Philadelphia Man Admits to Cold-Blooded Murder of Police Officer in the ‘Name of Islam’ [+video]

Philadelphia police officer Jesse Hartnett was shot multiple times on Thursday evening by a man who later told police he acted “in the name of Islam” and that “the police defend laws that are contrary to the teaching of the Koran,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross, Jr., said at a Friday press conference.

At the press conference, Ross explained the attack and what he said was the attacker’s professed motive.

“The suspect in question is a 30-year-old male from Yeadon, he has a Philadelphia address as well, I believe,” said Ross. “He has confessed to committing this cowardly act in the name of Islam. According to him, he believes that the police defend laws that are contrary to the teachings of the Koran.” (Read more from “Philadelphia Man Admits to Cold-Blooded Murder of Police Officer in the ‘Name of Islam'” HERE)

‘American Sniper’ Widow Taya Kyle Just Tore Apart Obama’s Gun Plan Piece-By-Piece

Taya Kyle, whose husband, Chris, was the subject of the movie American Sniper and a victim of gun violence, published a lengthy op-ed in opposition to President Obama’s executive actions on gun control.

In a piece entitled, “Gun Control Won’t Protect Us,” posted at CNN.com, the 41-year-old said she has been on both sides of the issue during the course of her life. Kyle said she used to be afraid of guns, but now is a gun owner who is “prepared to defend myself with a firearm, and understand the fear of my freedoms being taken away.”

“Because I have felt, and lived, all of these things, I have spent much time thinking about evil, freedom and not only the world we live in, but the country too,” Kyle writes. “There are many facts and statistics people will use to argue both sides of the gun control issue.”

Kyle points out that violent crime is down significantly during the last 20 years, but due to the high-profile mass shootings of recent years, the public’s fears are up. She observes nearly all the mass shootings have occurred in so-called “gun-free” zones, where the killers know they will likely have the best chance to maximize the number of casualties.

Kyle says there needs to be a better perspective when responding to mass shootings. “If we add up the number of these mass killers over the last decade, how many people are we talking about? Fewer than 40 over the last decade?” she questions. “Do we want to make laws for millions based on the choices of fewer than 40 evildoers?” (Read more from “‘American Sniper’ Widow Taya Kyle Just Tore Apart Obama’s Gun Plan Piece-By-Piece” HERE)

Smoking Gun: Email Suggests Hillary Broke Law

The latest batch of Hillary Clinton emails released by the State Department early Friday contain what may be the smoking gun that forces the Justice Department to charge the former secretary of state with a crime, according to former federal prosecutor Joseph diGenova.

“This is gigantic,” said diGenova. “She caused to be removed a classified marking and then had it transmitted in an unencrypted manner. That is a felony. The removal of the classified marking is a federal crime. It is the same thing to order someone to do it as if she had done it herself.”

On the June 17, 2011, email chain with senior State Department adviser Jake Sullivan, Clinton apparently asked Sullivan to change the marking on classified information so that it is no longer flagged as classified.

Clinton, using her private email server, asks for “the TPs,” apparently a reference to talking points being prepared for her. Sullivan, who is using his official State Department email, responds, “They say they’ve had issues sending secure fax. They’re working on it.” Clinton responds, “If they can’t, turn into nonpaper w[ith] no identifying heading and send nonsecure.”

It’s not clear if Sullivan actually followed through on Clinton’s orders. But if he did, it may expose Clinton to serious legal jeopardy. (Read more from “Smoking Gun: Email Suggests Hillary Broke Law” HERE)

Horrifying: This Is Supposed to Be the Second-Largest Religion in America by 2040

The American Muslim population stands a strong chance of doubling in size by 2050 and becoming the second largest religion by 2040, based on new estimates from the Pew Research Center.

At the moment, Pew believes that there’s approximately 3.3 million Muslims living in the United States. Given the total U.S. population, this means that Muslims currently comprise 1 percent. But by 2050, Pew thinks that Muslims may surge to 8.1 million.

Part of the reason for that surge is due to Muslim immigration, Pew noted, since about 10 percent of all legal immigrants are Muslim. Another is because Muslim families tend to have far more children than the average, which is the case in Europe, as well.

Even before that, however, Islam itself is projected to become the second largest religion in the U.S. by 2040, which is a far greater increase than that expected among Jews and Hindus . . .

A Reuters/Ipsos poll in December showed a certain amount of anxiety exists among Americans regarding the Muslim community. Following the shooting instigated by Muslims in California, which left 14 dead, the poll indicated that only 30 percent of Republicans believe that Muslims are no different than any other community, compared to 60 percent of Democrats. A total of 14.6 percent of Americans are generally fearful of Muslims– a figure that jumped to 34.7 percent when respondents were asked about “a few groups and individuals” in the Muslim community. Here’s Who Voters Believe Will Be the GOP Nominee

Belief among Republicans that Donald Trump will be the next GOP presidential nominee now ties its highest level ever, and among all likely voters, more than ever agree.

The first Rasmussen Reports Trump Change national telephone survey of the new year finds that 74% of Likely Republican Voters think the billionaire businessman is likely to be their nominee in 2016, with 31% who say it is Very Likely. Just 23% disagree, and that includes only 11% who say it is Not At All Likely.

Among all likely voters, 61% now say Trump is likely to be the official Republican presidential candidate, with 24% who think it is Very Likely.

Because of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, this is our first Trump Change survey since mid-December. At that time, 66% of GOP voters said Trump is likely to win the nomination, with 27% who said it is Very Likely. Among all voters, 55% thought Trump is likely to be the nominee, including 21% who felt it is Very Likely.

Overall belief among GOP voters that Trump will be the eventual nominee hit a high of 74% in late October after running in the 50s for most weeks since Rasmussen Reports began the weekly Trump Change feature in mid-August. Following the terrorist attacks in Paris in November, this belief climbed into the 60s. (Read more from “Here’s Who Voters Believe Will Be the GOP Nominee” HERE)

Disclosure: Another 41 Foreign-Born Individuals Snagged on Terror Charges

Following the discovery of a terrorist cell in Texas allegedly operated by an Iraqi who entered the United States as a refugee, the Washington Free Beacon has learned of an additional 41 individuals who have been implicated in terrorist plots in the United States since 2014, bringing the total number of terrorists discovered since that time to 113, according to information provided by Congressional sources.

Since August, however, the Obama administration has stonewalled Congressional efforts to obtain more detailed immigration histories of these individuals, prompting frustration on Capitol Hill and accusation that the administration is covering up these histories to avoid exposing flaws in the U.S. screening process.

The disclosure of these additional 41 individuals linked to terror operations—many already identified as immigrants, others’ immigration histories shrouded in secrecy—has stoked further concerns about flaws in the U.S. screening process and is likely to prompt further congressional inquiry into Obama administration efforts to withhold details about these suspects, sources said.

As the number of legal immigrants connected to terrorism continues to grow, the Obama administration has sought to quash congressional inquiries and rally its allies behind an effort to fund efforts to boost the number of immigrants and refugees from the Middle East.

Many of these immigrants have been caught by authorities planning terrorist attacks on American soil, while others were found to be involved in efforts to provide funding and material to ISIS, according to an internal list of migrant terrorists codified by congressional sources and viewed by the Free Beacon. Ex-Agent: Secret Service Too Cozy With Clinton, Press Interference ‘Dangerous’

The latest case of U.S. Secret Service agents blocking reporters from asking Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton are “dangerous,” and could lead to media being threatened for getting too close to the candidate, according to a long-time former agent.

Dan Bongino, who was on Clinton’s security detail when she ran for the Senate in 2008, told Secrets, “This is dangerous. This is a dangerous development.”

He explained: “It’s dangerous because you have an arm of the federal government now de facto controlling access for a free press to a major presidential candidate. I mean, where does it end? What’s next, do you start threatening people for asking questions?”

Bongino, author of the new book “The Fight, A Secret Service Agent’s Inside Account of Security Failings and the Political Machine,” added, “When you get the guys with guns involved, you start breaching a dangerous red line here. This is a staff function only.”

Clinton’s agents were criticized last year when they roped off reporters covering Clinton’s participation in a parade. (Read more from “Ex-Agent: Secret Service Too Cozy With Clinton, Press Interference ‘Dangerous'” HERE)

Watchdog: Feds Paid Amtrak Worker to Spy on Passengers

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration inappropriately paid an Amtrak employee more than $850,000 over 20 years to provide information on passengers who may be smuggling drugs, according a report from the Justice Department’s Office of Inspector General.

The OIG also released a separate report saying the DEA arranged to pay a government airport screener to act as a confidential source. The screener, however, never provided information of any value to the DEA.

But the OIG’s problem with these arrangements wasn’t that transportation officials were reporting people’s actions to the DEA. Instead, OIG said it made no sense for the DEA to pay these people for information, as they are already required by law to offer it up for free.

“The OIG determined that over a period of 20 years, the DEA paid the Amtrak employee $854,460 as of January 2014 for information that was available at no cost to the government in violation of federal regulations relating to the use of government property, thereby wasting substantial government funds,” the OIG wrote.

The report did find, however, that the DEA went too far at one point by asking the Amtrak employee to gather “specific information.” (Read more from “Watchdog: Feds Paid Amtrak Worker to Spy on Passengers” HERE)

Dow Closes Down Triple Digits as Stocks End One of Worst First Weeks Ever

U.S. stocks closed about 1 percent lower Friday, ending the year’s first trading week with sharp losses as concerns about China and global economic slowdown persisted.

The Dow Jones industrial average and S&P 500 had their worst first five-day performance of a year in history, according to data from Howard Silverblatt, senior index analyst at S&P Dow Jones Indices. The S&P 500 lost $1.05 trillion this week, he said.

The major indexes closed out the week with losses of nearly 6 percent or more, their worst since 2011. The Russell 2000 also had its worst week in more than four years . . .

“I don’t think anyone wants to take on any risk for the weekend. … You just had the worst week in the start of the (year in) market history. Why would you want to go out long?” said Jeremy Klein, chief market strategist at FBN Securities.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed near session lows, down about 167 points, more than giving up opening gains of 137 points. Apple closed half a percent higher but lost nearly 7.9 percent for the week. (Read more from “Dow Closes Down Triple Digits as Stocks End One of Worst First Weeks Ever” HERE)

‘Mission Accomplished’: Mexican President Says El Chapo Caught

Mexican forces escorted notorious drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman out of an armored vehicle and into a helicopter late Friday night following his arrest after months on the run.

Mexican security forces trying to capture notorious drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman in Sinaloa encountered heavy gunfire that led to the deaths of various suspects, the attorney general said . . .

The people linked to the July escape of Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman included two pilots, one of his attorneys and a brother-in-law, the attorney general said. Guzman was arrested Friday . . .

Members of Mexico’s navy caught Guzman in an operation about 4:30 a.m. (6:30 a.m. ET) in the coastal city of Los Mochis in Sinaloa state, a senior law enforcement official in Mexico told CNN.

Several people aligned with Guzman died in the raid, the official said. The Mexican navy put the number of dead at five, with six others arrested. No navy personnel were killed, and only one was injured. (Read more from “‘Mission Accomplished’: Mexican President Says El Chapo Caught” HERE)
