feeding

He was on his property, it was his cabbage to give, and no one claims that he meant any harm to his amply-antlered friends. But 67-year old Samuel Becker is facing prison for giving visiting moose vegetables to munch on, reports Fox News.

After receiving a tip last month that Becker had been feeding moose, Alaska State Troopers responded to the scene. They claim that Becker fed moose on the day of their visit. And so, Becker will appear in court on Feb. 3 to face a misdemeanor charge of intentionally feeding game. He faces a fine of up to $10,000 and up to a year in jail.

That’s right–a year behind bars.

Enticing moose onto one’s land may not be a brilliant idea. Moose can be dangerous beasts, as Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters explained to Fox News: “Even if they don’t attack you, your presence around them could agitate them, and it could make it more dangerous for somebody else passing by that might not even know the moose is standing there.” It’s reasonable to discourage people from getting too close to moose with civil fines, but it’s beyond the pale to threaten them with jail time.

Do we really think these are serious charges? Isn’t the threat of heavy fines and jail an empty one? If only this were so. In 2010, retired Alaskan schoolteacher Charlie Vandergaw was fined $20,000 after he pleaded guilty to charges of illegally feeding bears. Sure, it was stupid. But a crime? Treating such infractions as crimes can ruin people’s lives.

In the name of protecting Becker from the consequences of his admittedly questionable decisions, the state of Alaska is poised to inflict a far more grave injury. The continued existence of such criminal laws represents more of a threat to our livelihoods, reputations, and liberties than unruly moose. These criminal charges should be dropped and the matter should be resolved through the civil justice system.

If You Can’t Put A Name On Evil, You Should Expect It To Never Go Away

So just how bad is abortion? Fair question. Let’s engage. Does it pervert the practice of medicine? Is it Genocide? Does it devalue human existence? You don’t need an Or Statement here. Embrace instead the healing power of “And.” Abortion does all three of the things I suggested and is therefore an intolerable affront to decency and civilization.

Abortion is only tolerated by what Aldous Huxley once referred to as cynical realism. Like the proposed statue of Satan in Oklahoma; abortion is a clear and unambiguous argument that the American People may no longer have any meaningful commitment to basic decency. This drives the brave and morally courageous to gather in protest on the 41st anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.

Abortion has stained and perverted some aspects of the practice of medicine. On a practical level, it has lead to the continued operation of “Women’s Health Clinics” that display a level of care and sanitation that had previously been banished with the adoption of modern sterile techniques of medical practice. On a legal level, the desires of some to make abortions widely available has lead to widespread violations of laws protecting female minors.

Abortion has a sordid and underreported history as a eugenic tool. When you practice eugenics through subtraction, you basically have to resort to genocide. The Economic Whiz Kids who brought us Freakonomics took time out of their busy research day to inform us that aborting the right kind of children reduces crime in America. You could even clean up Mordor if you just got rid of the gosh-darn Orcs. A man named Kermit Gosnell put that ethic into ruthless practice in Philadelphia, PA and thereby became a coalmine canary for what was happening in at abortion mills all over America. I described the obvious racial skew in abortions performed below.

The New York State Department of Health reports that in 2008, almost 50,000 out of 118,000 abortions were performed on African-America unborn children. 54,000 out of the 118,000 pre-birth assassinations were directed at White unborn children. Assuming that New York State more or less “looks like America”, and that American demographics didn’t undergo watershed transformation in 2008, there is an obvious disparity between population proportion and numbers of abortions taking place in America today. 42.3% of New York State’s abortions involved a racial cohort representing 12.4% of the population. Less than ½ of the abortion procedures (46%) involved white children.

BART Police Mourn Officer Killed in Accidental Shooting by Partner

A day after the first Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer was killed in the line of duty in the agency’s 42-year history — gunned down accidentally by a fellow officer — the department struggled to come to terms with the loss of Det. Sgt. Tommy Smith.

“We’re in shock, disbelief, we’re numb, we’re grieving,” BART Police Chief Kenton Rainey told reporters at BART’s Oakland headquarters, describing the 23-year veteran who headed the detective unit as “very supportive of his personnel, just a really really happy guy, a family man.”

Smith, 42, is survived by his wife, Kellie, a BART police officer who heads the department’s K-9 unit, and their 6-year-old daughter. Rainey said he had also met with Smith’s mother and two brothers, both in local law enforcement, at the Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where he thanked the medical staff for “everything they did to try to save Tommy’s life.”

“Tommy was a great law enforcement officer but an even better son, brother, husband, father and friend,” said Rainey, who choked back tears. “He touched many lives.”

Investigators provided few details of what took place inside the Dublin apartment where Smith and his team were conducting a probation search Tuesday afternoon.

Glenn Beck to Cuomo: “Governor, Let Me Tell You Something…”

By Fox News Insider.

Glenn Beck fired back at Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo for saying “extreme conservatives” have no place in New York.

He wrote an open letter to the governor after Cuomo said, “Who are they? Right to life, pro-assault weapons, anti-gay — if that’s who they are, they have no place in the state of New York because that’s not who New Yorkers are.”

Do Pro-Lifers Have a Place in New York? Cuomo’s Comments Spark Backlash Days Before March for Life

By Rob Bluey.

Hundreds of thousands of people will make their way to nation’s capital for the 41st annual March for Life this week. New Yorkers plan to use the occasion to criticize Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY), whose controversial comments about pro-lifers have set off a firestorm.

Last week, Cuomo attacked “extreme conservatives” as people “who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay.” Then, he added, “[I]f that’s who they are and they’re the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are.”

Now, with a major pro-life event happening this week, The Buffalo News reports that Cuomo could be the center of attention at Wednesday’s rally.

“I am guessing that Andrew Cuomo’s remarks are going to be repeated by every speaker on the platform,” Stasia Zoladz Vogel, president of the Buffalo Regional Right to Life Committee, told the newspaper. “Everyone will know how much Andrew loves his constituents.”

Cuomo’s aides said the governor wasn’t talking about constituents; his comments were instead directed at Republican candidates. That hasn’t stopped some critics from calling on Cuomo to resign.

Wednesday’s March for Life is expected to draw upwards of 200,000 attendees. This year’s event comes amid important cases before the U.S. Supreme Court — and now Cuomo’s controversial comments.
Heritage President Jim DeMint, in a video for the March for Life, delivered a sobering message about the cost of abortion — and the challenges the pro-life movement faces today.

More than 55 million children — 3,000 every day — have lost their lives, and many of these mothers-to-be have been scarred for life. We’ll never know how many Einsteins, Martin Luther Kings, Bill Gates or Steve Jobs were lost and never had a chance to change this world for the better.

DeMint cited Obamacare as a major threat because it forces charities and family businesses to cover abortion-inducing drugs as part of their health plans.

Miller and Begich in Dead Heat According Facebook Modeling Used to Predict Election Outcomes

Thanks to Facebook’s prominence (there are over 128 million active monthly users in the U.S.) it has become the perfect sample pool for researchers conducting large scale studies. Particularly the social media platform has given political strategists a fascinating glimpse on how political campaigns are being perceived in real time, as well as the ability to predict election outcomes with startling accuracy. Campaigns themselves are also starting to better understand this correlation, with 12 percent of campaign communication budgets going to social media in 2012. So what is Facebook so far telling us about the critical 2014 elections?

In a piece published by POLITICO Magazine, Ph.D. candidates Matthew MacWilliams and Edward Erickson, along with research assistant Nicole Berns, took a look at what Facebook reveals about the political changes to come in 2014. These scholars studied three major variables to make their predictions. First, the growth of a candidate’s fan base, measured by the number of “likes” over time on their page. Next they look at the growth of engagement, measured by the shares and comments on the candidates content that users share with their friends. Lastly, they divide these two factors to discover the candidate’s effectiveness in mobilizing voters, by seeing how many of those that “like” the candidate actually engage with others about it.

Based on this formula, the researchers predicted the outcome of four Senate races in 2014, taking place in North Carolina, Alaska, Kentucky and Michigan, and conclude that the Republicans will likely pick up a seat this year…

The big upset could happen in Alaska, where this Facebook model has incumbent Democratic Senator Mark Begich dead even with both of his Republican challengers, Joe Miller and Mead Treadwell.

Without Protecting This Most Fundamental Right, None of the Others Matter

Screen Shot 2014-01-22 at 3.51.46 AMDear Friend of Liberty,

The intolerance and bigotry of the hard political Left has raised its ugly head yet again.

Earlier this week, the Washington Examiner reported: “New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo believes that pro-life activists, along with anti-gay activists and supporters of the Second Amendment, are not welcome in his state.”

Could this happen in Alaska? If Mark Begich and Barack Obama get their way, this brand of left-wing zealotry is just around the corner.

After all, Mr. Begich was the 60th and deciding vote for an Obamacare law that imposes a kind of ideological hegemony that shows no respect for Alaskans whose religious convictions compel them to stand in opposition to abortion or contraception.

Mark Begich has been a rubber stamp for Obama’s radical anti-gun appointees.

And, you guessed it, he’s also been a strong backer of measures like Anchorage Prop. 5 and federal ENDA legislation that would force people of faith to either compromise their religious convictions, or abandon the public square.

It is noteworthy that Wednesday will mark the 41st Anniversary of the Supreme Court’s dreadful Roe v. Wade. In four short decades more than 56 million American lives have been snuffed out by abortion.

Make no mistake about it, Mark Begich strongly supports legal protection for the taking of innocent human life. It’s time for a senator who respects our First Liberty, the Constitutional Right to life!

When I am elected to the United States Senate, I will co-Sponsor Senator Rand Paul’s “Life at Conception Act” to ensure that every Alaskan’s First Liberty is protected, even those too young to speak for themselves.

If you agree that it’s time to stand up for Constitutional liberty, I need your help today.

Thanks for standing with me in the battle for life and liberty!

In the Fight,

Joe Miller, Candidate
United States Senate

Bachmann: Obama’s Legacy Is ‘Establishment of Lawlessness in United States’ (+video)

Because he did not enforce the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and now unilaterally adjusts the Obamacare law as it unfolds, President Barack Obama is sending a signal to liberal federal judges to mirror him and, as a result, the president’s long-term legacy will be “the establishment of lawlessness in the United States,” said Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.).

Bachmann also compared Obama’s actions to those of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi – “whatever he said was law.”

The congresswoman made her remarks during a Jan. 15 “Conversations with Conservatives” meeting at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C. In response to a question about federal judges in several recent cases ruling that state bans against homosexual “marriage” were unconstitutional, Bachmann said this was part of a pattern set by the White House and the U.S. attorney general, which liberal federal judges were copying.

“The president and [Attorney General] Eric Holder were very clear when the president came in,” said Rep. Bachmann. “He said that he believes that the DOMA law [Defense of Marriage Act] was unconstitutional and he wouldn’t enforce it. That’s one example of the lawlessness of this president. He’s violating his obligation under the Constitution to faithfully execute the laws of the land.”

She continued, “He announced to the nation he wasn’t going to faithfully execute the laws of the land. And what’s interesting is that, essentially, you have judges citing an unconstitutional act of the president [ignoring DOMA] as the precedent for their lawless decision for activism.”
