By Daily Wire. President Donald Trump announced retaliatory measures against China on Friday after the Chinese government imposed tariffs on the United States, stating that he is increasing tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars of Chinese goods by an additional 5%.

“For many years China (and many other countries) has been taking advantage of the United States on Trade, Intellectual Property Theft, and much more. Our Country has been losing HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS a year to China, with no end in sight,” Trump tweeted. “Sadly, past Administrations have allowed China to get so far ahead of Fair and Balanced Trade that it has become a great burden to the American Taxpayer. Trade War Explodes as Trump Clashes With Us Firms Over ‘Order’ to Abandon China, Block Fentanyl Shipments

By Fox News. President Trump’s trade war with China boiled over Friday as Beijing slapped retaliatory tariffs on America and the president declared he’s ordering U.S. companies to prepare to leave the country and relocate back home — prompting pushback from corporate America. . .

But as Trump rejects such warnings while keeping his foot on the gas in the clash with China, American businesses responded to his latest guidance by urging continued trade talks.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce issued a statement saying it wants to see continued “constructive engagement” with China.

“The U.S. business community has for many years called out the lack of progress in addressing China’s unfair trade practices. … Despite our concerns, the 40-year-old trade relationship between our two countries has been for the most part productive, constructive, and mutually beneficial,” said Myron Brilliant, executive vice president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

“While we share the President’s frustration, we believe that continued, constructive engagement is the right way forward. Time is of the essence. We do not want to see a further deterioration of US-China relations. WATCH: Did This Pageant Queen Get Her Crown Stripped for Supporting Trump?

Earlier this week, Ms. America Pageant contestant Katie Williams, a combat veteran and member of the Army National Guard, claimed that her Ms. Nevada State title was stripped from her because of her conservative views, which included public support for President Donald Trump.

Williams posted an eight-minute video to Facebook on Monday, which quickly went viral, claiming she separated her personal and pageant-related social media content as directed, and said other contestants posted about left-leaning activism without repercussion.

However, pageant CEO Susan Jeske, who is apparently a supporter of the president, too, said Williams was stripped of her title for not following the “no politics” rule, to which she agreed. . .

In a facebook post addressing the apparent misinformation, Jeske bluntly claimed, “Katie Williams is distorting the facts.”

“ALL the pageant asked of Ms. Williams, in writing, is to keep separate social media accounts. (ie: Facebook) One is for politics where she can voice her own opinion as Katie Williams and the other is a new Facebook page for the pageant representing Ms. Nevada State 2019. None of this had to do with her personal political views,” she wrote.

“The Ms. America Pageant is a No Politics pageant. It is in our Rules & Regulations as posted on the pageant website and therefore available to read before applying to the pageant,” she continued, noting, “It is also included in our contracts and requires handwritten initials and signatures acknowledging that you have read and understood the pageants rules.”

The ‘It’s Easier to Buy a Gun Than Cold Medicine’ Crowd Just Got Slapped with Reality; Trump to Release Gun Control Proposals

By Townhall. Okay—let’s look at the positives of this story. A Business Insider reporter, Hayley Peterson, tried to buy a gun at Walmart to test “the placement, selection, marketing, and security of firearms in Walmart’s stores, and to learn more about the retailer’s processes governing gun sales.” In other words, she wanted to make sure that background checks work. So, she’s going to try and buy a gun, which is something that tens of millions of Americans have already done. And she walked into a Walmart—a family-owned business that’s anathema to the Left. After the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, Walmart has been hit with a petition to end all gun sales.

During the process, Peterson admits that the process was more complicated than the false narrative that’s peddled by the liberal media, the most popular being that it’s easier to buy a gun than cold medicine. Well, her journey just slapped all those clowns who thought that with reality. Background checks are effective. Everyone who goes through a Federal Firearms Licensed dealer to buy their firearms, which is the vast majority of sales in this country, has to undergo a background check. Period. Walmart stopped selling handguns in the 1990s and removed semiautomatic rifles, such as the AR-15, from stores in 2015. . .

A Walmart spokesman later told me that to sell firearms, employees must pass both an enhanced criminal background check and annual online training, provided by Walmart, that includes a mock gun transaction.

Walmart also complies with state-specific requirements where applicable. Illinois, for example, requires people who sell guns to have a firearm-owner identification card, issued by state police.

Trump to Release Gun Control Proposals, Including Background Check Updates

By Politico. President Donald Trump will unveil a series of proposals — including suggested changes to background checks — in the coming weeks, according to the White House, following mass shootings in Texas and Ohio.

It remains unclear exactly what Trump will recommend, though, adding little clarity to the president’s confounding remarks on the subject in recent weeks. Trump and his aides on Wednesday would only say that the president will offer ways to close “loopholes” in the background check system, while declining to reveal any details.

The White House did not give a timetable for the proposals — which will likely include other legislation and executive actions addressing domestic terrorism, violent video games and mental health treatment — but suggested that the package would be timed to Congress’s return in early September. The president received a formal briefing on Tuesday from his staff about the possible options, according to a White House official. Liberal Commentator Profanely Attacks Rep. Crenshaw, Says ‘Brave’ Fighter Took His Eye

Hasan Piker, a contributor with the left-wing “Young Turks” network, unleashed a vulgar rant on Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, a Navy SEAL veteran whom Piker claimed lost his eye to a “brave” soldier.

Crenshaw, who now wears an eyepatch, lost his eye in an IED explosion while serving in Afghanistan. Piker appeared to be describing the Mujahideen, guerilla fighters in Islamic countries, as “brave.” . . .

“What the f–k is wrong with this dude? Didn’t he go to war and literally lose his eye because some Mujahideen — a brave f—–g solider — f—ed his eyehole with their d–k?” Piker asked Tuesday on the live streaming video platform Twitch. . .

Crenshaw responded on Wednesday night, laughing at Piker’s outrage and suggesting the liberal commentator was spewing a “weird terrorist fantasy.”

Bernie Sanders Unveils Most Extreme Climate Change Plan of All 2020 Dems

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) released a climate change plan Thursday that far exceeds the plans of other Democrats in both ambition and cost, according to the New York Times.

Sanders, who supported the infamous Green New Deal posted by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), gave his plan the same title and wants to eliminate fossil fuel use completely by 2050.

The Sanders plan carries a price tag of $16.3 trillion, including $200 billion committed to assisting poor nations in dealing with climate change and its impacts. . .

Sanders said his plan will pay for itself in 15 years by imposing fees on the fossil fuel industry and eliminating subsidies, scaling back military spending, and increasing tax revenue through new renewable energy jobs. Sanders claimed that the plan would create 20 million jobs. . .

Sanders’ plan does not embrace nuclear energy, instead calling for a moratorium on nuclear power plant license renewals and referring to nuclear energy as a “false solution.” For some, that undermines the value of the plan. WATCH: Yale Professor Turns Against Darwinism, Warns Darwinians ‘Will Destroy You If You Challenge’ the Theory

David Gelernter, prominent writer and Yale University professor, believes it’s high time for people to drop Charles Darwin’s outdated theory of evolution. . .

Gelernter, who has been a proponent of Darwinism since childhood, argued that the longstanding theory of evolution simply doesn’t give a thorough enough explanation of, perhaps, the most important component of modern science: the actual origin of species. . .

He pointed out that the concept of intelligent design is not necessarily his favorite theory, but insists that it is an “absolutely serious argument,” pointing out that the theory is the very “first, and obviously most intuitive that comes to mind.” . . .

“I have to distinguish between the way I’ve been treated personally, which has been a very courteous and collegial way by my colleagues at Yale, they’re nice guys and I like them, they’re my friends,” he said in June remarks. “On the other hand, when I look at their intellectual behavior, what they publish, and, much more important, what they tell their students, Darwinism has indeed passed beyond a scientific argument.” . . .

“[I haven’t seen anything] approaching free speech on this topic,” Gelernter admitted. “It’s a bitter rejection, not just — a sort of bitter, fundamental, angry, outraged, violent rejection, which comes nowhere near scientific of intellectual discussion. I’ve seen that happen again and again. ‘I’m a Darwinist, don’t you say a word against it, or, I don’t wanna hear it, period.'”

Lawsuit: Public School District Allowed an Illegal Alien Now Accused of Child Molestation to Volunteer Despite Red Flags

Despite multiple red flags on a 2013 background check, public school officials in Charlotte, N.C., gave an illegal immigrant access to hundreds of young children. Now he’s on trial for child molestation, and his alleged victim’s parents are suing the school district.

In March 2018, Ricardo Mata was arrested by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department on charges of indecent liberties with a child after he was accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl.

Federal immigration authorities later revealed that Mata is an illegal immigrant from Venezuela who now faces deportation at the conclusion of his current trial. ICE issued a detainer for him after he was arrested in 2018.

“On March 17, 2018, officers assigned to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office 287(g) program lodged a detainer on Ricardo Luis Mata-Borjas, 52, a citizen and national of Venezuela, illegally present in the U.S., at the Mecklenburg County Jail after his arrest by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police for indecent liberties with a child and lewd and lascivious acts,” an ICE statement said.

A month later in April, then-Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) superintendent Clayton Wilcox tried to assure the parents and the public that Mata had been properly vetted, saying that the accused child molester “passed the background checks because he had no prior criminal charges.” Wilcox announced his resignation the following July.

However, public documents show and the child’s parents’ lawsuit alleges that Mata’s 2013 background check for the school system turned up at least two incidents in which he was suspected of molesting children on top of two felony arrests and a criminal assault conviction overturned on appeal, according to a report at the Charlotte Observer.

Before 2013, the report adds, public officials apparently never ran a background check on the illegal alien, despite the fact that by that time his after-school “PlaySpanish” foreign language program took place at as many as 15 CMS schools.

In the two previous instances of alleged molestation, Mata was accused of the “forcible fondling” of a six-year-old girl in 2009 and another elementary school student in 2013, though neither investigation produced criminal charges.

The parents accusing Mata of child molestation in this case say that their daughter, who attended PlaySpanish from kindergarten to first grade, was repeatedly molested several times on school grounds during supposed safety drills where the lights were turned off and students were told to hide and be quiet.

The Observer notes that Mata notified CMS of the exercises, but the fact that an after-school volunteer was doing security drills with the lights off somehow didn’t strike anyone as alarming at the time.

“I’m shocked. I’m dismayed. I’m incredibly furious,” the father of the alleged 2017 victim told the Observer. “The red flags were out there, and nobody did anything.”

WATCH: 2020 Democrats Mostly Play Dumb When Asked to Denounce Antifa

Last weekend, violence erupted in Portland, Oregon, yet again after Antifa thugs clad in black took to the streets to counter a demonstration put on by the Proud Boys. Fighting broke out, beatings took place, and ultimately 13 were arrested as the police declared a civil disturbance.

Elijah Schaffer, a BlazeTV contributor and host of the podcast “Slightly Offens*ve,” traveled to Portland and captured footage of the violence mainstream cable news networks neglected to show.

But it wasn’t just the media downplaying or downright ignoring the violent actions of the radical Left. Turning Point USA sent activists to the Iowa State Fair last weekend to catch up with the Democratic presidential candidates and find out if they had anything to say about Antifa.

The Democrats mostly played dumb.

Why weren’t the mainstream networks asking these questions of the Democrats? We never hear the end of it when President Trump doesn’t immediately condemn violence by apparent white supremacists or white nationalists. Mike Pompeo Says He Won’t Run for Kansas’ Open Senate Seat

After a great deal of speculation about his political future, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says he’s not running for Senate in his home state of Kansas. Pompeo, who served as a congressman from the Sunflower State before his executive branch appointment, told the Washington Examiner that he had no plans to make a play for a desk in the upper chamber.

“I am going to stay here,” Pompeo told the outlet in an interview. “There’s lots of people talking about it. The only one who’s not talking about it is me.”

The question remains who will replace outgoing Republican Sen. Pat Roberts, who announced his retirement in early January. Currently, the biggest name on the Republican side of the race is former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who headed up the White House’s short-lived commission on voter fraud and has a long record as an immigration hawk. Kobach’s candidacy, however, isn’t sitting well with Republican establishment types in Washington.

American Conservative Union chair Matt Schlapp has said he was considering a run, but has not announced. Now that Pompeo has officially announced he’s staying out of the race, the stage is set for other Republican candidates who wouldn’t have run against him.

New Research: Fake News Creates Fake Memories

Exposing the public to fake news may lead to the creation of false memories, according to a new study published in Psychological Science.

Researchers in the study asked participants to recall real-life events based upon provided news reports. Even though some of the news reports provided were fake, almost half of respondents reported remembering a fake event in real life — and “many” respondents recalled “rich details” about events that never actually happened, according to Science Daily.

The study, which focused on fake news related to abortion, was conducted shortly before the 2018 Irish referendum that overturned the ban on abortion. Gillian Murphy, the lead author and a researcher at the University College Cork, says that the study is significant because it analyzes the way misinformation influences the way people understand actual events, reports the news outlet.

“In highly emotional partisan political contests, such as the 2020 U.S. presidential election, voters may ‘remember’ entirely fabricated news stories,” Murphy told Science Daily.

Co-author Elizabeth Loftus, a researcher at the University of California–Irvine, believes that understanding how fake news affects the mind will become more important as technology improves, according to Science Daily. “With the growing ability to make news incredibly convincing, how are we going to help people avoid being misled?” asked Loftus, reports the outlet.
