Alaska’s Catholic Bishops Quiver Before Apostate Murkowski’s Pro-Abortion Jihad

Once again, Alaska’s “Catholic” U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski has given herself over to Planned Parenthood and the Culture of Death that it promotes by her refusal to de-fund the abortion giant from federal hand-outs. Of the approximately sixty million abortions that have been performed when the first states legalized it since the late 60s, through the feminist years of the 70s and 80s until now, Planned Parenthood has accounted for more abortions — into the tens of millions — than any other source.

Planned Parenthood is the first to deny that they are obsessed with abortion, constantly referring to their “other services” such as pap smears and breast cancer tests … yet join with gusto as co-litigants whenever a challenge to “abortion rights” occurs on the state and national levels.

Most people reading this are not Catholic Alaskans, but every one of them have Murkowski as their U.S. Senator. In dealing with political figures who deviate from Catholic teaching, there are supposed to be consequences that instruct the recalcitrant office holders, consequences that can range anywhere from a public rebuke to excommunication. There are, of course, other options in between those parameters, yet none have ever been visited upon any Alaskan Catholic politician.

Indeed, public statements come out from chanceries whenever a favored socialist program is threatened by conservatives. One is reminded of the instant reaction regarding President Trump’s travel ban.

This leaves many prolifers, both Catholic and non-Catholic, in a quandary. “The Catholic Church talks a good game, but does not follow through”, would be one way to characterize it. The faithful who have approached now three different bishops in the Archdiocese of Anchorage over the years have received silence, tut-tut head pats, assurances that behind-the-scenes efforts would be a better way to approach the problem, or admonishment for fomenting divisiveness.

There are other issues that this cavalier treatment by the bishops of Alaska are creating by a tepid response. One would be the salvation of the soul of the offending politician. “Actions have eternal consequences” are homilies that seldom are heard in the “peace-and-justice” themes that dominate Alaskan Catholic parishes, and the only sins discussed seem to be “judgmentalism” and “rigidity”.

Then we have the confusion this creates among the faithful, especially those with a weak catechesis, the favored policy of the chanceries. In my own parish we have had candidates and elected officials serve as lectors, Eucharistic ministers and teachers who were openly in favor of “abortion rights”, or characterized themselves as “pro-choice”. My own children who joined in the picketing of abortionists asked me, in their formative years, how this could be. I told them straightforward:

“Cowardly and weak priests, bishops and nuns”. I believe that my response helped them to understand the challenges inside of their Church now that they are adults.

When I debated Mark Begich in 2008 for the U.S. Senate, I had some vague sense that he was a nominal Catholic, and when he confirmed that he was, I asked him how he could reconcile his aggressive promotion of abortion and Planned Parenthood, in light of some very public statements that had been made by Pope Benedict and the U.S. bishops’ conference. He went into a predictably frosty discourse of how his faith was “personal and private”, and would not allow it to dictate public policy, a response learned at the knee of Mario Cuomo and delivered as a speech at that great “Catholic” institution, Notre Dame.

Indeed, Begich spoke with the calm certitude that he had a free rein. What’s more, he had appeared at Anchorage’s Holy Family Cathedral on the topic of homelessness just before his campaign began.

“Follow the Money” is the sagest advice for understanding corruption. Could it be that the Catholic bishops do not want to lose federal funding for their homeless shelters, hospitals and other social services? According to the Washington Times, over $1.6 billion has been funneled their way in recent years.

Alaska’s Catholic clerics have failed to perform any meaningful gesture, however small or symbolic, to proclaim the truth about allegedly Catholic politicians who support Planned Parenthood’s war on the unborn. If they did, it would constitute a minor miracle that might give a small ray of hope in a culture that has gone mad.

Trump Continues Illegal Obamacare Bailout for Insurers and Congress

When Obama was president, we all shouted with one voice that it was unconstitutional to issue the “cost-sharing” insurance bailout funds without an appropriation from Congress. Yet, much as with the Iran deal and Obama’s amnesty, the Trump administration has once again continued an illegal policy of his predecessor, shelling out the cost-sharing subsidies for the insurance racket even though it is not only bad policy, it’s unconstitutional.

The bailout for insurance companies

Administration officials confirmed with Axios on Wednesday that they will continue paying the ransom to insurance companies known as cost-sharing subsidies. Thanks to the government-created monopoly for the few remaining insurers, along with the crushing regulations, the Obamacare consumer subsidies for premiums are not enough to sugar-coat the price inflation on health insurance plans. And in fact, those subsidies have themselves inflated the cost of the plans. Thus, the Obama administration reimbursed insurers for discounting co-payments and deductibles for low-income enrollees who earn below 250 percent of the poverty line.

The CBO projects that under current policy, this illegal program will cost $130 billion over 10 years. Never mind that UnitedHealth Group, the nation’s largest insurer, saw its profits increase 34 percent in the second quarter of this year.

The problem with this program, aside from inflating prices even further on those who are not subsidized, is that Congress never appropriated any money for such a program. In fact, this act of the Obama administration was so unconstitutional that even the courts gave Republicans a rare victory against the payments in federal court. Judge Rosemary Collyer sided with House Republicans in asserting that the cost-sharing subsidies were appropriated without consent of Congress. But the Trump administration is now overturning one of the few victories we secured in the judiciary.

There is a very profound lesson in health care economics to be learned from this. The insurance companies will always have a seat at the government table, and even if we successfully repealed Obamacare’s regulations and subsidies, they will always have the ability to extort the politicians into giving them more money or face the threat of higher prices. This is why I have proposed a free market health care plan to end-around the insurance cartel by directly addressing the cost of health care and promoting private sharing associations on an equal footing with insurance.

The reality is that government has tilted the entire playing field of health care towards medical insurance companies for over 60 years. The $275 billion tax exclusion for employers to offer pre-tax health insurance was Obamacare before Obamacare. Much as with the ethanol cartel, without this form of preferential treatment from government, insurance companies would never have been able to inflate the price of health care and twist the concept of insurance.

Even if we fail to repeal Obamacare, we should expand the exemption for cost-sharing associations to compete with insurance in a free market. Employers should be given the same tax benefits for offering to pay sharing premiums for their employee’s sharing associations as for traditional “insurance.”

Republicans ran on the promise to end Obamacare and end bailouts; now they are promoting both. If we are going to unconstitutionally spend money for parochial favors, why not hand the same cash to consumer HSAs or health-sharing ministries? The insurance companies lobbied for the very Obamacare regulations that engendered a need for subsidies; now it’s time to let them reap what they sowed and circumvent the need for corporate insurance altogether.

The bailout for Congress

It’s also troubling that the Trump administration used executive powers to bail out insurers but will not use his lawful executive power to end Obama’s order exempting members of Congress from paying the full Obamacare freight.

Under Section 1312(d)(3)(D) of Obamacare, members of Congress were no longer eligible for health subsidies through the Federal Employee Health Benefit Program. They were required, like every other resident of D.C., to purchase a plan on the exchange. And given that their income level is well above the subsidy line, they would have had to pay the full inflated price like the rest of us poor losers. Yet, in 2013, Obama’s Office of Personnel Management (OPM) wrote a rule treating Congress like a small business with less than 50 employees, which, under the D.C. Small Business Exchange, would be eligible for subsidies.

The irony of Congress and its employees being designated as a small business was brought out by the fact that, in 2014, all but 500 of the 12,907 people signed up in the D.C. Small Business Exchange were … from Congress! Subsequently, documents were uncovered via a Judicial Watch FOIA showing that members of Congress falsified applications by stating that the House had only 45 members and 45 staffers, while the Senate had only 45 employees total.

Consequently, while some of us are paying $15,000 a year for a $13,100 deductible, with the prices slated to skyrocket in November, members of Congress are shielded from much of the pain because up to 70 percent of their premiums can be covered.

Congressman Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., has been calling upon the president since January to repeal this exemption. So far … crickets.

Report: ICE Plans MAJOR Gang Crackdown With Nationwide Raids

The Trump administration and immigration agents will conduct a nationwide raid campaign next week to arrest suspected gang members.

An internal administration memo obtained by Reuters indicates that the raids are set to begin on Sunday and continue through Wednesday, targeting, among others, illegal immigrant minors aged 16 and 17.

The Trump administration’s targeting of illegal immigrant minors for suspected gang activity is a reversal of Obama administration policy, which did not arrest minors on suspicion of gang activity and reserved deportation for convicted criminals.

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement that a person can be identified as a gang member if they meet two or more criteria, including having gang tattoos, frequenting an area notorious for gangs and wearing gang apparel,” Reuters reports.

The memo obtained by Reuters was dated June 30. A Department of Homeland Security official confirmed to Reuters Friday that the raids will are still scheduled to take place, though ICE’s plans are subject to change.

President Trump promised to crack down on the violent crimes committed by gangs like MS-13 during his campaign for president. During a speech he delivered in May, the president said MS-13 would be “gone from our streets very soon, believe me.” (For more from the author of “Report: ICE Plans MAJOR Gang Crackdown With Nationwide Raids” please click HERE)

Russian Leader: US Isn’t Strong Enough to Be Perceived as a Threat to Russia

Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya, gave a rare interview to a US outlet that aired [this week]. In speaking to HBO’s “Real Sports,” he denied that gay people are humans, that they exist in his region, and that his government regularly detains or tortures them, despite ample reports to the contrary. . .

Kadyrov, known for his forceful style of speaking, said: “America is not really a strong enough state for us to regard it as an enemy of Russia. We have a strong government and are a nuclear state.

“Even if our government was completely destroyed, our nuclear missiles would be automatically deployed. We will put the whole world on its knees and screw it from behind.”

The New York Times points out that Russia built a system in the 1980s that could do what Kadyrov described, known as the Perimeter System. Essentially, if there were a nuclear attack to destroy the government of Russia — or anything a 1980s-era system would perceive as an attack — an automated system would empty Russia’s missile silos in a counterattack.

Bruce Blair, the former US nuclear officer who broke the story of the Perimeter System for The Times in 1993, told Business Insider that the system works when it detects nuclear explosions. Only a small crew, deep in a bunker, has a hand in the otherwise automated system, according to Blair. Charlie Gard’s Dad, Upon Hearing Another Biased Medical Report, Storms out of Court: “I’m Not F***Ing Listening to This Sh*T Anymore!”

By CNN. The parents of baby Charlie Gard stormed out of a pre-court hearing after a lawyer representing Great Ormond Street Hospital in London broke the news that a new brain scan of the terminally ill baby made for “sad reading,” the UK’s Press Association reported Friday.

After the hospital’s lawyer, Katie Gollop, told a judge what doctors thought of results from new scans of Charlie’s brain, the baby’s mother, Connie Yates, burst into tears, and his father, Chris Gard, yelled “evil,” according to the association . . .

Upon hearing the lawyer’s comments, Yates began to cry and said, “we haven’t even read it.”

Charlie’s father then yelled “evil” and added, “I’m not f****** listening to this biased shit anymore.” (Read more from “Charlie Gard’s Dad, Upon Hearing Another Biased Medical Report, Storms out of Court: “I’m Not F***Ing Listening to This Sh*T Anymore!” HERE)

Judge: Charlie Gard’s Parents Can’t Take Him to America

By CNS News. Charlie Gard’s parents appeared in court again Friday to discuss the next step in his case.

In the course of the hearing, British high court Justice Francis said their son cannot be moved to the United States for treatment without a court order, squashing hope that a move to grant him residency in the U.S. would help him, according to The Independent.

Earlier this week, U.S. Congressional leaders approved a measure to grant Charlie and his parents permanent residency status in an effort to make it easier for him to receive an experimental treatment. Pro-life Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Washington, led the effort; her daughter also was diagnosed with a fatal condition but survived because of an experimental treatment. Christian-Hating, Federally-Funded Southern Poverty Law Center Put on Defensive

The left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center, which has been in the spotlight recently for its practice of designating conservative non-profits as “hate groups,” has gone on defense.

Richard Cohen, the president of SPLC, which has been linked to a domestic terror attack, wrote in a Huffington Post commentary that Christians deserve the designation because they “sow the seeds of hate” . . .

The Family Research Council, wrote Cohen, has a “long track record of using dehumanizing language and outright lies to portray LGBT people as sick, evil, and a danger to children and society. As stated on its website, it opposes the acceptance of homosexuality ‘in the law, in the media, and in the schools.’”

He also renewed his group’s attacks on the conservative Center for Immigration Studies . . .

SPLC sits in judgment of Christians and others, labeling as “haters” those who disagree with its pro-homosexual and open- borders agendas. In fact, SPLC put Dr. Ben Carson in that category before facing a backlash and abruptly backtracking. Plot to Replace Europeans With Refugees Exposed

Millions of migrants mostly from Africa and the Middle East have swarmed Europe in the last three years – the result of what has been explained by world leaders as a war-driven “refugee” crisis.

Yet, a United Nations document, prepared in the year 2000 and rediscovered by WND, reveals the U.N. was already promoting the notion of “replacement migration” in Europe with the support of open-borders non-governmental organizations and “progressive” politicians.

The document – “Replacement Migration: Is It a Solution to Declining and Aging Populations?” – details the plunging birthrates across Europe and identifies a solution: mass immigration.

The 17-year-old document contended mass immigration was necessary to replace the aging populations of developed countries. Without the migration of populations from the developing world, it reasons, economies will suffer because of labor shortages and falling tax revenues . . .

The report specifically targets the U.S., Germany, Britain, France, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Russia as prime candidates for replacement migration. It is not an obscure study, written and then ignored, but a founding piece of the pro-migration agenda pushed by the United Nations, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and open-borders advocates. German Media Failed to Report Refugee Crisis Honestly

An influential German institute has studied thousands of article published by daily newspapers during the refugee crisis. Their conclusion: journalists lost their objectivity and drove a wedge through society.

As hundreds of thousands of refugees arrived in Germany in 2015 and early 2016, daily newspapers took on the role of “public educators” rather than objective critics of public policy, a team of researchers at the Otto Brenner Institute conclude, according to a report in Die Zeit this week.

The researchers, led by former Die Zeit editor Michael Haller, studied thousands of articles published between February 2015 and March 2016 by leading daily newspapers, including Bild, Die Welt, the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

The report, which will be published on Monday, criticizes “the so-called mainstream media” for lining up behind Chancellor Angela Merkel’s open-door refugee policies, and for uncritically taking on “the slogans of the political elite.” (Read more from “German Media Failed to Report Refugee Crisis Honestly” HERE)

Freeeeedom! This All-Out WAR on Obamacare Will Make You Fist-Pump

The House Freedom Caucus has not abandoned the health care fight. In fact, it has declared all-out war on Obamacare.

On Wednesday, the conservative House members filed a motion to force a vote on the 2015 repeal bill the GOP-controlled Congress passed and sent to President Obama.

Congressman Tom Garrett, R-Va., a freshman representative, filed a special rule known as a “discharge petition” to begin the process of forcing a vote.

“Every member of this body elected prior to last year’s election who has an ‘R’ beside their name at some point voted on many of the dozens of occasions on which we passed a repeal,” Garrett told reporters, with many of his caucus colleagues accompanying his side. “Let me be clear on this: It’s not a full repeal and nothing. It’s a full repeal with two years … with a 24-month phase-out to find a replacement.”

“This is a message to House leadership that we support their best efforts and we want to work with them to continue to move the ball forward to do what we all said we wanted to do,” Garrett said.

“This is a message to the Senate that if they act as Leader McConnell has suggested that they act, we have their backs. We will be here. This is a message to the president of the United States that we haven’t abandoned the fight, nor have we relinquished our desire to fight for the promises we made.”

Rep. Garrett went on address the Left’s ad hominem attacks on Republicans.

“We hear about how Republicans ‘don’t care and they want to kill people.’ ‘They don’t care about people. ‘They want to knock people off their plans,” Garrett said.

“In this nation you can choose, in some places, to buy marijuana. You can choose to pay to go bungie jumping. You can choose to go scuba diving. You can buy explosives for the Fourth of July. But, by gosh, you can’t buy a health care plan that doesn’t have maternity or mental health care even if you want to,” Garrett said.

“So we’re about choice, we’re about freedom, and we’re about keeping our word. We’re about helping our leadership do what they say they wanted to do, and we’re about absolutely letting the people at home who are as frustrated as I am, and was, know that there are still some people here who are going to do what they said they would do.”

The repeal legislation Garrett and the other members of the Freedom Caucus want Congress to vote on would repeal most of Obamacare. To force a vote, the discharge petition will require signatures from 218 members of Congress.

Even if there aren’t enough to sign the petition, one benefit is that voters will be able to see which members of Congress support repeal, and which don’t.

“We should put on President Trump’s desk what we put on President Obama’s desk. We should demand no less,” said Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows R-N.C.

This is what it looks like to be a conservative in Congress and fight. (For more from the author of “Freeeeedom! This All-Out WAR on Obamacare Will Make You Fist-Pump” please click HERE)

Murkowski 1 of the 3 Republican Senators Blocking Final Effort to Defund Planned Parenthood

It looks like Planned Parenthood won’t be defunded and Obamacare won’t be repealed thanks to three Republican senators.

Republicans failed to rally enough senators to vote for the Better Care Reconciliation Act, which would repeal and replace Obamacare. Then, Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, announced the Senate would instead only vote on repealing the pro-abortion healthcare law.

The bill repealing Obamacare would also defund Planned Parenthood for one year. Three Republican senators, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Susan Collins of Maine, have all said they’d vote against the bill. This means McConnell doesn’t have the 50 votes needed to debate and then pass the bill.

Capito has a mixed record on abortion, having voted for a few moderate pro-life bills but also to expand research on human embryonic stem cell lines and fund contraception. In 2015, she voted to repeal Obamacare, when it was obvious the then-president would veto the legislation. She said she doesn’t support repealing Obamacare without a replacement.
