Georgia At The Center Of Clash Between Religious And Gay And Transgender Groups Over Adoption

Gay and transgender groups are on a collision course with religious adoption groups in Georgia as legislators advance a bill designed to protect religious freedom for adoption agencies.

The bill, which was read on Tuesday and is expected to work its way through the Senate in the coming weeks, ensures that adoption agencies would not be forced to place children anywhere that “violates certain religious or moral convictions.” It has raised an outcry from gay and transgender advocates.

Democratic state Rep. Matthew Wilson, a gay member of the legislature, criticized the bill upon its introduction in February as “hateful discrimination, pure and simple.”

The bill’s sponsor, Republican state Sen. Marty Harbin, countered by saying that his bill was only intended to protect the freedom of choice for mothers about how their children will be raised. . .

Advocacy groups have clashed over the bill as well. The gay and transgender rights group Georgia Equality criticizes the protections as “unconscionable,” according to a spokesman. On the other hand, religious groups have praised the effort for seeking to ensure “the welfare of children.” (Read more from “Georgia At The Center Of Clash Between Religious And Gay And Transgender Groups Over Adoption” HERE)

Child Abuse? Homosexual Buttigieg Coaches Boy On How To Come Out As ‘Gay’

. . .”Thank you for being so brave,” the boy, later identified as 9-year-old Zachary Ro, wrote in a question submitted via fishbowl during the presidential hopeful’s Saturday rally, “Would you help me tell the world I’m gay, too? I want to be brave like you.” . . .

“I don’t think you need a lot of advice for me on bravery. You seem pretty strong to me,” Buttigieg, who is gay, told Zachary. “It took me a long time to figure out how to tell even my best friend that I was gay, let alone to go out there and tell the world and to see you willing to come to terms with who you are in a room full of 1,000 people, thousands of people you’ve never met that’s, that’s really something.”

Buttigieg took the opportunity to tell Zachary, “a couple things that might be useful.”

“The first thing is that it won’t always be easy, but that’s okay, because you know who you are. And that’s really important, because when you know who you are, you have a center of gravity that can hold you together when all kinds of chaos is happening around you,” he said. Don’t Buy China’s Story: The Coronavirus May Have Leaked From A Lab; Three Countries Latest To Be Affected By Deadly Coronavirus

By New York Post. At an emergency meeting in Beijing held last Friday, Chinese leader Xi Jinping spoke about the need to contain the coronavirus and set up a system to prevent similar epidemics in the future.

A national system to control biosecurity risks must be put in place “to protect the people’s health,” Xi said, because lab safety is a “national security” issue.

Xi didn’t actually admit that the coronavirus now devastating large swathes of China had escaped from one of the country’s bioresearch labs. But the very next day, evidence emerged suggesting that this is exactly what happened, as the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology released a new directive entitled: “Instructions on strengthening biosecurity management in microbiology labs that handle advanced viruses like the novel coronavirus.”

Read that again. It sure sounds like China has a problem keeping dangerous pathogens in test tubes where they belong, doesn’t it? And just how many “microbiology labs” are there in China that handle “advanced viruses like the novel coronavirus”?

It turns out that in all of China there is only one. And this one is located in the Chinese city of Wuhan that just happens to be . . . the epicenter of the epidemic. (Read more from “Don’t Buy China’s Story: The Coronavirus May Have Leaked From A Lab” HERE)

Three Countries Latest To Be Affected By Deadly Coronavirus

By Fox News. The number of novel coronavirus cases in Italy and South Korea leaped upward on Sunday, spurring authorities to take new steps in an effort to fight a soaring viral outbreak now blamed for at least eight deaths in Iran.

Italian authorities announced they were shutting down carnival events in Venice as at least 133 people have been reported to have been infected with COVID-19 in the country. Nearly all of Italy’s cases are clustered in the north, including in the northeast Veneto region, which includes Venice.

The dozens of newly confirmed cases have caused all schools and universities to be closed not only in Milan, but in the entire region of Lombardy, for an indefinite period of time as movie theaters, concerts and public gatherings have also been banned.

Italy’s first cases — that of a married Chinese couple who were on vacation in Rome — surfaced in early February. To date, two deaths have been reported in the country while 27 are reported to be in intensive care as of Sunday, officials told Fox News.

Italian health officials have said they have not found the “ground zero” patient who may be behind the outbreak in the northern part of the country. A man who had traveled to China and was thought to have sickened another 38-year-old man in the northern part of the country has tested negative, health officials said. Drug Prices Dropped 11 Percent Under President Trump

A White House Council of Economic Advisors (CEA) report released this week found that drug prices fell by more than 11 percent under President Donald Trump.

A White House CEA report found that President Trump’s actions have reduced prescription drug prices. The CEA detailed that, under former President Barack Obama, drug prices continued to increase and only started to fall after Trump took the oath of office.

The CEA wrote that prescription drug prices fell more than 11 percent and well below general inflation. . .

The CEA attributed much of this to the president’s signing of the 2017 Drug Competition Action Plan and the 2018 Strategic Policy Roadmap. The CEA said the reforms enhance “choice and price competition in the biopharmaceutical markets.”

“We estimate that the results of these actions will save consumers almost 10 percent on retail prescription drugs, which results in an increase of $32 billion per year in the purchasing power of the incomes of Americans (including both consumers and producers),” the council added. Democratic Elites Prefer Trump To Sanders

By Breitbart. . .It’s an article of faith inside the Bernie Sanders campaign that the Democratic establishment is going to do everything it can to stop the Vermonter from winning the Democratic nomination this year. This is what happened four years ago during the primary battle, when the Democratic National Committee (DNC) was helping Hillary Clinton win the nomination, even as it feigned neutrality in the contest.

In fact, MSNBC’s anti-Sanders tone is so strong that it’s been noticed by others on the left; hence this February 12 headline in the liberal New Republic magazine, “Bernie Sanders Has an MSNBC Problem.” As the article details, a long list of MSNBC talking heads—including Joe Scarborough, Chuck Todd, Lawrence O’Donnell, and James Carville—have hammered Sanders.

At the top of that list of MSNBC hitmen is Chris Matthews. On February 7, in one of his typically purple perorations, Matthews compared Sanders to Fidel Castro, adding that if Castro had somehow managed to bring communism to America, “There would have been executions in Central Park”—and among the executed would have been Matthews himself. . .

. . .Matthews-type Democrats see Sanders as an internal enemy: That is, he and his socialism—or, as Matthews might put it, communism—are a threat to the good order of the existing Democratic Party structures, which rely heavily on funding from Wall Street, Silicon Valley, and individual heirs and plutocrats.

These donors are perfectly happy with a Democratic Party that’s green and gay, but not one that’s red and angry. So we can see: Trump unites Democrats (in opposition to Trump), whereas Sanders divides them (pro and con on Sanders). (Read more from “Democratic Elites Prefer Trump To Sanders” HERE)

Sanders Is A Risk, Not A Winner

By The Hill. Please, Democrats, find a practical, moderate candidate for president to help those of us in the center of the American political spectrum oust Donald Trump and his mindless supporters in Congress from power in November.

The Bernie Sanders revolution is not the answer.

The country needs a return to sanity, not an extremist from the idealistic far left to defeat Trump, the extremist reactionary on the far right. Give us someone — any gender or race — who is a real problem solver and who has some hope of winning the presidential and congressional election and then creating the political conditions for real change.

I make this plea as someone who grew up in the South and has worked in government for presidents of both parties. I am also not affiliated with any political party or candidate. (Read more from “Sanders Is A Risk, Not A Winner” HERE)

Pete Buttigieg Appears To Rip Off 2012 Tweet From Barack Obama

Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg appeared to rip off a 2012 tweet from former President Barack Obama.

The tweet, which was posted to Buttigieg’s account with no attribution, read, “If we can light up a high school gym—we can light a neighborhood. If we can light up a neighborhood—we can light a city. If we can light up a city—we can light up our country.”

Obama’s tweet, posted on November 5, 2012, read, “One voice can change a room. And if it can change a room, it can change a city. And if it can change a city, it can change a state.”

Bernie Sanders Breezes To Victory In Nevada Caucuses

Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders emerged as the projected clear winner in Saturday’s 2020 Nevada Democratic primary caucuses.

Sanders made massive inroads in the Hispanic and African-American communities, and while the Nevada Democratic Party had not finished tabulating results at press time, multiple news outlets all projected a massive win for Sanders. The only question remaining was exactly how large his margin of victory would be.

Former Vice President Joe Biden was projected to finish in second place, with former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren close on his heels. Democratic Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar told reporters she was happy with her fifth place projected finish. She, Democratic Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, and billionaire businessman Tom Steyer were all projected to win less than 10% of the vote.

Saturday’s victory is Bernie’s third strong result in the first three primary states and will lend him a significant share of the state’s 36 convention delegates. He previously topped Buttigieg and Klobuchar in New Hampshire, fell just short of victory in Iowa, and, after Saturday’s performance, remains the clear front-runner.

The Real Clear Politics polling average saw Sanders holding a more than 11-point national lead over Biden heading into the weekend, but his lead over the former vice president expanded to 16 in Nevada. Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, who has floated between second and third place in recent weeks per RCP, will not appear on any primary ballots until Super Tuesday. Report Undercuts Claim That Russia Is Trying To Help Trump’s Re-election

American intelligence does not indicate that Russia is attempting to help President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign, according to a new report.

According to CNN, who spoke with several U.S. intelligence officials, Shelby Pierson, the top election intelligence official, overstated the intelligence community’s assessment on Russian interference in the 2020 election during a recent classified briefing with the House Intelligence Committee. She told lawmakers that Russia is attempting to aid Trump’s re-election, the New York Times reported last week.

However, the intelligence simply does not indicate that.

“The intelligence doesn’t say that,” a senior national security official told CNN. “A more reasonable interpretation of the intelligence is not that they have a preference, it’s a step short of that. It’s more that they understand the President is someone they can work with, he’s a dealmaker.” (Read more from “Report Undercuts Claim That Russia Is Trying To Help Trump’s Re-election” HERE)

Greyhound Hit With Boycott Calls Over Shock Decision To Stop Immigration Cooperation

Acting Deputy Homeland Security Secretary Ken Cuccinelli is calling for a boycott of Greyhound after the bus company announced last week it would stop cooperating with federal immigration enforcement.

In a shock announcement last Friday, Greyhound announced that “it would notify the Department of Homeland Security that it does not consent to unwarranted searches on its buses or in areas of terminals that are not open to the public.”

The transportation company cited customer and employee safety as the reason for the surprising change.

“It’s a sad day to see something like this, and hopefully #BoycottGreyhound will pick up,” Cuccinelli said Saturday on Fox News. (Read more from “Greyhound Hit With Boycott Calls Over Shock Decision To Stop Immigration Cooperation” HERE)

Global Tipping Point Reached; What Really Inflamed The Coronavirus Epidemic; Coronavirus Cases In The United States Reach 34

By Nautilus. Last year, in late December, Li Wenliang, a young ophthalmologist, wrote 150 of his friends from medical circles. He said he had seen a number of cases of viral pneumonia come into the Wuhan Central Hospital, where he worked, and that they all seemed linked to the Huanan Seafood Market, the main source for restaurants in Wuhan, a metropolis of 11 million people, and the most important city of the central regions of China. Five weeks later, Li was dead, at 34, killed by the same virus about which he warned his friends in the same hospital that had warned him not to tell people what was happening.

An online tidal wave of reflection and grief that I’ve never seen before resulted. My own personal WeChat feed was flooded with comments and tributes to him, ranging from poems to cartoons of him eating his favorite meal of fried chicken. The rage was directed largely at Wuhan city officials. After Li had written to his friends, he had been called into a police station, where he was forced to sign an unusual document designed to coerce him into silence. Later, he spoke to Chinese private media company Caixin, shedding light on the unfolding epidemic which, having engulfed first Wuhan and its surroundings, is now front page news across the world. Li became, as a result, the face and name of a censorship phenomenon involving a number of other doctors.

Rightly, people are in uproar about China’s security forces blocking Chinese doctors from sharing crucial public health information. To date, the coronavirus, a respiratory illness that begins with a fever before escalating to attack the lungs, has killed more than 1,300 people. Is Li a representative case of the failings of Chinese government censorship? Yes. Being punished for sharing information about a virus among medical professionals changes the incentives for everyone wishing to report the virus, cooling relations and slowing information.

But did censoring Li and others make the outbreak of the virus much worse, leading to many more deaths, as many Chinese people believe? Not so much. The censorship, and its subsequent chilling effect, is not what is killing people: What is a far more proximate cause of these deaths is the incompetence of the Wuhan government and the central health authorities in the two weeks that followed the censorship. They failed to prepare any sort of health system response, and the Wuhan authorities were preoccupied by a major political conference. When the virus took hold and became an epidemic, the health system was swamped. People were unable to access health services, and in some cases, people were contracting the virus when already sick or weak, making them more likely to succumb. . .

The Wuhan authorities knew that the epidemic was of grave concern, yet did not notify the public nor begin preparing. It seems most likely that they were completely occupied by the two political meetings, which took up all government and Party resources, and killed any air time for public health announcements—thus negligently wasting two vital weeks to prepare for any possible outbreak. For example, they lacked the capacity to test for the virus at the necessary scale, making only 200 test kits per day, and sending early tests off to Beijing for results. On January 20, Xi Jinping got involved and the vast Chinese bureaucracy kicked into gear, shutting down a whole province. Local governments were told to take any measures necessary. For the past three weeks, we have seen the overreaction: airports and travel grinding to a standstill, most of China working from home (around half of China’s citizens are unable to move), and various countries closing their borders to Chinese nationals. Coronavirus Epidemic Hits Global Tipping Point

By Hilary Brueck. The World Health Organization signaled on Friday that time may be running out to contain the worldwide spread of the novel coronavirus.

“The window of opportunity is narrowing to contain the outbreak,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters on Friday during a press conference in Geneva. “We still have a chance to contain it. But while doing that, we have to prepare at the same time for any eventualities because this outbreak could go any direction. It could even be messy.”

More than 1,000 people are sick with the pneumonialike illness, COVID-19, outside China, and some new cases have “no link” to China’s Hubei province where the virus is thought to have originated in a wet market in Wuhan, the WHO director-general said. It’s a first and “very worrisome” sign, he said, that the virus may be readying to spread broadly and independently outside the country where it originated in December. Coronavirus Cases In The United States Reach 34, And More Are Expected

By New York Times. At least 34 people in the United States are infected with the coronavirus spreading from China, federal health officials said on Friday. . .

But so far there has been no community spread of the infection in the United States, she added; all of the cases have been linked to overseas travel.

Eleven of the infections were diagnosed in travelers who fell ill after returning on their own from overseas, and two of their close contacts became infected. The other 21 patients are people who were returned to the United States by the State Department. (Read more from “Coronavirus Cases In The United States Reach 34, And More Are Expected” HERE)
