The White House’s new website privacy policy, released Friday, identifies phone numbers and street addresses of people who send the president questions on Whitehouse.gov as “public information.”

“Information you choose to share with the White House (directly and via third party sites) may be treated as public information,” according to the new White House policy, which assures that information provided to Whitehouse.gov will not be sold, but does not make the same assurance about information provided on the White House Facebook, Twitter, or Google Plus pages.

On the “Contact the White House” page’s question-and-comment submission form, required fields include first name, last name, email, phone number, and street address with city, state, and postal code.

Princeton Concludes What Kind of Government America Really Has, and It’s Not a Democracy

The news: A new scientific study from Princeton researchers Martin Gilens and Benjamin I. Page has finally put some science behind the recently popular argument that the United States isn’t a democracy any more. And they’ve found that in fact, America is basically an oligarchy.

An oligarchy is a system where power is effectively wielded by a small number of individuals defined by their status called oligarchs. Members of the oligarchy are the rich, the well connected and the politically powerful, as well as particularly well placed individuals in institutions like banking and finance or the military.

For their study, Gilens and Page compiled data from roughly 1,800 different policy initiatives in the years between 1981 and 2002. They then compared those policy changes with the expressed opinion of the United State public. Comparing the preferences of the average American at the 50th percentile of income to what those Americans at the 90th percentile preferred, as well as the opinions of major lobbying or business groups, the researchers found out that the government followed the directives set forth by the latter two much more often.

It’s beyond alarming. As Gilens and Page write, “the preferences of the average American appear to have only a minuscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy.” In other words, their statistics say your opinion literally does not matter.

Abortion Survivor Wows Crowd With Speech on Forgiveness, Value of Human Life

An 18-year old abortion survivor brought a packed Convention for Life in Dublin to its feet with a moving and inspiring testimony on forgiveness and the value of every human life. (Video at bottom).

Josiah Presley, originally from South Korea but now living in Oklahoma, said that when he first found out that his mother had wanted to abort him he was devastated and felt deep hurt and anger towards his birth parents.

However, he said, the power of God’s love meant he realised that he was “important to God and that every child was important to God” and this led him to forgive his parents whom he said he would like to meet some day.

“I wonder if they ever think about me,” he said. “I would like to tell them why I have forgiven them”.

He explained that he may have been one of twins and that the abortionist most likely did not realise one baby had survived the curettage abortion, which has left Josiah with a disabled arm.

The captain of a South Korean ferry carrying 475 passengers that sank on Wednesday, killing 28 and leaving 270 missing, was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of negligence and abandoning people in need — three of whom were found lifeless in the sunken ship by a diver.

Senior prosecutor Yang Jung-jin Yonhap said 68-year-old Lee Joon-seok and the crew members were detained early Saturday, the Associated Press reported.

The captain was arrested amid reports that an inexperienced crew member may have been at the ship’s control when it overturned, and survivors’ claims that the crew did not act swiftly enough to evacuate its mostly high school-student passengers.

Lee faces five charges including negligence of duty and violation of maritime law, according to the Yonhap news agency.

Prosecutors and police said Friday they had asked a court to issue arrest warrants for the captain and two other crewmembers.

Anti-Semitic Fliers in Eastern Ukraine Denounced

U.S. officials Thursday denounced what one called a “grotesque” leaflet ordering Jews in one eastern Ukrainian city to register with a government office, but the Jewish community there dismissed it as a “provocation.”

The fliers were handed out by masked men in front the main synagogue in Donetsk, where pro-Russian protesters have declared a “People’s Republic,” Jewish leaders there said. The document warned the city’s Jews to register and document their property or face deportation, according to a CNN translation of one of the leaflets.

Geoffrey Pyatt, the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, told CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper” that a respected Jewish leader in Ukraine showed him a photograph of one of the leaflets. He called the document “chilling.”
And in Geneva, where diplomats held emergency talks on the Ukrainian crisis, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called the leaflets “grotesque” and “beyond unacceptable.”

But the Jewish community statement said relations between the Jews of Donetsk and their neighbors were amicable, and the self-proclaimed head of the “People’s Republic,” Denis Pushilin, denied any connection to the fliers.

Leaflet Tells Jews to ‘Register’ in East Ukraine

World leaders and Jewish groups condemned a leaflet handed out in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk in which Jews were told to “register” with the pro-Russian militants who have taken over a government office in an attempt to make Ukraine part of Russia, according to Ukrainian and Israeli media.

Jews emerging from a synagogue say they were handed leaflets that ordered the city’s Jews to provide a list of property they own and pay a registration fee “or else have their citizenship revoked, face deportation and see their assets confiscated,” reported Ynet News, Israel’s largest news website, and Ukraine’s Donbass news agency.

Secretary of State John Kerry said the language of the leaflets “is beyond unacceptable” and condemned whomever is responsible.

“In the year 2014, after all of the miles traveled and all of the journey of history, this is not just intolerable — it’s grotesque,” he said. “And any of the people who engage in these kinds of activities — from whatever party or whatever ideology or whatever place they crawl out of — there is no place for that.”

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt called the leaflets “the real deal.” But the man whose name appears on the leaflets, Denis Pushilin, identified as chairman of “Donetsk’s temporary government,” said he was not responsible.

Diplomatic deal struck on Ukraine

By Justin Sink.

Secretary of State John Kerry said the framework hashed out by foreign ministers meeting in Geneva would disarm separatist militants in eastern Ukraine and have them vacate the government buildings, streets and squares they have occupied.

In return, the Ukrainian government has offered amnesty to all pro-Russian militants who lay down their arms, with the exception of those who committed capital crimes.

The Ukrainian government has also “committed to going as far as they can to reach out to opponents” as part of a “comprehensive, inclusive process” ahead of next month’s elections.

That will include consideration of constitutional amendments that could give Ukraine’s Eastern regions greater autonomy.

President Obama expressed optimism that the framework was a positive step, but he acknowledged it was unclear whether separatists on the ground would follow through.

Fox News Poll: Voters say Obama covering up on Benghazi, want Congress to keep investigating

By Dana Blanton.

Most voters think the White House is trying to cover-up what happened in Benghazi and want Congress to continue to investigate the administration’s handling of the attack on the U.S. consulate there that killed four Americans.

That’s according to a Fox News poll released Thursday.

Sixty percent of voters want lawmakers to keep investigating what happened in Benghazi. That’s down from 65 percent who felt that way in November, and a high of 73 percent in early June 2013.

A third opposes Congress continuing to investigate the attack (34 percent).

The 2012 attack took place in Benghazi, Libya on the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Alaska Right to Life Endorses Joe Miller for U.S. Senate

Screen Shot 2014-04-18 at 1.59.45 AMAlaska Right to Life PAC has announced its endorsement of Joe Miller for U.S. Senate.

The Executive Director of Alaska Right to Life Christopher Kurka stated, “The pro-life position Joe Miller takes isn’t merely a common political platitude, but is centered in the core of who he is. Joe will be a champion for the pro-life cause in Washington and is exactly the caliber of man we need representing Alaska in the US Senate. Alaska Right to Life’s Political Action Committee is proud to endorse him.”

Miller responded to the endorsement stating, “I am honored to receive the endorsement of Alaska Right to Life. Government has been given a sacred trust to protect life, especially the lives of the innocent and most vulnerable among us. This trust is recognized in both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.”

Over 56 million babies have been aborted since the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe vs. Wade in 1973. Last year in Alaska alone, approximately fourteen hundred were denied the opportunity to take their first breath and become the people they were created to be. This national tragedy must end.

The words of Thomas Jefferson ring through time: “the God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever.”

“On the first day that I am sworn in as Alaska’s next United States Senator, I will co-sponsor Senator Rand Paul’s Life at Conception Act. Science now matches what faith has taught us for thousands of years: life begins when we are knit together in the womb. Abortion is the moral crisis of our time; and I will not relent in the fight to restore the right upon which all others rest: the right to life,” said Miller.

Alaska Senate Candidate Joe Miller Picks Up Key Endorsement From Pro-Life Group

By Laura Lee Baris.

Alaska Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller picked up a key endorsement Thursday from the Alaska Right to Life PAC. The latest endorsement underscores Alaskan conservatives’ lack of excitement over the 2010 nominee’s two challengers, Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell, and former Natural Resources Commissioner and Attorney General Dan Sullivan.

“The pro-life position Joe Miller takes isn’t merely a common political platitude, but is centered in the core of who he is. Joe will be a champion for the pro-life cause in Washington and is exactly the caliber of man we need representing Alaska in the US Senate. Alaska Right to Life’s Political Action Committee is proud to endorse him,” said Executive Director of Alaska Right to Life, Christopher Kurka.

While Dan Sullivan appears to have a consistent money edge in the Republican primary race, with a recent endorsement from The Club for Growth, Miller has been endorsed by PACs who support issues near and dear to the hearts of the conservative base in Alaska. The Combat Veterans for Congress PAC endorsed Miller in December, and he received the endorsement of the National Association for Gun Rights PAC (NAGR) in March. The NAGR endorsement added to a solid pro-Second Amendment standing – which has become a top priority for conservatives — including the endorsement of the Gun Owners of America. Miller also recieved an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association.

Now, with the endorsement of the key pro-life group, Joe Miller, who many see as an underdog in the Alaska Senate race, has defined himself as the true conservative in the race.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of Alaska Right to Life. Government has been given a sacred trust to protect life, especially the lives of the innocent and most vulnerable among us. This trust is recognized in both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution,” Joe Miller said in a statement.

Sen. Reid Calls Supporters of Nevada Rancher Bundy ‘Domestic Terrorists’

By Fox News.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he believes the supporters who rallied around Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy in his fight against the federal government are “domestic terrorists” and Bundy does not respect his country.

The Las Vegas Journal-Review reported that Reid, D-Nev., made the comments at an event Thursday hosted by the paper called “Hashtags & Headlines.”

Federal land managers backed down in a weekend standoff with Bundy after hundreds of states’ rights protesters, including armed militia members, showed up to protest federal officials seizing his cattle. Some protesters had their guns drawn and pointed toward law enforcement, some of whom were also armed. But ultimately, no shots were fired and the Bureau of Land Management reported that officials left over safety concerns.

Reid had harsh words for these supporters, saying the government cannot stop pursuing the issue.

“They’re nothing more than domestic terrorists,” Reid said, according to the paper. “I repeat: what happened there was domestic terrorism.”

The Bundy Ranch Saga Should Prompt Discussion on the Sale of Federal Land

By Jen Kuznicki.

Cliven Bundy and his family have owned a ranch in Nevada for 140 years. The land he grazes his cattle on has changed from being owned by the federal government, to being restrictively managed by the federal government, to being micromanaged by the federal government, and if environmentalists get their way, he will have no means of survival.

Upon statehood in 1864, Nevada was admitted to the union on equal footing with the original states, however, somewhere between 84% and 86% of the State’s land mass was forever “disclaimed” by the people of the state. It belongs to the federal government.

I’ve read countless articles and references, and as I understand it, Mr. Bundy’s grandfather acquired his family land in the 1880′s and paid for the rights to work additional federal land. Nowhere can I find any outside reference to the ownership by the Bundy’s of more than Mr. Bundy’s own private land except that after decades of working and improving federal land, the Bundy’s might claim a sweat equity stake in the land they have always had their cattle graze upon, along with the fact that public land should be for public use. In addition to deals made with the federal government throughout the 140 year time frame, Mr. Bundy has a very plausible argument in his righteous indignation of the federal micro-managers who are trying to end his livelihood.

It is interesting to note that the American rancher has been pushed around consistently by the federal government under mostly Democrat Presidents. Under FDR, the Taylor Grazing Act was enacted to lessen the stress on federal lands due to over-grazing. I think you and I can figure out that there used to be many more ranchers out doing their thing back in 1934, and more than likely many more cattle. Twelve years later, under Harry Truman, the Bureau of Land Management was born, and BLM went about supposedly charging grazing fees in order to keep the land managed. In 1976, under the feckless Ford administration, environmental law offered more and more restrictions toward the use of the public lands for grazing. During the Clinton administration, the Bundy family stopped paying its money to the federal government because, as I understand it, they felt the feds were not improving the land for the money they sent them. Since then, after over $300,000 in missed grazing fees and something like twice that in trespass fees, the Bundy’s were ordered to remove the cattle or the federal government would remove them for him.

Why?

After Nevada ranch stand-off, emboldened militias ask: where next?

By Jonathon Allen.

Flat on his belly in a sniper position, wearing a baseball cap and a flak jacket, a protester aimed his semi-automatic rifle from the edge of an overpass and waited as a crowd below stood its ground against U.S. federal agents in the Nevada desert.

He was part of a 1,000-strong coalition of armed militia-men, cowboys on horseback, gun rights activists and others who rallied to Cliven Bundy’s Bunkerville ranch, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, in a stand-off with about a dozen agents from the federal Bureau of Land Management.

The rangers had rounded up hundreds of Bundy’s cattle, which had been grazing illegally on federal lands for two decades. Bundy had refused to pay grazing fees, saying he did not recognize the government’s authority over the land, a view that attracted vocal support from some right-wing groups.

Citing public safety, the BLM retreated, suspending its operation and even handing back cattle it had already seized.

No shots were fired during the stand-off, which Bundy’s triumphant supporters swiftly dubbed the “Battle of Bunkerville,” but the government’s decision to withdraw in the face of armed resistance has alarmed some who worry that it has set a dangerous precedent and emboldened militia groups.
