Is George Orwell Working in the White House?

You have to wonder sometimes if one of the multitude of “special advisors” to Barack Obama has a George Orwell fetish. All of us have read hundreds of blog articles and thousands of comments made in passing by co-workers, family, friends and the occasional total stranger that allude to the Obama administration and it’s resemblance to George Orwell’s seminal work, 1984.

There have even been references to Orwell’s 1984 in columns published in the normally slavishly supportive main stream media, which are always easy to identify since the White House normally describes them as “hit pieces.”

Orwellian descriptions of totalitarianism and control of the media via the Ministry of Truth are rampant in the book, but they are becoming more and more obvious in the actual workings of the Obama administration and throughout the Democrat Party.

Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s denial that he ever said that citizen complaints about Obamacare were merely lies and Obama’s assertion that he never drew a “red line.” Or Kathleen Sebelius’s claim that she never said that the sign-up goal for Obamacare was seven million people are perfect examples of how the Democrats are brazenly following the apparent policy of Orwell’s “Party” in 1984 to reverse reality from what it actually was to what they want it to be.

Apparently not content with trying to have life imitate art in the form of 1984, Obama’s minions are now pushing further change under the guise of what they are calling “income inequality.” In common parlance this might also be referred to as income redistribution. In a turn of phrase that even those whose only education has been provided by the unionized teachers in the public school system of the United States, it might also be described as the Robin Hood Maneuver – Rob the Rich and Give (at least some of it) to the Poor.

West Virginia’s “Pro-Life” Governor Vetoes Bill Banning Abortions After 20 Weeks

Democratic Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, who describes himself as pro-life and campaigned as a pro-life candidate, has vetoed a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

West Virginians for Life, the statewide pro-life group, tells LifeNews it is disappointed in Governor Tomblin’s veto of HB 4588, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. Similar bills have been passed in ten other states and Governor Tomblin is the only governor who has vetoed one of these bills.

In his veto message, the Governor claimed that attorneys advised him the bill was unconstitutional. Many cite an Arizona law as proof, however, according to Mary Balch, J,D., National Right to Life Director of State Legislation, “Arizona’s ‘Mother’s Health and Safety Act,’ a law which banned abortion after 20 weeks last menstrual period is not the same as West Virginia’s Pain-Capable Fetus Protection Act.

“West Virginia’s Pain-Capable Fetus Protection Act protects children from abortion beginning at 20 weeks fetal age, based on scientific evidence that by this stage of development the child would experience excruciating pain. Arizona’s law, as its name implies, focused on protecting the health and safety of the mother,” Balch explained.

“The Governor has placed himself in a minority position on this bill,” said West Virginians for Life (WVFL) President Wanda Franz, Ph.D.

Women in Revealing Clothes Deserve to Be Raped, Say Brazilians in New Poll

You want to talk about the real war on women? Look no further than Brazil, where a recent government-sanctioned poll revealed that Brazilian men — and women — believe that if a woman shows off her body she deserves to be raped.

Brazil’s Institute of Applied Economic Research asked 3,810 men and women the question, with 65 percent of respondents saying women who wear “clothing that shows off the body” deserve to be raped.

Keep in mind, 66.5 percent of the respondents were women.

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff took to twitter to say the poll results show that “Brazilian society still has a long way to go to fight violence against women.”

“The results make clear the burden on law and public policy to fight violence against women,” she added.

Obama Talked to Saudi King For More Than Two Hours – But Not About Human Rights

President Obama did not raise human rights concerns during his meeting with Saudi King Abdullah, an administration official confirmed after the two leaders talked for more than two hours.

“The focus of the meeting was strategic and regional topics,” said the official, briefing reporters on background about Friday’s talks at the king’s desert encampment north-west of Riyadh. Asked again specifically whether human rights had come up, the official replied, “No.”

Asked further whether Obama had raised the Saudis’ decision to deny a visa to a Jewish member of the White House press corps wanting to cover the visit, the official, said “I don’t believe it came up in the meeting.”

The official pointed out that national security advisor Susan Rice had brought up the visa denial issue with Saudi officials earlier, and “they certainly know our views and our objection to the way in which that situation was handled.”

Obama’s meeting with Abdullah came a day after the president said he told Pope Francis that “it is central to U.S. foreign policy that we protect the interests of religious minorities around the world.”

‘Putin Rat’ Terrorizes Family

A family in a suburb of Stockholm was briefly terrorized by an enormous rat — not including the tail — that had family members jumping on chairs and left the cat “terrorized for a week.”

The behemoth, dubbed a “rat from hell” by Swedish website The Local, crawled into the family’s kitchen through a hole up from the cellar. Signe Bengtsson was the first family member to spot the beast…

Reached by phone Thursday at their house in Solna, a few kilometers north of Stockholm, Erik Korsas told FoxNews.com he at first didn’t believe his wife’s description of the scurrying critter.

Korsas said his smallest boy had labeled it a “Putin rat,” but not because of any resemblance to the Russian leader.

“He said it because it had invaded our home — and therefore it was a Putin Rat.”

‘Mystery’ Aircraft Reportedly Spotted Flying Over Texas Raises Speculation

It’s difficult to determine, but a group of aviation enthusiasts say they caught a glimpse of a mystery aircraft earlier this month flying slowly across the Amarillo, Texas sky.

“We looked southwest and there they were,” Steve Douglass, a journalist and member of the group, told FoxNews.com. “We thought they were B-2s, but when we studied our pictures, we ruled that out.”

Douglass and his group, armed with cameras and binoculars, met on March 10 at the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport. The airport is a perfect venue because it offers expansive views of Texas’ big sky and a steady stream of military air traffic. On a good day, the group can see various military jets, and even the elusive F-22 Raptor.

It was a clear day, and the group was alerted to three aircraft flying across the southwest skies. Douglass estimated that the planes got within 20 miles of the group and they started taking pictures with their 300mm zoom cameras. They looked at the photos, and saw that one appeared to be a silver-grey B-2 bomber.

The prospects of spotting a B-2 bomber was exciting, and Douglass said he got home to observe his photos when he noticed the aircraft in his picture had a smooth backside. The B-2 bomber has a distinct “W”-shaped back.

Dig at Nazi Camp Reveals Gas Chamber, Mass Graves

The Nazis tore down their notorious Treblinka death camp in 1943 and did their best to hide any physical evidence it ever existed. The strategy mostly worked, but some high-tech archeology is finally revealing the camp’s secrets, reports LiveScience.

British archeologist Caroline Sturdy Colls led a team that conducted the first digs at the site in Poland—Treblinka was actually two separate camps—discovering three previously unidentified mass graves and the apparent location of one of the camp’s two gas chambers.

They found the latter by scanning the ground with lasers to reveal a brick wall and foundation, and Colls says the gas chambers were the camp’s only brick buildings.

Bill Gates Loves Common Core for Your Kids, BUT NOT HIS

By Eric Owens. Billionaire software tycoon Bill Gates has poured millions of dollars into efforts to develop and promote the Common Core State Standards Initiative, a set of K-12 math and language arts curriculum benchmarks and high-stakes standardized tests now being implemented in 46 states.

Strangely enough, though, Common Core isn’t quite good enough for Gates and his wife, Melinda, when it comes to the education of their own three children.

Diane Ravitch, a self-styled education policy iconoclast who tends to oppose Common Core (and charter schools, and much else), noted this irony on her blog earlier this week.

The children of Bill and Melinda Gates – Jennifer, Rory and Phoebe – have attended Lakeside School, Seattle’s most elite, fancypants private school.

Common Core debate likely to heat up again

By Mike Wiser.

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas had just left the stage at the Des Moines Marriott and walked into a gaggle of reporters.

Cruz had been speaking to an assembly of home-school families. He told them he believed in religious freedom and educational choice. With the reporters, he added a finer point.

“I emphatically oppose the Common Core,” he said.

He’s not alone.

In statehouses across the country, legislators are debating laws to delay, or eliminate, parts of the Common Core standards for reasons ranging from curriculum control to suspicion over government data collection.

WATCH: Customers Cheer On Coffee Shop Armed to the Teeth with Gun-Toting Baristas

By Joe Saunders.

A Spokane, Wash., coffee stand is taking a stand of its own against predatory criminals by making sure at least one of its staffers is armed at all times.

“A couple of them bring handguns every day, no matter what shift it is …,” Jitterz Java owner Sara Chapel told local television station KXLY last week. “There is always a gun here now.”

Chapel made the decision after an unknown man, armed with what appeared to be a weapon, tried to enter the coffee stand through its drive-through window on March 16. An employee on duty managed to block the attempt and grab her gun, and the lesson – the store’s third robbery or robbery attempt in less than a month — isn’t being forgotten.

McConnell Just Cut the Legs Right Out From Under House Republicans…

Earlier today we wrote about how Cruz, Lee, Paul, Enzi, and Roberts were all standing together to strip the IMF legislation out of the aid package bill for Ukraine. As I said earlier, the IMF legislation would basically double the contribution of the US to the IMF fund while lessening America’s influence over how that money is spent.

So what does McConnell do? Does he stand with the filibuster effort? No, pushes Republicans to vote for the bill, thus making sure to get Harry Reid his 60 votes to pass the bill to prevent the filibuster led by Cruz and the others.

So now Reid’s Ukraine aid bill containing the IMF legislation has bipartisan support and he will use that to hammer the House to accept his bill.
