Conservatives Impatient With House Leadership on Impeaching IRS Chief

Conservatives’ campaign to impeach IRS Commissioner John Koskinen has yielded hearings but little else. As the congressional calendar slips by, some accuse House Republican leaders of dragging their feet on the issue.

“We’re running out of time” to impeach Koskinen, Rep. Raúl Labrador, R-Idaho, recently told The Daily Signal.

House leadership isn’t serious about impeachment and removal of the IRS chief, Labrador said, adding that he believes House Speaker Paul Ryan and his team probably are “trying to delay it on purpose.”

Conservatives have been angling for Koskinen’s impeachment since last fall. They argue that the nation’s top taxman is unfit for office because of his obstruction of a congressional investigation into how the IRS treated conservative groups that applied for nonprofit tax status.

In October, Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, drew up impeachment articles. Seven months later, Ryan allowed the process to move forward but only after the conservative House Freedom Caucus twisted leadership’s arm on the issue.

The Judiciary Committee invited four scholars to testify June 22 on the constitutional mechanics of impeachment, while Koskinen declined to testify for a second time.

The hearing didn’t shed much light on how the House plans to proceed. The Freedom Caucus, which Labrador helped found, released a statement that afternoon calling for an impeachment vote on the House floor, something leadership has not done.

“Mr. Koskinen is guilty of gross negligence, dereliction of duty, and violating the public trust and therefore meets the legal standard for impeachment of a public official,” the caucus of roughly 40 lawmakers said in the statement.

Chaffetz, who first spearheaded the effort to topple Koskinen, credited leadership for letting the hearing go forward. To keep the impeachment process from stalling, though, the Utah representative led his committee in censuring the tax chief in May.

To the chagrin of Chaffetz, leadership has not scheduled a vote on that measure either.

“Censure and impeachment are directly within [House] control,” Chaffetz told The Daily Signal. “We have no other scapegoat but ourselves. We can moan and groan and cry or we can actually do something. That’s the choice before us.”

Reps. Ken Buck, R-Colo., and Mark Sanford, R-S.C., launched a new effort to end Koskinen’s tenure by emptying his wallet.

The two introduced an amendment to a financial services spending bill to cut the IRS chief’s salary to zero. Because federal law prevents working for free, the duo reasons, the amendment would keep Koskinen from returning to his office.

Whether the measure can gain political traction, or is even constitutional, remains an open question.

Another impeachment avenue exists if all else fails, conservative staffers say. The Freedom Caucus could force an impeachment vote on the floor through a parliamentary procedure known as a “privileged resolution.”

Before the July 22 hearing, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, chairman of the Freedom Caucus, said that he’s focusing on taking things “one step at a time.” But, he noted, the Freedom Caucus “will never rule out anything” when it comes to impeaching Koskinen.

Conservatives’ campaign to impeach Koskinen will have to compete with Democrats’ tactics to force a vote on gun control. With their “sit-in” holding up the House floor, Democrats triggered an early recess before the Fourth of July. They’re promising to renew that effort when Congress returns July 5. As Turkey Attack Unfolds, Cruz Faults Obama for How He Talks About Terrorism

As Sen. Ted Cruz convened a hearing intended as a platform to criticize how President Barack Obama talks about Islamist extremism, news broke of suicide bombers attacking an airport in the capital of America’s NATO ally, Turkey.

While families of the 41 people murdered in Turkey mourned, and world leaders and politicians expressed condolences, there was also a rush to try to define the event, which bore the hallmarks of an operation carried out by the Islamic State terrorist group.

With the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, expanding its influence outside the territory it controls in Syria and Iraq, and inspiring attacks throughout the world, the debate over how to talk about terrorism has become more complex and intense.

To the Obama administration, the Cruz-led hearing in Washington was an example of what it views as a counterproductive focus on semantics that distracts from the mission of defeating terrorism.

But for Cruz, R-Texas, among other critics, the administration’s policy of not using the term “radical Islamic terrorism” underemphasizes the seriousness of the threat and showcases a weak counterterrorism strategy that isn’t stopping massacres like the one in Turkey.

“We cannot combat and defeat radical Islamic terrorism without acknowledging it exists and directing our resources to stopping it,” Cruz said at his Senate Judiciary oversight subcommittee hearing Tuesday.

“And an Orwellian doublethink that seeks to excerpt any reference to it, as the administration did to the president of France, or erase pledges of allegiance to ISIS, as the administration did with the Orlando terrorist, is counterproductive to keeping this country safe.”

Cruz was referring to the FBI’s original decision to issue a transcript of a 911 call from the Orlando nightclub attacker, Omar Mateen, that removed references to ISIS and the group’s leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

The Texas Republican also referenced how the Obama administration handled its communication of remarks by French President Francois Hollande after the Paris terrorist attacks in November.

Though the FBI reversed itself in the Orlando case, and eventually released a complete transcript that included Mateen’s mentions of ISIS, Cruz accuses the Obama administration of making a deliberate effort to “purge” law enforcement and intelligence material to remove references to Islamist terrorism.

Cruz has made the point repeatedly for more than a year. What he views as an overt attempt at political correctness, however, the administration considers to be smart policy intended to not overgeneralize the ISIS threat and legitimize the terrorist group’s extreme interpretation of Islam.

“What exactly would using this label accomplish? What exactly would it change?” Obama said shortly after the Orlando attack. “Would it make ISIL less committed to trying to kill Americans? Would it bring in more allies? Is there a military strategy that is served by this? The answer, is none of the above. Calling a threat by a different name does not make it go away. This is a political distraction.”

Two top Justice Department counterterrorism officials declined invitations to Cruz’s hearing, so Democrats such as Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware were left to speak for them.

“I utterly reject the notion that there is some sort of political correctness preventing us from fighting our enemies,” Coons said.

He noted that the U.S.-led military campaign against ISIS has included more than 13,000 airstrikes and resulted in the recapture of more than half the terrorist group’s territory in Iraq, and nearly a quarter of it in Syria.

“The president has condemned the threat of ISIS and taken decisive action,” Coons said, adding:

We can and must defeat terrorism without sacrificing our constitutional principles. [To] blame over a billion Muslims for the twisted actions of an extremist few only serves to divide Americans, alienate the Muslim world, and legitimize the murderous groups who falsely claim to speak for Islam. This makes us less safe.

Muslim Americans who spoke at Cruz’s hearing were split on how to talk about the Islamist terrorist threat.

Zuhdi Jasser, president of the Arizona-based American Islamic Forum for Democracy, argues his fellow moderate Muslims need to actively define what their faith stands for.

“I would tell you as a Muslim, we demonize Muslims by letting Islamists speak for the religion,” Jasser said:

It is foolhardy to refuse to acknowledge the role of political Islam. A national security policy of refusing to say Islam has a problem is dangerous. Treat us [Muslims] with tough love, hold us accountable, and bigotry will melt away because [critics] will see us as essential in this fight.

Farhana Khera, president and executive director of Muslim Advocates in Oakland, California, countered that the process of radicalization in the age of ISIS is nuanced. She pointed out that the profiles of recent terrorists do not fit a neat category.

“We don’t believe there is somehow a pathway to radicalization,” said Khera, who is Muslim, adding:

We know extremist violence takes many forms, and national security experts say the common threat is vulnerable individuals seeking a sense of purpose. There are some people where ideology is a part of it, but it is not the causation for what causes people to engage in terrorism.

Former Navy SEAL Has a Powerful Message About Hillary Clinton

As elected officials speak in measured tones and file elaborate, in-depth reports to offer insight and analysis about the 2012 attack on the Benghazi compound in Libya that left four Americans dead, a former Navy SEAL cuts right to the heart of the issue as he sees it.

Former Navy SEAL Tej Gill spoke on Breitbart News Daily on Tuesday to unveil the new project of his group, Project War Path: It has started selling T-shirts that read “Hillary Clinton Killed My Friends.”

The slogan first took root on a bumper sticker that has “gone viral in the SEAL community,” said Gill. “So we started making T-shirts, and we want to get the word out there what Hillary Clinton did.”

Clinton was secretary of state and a major architect of U.S. policy toward Libya when insurgents attacked the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. Her role in the attack has been a major focus on the House Select Committee on Benghazi, which released its report Tuesday.

Gill said his conclusion fits the facts of the Benghazi tragedy.

“She literally killed my friends, Ty Woods and Glenn Doherty. I’ve known Ty since 1997 and Glen since 2003. They were both good friends.” he said.

Gill said Clinton let America down before the attack ever took place.

“Her actions led to their deaths. By denying multiple requests for the upgraded security at the outpost, it was attacked. Terrorists just literally pushed the gate open. They flooded that compound in 10 seconds, took it over, and then they got killed because of her. If that consulate would have been hardened like it should have been, none of that would’ve happened,” he said.

Gill was dismissive of the Benghazi panel’s report.

“They talked it up like they were going to ask her some real questions, and it seemed like they basically let her off the hook,” he said. (For more from the author of “Former Navy SEAL Has a Powerful Message About Hillary Clinton” please click HERE)

WON’T YOU PLEASE HELP? We Must All Join Together to Find a Cure for Sudden Islamic Combustion Syndrome (SICS)

Political scientists at The New York Times and Vox are baffled by the thousands of recent incidents of a disease termed Sudden Islamic Combustion Syndrome (or “SICS”).

160628-sics-cure (1)

Voxsplainer and political commentator Ezra M. Klein III recently lobbied Congress to fund a worldwide effort, led by the United Nations, to find the root cause of SICS.

“We have yet to find a root cause or some underlying pattern that would explain why certain individuals suddenly detonate, killing individuals around them, often with oddly shaped pieces of metal that resemble nails and shrapnel,” said Klein.

“It’s imperative that we find a root cause, because there’s no discernible pattern to SICS. There’s no particular ideology, faith, or military cult packaged as a religion that we can tie back to the disease.”

In the mean time, The New York Times and Vox have teamed up to create a charitable foundation and slush fund that a spokesman said will devote a “significant percentage” of its revenue to finding a cure for SICS.

Contacted at her home in Chappaqua, Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton supported the effort to research SICS and also stated that “gun control may be the answer.” (For more from the author of “WON’T YOU PLEASE HELP? General Assembly of Presbyterian Church (USA) Opens With Prayers to Allah

“Allah bless us and bless our families and bless our Lord. Lead us on the straight path – the path of all the prophets: Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad,” and so went the prayer offered up by Wajidi Said, from the Portland Muslim Community, as part of the “first order of business” during the opening plenary session of the 222nd General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). . .

“In the days leading up to this assembly we all know that our nation’s peace has once again been ripped apart by an act of mass violence,” said Heath Rada, moderator of the 221st General Assembly, when introducing [Muslim Wajidi Said].

Beginning [his prayer] in Arabic, Said then switched to English and prayed:

“. . .In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful, let us praise the Lord. The creator of the universe, the most merciful, the most compassionate and the Lord of the universe who has created us and made us into nations and tribes, from male and females that we may know each other, not that we might despise each other, or may despise each other. Incline towards peace and justice and trust in God, for the Lord is one that hears and knows everything and the servants of God, the most compassionate, the most merciful, gracious are those who walk in the earth in humility and when bigots and hateful and Islamaphobes address them, they say peace. Peace be upon them and peace be upon Allah.” (For more from the author of “General Assembly of Presbyterian Church (USA) Opens With Prayers to Allah” please click HERE)

The GOP Screws It Up Again: Makes Big Omission From Benghazi Report

In the 800 or so pages of the draft House Select Committee on Benghazi report, there is no mention of the reasons for the attack, save a critique of falsely blaming it on a video. Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-SC, (B,87%) responded to a question about whether or not the Benghazi compound was being used for covert weapon sales by stating he asked the president but had not gotten an answer as of yet.

We asked questions about covert weapons operations. We made some progress. The lawyers intervened when we were beginning to make a lot of progress. And among the questions I asked the president included that one specifically. I have not heard back from him yet. I have heard from his lawyer and am not holding my breath that I’m going to get an answer to that.

Gowdy continued:

I think it was important because the House asked us to examine policies that lead to the attack. But that is not the focus of our committee.

Gowdy should be given credit for asking the president the question, but he contradicts himself in the reasoning for not digging further. Gowdy said the committee was charged with examining “policies that lead to the attack.” In the next breath he said it was “not the focus of our committee.” In light of the Obama administration blaming the attack on a video, the American people deserve to know the real reason for the attack. The report does not delve into this, only the aftermath.

Back in 2013, Jim Gehraty, writing at National Review, went through what Reuters reported about Benghazi and weapons being supplied to possible jihadists.

Remember my story about the smuggling of shoulder-mounted anti-aircraft missiles in and out of Libya during that country’s civil war? Public reports indicate U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens was working on tracking those missiles when he was attacked and murdered in Benghazi. While the most lurid allegations of U.S. arms smuggling to Libya are not yet proven, the Obama administration did give its blessing to Qatar’s smuggling of arms to the Libyan rebels in 2011 — and later realized that the weapons were ending up in the hands of Islamist militants. The quiet approval of the arms smuggling violated a United Nations arms embargo — and probably ended up exacerbating a problem that would eventually require Stevens to be in that city at that time — when the danger was so considerable.

Andrew McCarthy, also writing at National Review, connected the dots later in August of 2015.

As Obama next called for the ouster of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad and reports surfaced of covert American support for the Syrian “rebels,” arms used by jihadists in Libya were shipped to jihadists in Syria by way of Turkey. Was that why we needed a “diplomatic facility” with a CIA annex in Benghazi, which was a transit point for some of these weapons? Was that why Ambassador Stevens was in Benghazi meeting with Turkey’s ambassador on September 11 despite the obvious peril? The Obama administration refuses to say.

Chairman Gowdy tried to get answers and was stonewalled by the president himself. Americans deserve to know why “4 brave Americans”—as Gowdy called them—died. We now know it wasn’t over a video. Why is the Obama administration not revealing the why, even as they obfuscate the how? (For more from the author of “The One Big Thing Missing From the Benghazi Report” please click HERE)

WATCH: Brexit Architect Gives SCATHING Free Trade Defense Speech at EU

Brexit architect and UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage was enjoying the spotlight at European Parliament Tuesday, as a he told a jeering crowd that he now has had the last laugh. Farage took the moment to preach the benefits of free trade, and to warn the EU of the cost of cutting off trade partnerships with the UK.

“We – between your countries and my country – do an enormous amount of business in goods and services. That trade is mutually beneficial to both of us. That trade matters.”

“If you were to decide to cut off your noses, to spite your faces, and to reject any idea of a sensible trade deal, the consequences would be far worse for you than it would be for us,” Farage told a scoffing crowd of MEPs.

Farage prefaced his argument by getting a rise out of the Parliament: “Now I know that virtually none of you have ever done a proper job in your lives, or worked in business, or worked in trade, or indeed created a job … but let us listen to some simple pragmatic economics.”

Earlier in the floor speech Farage jovially reflected: “Isn’t it funny? You know, when I came here 17 years ago and I said I wanted to lead a campaign to get Britain to leave the EU, you all laughed at me … but I have to say, you’re not laughing now.”

The key question at hand now, according to the Associated Press, is when UK Prime Minister David Cameron will invoke article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty to trigger exit negotiations. In light of this, Farage called for sensibility in the exit proceedings. (For more from the author of “WATCH: Brexit Architect Gives SCATHING Free Trade Defense Speech at EU” please click HERE)

VA Ignored 30 Percent of Text Messages Sent to Suicide Crisis Hotline

The Department of Veterans Affairs’ crisis hot line didn’t answer up to 30 percent of texts from desperate veterans, according to a new government watchdog investigation.

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report Monday, which found that “tests of text messages revealed a potential area of concern.”

The crisis hotline received 13,000 texts in 2014 and 16,000 in 2015. To test whether the VA was actually responding to veterans in serious need, GAO sent a series of test text messages to the hotline. Out of a total of 14 messages sent, four were ignored.

That’s an ignore rate of 28.6 percent.

Of the other 10 texts, eight were answered in two minutes. The other two received answers in just under five minutes.

The VA gave several reasons as to why some messages were ignored, one of which was that there was an incompatibility between the device used to send the message and the VA’s message receiving software. Another possible reason was that there were too many incoming texts at the same time.

Yet, it’s unclear exactly what went wrong and whether the text messages ignored were due to technical errors or a simple failure of staff to respond.

The text messaging service the VA has contracted does not routinely test the system.

“Without routinely testing its text messaging system, or ensuring that its provider tests the system, VA cannot ensure that it is identifying limitations with its text messaging service and resolving them to provide consistent, reliable service to veterans,” the GAO said.

The VA did not dispute this recommendation and wholeheartedly agreed.

The text message GAO report came after a similar report in February, which discovered that nearly two dozen people who called the VA crisis hotline were sent straight to voicemail.

Staff at the time didn’t even know the VA had a voicemail messaging system, and so they did not return the calls of these desperate vets. (For more from the author of “VA Ignored 30 Percent of Text Messages Sent to Suicide Crisis Hotline” please click HERE)

Tim Tebow Leads Prayer on Delta Plane for Man Experiencing Heart Troubles

On Sunday evening, football player Tim Tebow, lead a group prayer on a Delta Airlines flight to Phoenix, Arizona. The story originally surfaced through a Facebook post by fellow passenger, Richard Gotti.

According to Gotti’s post, “An older gentleman began having what appeared to be heart problems, and he went unconscious.” Anyone and everyone tried to help this man, but according to Gotti, there was “shock after shock from the AED machine and still no pulse.”

People from all over were praying for the man struggling with heart problems. Gotti then states that he “observed a guy walking down the aisle. That guy was Tim Tebow.” Tebow met with the family and prayed with them as well as anyone in that section of the plane.

While Delta spokesman Brian Kruse was not at liberty to confirm or deny whether any specific passengers were on the plane he did release a statement saying, “We can’t say enough about the Delta professionals who care for our customers every day and we are grateful to our customers who are so often quick to extend kindness and care to one another.”

Erik Dellenbach of the Tim Tebow Foundation told The Florida Times-Union that Tebow was on the plane and did pray with the family and passengers. The Washington Times also reported that Dellenbach also said Tebow “used a car that had been waiting for him to carry the man’s family to the hospital.” (For more from the author of “Tim Tebow Leads Prayer on Delta Plane for Man Experiencing Heart Troubles” please click HERE)

New ISIS Video Threatens Attacks on Two Western American Cities

San Francisco and Las Vegas are the latest American cities threatened by ISIS in a video released by the terrorist group.

The video, which praises Orlando terrorist Omar Mateen and includes footage of the police response to the June 12 massacre at the Pulse nightclub, shows footage of the Golden Gate Bridge and several other San Francisco landmarks as well as the neon-drenched Las Vegas Strip at night.

The video also includes images of President Barack Obama with blood spattered on the screen, as well as images of Obama with French President Francois Hollande as flames close in on them.

It also includes footage taken by Larossi Abballa during a June 13 attack he made on a French police official. Abballa said he was obeying the directive of ISIS leaders to kill infidels in their homes.

According to The Inquisitr, the voice over with the video is “encouraging more attacks in San Francisco in the same vein as the Pulse incident in Orlando …”

The video also shows footage of the Council on American Islamic Relations, which it accuses of cooperating with the unbelievers.

Last week, in the wake of the Brexit vote, ISIS called for attacks on Brussels and Berlin to further destabilize Europe. Also last week, New York, Washington and Orlando were cited as possible ISIS targets.

The endless threats have many wanting swift retaliation.

“The time for political correctness is over,” wrote Leo Dunson on Conservative Daily Post. “We have to more vigilant during our travels and more observing of our environments. The Obama administration continues to ignore its top level advisers at the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security. ISIS is a serious threat that needs to be met by the full force of the United States Military and our Intelligence Agencies.” (For more from the author of “New ISIS Video Threaten Attacks on Two Western American Cities” please click HERE)
