Officials at Mitchell Primary School are apologizing after a book about a transgender child was read to most of the school’s K-3 students.

“We have a practice of if a topic is considered sensitive, parents should be informed,” superintendent Allyn Hutton told SeaCoastOnline.com.

“In this situation, that didn’t happen. The whole culture at Mitchell School is about teaching tolerance and respect. The people presenting the lesson thought (the book) was one more piece of teaching that lesson.

“In retrospect, we understand that toleration is tolerating people of all opinions,” Hutton said.

Criticism flooded the district after Fox News host Sean Hannity posted about the lesson on his website, prompted by a Mitchell school mother who was angry she wasn’t given advanced warning that teachers were reading students the book “I am Jazz” by Jessica Herthel and Jazz Jennings, the news site reports. Scott Walker Lays Out Pro American Worker Stance on Immigration

scoot walkerWisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, a likely 2016 GOP presidential candidate, pledged to protect American workers from the economic effects, not only of illegal immigration but also of a massive increase in legal immigration.

During an interview with Glenn Beck, Walker became the first declared or potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate to stake out a position on immigration fully in line with that of Senate Judiciary Committee subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest chairman Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL). He also noted that he has been working with Chairman Sessions on the issue to learn more about it.

Walker is now the only potential or declared GOP presidential candidate to discuss the negative effects of a massive increase in legal immigration on American workers:

I knew there were people traveling, coming across the border, but really what you have is much greater than that. What you have is international criminal organizations, the drug cartels aren’t just smuggling drugs—they’re smuggling firearms and smuggling not only humans but trafficking and horrific situations. It’s an issue that’s not just about safety or about national security, it’s about sovereignty. If we had this kind of assault along our water based ports, the federal government would be sending in the navy. And yet there is a very minimal force along our land-based borders, be it New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, or California, and so to me it was clearly far bigger than immigration.

We need to have a much bigger investment from the federal government to secure the border, through not only infrastructure but personnel and certainly technology to do that and to make a major shift. If you don’t do that, there’s much greater issues than just immigration. Folks coming in from potentially ISIS-related elements and others around the world, there’s safety issues from the drugs and drug trafficking and gun trafficking and gun things with regard—but to get to immigration you have got to secure the border, because nothing you do on immigration fundamentally works if you don’t secure that border.

Iranian Prison Guards Threaten to Extend Sentence for U.S. Pastor, Wife Claims

By Fox News. The wife of an American pastor locked up in Iran said prison guards have repeatedly threatened to extend the sentence for her husband, who was detained in 2012 over his Christian faith.

Naghmeh Abedini said her husband, 34-year-old Saeed Abedini, lives in constant fear of having his eight-year sentence increased for allegedly preaching his religion inside the Islamic republic.

“The urgency of getting my husband home has never felt so real,” Naghmeh Abedini told FoxNews.com Monday. “His physical and psychological strength has been greatly weakened throughout his imprisonment. The lack of clean water and good nutrition have taken a toll on Saeed’s physical well-being.”

“Guards have repeatedly told him that the price of his freedom is denying Christ and returning to Islam – and yet, Saeed’s faith in Christ remains strong,” she said.

Abedini, a U.S. citizen and father of two from Idaho, has been held in Iran for two and a half years after being accused of proselytizing in the Islamic republic. The American Center for Law and Justice and Abedini’s family have pleaded with the U.S. and UN officials to secure his release — including a meeting between Naghmeh Abedini and President Obama earlier this year in Idaho that renewed hope for the family. As U.S. Sits Down with Iran, Pastor Saeed Must Be Released

By Jordan Sekulow. American Pastor Saeed Abedini is facing renewed torment and hostility suffering in Iran for his Christian faith. He hears fellow prisoners being executed as he tries to sleep. Iranian authorities refuse to allow him the vital medical treatment he desperately needs. The prison guards threaten and torment him.

There is already a framework for a nuclear agreement and U.S. and Iranian negotiators are about to sit down again to begin finalizing the details, but Pastor Saeed is still not home and the situation is getting worse. Fox News has an updated report on Pastor Saeed’s horrifying condition.

With the United States sitting down with the Iranian delegation again this week, it is essential that our government not forget Pastor Saeed – a U.S. citizen whose been imprisoned in Iran for more than two-and-a-half years. President Obama communicated to Pastor Saeed’s wife and children that bringing Pastor Saeed home was a “top priority.” We urge the Obama Administration to put those words into action. Regardless of the outcome on the nuclear deal, the U.S. government should not leave the table until it has secured the freedom of Pastor Saeed. Let us leave no man behind. New Cali Initiative Bans Transgender Bathroom Switching

A newly-created ballot initiative in California would require all people in government buildings to only use bathrooms assigned to their biological sex, and allow lawsuits against those who refuse to comply.

The new “Personal Privacy Protection Act” is the brainchild of the group Privacy For All, a California organization opposed to recent laws in the state that protect the right of transgender and transsexual individuals to use whatever bathrooms they want. For example, a 2013 law passed by the state legislature guarantees schoolchildren the right to use bathrooms and lockers rooms based on what gender they identify with, even if it doesn’t match their biological sex.

The new initiative, if approved by California voters, would require all people in the state to “use facilities in accordance with their biological sex in all government buildings.” Facilities, in this case, refers to bathrooms, locker rooms, dressing rooms, and showers. Like a recently-proposed law in Kentucky that failed to pass, the law would be enforced by exposing those who enter the “wrong” bathroom to lawsuits from those who feel their privacy was violated. Under the proposed law the minimum damages in such a suit would be $4,000, and could go higher. (Read more from “New Cali Initiative Bans Transgender Bathroom Switching” HERE)

Expert: Obama’s Amnesty ‘Profoundly Unfair’ to 4 Million Legal Immigrants, a New High

AAWhile the administration struggles to move forward with its plan to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants, the list of foreigners trying to get into the United States legally has surged to 4.4 million, over 100,000 more than last year, according to the State Department.

Those on the list either have a family member who is a U.S. citizen or green card holder, sponsoring their entry, or an employer wants them . . .

According to a blog post written on the list by policy expert Jessica Vaughan, of the Center for Immigration Studies, unlike illegals slipping over the border, many of those on the wait list have been there for up to 13 years or more as they go through the proper process to enter the country.

Unlike with illegals, the government regulates who can come into the country legally.

“The waiting lists are needed because of annual limits on the number of immigrants that can be admitted in certain family and employment categories, and because of caps on the number who can come from each country,” she wrote. Rand Paul Keeps Saying That a Secret Scandal Will Wreck Hillary Clinton ‘Soon’ [+video]

In a speech yesterday to the anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul made his third oblique reference to a scandal that—according to him—will grievously wound Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton.

“You ever hear ’em ask Hillary Clinton, this money she’s getting, whether it influences her decisions?” said Paul, referring to media questions about donors to the Clinton family’s charitable organizations. “There’s going to be stuff coming out about the Clinton Foundation and their donations from different companies that get special approval from the Secretary of State. Coming out in the next couple of weeks.”

Paul had debuted this theory on April 7, in the interview he gave Fox News’s Sean Hannity right after his announcement. “She’s in charge of approving business deals as secretary of state,” Paul said of Clinton. “They’re called CFIAs, anything that relates to our security. There’s going to be something coming out in the next few weeks about companies that she approved deals for.”

“That they were against, and then they became for after money went to the foundation?” asked Hannity.

“Significant amounts, over $100 million being given to her foundation coming out in the next two weeks,” said Paul. (Read more from “Rand Paul Keeps Saying That a Secret Scandal Will Wreck Hillary Clinton ‘Soon'” HERE)

The New York Times Can’t Handle Anti-Amnesty Jeff Sessions [+video]

sessions and foreign bornIn Proverbs 29:9, King Solomon observed that “if a wise man goes to court with a fool, the fool rages and scoffs, and there is no peace.” Nowhere is this more evident than with the debate concerning immigration in the year 2015 between Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), and the New York Times.

The political contours of the debate over immigration weren’t always drawn so far to the extreme left as they are today. For example, here is what former Sen. Ted Kennedy said about his immigration bill in 1965:

“First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same … Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset … Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia … In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think.” […]

“The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs.” [Ted Kennedy at Judiciary Committee hearing on Feb. 10, 1965, commenting on the Hart-Celler Act]

As we know, Kennedy lied to the American people because his bill wound up doing exactly what he promised to avoid. But there is a broader lesson here. Even Ted Kennedy felt he needed to vouch for common sense immigration values – measured and gradual immigration, assimilation, and not using immigration policy as a pungent means of fundamentally altering the orientation of the country.

Indeed, there was a time in America when people could debate immigration policy and provide data and logical arguments advocating for slightly less net immigration – and not be called hateful names.

As late as 1993, the current Democrat leader in the Senate, Harry Reid, inveighed against illegal immigration on the Senate floor and introduced a bill that, among other things, reduced the annual flow of legal immigration from 800,000 to 300,000.

Keep in mind that since 1993 the levels of immigration have only increased; we have admitted over 1 million legal immigrants every single year for over a decade. The foreign-born population has doubled since the time when the current Democrat leader felt that immigration levels were already reaching near crisis levels. Immigration levels have quadrupled since the days when Ted Kennedy misled the public about his immigration bill. At Conservative Review, we have detailed an assortment of data showing the enormity of the size of this great wave of immigration and how it is less diverse and assimilation-inducing than at any other time in history.

foreign

According to a recent Census projection, the current record-high level of immigration will skyrocket based on the existing trajectory – under current law (without even increasing levels). The foreign-born population is projected to jump by 85% – from 42 million to 78 million in four decades. By 2060, nearly one in every five Americans will be foreign-born.

future projections by census

Yet, there is a near consensus among both parties of the political class in D.C. to double or triple the existing baseline, in addition to legalizing all of the illegal aliens.

Nobody involved in public policy is advocating zero net immigration, even after this unprecedented wave. Yet, there is one brave senator – like the wise man mentioned in Proverbs – who simply wants to open a dialogue about the effects of this massive wave and the proposals to double it. He wants to raise questions about the effects on societal cohesion, assimilation, wages, welfare, education, and language. Everyone agrees some degree of immigration is vital for a country’s survival, but why can’t we have a rational debate over the numbers, time frame, and type of immigration? Much like any public policy, the devil is in the details.

Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), penned an op-ed in the Washington Post outlining the facts and the arguments – not for ending immigration – but for a slowdown from the protracted and sustained record-high baseline of immigration. The Alabama senator is actually advocating a position that is to the “left” of Harry Reid just one generation ago, especially considering how the arguments for a slowdown have only grown stronger. Indeed, Senator Sessions is not the one who needs to vouch for his views; it is those who are advocating an unprecedented wave of immigration…on top of an existing unprecedented wave of immigration…who need to show their work.

It’s time for a legitimate debate over the levels of immigration and it’s time to elicit the input of the American people, not just the political elites. There might be a case to be made for increased immigration, but the New York Times certainly is not positing it. Lacking any of their own legitimate research to rebut his premises, the New York Times resorted to name calling and ugly charges of racism.

Calling policy opponents racist or anti-immigrant is the last refuge for those who are bankrupt of intellectual arguments and devoid of facts. The political elites might be unanimous in their support for reckless immigration policies that benefit their elite institutions and big business, but the American people aren’t buying it. In poll after poll, a plurality of Americans want a slowdown in immigration. According to Gallup, just 7% of respondents want to increase immigration from its current levels. That 7% must all live inside of the D.C. beltway. (See “The New York Times Can’t Handle Jeff Sessions”, originally posted HERE)

We’re Not Seeing More Police Shootings, Just More News Coverage [+video]

download (1)It feels like every week, a name is added to the list: another man, often black and unarmed, has died at the hands of police.

The headlines make it feel as if the country is experiencing an unprecedented wave of police violence, but experts say that isn’t the case. We’re just seeing more mainstream media coverage, and for a variety of reasons.

Let’s be clear: That’s just each expert’s sense of things. We rely on hunches because real numbers don’t exist, likely because no one thought it important to keep a tally until recently.

Chat with a publisher or editor at one of the country’s African-American newspapers, and she or he can tell you they’ve been covering these cases for a long time . . . .

“What is being exposed nationally is something that’s been troubling us in Philadelphia as African-Americans,” he said. “Yes, we have written about it. We’ve talked about it. This is the African-American experience, and for some reason non-African-Americans don’t believe it.” (Read more from “We’re Not Seeing More Police Shootings, Just More News Coverage” HERE)

Marco Rubio: People “Born With” Sexual Preference

downloadMarco Rubio said he believes that sexual preference is decided at birth, but still believes that states should be able to decide if they want to define marriage as anything other than involving a man and a woman.

“It’s not that I’m against gay marriage. I believe the definition of the institution of marriage should be between one man and one woman,” Rubio said in an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “States have always regulated marriage. And if a state wants to have a different definition, you should petition the state legislature and have a political debate. I don’t think courts should be making that decision.”

“I don’t believe same-sex marriage is a Constitutional right,” Rubio added. “I also don’t believe that your sexual preferences are a choice for the vast and enormous majority of people. In fact…I believe that sexual preference is something that people are born with.”

Rubio sparked a debate on the issue last week after he said in an interview with Fusion’s Jorge Ramos that he would attend the same-sex wedding of a gay family member or staffer even if he would “disagree with a choice they’ve made.”

Rubio sat down for a wide-ranging interview with “Face the Nation” host Bob Schieffer at the Manchester Community College, where he was campaigning. In addition to same-sex marriage, Rubio weighed in on immigration, his potential rivals in the 2016 race, the foreign policy landscape, and climate change. US Warship Heads to Yemen Waters to Thwart Iran From Sending Weapons

The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is steaming toward the waters off Yemen to beef up security and join other American ships that are prepared to intercept any Iranian vessels carrying weapons to the Houthi rebels fighting in Yemen.

Navy officials said Monday that the Roosevelt was moving through the Arabian Sea. The U.S. Navy has been beefing up its presence in the Gulf of Aden and the southern Arabian Sea amid reports that a convoy of about eight Iranian ships is heading toward Yemen and possibly carrying arms for the Houthis. Navy officials said there are about nine U.S. warships in the region, including cruisers and destroyers carrying teams that can board and search other vessels . . .

The Houthis are battling government-backed fighters in an effort to take control of the country. The U.S. has been providing logistical and intelligence support to Saudi Arabia-led coalition launching airstrikes against the Houthis. That air campaign is now in its fourth week.

The U.S. Navy generally conducts consensual boardings of ships when needed, including to combat piracy around Africa and the region. So far, however, U.S. naval personnel have not boarded any Iranian vessels since the Yemen conflict began.
