The Reckless Spending That Taxpayers Let Congress Get Away With

There are new Congressional Budget Office numbers out on the national debt, and America’s fiscal future is looking bleaker than ever. According to a new estimate, we’ll add $12 trillion to the total over the next decade, which CBO director Keith Hall calls “unsustainable.”

My colleague Chris Pandolfo is right: A driving force behind this problem is public apathy about it: “Numbers and statistics are boring. They don’t go viral. Celebrities don’t talk about them, and numbers as big as a trillion are impossible to wrap our minds around.”

But this is only half of the equation. The other side is that Washington really likes spending, and both major parties are guilty of it. As Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., and CR’s Daniel’s Horowitz have pointed out, the problem is more about spending than about revenue supposedly reduced by GOP tax cuts.

Each party, of course, gets its spending fix through different means. Whereas Democrats like burgeoning entitlement programs but don’t like the idea of reforming them and subsidies for green energy products that aren’t yet economically viable, Republicans like market-distorting farm subsidies and are usually averse to anything that might somehow reform or reduce defense spending. (Meanwhile, the Pentagon failed its first-ever audit back in November.)

There’s also widespread hesitation to do anything to meaningfully reform Social Security and Medicare, both of which are hurtling towards insolvency at faster rates than predicted.

Then you have emergency spending, which falls more along geographical lines than ideological ones. States in disaster-prone areas surely can’t be expected to put money aside to address the natural disasters than naturally occur there. The preferred Swamp method to address this is through massive emergency spending bills with even less oversight and more expedience than regular spending bills.

Of course, there’s all the odd, wasteful things like federal funding to study the sex habits of quails on cocaine, or $18 million to prop up Egypt’s tourism industry, or $200,000 to put on plays in Afghanistan. Seriously, if you haven’t read the 2018 Waste Report put out by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., you’re missing out. These are smaller than the bigger-ticket items above, but the sheer number of spending programs is a reminder of just how vast and complex the administrative state has gotten. That’s yet another front of the debt fight.

And all this is assisted by the mistaken cultural assumption that attention to a specific issue is best measured in the amount of taxpayer money dedicated to it. But when you have a hammer, the old saying goes, every problem looks like a nail. There are indeed a lot of misidentified nails in the D.C. Swamp. Veto Override? House Republican Suggests Congress Will Overrule Trump on Another Shutdown

The government will partially shut down again if President Trump and Congress cannot come to deal on border security funding by February 15. But it may not come to that if Republicans in Congress decide keeping government open is more important than fighting for Trump’s position on a border wall.

Some Republicans are there already. Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, told Politico that if the bipartisan committees in the House and Senate put forward a border security deal that members of both parties could support, it may have the votes to override a presidential veto.

“I think the committee will come up with a deal … If they come up with something that isn’t crazy, I think it’ll have enough votes to override a veto in the House and Senate,” Simpson said. “Because we’ve all learned, hopefully, that shutdowns don’t work, and they’re stupid.”

“Shutdowns don’t work” is a sentiment shared by Senate Republicans who also spoke to Politico, several of whom are raising concerns about shutting down the government again.

“I don’t think we want to face another shutdown. And I certainly don’t think we want to have emergency action taken. So the president and Congress will have to come together,” said Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah. “It goes almost without saying that shutdowns are a very bad idea. And we should not use them as a political weapon.”

Romney was one of six Senate Republicans who voted to open the government with out wall funding, supporting the Nancy Pelosi bill. With Trump’s polling at the lowest it’s ever been and the bad media coverage from the shutdown, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Congress has enough votes to override a Trump veto.

President Trump hasn’t vetoed any bills as president. He may want to avoid the issue altogether, bypassing Congress by declaring a national emergency on the border and repurposing military funding to build the wall. Another option Trump might consider is using his statutory authority under Title 10 of U.S. code to build fencing and infrastructure along drug corridors on the border. Is There a ‘Crisis’ at the Border? This Border Patrol Agent’s Answer Stuns Reporter

By The Blaze. A CBS News reporter appeared to be stunned when a Border Patrol agent told her that the crisis at the border was the worst that he has seen in decades.

Custom & Border Patrol agent Fernando Grijalva told Mireya Villarreal what he had seen at the border between the United States and Mexico in the state of Arizona. . .

“Let me put it this way, I’ve seen six different presidents in the time that I’ve been with the Border Patrol, and this is the worst crisis that I’ve seen,” he explained.

“You actually will use that word, ‘crisis’?” she asked.

“Yes,” he responded. (Read more from “Is There a ‘Crisis’ at the Border? This Border Patrol Agent’s Answer Stuns Reporter” HERE)

Donald Trump Says He Would Be OK With Second Government Shutdown If Border Wall Doesn’t Get Funding

By Inquisitr. On Sunday morning, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney told reporters that Donald Trump is willing to undergo a second government shutdown should Congress refuse to fund his border wall. According to the Associated Press, should an agreement not be reached, the shutdown will resume on February 15.

Mulvaney spoke to both Face the Nation on CBS and Fox News Sunday regarding the very real possibility that a second government shutdown might be on the horizon. If that occurs, all the government agencies that have just been reopened will once again be shut down — leaving a lot of federal workers scrambling to survive without a paycheck.

“What he wants to do is fix this the way that things are supposed to get fixed with our government which is through legislation,” Mulvaney said during an interview. . .

After an unprecedented 35-day federal shutdown that left 800,000 federal employees without work, Trump gave in and agreed to reopen the government — without any funding agreed in for his $5.7 billion border wall. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly said Congress will not finance a border wall or barrier wall, calling the move “immoral.” (Read more from “Donald Trump Says He Would Be OK With Second Government Shutdown If Border Wall Doesn’t Get Funding” HERE)

Still Want to Boycott Israel? Israeli Scientists Find Cure for Cancer

For all the Israel-haters out there, they’d better hope that that Israelis are forgiving if they are stricken with cancer, because if a new report out of Israel turns out to be true, scientists in the Jewish state have discovered a cure. And not just a cure for certain forms of cancer, but a complete cure for the deadly disease.

According to Dan Aridor, chairman of the board of Accelerated Evolution Biotechnologies Ltd. (AEBi) and CEO Dr. Ilan Morad, their treatment will not need time for the body to acculturate to it before it works. Aridor stated, “We believe we will offer in a year’s time a complete cure for cancer. … Our cancer cure will be effective from day one … and will have no or minimal side-effects at a much lower cost than most other treatments on the market. Our solution will be both generic and personal.”

As the Jerusalem Post reports, “An estimated 18.1 million new cancer cases are diagnosed worldwide each year, according to reports by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Further, every sixth death in the world is due to cancer, making it the second leading cause of death (second only to cardiovascular disease).”

The treatment is called MuTaTo (multi-target toxin), and works much like antibiotics do in targeting bacteria. MuTaTo is based on SoAP technology, which works by finding, binding and removing bacteria by utilizing bacteriophage-derived proteins. Bacteriophages are viruses that infect bacteria.

MuTaTo inserts DNA coding for a protein into a bacteriophage. Once inside, the protein shows up on the phage’s surface, making it apparent to researchers who can use the phages to find interactions with other proteins, DNA sequences and small molecules. Unlike 2018 Nobel Prize-winning scientists George Smith and Gregory Winter, who used phage display to evolve new proteins or antibodies, the Israelis are producing peptides, which Morad says are better equipped for the job because they are smaller, less expensive and less difficult to manage. How to Corrupt Children for Fun and Profit

I went to an out-of-state sporting event recently and was surprised to see that a youth dance-and-drumming troupe from my city, just a couple of blocks from our house, preceded us there. The boys drummed, and the girls danced.

At halftime, they marched from the lobby onto the basketball court. They had remarkable stage presence. They knew how to hold an audience’s attention, starting with the throbbing, thunderous pulse of the drums. The girls strode in with eye contact from heads held high, a procession rather than a mere entrance.

Then, at center court, the dancing began. It was quite skillful, even acrobatic. An adult man crouched at courtside holding up fingers and gesticulating to direct the girls. They appeared to range from six or seven years of age to mid-teens.

As the pace quickened and the percussion loudened, the girls’ dancing changed. By the time the drumming climaxed, their dance was vulgar and salacious.

If the crouching man had posted a video of these children’s dance online, instead of presenting them live in a college gymnasium, he might have had legal difficulties. If some of these girls were adults, including some who appeared to be fifth-graders, they would have all the requisite exotic dance moves for employment in an Atlanta strip club.

The audience was mostly middle-aged and older small-town Midwestern folks. They were too polite not to applaud the youngsters who had obviously worked so hard, and traveled so far to entertain them. But they must have thought to themselves that something has gone terribly wrong in America.

There are a lot of good people investing themselves in the encouragement and moral formation of children and adolescents in this country, but we have also trusted some of the wrong people with our children.

Whoever corrupted those little girls should experience strong community disapproval, maybe criminal prosecution. If I were the parent or grandparent of one of those girls, I don’t think I’d be waiting for the prosecutors to take action.

But how much better it would be to proactively intervene and prevent children’s victimization in the first place. We’ve got to be more suspicious, and more assertive. Don’t ever let glib, articulate predators’ allies talk you out of protecting your youngsters. You are under no obligation to accommodate their access to your children.

Child corruption is big business, of course. It’s institutionalized in the music and television industries, and the watchdogs have been compromised.

The Gannett media chain, that recently took over the daily newspaper in my town, has starkly misrepresented public opinion about indecency, and there’s no reason to believe that will ever change. The mainstream media rarely take indecency seriously, except when it serves as a criticism of Donald Trump.

There is no appeasing these people. They respect no boundaries. There is no wholesome refuge from them that they will voluntarily accord us and our families.

Currently, my library is funding and actively collaborating with the San Francisco-based “Drag Queen Story Hour,” in which dolled-up transvestites are invited to read stories to small children.

This travesty has its own national network that solicits contributions by PayPal to San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City offices. ” Drag Queen Story Hour is just what it sounds like,” according to its website, “drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools and bookstores.”

The Gannett machine in our town justified the Story Hour with “science” that indicates people with at least one LGBTQ acquaintance are more likely to support gay marriage. “Acceptance,” according to Gannett, is a virtue worthy of public funding and the exposure of small children to transvestites.

But is it? If so, perhaps we should denounce Martin Luther King for his lack of acceptance of Jim Crow. Perhaps the French Resistance was regrettable for its narrow-minded failure to accept the Nazi occupation of their country.

Come on, Gannett, acceptance is a neutral term and its virtue depends on the merits of the thing being accepted. And to accept the Drag Queen Story Hour’s access to our community’s smallest children would be cavalier, if not cowardly.

Gannett claims the benefits of reading to children justify the library’s Drag Queen event. They write that there is no sexual subject matter in the children’s books that are read by the transvestites.

But the drag queens’ own website tells a different story. “Drag Queen Story Hour captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models,” according to the website. “In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish, where dress-up is real.”

This is OK with the Public Library Association (PLA), which called the Drag Queen Story Hour a “remarkable and important initiative that promotes acceptance and inclusivity.”

The PLA presented a seminar, entitled “Reading Fabulously,” at its annual convention last year listing “best practices” for setting up a Drag Queen Story Hour, and “which titles best support a program for young people exploring gender fluidity.”

The PLA seminar description promised that attendees would “be prepared with strategies and language to explain and, if necessary, defend groundbreaking and potentially controversial programming.”

Will it be necessary? Will we ever dig in our heels against the child corrupters? Drag Queen Story Hour may be a good barometer on American parental apathy: if we don’t mobilize against this shameful campaign by depraved transvestites, public libraries, Gannett and all the other crouching men to corrode our children’s moral character before they can even read, our abandonment of the children may be complete.

California College Drops Pledge of Allegiance Over ‘White Nationalism’

The board of trustees president for a California community college ended the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance at meetings, claiming the ritual was “steeped in expressions of nativism and white nationalism.”

Santa Barbara City College Board of Trustees president Robert Miller explained his decision in an email to Celeste Barber, a former adjunct instructor. The emails were obtained by Campus Reform.

“I assume full responsibility for the decision not to recite the Pledge of Allegiance,” Miller wrote. “I agree with you that the Pledge is an example of good writing. It well demonstrates the principle that fewer, well-chosen words are often the most effective. I also applaud and honor the patriotism that motivates your request and share your reverence for the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. . .

Miller claimed in his email to Barber that the pledge carried with it some negative connotations that he wanted the school to get away from.

“Moreover, I have discovered that the Pledge of Allegiance has a history steeped in expressions of nativism and white nationalism. The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1890 by Francis Bellamy, a former Baptist minister. … In support of the Pledge, Mr. Bellamy expressed concern about the ‘races which we cannot assimilate without a lowering of our racial standard.'”

Why the Democrats Cheered Trump’s Defeat, but Should Be More Panicked Than Ever

. . .To see leftwing activists so eagerly cheer the defeat (even temporarily) of some of the most broad-based (and in many instances—Democrat initiated) objectives as it pertains to common sense border security was disheartening.

Why Congressional and Senate Democrats would refuse the opportunity to take partial credit of creating an orderly border process is mystifying. Especially so when 78%-90% of Americans seek tougher border measures. Most of whom also believe that a border barrier is a key component to the multi-lateral security strategy. . .

When a party has a tight leash on the purse strings they are able to bully the masses into subjection on issues of conscience. Trump not only broke that chokehold he also simultaneously completely shifted the direction of the federal judiciary for a generation or more. Working quite closely with Majority Leader McConnell, Trump has nominated and has seen confirmed nearly as many judges in federal, appellate, and Supreme Court(s) in two years as the previous administration did in eight.

The left understands this, they were unprepared and are now fighting hard and dirty. Their precious vision of peacenik socialism, coupled with an ample servings of sexual anarchy, religious bigotry, and self superiority is once again slipping through their fingers.

They literally fight for everything that center-right America is not. (Cue the video from the New York State Senate this week with a standing ovation for late-term and partial-birth abortion now codified into law as much like the Nazi’s of the 1930’s thirsting for the blood of the “impure.”) (Read more from “Why the Democrats Cheered Trump’s Defeat, but Should Be More Panicked Than Ever” HERE)

Brace Yourselves: The Mueller Probe May FINALLY Be Completed

During a press conference on Monday Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker said that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election is coming to an end.

“The investigation is, I think, close to being completed, and I hope that we can get the report from Director Mueller as soon as possible,” Whitaker said. “I’ve been fully briefed, and I look forward to Mueller delivering the final report. Right now, the investigation is close to being completed…Fundamentally, the Mueller investigation has a very defined scope.” . . .

According to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA), Whitaker’s remarks were inappropriate, clearly referencing Whitaker’s past comments on limiting Mueller’s authority:

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani, told Fox News the Trump administration wants as much information as possible to be released to the public. (Read more from “Brace Yourselves: The Mueller Probe May FINALLY Be Completed” HERE)

Boom: U.S. Sanctions Venezuela’s Largest State Owned Oil Company

White House National Security Advisor John Bolton and Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin announced new sanctions on Venezuela’s largest state run oil company Monday afternoon as dictator Nicolas Maduro refuses to step down from power.

“The United States is holding accountable those responsible for Venezuela’s tragic decline, and will continue to use the full suite of its diplomatic and economic tools to support Interim President Juan Guaidó, the National Assembly, and the Venezuelan people’s efforts to restore their democracy,” Mnuchin released in a statement. “Today’s designation of PdVSA [Petroleos de Venezuela] will help prevent further diverting of Venezuela’s assets by Maduro and preserve these assets for the people of Venezuela. The path to sanctions relief for PdVSA is through the expeditious transfer of control to the Interim President or a subsequent, democratically elected government.” . . .

New York’s New Abortion Law Even Removes Protections for WANTED Babies

New York’s new partial birth abortion law, which legalizes killing babies up until moments before birth, also has an impact on the children abortion advocates are always claiming they support: the wanted children.

The New York Reproductive Health Act (or RHA) is horrifying enough on its face; the bill legalizes abortion from week one of a pregnancy through birth for all women in New York state, for nearly any excuse, allowing doctors to perform abortions up to mere minutes before a child is born and well after 24 weeks, the recognized point of viability outside the womb.

But lawmakers recognized that allowing for partial-birth abortion, and in a separate law criminalizing the murder of an unborn — but wanted — baby created a conflict in the state code. That same measure also defines a baby past the 24th week of gestation as a “person” — another hurdle for the RHA.

If a pregnant woman is harmed and her baby is killed, New York, until January 23rd, defined that death as a homicide and prescribed appropriate punishments in line with the state’s existing murder laws. But the new law specifically rewrites the New York penal code, Pajamas Media and the Albany Times Union report, to remove those prescriptions.

“Homicide means conduct which causes the death of a person [or an unborn child with which a female has been pregnant for more than twenty-four weeks] under circumstances constituting murder, manslaughter in the first degree, manslaughter in the second degree, orcriminally negligent homicide[, abortion in the first degree or self-abortion in the first degree].”
