Nancy Pelosi: Civilization ‘In Jeopardy’ If GOP Takes Senate (+video)

On the one hand, California U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi claims that Democrats are not “fear-mongers;” on the other hand, she believes civilization is doomed if Republicans take control of the Senate from Democrats in November.

The former speaker of the House made those dramatic, incongruous statements on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” which aired live from Washington, D.C. Friday.

Maher asked Pelosi about recent polling which shows that the GOP is likely to take over the upper chamber and asked, given gridlock in Washingon, why it matters that Democrats keep control.

“It would be very important for the Democrats to retain control of the Senate,” Pelosi told Maher. “Civilization as we know it today would be in jeopardy if the Republicans win the Senate.”

Democrats currently hold 53 seats in the Senate. Republicans have 45. Two independents caucus with Democrats.

'Armed Patriots': the Private Citizens Out to Secure the U.S. Border

With binoculars in hand, an assault rifle slung over his chest and a Glock pistol on his hip, a man named Will scans the banks of the Rio Grande looking for anyone trying to cross from Mexico into Texas.

Will is a member of the Patriots, a group of heavily armed private citizens who use displays of force to intimidate people attempting to cross the border illegally. Since early summer the Patriots have patrolled an area near Brownsville, Texas.

“If you spot them and shine your light on them, that lets them know that you’re there,” said the 25-year-old construction worker from Indiana who flew to Texas for a stint with the Patriots. “Nine times out of 10, they’re not going to come over.

“Even if they are going to try to cross again, we’re still making it harder for them, and that’s the reason we’re here.”

The Patriots Information Hotline, a networking call center, estimates that 22 groups of “armed patriots” have sprung up along the border from Texas to California this year.

Feds Force Public Schools To Enroll Illegal Immigrant Children With No Medical Screening

Since October 2013, 50,303 “unaccompanied children” from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras have crossed America’s porous Southern border to claim green cards via the immigration courts.

The Obama administration has sent none of these children home. Instead, federal officials have chosen to set aside normal immigration practices and to allow this wave of young illegal immigrants to apply for green cards via asylum applications and to disperse across the country.

With school now in session, these kids have enrolled in public schools nationwide.

In the event that any of these thousands of Central American children are carrying communicable diseases, experts claim, any subsequent health crisis will likely first manifest itself within a public school environment.

In light of widespread American perception that President Barack Obama has failed to adequately respond to national problems such as illegal immigration and the threat of Islamic State terrorists, the commander in chief’s rating for “strong leadership” has reached a new low.

According to an ABC News/Washington Post poll released Tuesday, a majority (56 percent) of Americans disprove of the president’s handling of international affairs. Fifty-two percent reported that Obama has been too cautious in responding to ISIS and 65 percent want more airstrikes on positions held by the terror group in the Middle East.

The killer virus is spreading like wildfire, Liberia’s defense minister said on Tuesday he pleaded for UN assistance. A German Ebola expert tells DW the virus must “burn itself out” in that part of the world. His statement might alarm many people. But Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit of the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg told DW that he and his colleagues are losing hope for Sierra Leone and Liberia, two of the countries worst hit by the recent Ebola epidemic. “The right time to get this epidemic under control in these countries has been missed,” he said. That time was May and June. “Now it is too late.” Schmidt-Chanasit expects the virus will “burn itself out” in this part of the world. With other words: It will more or less infect everybody and half of the population – in total about five million people – could die. Stop the virus from spilling over to other countries. Schmidt-Chanasit knows that it is a hard thing to say. He stresses that he doesn’t want international help to stop. Quite the contrary: He demands “massive help.” For Sierra Leone and Liberia, though, he thinks “it is far from reality to bring enough help there to get a grip on the epidemic.” According to the virologist, the most important thing to do now is to prevent the virus from spreading to other countries, “and to help where it is still possible, in Nigeria and Senegal for example.” Moreover, much more money has to be put into evaluating suitable vaccines, he added.

New study says Ebola very likely to spread internationally – modest risk for US and UK for now

Belgium, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States are the countries projected to have more than a modest risk (<5%) for case exportations through international travel from the most affected countries, according to researchers who modeled the potential spread of EVD. “I would say this is good news at the moment, in the sense that our system should be pretty well equipped to cope with importation events,” senior author Alessandro Vespignani, PhD, Sternberg Distinguished University Professor of Physics at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, told Medscape Medical News in a telephone interview. “Actually, in our country, we should be able to contain it. We do not expect to see a large number of cases.” To estimate EVD spread, Marcelo F.C. Gomes, PhD, from the Laboratory for the Modeling of Biological and Socio-Technical Systems, which Dr. Vespignani directs at Northeastern University, and colleagues analyzed data from the World Health Organization’s Disease Outbreaks News. The researchers used the university’s Global Epidemic and Mobility Model (GLEaM) to divide the world population into geographic census areas defined around transportation hubs. They integrated those data with data from the Socioeconomic Data and Application Center (SEDAC) at Columbia University in New York City and analyzed data from the International Air Transportation Association and Official Airline Guide databases.

Airline transmission: Ebola infected passenger lands in Nigeria – Ebola evacuations to US greater than previously known

DailyPost has just been informed that a South African woman identified as Folswe Elizabeth Maria has just been arrested at the Lagos International Airport after showing signs of the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease. Operatives at the airport arrested the woman when she disembarked from the Air Morok flight. After a quick virus test was conducted on her, report says she showed positive result and was immediately arrested. She was from Casablanca in Morocco. Our Airport source said she was quarantined and taken away almost immediately. –Daily Post

Pope Says World's Many Conflicts Amount to Piecemeal World War III

Photo Credit: ALESSANDRO DI Pope Francis said on Saturday the spate of conflicts around the globe today were effectively a “piecemeal” Third World War, condemning the arms trade and “plotters of terrorism” sowing death and destruction.

“Humanity needs to weep and this is the time to weep,” Francis said in the homily of a Mass during a visit to Italy’s largest war memorial, a large, Fascist-era monument where more than 100,000 soldiers who died in World War One are buried.

The pope began his brief visit to northern Italy by first praying in a nearby, separate cemetery for some 15,000 soldiers from five nations of the Austro-Hungarian empire which were on the losing side of the Great War that broke out 100 years ago.

“War is madness,” he said in his homily before the massive, sloping granite memorial, made of 22 steps on the side of hill with three crosses at the top.

Benghazi Security Contractors: About 25 Americans are Still Alive Because We Broke 'Stand Down' Order

But now five men who helped ward off the terrorists that attacked U.S. diplomatic facilities in Benghazi, Libya two years ago say it’s only because they defied such an order that as many as 25 Americans are alive today.

“There’s quite a few—the soft-skins, we call them, or the non-shooters,” Kris “Tanto” Paronto, one of the security contractors that fateful evening, said in a phone interview on early Monday afternoon. “They’re all still working. I can’t give their names out or give their call signs out. The only ones I can are like me and Oz and Tig who have come out. We’re all on board with the project and we are all a team together, but some want to remain anonymous.

“As far as the numbers, you’ve got—and I’m going to be approximate—but there’s about 25 people that came out there and then there’s however many that left from Tripoli from the State Department when we got there,” Paronto continued. “There’s a lot of them. I haven’t stayed in touch with all of them, and haven’t felt the need to. But a lot of them are staffers for the most part. A lot of them are still working.”

Terrorists who stormed the compound that evening killed U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and Foreign Service Office Sean Smith. As the attack was beginning, Paronto, John “Tig” Tiegen, Mark “Oz” Geist, Jack Silva, Dave “D.B.” Benton, and Tyrone “Rone” Woods—the security team at the CIA Annex—were ready within minutes to head over to a nearby diplomatic compound, where terrorists from Anshar Al-Sharia armed with AK-47s and other powerful weapons had stormed the building. Inside the compound were Smith, Stevens, and five other Americans.

Ted Cruz: Hatred, Bigotry, Opposition to Israel Led to Me Leaving Event (+video)

Cruz, the keynote speaker at the new “In Defense Of Christians” organization’s dinner in Washington DC, had offered the crowd–a number of whom were Christians from the Middle East, including Palestinian Christians–public support for Israel. After doing so, some members of the crowd booed at Cruz, and they persisted until he left the stage, noting their hatred and saying he can’t stand with them if they don’t stand with Israel.

“Tonight, in Washington, should have been a night of unity as we came together for the inaugural event for a group that calls itself ‘In Defense of Christians.’ Instead, it unfortunately deteriorated into a shameful display of bigotry and hatred,” Cruz said in a statement provided to Breitbart News. “When I spoke in strong support of Israel and the Jewish people, who are being persecuted and murdered by the same vicious terrorists who are also slaughtering Christians, many Christians in the audience applauded. But, sadly, a vocal and angry minority of attendees at the conference tried to shout down my expression of solidarity with Israel.”

Obama Could Be Guilty Of Treason According To What Limbaugh Just Said About The Muslim Brotherhood (+video)

Cheney spoke before a group of House Republicans during a caucus meeting Tuesday, Fleming noted, and asserted that Obama “has actually done things that have supported the Muslim Brotherhood.”

Endorsing targeted military action against the terrorist network, Cheney reportedly told the representatives that “our policies have been exactly opposite to where they should be.”

Weighing in on the comments, radio host Rush Limbaugh chimed in Wednesday with his opinion that Cheney was spot on in blaming Obama for facilitating the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood.

“He did,” Limbaugh affirmed. “That’s not conjecture. It’s not theory. He did!”

Back in the 1960s, many Americans paid for doctor and hospital services out of pocket or through modestly priced private insurance. Health care spending was about 6% of the country’s gross domestic product.

Enter President Lyndon B. Johnson and Medicare. He bought millions of votes by giving seniors free health care that they never paid for through payroll taxes during their working years. He also helped lay the foundations for the entitlement state with Medicaid. . .

Today health care spending is more than 17% of GDP. Life-extending treatments are part of the jump, but Germany and Holland spend about 12% and have those. The extra costs in the U.S. are federally mandated giveaways, inefficiencies and abuse — about $850 billion, which is much more than what is spent on defense. . .

Just as Soviet central planning failed to put enough TVs and beef on store shelves, federally managed health care creates long waits to see doctors and lots of opportunities for soft fraud — activities by health care providers that game federal rules — and outright stealing.

More than 100 Teens Swarm Memphis Plaza, 'Knocking Out' Shoppers

A video of the incident has been shared with local news stations in the area and is quickly going viral. It shows a young adult lying still on the ground as others repeatedly kick him and stomp his head. Other are seen being chased or knocked to the ground.
