Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Texas) and 50 other House Republicans sent a letter to U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein Thursday requesting that he clarify that the U.N. is not “calling for changes to laws protecting the human rights of unborn children” in a statement the commissioner made calling for wider access to “reproductive health services” in response to the Zika virus affecting several Latin American countries.
The congressmen wrote that they were “troubled to read the United Nations Commission on Human Rights February 5, 2016 press release on the recent spread of the Zika virus and its implications for abortion practices.”
The statement from Zeid’s office emphasized that in light of the Zika outbreak “laws and policies that restrict access to sexual and reproductive health services in contravention of international standards, must be repealed…”
The members wrote that they are “concerned” by what the commissioner’s statement “may suggest.”
“We believe the Zika virus should be a time for thoughtful deliberation as local and national governments determine the best policies to curb the spread of this disease,” they wrote. “It should not be an occasion to exploit a genuine public health crisis to advance a political agenda to overturn laws of many nations protective of life at all stages of development.” (Read more from “GOP Congressmen to UN: Don’t Use Zika to ‘Overturn Laws of Many Nations Protective of Life at All Stages of Development'” HERE)

The US Army is planning to deploy the first laser weapons in 2023, it has been revealed.
Mary J. Miller, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for Research and Technology, told the House Armed Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities ‘I believe we’re very close,’ when asked how close the Army is to developing offensive and defensive directed-energy weapons.
She said the programmes would be extensively tested as the Army wants to understand the lasers’ full capabilities ‘before we offer it to a Soldier’ . . .
‘We have to make sure the lasers work and do the full set of scopes against the threats we project. And those threats include the counter-rockets, counter-artillery and counter-mortar as well as [Unmanned Aerial Vehicle] and cruise missile threats.’
Miller explained that the Army wants to understand the lasers’ full capabilities ‘before we offer it to a Soldier.’ (Read more from “US Army Will Have Laser Weapons by 2023 as Research Bosses Say Killer Technology Is ‘Very Close'” HERE)

There is more than one con man in this race for president.
Most certainly we can say that Trump’s supporters erroneously think he is Jeff Sessions on immigration and a conservative on some other issues, but even most of Rubio’s supporters have no idea how committed their candidate is to open borders. Rubio gets up at every debate and feigns outrage over the border and completely lies about his past. He has even said that his amnesty bill was never designed to pass.
Anyone who fought this issue at the time remembers that Rubio promoted this bill with a presidential campaign-style media battle. The notion that he didn’t fight for open borders is as false as the notion that Rubio was responsible for getting rid of the “risk corridors” bailout in Obamacare. Now the New York Times is reporting that Rubio and Schumer collaborated with Fox News to lie to conservatives about the immigration bill in a full-throttle effort to get the bill passed:
A few weeks after Senator Marco Rubio joined a bipartisan push for an immigration overhaul in 2013, he arrived alongside Senator Chuck Schumer at the executive dining room of News Corporation’s Manhattan headquarters for dinner.
Their mission was to persuade Rupert Murdoch, the owner of the media empire, and Roger Ailes, the chairman and chief executive of its Fox News division, to keep the network’s on-air personalities from savaging the legislation and give it a fighting chance at survival.
Mr. Murdoch, an advocate of immigration reform, and Mr. Ailes, his top lieutenant and the most powerful man in conservative television, agreed at the Jan. 17, 2013, meeting to give the senators some breathing room.
Rubio left no stone unturned in trying to champion Obama’s immigration agenda and register 20 million new Democratic voters at a time when Obama was inviting the newest border crisis.
Unfortunately, the one man who actually fought amnesty is now sandwiched between two con men that refuse to follow the honorable example of Jeb Bush and run on the veracity of their true convictions.
Let’s remember, no candidate will ever run in a primary openly supporting amnesty, lest they suffer the fate of Jeb Bush.
Well, who better than the owner of Fox News himself to reveal to us who he trusts to implement their agenda, the agenda revealed in the New York Times article.
Both "establishment" Republicans and Trump need to cool it and close ranks to fight real enemy. Trump, Rubio, Kasich could all win general.
It comes as no surprise that Murdoch would cheer on Rubio and Kasich. But notice how he added Trump to the list of those he deems acceptable in a general election. Guess who was left off that list? The one man the entire establishment hates and views as an existential threat to their existence: Ted Cruz.
It’s up to conservatives to be discerning as to which candidate will actually remain faithful to the conservative message the day after the primaries are over. Anyone who is tired of the political establishment and its puppet masters should look carefully at the actions of Fox leadership; it won’t be too hard to ascertain whom they really fear.
Pro tip: If the people we are fighting don’t really fear your candidate, they probably have good reason. (For more from the author of “Rubio/Fox News Axis Exposed” please click HERE)
By Randy DeSoto. All five Republican candidates side with the FBI over Apple in the stand off regarding gaining access to San Bernardino terrorist Syed Farook’s iPhone.
At the GOP debate in Houston on Thursday night all the candidates but Donald Trump were asked whether, as president, they would force Apple to comply with a court order to assist the FBI in gaining access to the cell phone.
As reported by Western Journalism, Apple CEO Tim Cook has claimed the FBI wants his company to create a “backdoor” into the phone’s operating system, which he argues would potentially compromise the security of all iPhone users.
The government has responded that it only wants the company to disable the self-destruct software, so investigators can use its tools to ascertain the password to gain access to the phone’s data.
Trump has called for a boycott of Apple until it complies with the court order. “We gotta get to the bottom of [the San Bernardino shooting], but we’re not going to get to the bottom of it unless we use common sense,” Trump said at campaign event last week. “So I like the idea of boycotting Apple until such time as they give that information – I think that’s a great idea.”
His four GOP rivals also stated that Apple should comply with the order. Sen. Marco Rubio noted at Thursday’s GOP debate that the phone did not even belong to Farook, but to the government. “[A]ll they’re asking [Apple] to do is to disable the self-destruct mode or the auto-erase mode on one phone in the entire world. But Apple doesn’t want to do it because they think it hurts their brand,” the senator said. Desperate Towel-Snapping as GOP Candidates Try to Take Down Trump
By Cathleen Decker. Desperation spoke, and loudly, at Thursday’s Republican presidential debate.
Acting as if they had just discovered reams of opposition research that had lain unnoticed, Donald Trump’s biggest challengers, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, knocked into the New York billionaire repeatedly, and he responded in kind.
The exchanges descended for long periods into a biting, interrupting, mocking locker-room-style smackdown, the sound of towel snapping replaced by shrieks from the partisan crowd.
The shock of the debate was not that Rubio and Cruz went after Trump, but that it took them until the end of February, after Trump had notched successive victories, to decide to take him on. The reality, however, is that Trump has rarely been hurt by debates, and it was unclear whether the tag team of the two senators was able to damage him meaningfully at this relatively advanced stage of the campaign. By Julia Hahn. Sen. Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama is warning that the 2016 election could determine whether the Gang of Eight, a group of senators who pushed for allowing greater immigration, runs the White House.
Presidential contender Sen. Marco Rubio was a key member of the Gang. Sessions is emphasizing that powerful forces behind the Gang of Eight are only getting started, and the same special interest coalition is already planning its next push for open borders.
Sessions began his remarks with an effort to correct the record on claims from Senator Rubio about Senator Sen. Ted Cruz.
“Every step of the way Ted Cruz was on my side and fought this legislation all the way through,” Sessions declared. “People need to remember this because this election is going to decide– did the crowd who pushed that bill, are they in the White House? And will they be able to continue their agenda? Or will somebody else be there who will say, ‘No.’”
Sessions explained that despite the American people’s clear repudiation of their plan, the Gang of Eight remains determined to implement their border-opening immigration agenda as soon as they have another chance. “I will say one more time,” Sessions proclaimed, “They are not through. They are determined. They’ve got money, interest groups, power, media that support this agenda and the next president who gets elected is going to determine what kind of immigration system we have.” (Read more from “Jeff Sessions Just Issued a Major Warning About Marco Rubio – People Need to Realize This” HERE)

FLASHBACK: Sean Hannity Supported a ‘Pathway to Citizenship’ Before ‘Gang of 8’ Bill
By Derek Hunter. Talk radio and Fox News host Sean Hannity is one of the biggest opponents of amnesty for illegal immigrants, but that wasn’t always the case.
Hannity, who has anti-immigration candidate Donald Trump on his shows more frequently than any other presidential hopeful and has been a staunch critic of Florida Senator Marco Rubio‘s past on the issue, supported a pathway to full citizenship for illegals in late as 2012 — months before the “Gang of 8” amnesty bill was written and when the New York Times says Rubio “pushed for immigration reform with conservative media.”
On his radio show, Hannity regularly talks of how he’s asked Rubio if his involvement with the “Gang of 8” immigration bill was a mistake, something Rubio won’t directly admit. But Hannity himself supported amnesty in the bill long before then. (Read more from “FLASHBACK: Sean Hannity Supported a ‘Pathway to Citizenship’ Before ‘Gang of 8’ Bill” HERE)

By Greg Richter. Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions endorsed Donald Trump for president on Sunday afternoon just two days before that state participates in the first multi-state primary day.
“Wow, what a crowd this is!” Sessions shouted to a crowd of more than 30,000 in a high school football stadium in Madison, Alabama.
“I told Donald Trump, this isn’t a campaign, this is a movement,” said the four-term Republican, who is one of the leading conservative voices in the Senate. “Look at what’s happening. The American people are not happy with their government. So some say, you know, you just need to let the people calm down a little bit and they’ll forget it and let it all go. Should we forget it? No we should not.”
This year may be the last opportunity to fix illegal immigration, Sessions said.
“You have asked for 30 years, and politicians have promised for 30 years to fix illegal immigration. Have they done it?” he asked. (Read more from “Trump Just Landed yet Another Massive Endorsement” HERE)

Chris Christie Slammed for Donald Trump Endorsement
By Fredreka Schouten. Meg Whitman, the CEO of Hewlett Packard Enterprise and a top supporter of Chris Christie’s failed presidential bid, on Sunday sharply criticized the New Jersey governor’s endorsement of Donald Trump as “an astonishing display of political opportunism.”
“Donald Trump is unfit to be president,” Whitman, who served as Christie’s national finance co-chair, said in a statement to NBC. “He is a dishonest demagogue who plays to our worst fears.” Whitman called on Christie’s donors and supporters to “reject the governor and Donald Trump outright” . . .
Christie’s surprise endorsement Friday of Trump roiled Republican political circles, and the New Jersey governor faced intense questioning Sunday about that decision on ABC’s This Week. Christie acknowledged that he still disagrees with Trump on an array of policy issues, such as whether to overhaul Social Security. It’s easy to forget the cold, dark days of winter, 2013.
The horrific tragedy of Newtown had touched the hearts of the nation, and every news outlet — every one — was blaming the Second Amendment community for what happened there.
GOA was receiving death threats — not only against us, but against our children. Even Fox News was opining that the battle against Bloomberg’s gun control was hopeless, as every news outlet spent every hour of the day predicting that our organization — and the “gun manufacturers’ lobby” [sic] in general — would be absolutely and totally destroyed.
It was in this context that Senator Ted Cruz agreed to lead a team of senators to defeat every word — EVERY WORD — of Bloomberg/Obama gun control.
Working with us, Cruz implemented a brilliant strategy which used the complex rules of parliamentary procedure to send Barack Obama and Harry Reid running with their tails between their legs.
And the Cruz/GOA victory emboldened gun owners to take the Senate away from the anti-gun crazies in 2014 and return it to pro-Second Amendment principles.
Make no mistake: Had Ted Cruz not done what he did, the gun rights community would have been completely demoralized and defeated.
We would have been unable to achieve the electoral victories that we won in 2014, and instead, we would have been fighting desperately to fend off the succession of follow-up gun control measures that Bloomberg and Obama promised.
But that’s not the way history unfolded.
Because of Cruz, the efforts to enact gun registration and gun and magazine bans were stopped in the Senate.
And with Gun Owners of America supporting Cruz’ strategy, the liberal media blasted GOA for helping him defeat gun control in the Senate:
“Democrats Blame ‘Gun Owners of America’ for Gun Control Setback.” — TPM, April 8, 2013
“The group [GOA] has already been successful in both freezing senators, particularly Republicans, who have appeared to be on the fence about supporting bills to expand background checks.” — New York Times, April 3, 2013
“When Sen. Tom Coburn, an Oklahoma Republican, backed away from bipartisan talks to expand background checks earlier this year, he did so after Gun Owners of America and its members flooded the senator’s office with e-mails and phone calls.” –Slate, April 4, 2013
But that’s not all.
Cruz rapidly followed up our victory over gun control by leading the effort to kill Marco Rubio’s anti-gun Gang of Eight amnesty bill.
Cruz did that by arranging to have the Senate-passed bill “blue-slipped” in the House as an unconstitutional Senate-initiated revenue measure.
Furthermore, Cruz put a “hold” on the Senate calendar to prevent Harry Reid from secretly trying to stick the unconstitutional Senate measure onto a minor House-initiated revenue bill.
Had Cruz not implemented our successful strategy, up to 11,000,000 new anti-gun voters would have turned the entire country into an anti-gun “utopia” comparable to California.
Of course, none of this was a surprise to us. Cruz had helped argue the Heller case. And as a result of Cruz’ advocacy and the arguments of other top Second Amendment attorneys, the Supreme Court has now recognized this fundamental truth: The Second Amendment is a God-given individual right applicable to all Americans.
Marco Rubio is a good-hearted articulate young man who, as he gains more experience, could have a great future in the Republican Party.
But his inexperience in negotiating with Senator Chuck Schumer over the Gang of Eight amnesty bill almost cost us EVERYTHING. Had Marco succeeded in giving a path to citizenship for 11,000,000 anti-gun voters, we would have been on a glide-path that ultimately would have made our battle for gun rights hopeless.
Similarly, many of our good-hearted friends have been inspired by Donald Trump’s willingness to stand up to the feckless Republican establishment.
But, if he were to gain the nomination, we just don’t know where Trump would be on the Second Amendment.
In his autobiography, Trump endorsed the semi-auto ban and a longer waiting period on firearms purchases. And, caught unaware by a questioner, he endorsed Chuck Schumer’s plan to take away guns from anyone Barack Obama chose to put on a secret list — which suggests he doesn’t understand some of the seminal issues which face us.
And now Trump is bragging about the “deals he’ll make” specifically with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. That’s REALLY SCARY.
So, in short, that’s why we believe Ted Cruz is the ONLY REAL CHOICE for gun owners.
In head-on-heads, Cruz does well against Hillary Clinton — unlike the incendiary Trump. Thus, he has a better chance of uniting the base and winning the election — rather than going down in a burst of flames.
And, when he arrives at the White House on January 20, the entire wretched “legacy” of Barack Obama will be repealed — on Day 1.
For this reason, Gun Owners of America urges you, in the strongest possible terms, to support Ted Cruz for president.

The State Department turned over 1,600 pages of previously undisclosed documents related to Hillary Clinton and Libya to the House Benghazi committee on Friday, a month after it revealed the existence of the documents in an unrelated court case.
The House Select Committee on Benghazi announced it received the records on Friday, adding that the State Department has yet to fully comply with document requests the committee made nearly a year ago.
“Today the State Department turned over more than 1,600 pages of new documents related to former Secretary Clinton and Libya,” the committee said. “The State [Department] claimed in a January 8th court filing that it only recently discovered these new documents from the Office of the Secretary.”
In January, the State Department disclosed in a court filing that it had recently discovered “thousands” of new documents related to Clinton’s tenure and the Benghazi attack. The filing was in response to a lawsuit by the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch, which has been seeking records from Clinton’s time at the State Department. Just what was that mysterious substance Marco Rubio popped into his mouth during the latest Republican debate on CNN?
While attention was focused on another debater, a video shows Rubio subtly slipping something out of his right pocket and popping it in his mouth . . .
Armchair analysts have suggested every possible pharmaceutical option imaginable (legal or illegal, addictive or otherwise), but, of course, no one will ever know except Rubio himself.
This is not the first time Rubio’s awkwardness on camera has been noted. He often takes heat for his verbal “short circuits” in which he repeats the same phrase over and over, earning him the moniker ‘Marco Roboto.’
Over a series of back-to-back interviews last Friday with ABC, CBS and NBC, Rubio called Donald Trump a “con artist” more than a dozen times. (Read more from “Watch: Rubio Caught Taking ‘Mystery Substance’ at Debate” HERE)
In its fight with the FBI, Apple insists it’s defending the privacy and safety of all iPhone users by resisting government calls to help unlock an extremist’s iPhone. And now other big tech companies such as Google and Facebook are rallying to Apple’s side.
Wait just a minute: Aren’t those the same companies that Apple has previously criticized by lobbing veiled accusations that they exploit your personal information – to sell ads – and effectively endanger your privacy?
Some might argue that Apple’s allies are hypocrites when it comes to privacy, much like the fraternity brothers in “Animal House” who declared: “He can’t do that to our pledges. Only we can do that to our pledges.” (Read more from “Apple’s Tech Allies Oppose the FBI, but Still Want Your Data” HERE)
