More than in any other country, Americans on both sides of the political aisle believe the media does does a poor job covering political issues fairly, according to a blockbuster new survey of media consumption in 38 nations.
What’s more, the Pew Research Center’s study found that supporters of President Trump believe the media is doing a worse job covering politics than the supporters of any of the other international political leaders in countries surveyed.
“Large gaps in ratings of the media emerge between governing party supporters and non-supporters. On the question of whether their news media cover political issues fairly, for example, partisan differences appear in 20 of the 38 countries surveyed. In five countries, the gap is at least 20 percentage points, with the largest by far in the U.S. at 34 percentage points,” said Pew.
The survey found that just 21 percent of Americans supportive of Trump and Republicans believe the media is fair. But it also found that just 55 percent of those who don’t back Trump also believe the media is not fairly covering politics in the U.S. (Read more from “US Media Bias Ranks Worst in the World” HERE)

An Alabama man has been accused of repeatedly sexually molesting a horse after its owner believes she found evidence of his crimes left behind in a barn stall.
Daniel Bennett, 18, of Irvington, is awaiting trial after he allegedly told Mobile County Sheriff’s Office investigators he attempted to molest a horse, AL.com reported.
The owner of the 20-year-old steed told WPMI-TV she found Bennett in the barn Thursday night after her dogs’ barking led her to the scene.
Owner Francine Janes and her husband, who was armed with a gun, reportedly found Bennett hiding in a barn stall . . .
Janes doesn’t believe this is the first time Bennett has inappropriately interacted with her horse. She told investigators she found what she believes to be evidence in Polly’s stall multiple times throughout the month of December. (Read more from “What Is Wrong With the World? The editor of Vermont’s largest newspaper who was fired after a series of tweets about a state proposal to add a third gender option to driver licenses says he voiced the wrong opinion.
Gannett, the owner of the Burlington Free Press, says former editor Denis Finley violated the company’s social media guidelines.
Finley was criticized after tweeting about the possibility of adding a third gender option on driver’s licenses. On Friday, he tweeted: “Awesome! That makes us one step closer to the apocalypse.” (Read more from “Editor Fired for ‘Wrong Opinion’ on 3rd Gender Choice on Licenses” HERE)

In bluntly vulgar language, President Donald Trump questioned Thursday why the U.S. would accept more immigrants from Haiti and “shithole countries” in Africa rather than places like Norway, as he rejected a bipartisan immigration deal, according to people briefed on the extraordinary Oval Office conversation.
Trump’s contemptuous description of an entire continent startled lawmakers in the meeting and immediately revived charges that the president is racist. The White House did not deny his remark but issued a statement saying Trump supports immigration policies that welcome “those who can contribute to our society.”
Trump’s comments came as two senators presented details of a bipartisan compromise that would extend protections against deportation for hundreds of thousands of young immigrants — and also strengthen border protections, as Trump has insisted. During the contentious 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton was fuming that then-FBI Director James Comey had closed and then re-opened the investigation into her emails.
So what’s a Clinton to do when the FBI won’t get off her tail and is threatening to derail her coveted White House bid?
Hire an ex-spy to report unverified accusations and salacious personal dirt on her Republican opponent, Donald Trump.
Have that ex-spy pass the scandalous dossier off to the FBI, which is suspected of using it to obtain a warrant to spy on Trump’s campaign. (The FBI launched a probe of Trump a month after it received the dossier.)
Then, just as Comey re-opens the Clinton email probe in late October, the Clinton-funded ex-spy calls the FBI about its investigation of Clinton, and he claims the probe is politically motivated.

A defense attorney in a Louisiana murder trial admitted to the jury that his client was guilty in an attempt to avoid the death penalty – even though his client told him not to do that.
But the strategy backfired, and the jury returned a guilty verdict and the death sentence.
Now the U.S. Supreme Court is facing the question of whether the defendant deserves a new trial because the lawyer disobeyed the client’s instructions.
The case of Robert McCoy, profiled at Scotusblog, developed in 2011, when he was tried on three counts of first-degree murder for the 2008 shootings of Christine and Willie Young, and Gregory Colston.
The Youngs were the mother and stepfather of McCoy’s estranged wife, Yolando, and Colston was her son. (Read more from “Whoops! Defense Attorney Admits Client’s Guilt” HERE)
Chinese authorities demolished the $2.6 million building of a 50,000-member evangelical congregation in the country’s northern Shanxi province.
The order to destroy the Golden Lampstand Church in the city of Linfen apparently came from China’s top officials instead of the less-powerful local authorities, according to the Christian organization China Aid.
The group explained that the communist country’s notorious military police, which carried out the demolition Jan. 9, has been under the direct control of the central government since the head of the public security bureau was arrested last year.
It’s the second large church building to be demolished in the province in the past month.
People’s Armed Police forces used excavators and dynamite to destroy the building in Linfen, which had been financed by the congregation. (Read more from “Cops Destroy Evangelical Megachurch” HERE)
Walmart is raising starting wages for hourly employees to $11 and offering a one-time cash bonus of up to $1,000, the company said Thursday.
The retailer also said it was expanding maternity and parental-leave benefits, as well as creating a new benefit to assist with adoption expenses . . .
Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said the changes were a direct result of the new tax law.
“We are early in the stages of assessing the opportunities tax reform creates for us to invest in our customers and associates and to further strengthen our business, all of which should benefit our shareholders,” McMillon said in a statement. “However, some guiding themes are clear and consistent with how we’ve been investing — lower prices for customers, better wages and training for associates and investments in the future of our company, including in technology” . . .
The cash bonus will go to employees who don’t benefit from the new wage increases — meaning they are already paid more than $11 an hour. It will range from $200 to $1,000 depending on workers’ length of employment with Walmart. (Read more from “Walmart Gives Workers Pay Raise, Here’s Why” HERE)
Some folks are just lucky. This weekend, 50 Republican voters will choose a state senator for a district of roughly 40,000 people. And if you live in the Mat-Su, you could be one of the 50 just by showing up.
An unusual state law, and the resignation of two Alaskan legislators over the past couple of weeks means that small groups of voters will get the chance to elect not one, but two new legislators this month.
If you want to get in on the action, you first need to check which house district you live in here. If you live in House District 10, congratulations on being one of the lucky ones. Simply by registering for the District 10 meeting this Saturday, you will be able to play a part in selecting your next senator. I will be there. If you come, please find me on Saturday and say hello.
The process of replacing a senator can be a bit technical, but the general concept is fairly simple: Whenever a legislator leaves office before the end of their term, the local members of their party select 3 or 4 names to send to the governor, and the governor chooses one of them to be a legislator until the next election.
With the resignation of Senator Mike Dunleavy earlier this week, Republican voters in District 10 will meet this Saturday to choose up to 30 people who will get together on Monday night to choose names to submit to the governor. You can find information about Saturday’s meeting at the link above, or by contacting me here.
As the legislator for District 10, I will be able to vote on the names automatically. However, the other 30 people will all be elected this Saturday. Normally, those 30 people would already have been chosen far in advance. But in a strange quirk of fate, the election was already scheduled to take place this Saturday and their very first official act on Monday will be voting on who will step in to serve as their next state senator until this time next year.
Come join us this Saturday to take part in an historic event in Alaska history. And if you are currently out of state or can’t physically make it to the meeting, there will even be a way for you to cast your vote by phone. Lunch will be provided for free with your registration fee of only $10.
As it happens, most of the 30 positions have been sitting vacant for the past several years due to lack of interest. If you show up on Saturday, you will have an opportunity to take part in the process, and if you would like to fill one of the 30 positions, your chances of being able to do so are good, quite good in fact.
What can I say? Some folks are just lucky.

By WND. A shocking video released by James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas captures Twitter employees expressing their willingness to use their access to President Trump’s account to bring down the nation’s commander-in-chief.
Employee Clay Haynes, who has worked at the company since 2016, according to his LinkedIn profile, spoke to an undercover journalist from Project Veritas on Jan. 3. Haynes said the company would be “more than happy to help the DOJ with their little investigation.”
Haynes, a self-declared “bleeding-heart liberal,” also outlined specific ways the company could help take down the president, including providing every single tweet Trump has made, even those that have been deleted, as well as any direct messages . . .
Haynes openly declared his desire to end the Trump administration.
“He’s dangerous, I don’t like him and he’s a terrible human being and I want to get rid of him,” Haynes states in the video. (Read more from “Shock Video: Twitter Employee Offers Eye-Popping Intel in Trump Take-Down Plot” HERE)

Twitter Responds to Project Veritas Video of Employee Talking About Trump’s Account
By Diana Stancy Correll. Twitter has distanced itself from comments by an employee about providing the Justice Department with President Trump’s tweets and direct messages which were caught on video and published by Project Veritas.
“The individual depicted in this video was speaking in a personal capacity and does not represent or speak for Twitter,” Twitter told International Business Times. “Twitter only responds to valid legal requests, and does not share any user information with law enforcement without such a request.”
“We deplore the deceptive and underhanded tactics by which this footage was obtained and selectively edited to fit a pre-determined narrative,” Twitter’s spokesperson said. “Twitter is committed to enforcing our rules without bias and empowering every voice on our platform, in accordance with the Twitter Rules.”
Project Veritas, a conservative group that attempts to expose media bias, released a video featuring a Twitter senior network security engineer, Clay Haynes, in a meeting. Haynes can be heard saying that Twitter is “more than happy to help the Department of Justice in their little investigation” by giving them “every single tweet that [Trump] has posted, even the ones he’s deleted. Any direct messages, any mentions.”
Trump’s campaign is being looked at by special counsel Robert Mueller, who was appointed by the Justice Department, for possible collusion with the Russians during the 2016 campaign. (Read more from “Twitter Responds to Project Veritas Video of Employee Talking About Trump’s Account” HERE)
