WATCH: Democratic Mayor Tells Criminals to ‘Chill’ and Wait to Commit Crimes

By The Blaze. Houston’s Democratic mayor announced to the crooks and the criminals that they needed to “chill” and wait until the coronavirus pandemic was over to commit crimes.

Mayor Sylvester Turner made the plea to criminals during a media briefing on the coronavirus response in Houston on Monday.

“Let me just make my plea. Until the coronavirus is resolved, criminals take a break, OK!” said Turner.

“Stay home, OK? Stay home. And don’t commit any crimes!” he added.

“And that way, they’ll stay safe and out of jail, and police officers can stay safe and go home to their families, OK?” Turner concluded. “So everybody chill! Crooks, criminals, you chill! Wait until the coronavirus is over! OK, and then we’ll all be OK!”

Coronavirus Criminals: Authorities Wage War Against Virus Scammers, Thieves, Impostors and Idiots

By Fox News. From price-gouging, mask stealing and pharma-fraud to charity scams, app extortion, cyber-hacking and even “coughing” on people and produce for Instagram followers or as an act of hate, the new coronavirus-centered crime wave – like the spread of the novel virus – is gaining momentum by the minute.

“People have been so focused on the coronavirus itself, its spread and the danger, less attention has been paid to how fraudsters are committing crimes to steal money and to obtain personal information in order to steal money,” David Katz, former Assistant U.S. Attorney for Los Angeles, told Fox News. “Working people are often hurt the most by fraud. Beyond scams, there has been stealing, diverting and hoarding of surgical masks and other medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and cargos of groceries, plus hate crimes.”

While traditional criminal activity across much of the country is reported to have dropped in recent weeks as governments have urged – and enforced – residents to shelter in place in a bid to combat the contagion spread, authorities are not battling a crime wave of a different kind: those exploiting the unique pandemic. And the types of illicit actions pertaining to the coronavirus, officially termed COVID-19, are vast and varying. Poll: 5-In-6 Americans Want to End Immigration From Mexico

In the midst of the Chinese coronavirus crisis, about five-in-six American adults said they want to see the United States end all immigration from Mexico.

The latest Harvard/Harris Poll asks Americans whether they would support or oppose an immigration moratorium on Mexico during the coronavirus crisis. Overall, 83 percent — or five-in-six — said they favor ending all immigration from Mexico at the moment.

This sweeping support for ending immigration from Mexico includes 75 percent of Hispanic Americans and 77 percent of black Americans. Another 73 percent of Democrat voters said they support ending immigration from Mexico, while 84 percent of swing voters and 93 percent of Republican voters support such a measure.

Even among the most liberal voters, nearly 70 percent said they support ending immigration from Mexico, as well as 74 percent of voters who supported failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016.

The poll comes as Mexico’s coronavirus cases continue to climb, now reaching nearly 1,000 confirmed infections with 20 deaths and 938 active cases. (Read more from “Poll: 5-In-6 Americans Want to End Immigration From Mexico” HERE)

Trump Eyes More Travel Bans to Stop Coronavirus; Trump Unveils New Five-Minute Test Device, N95 Mask Sterilizer

By Breitbart. President Trump is eyeing additional travel bans to stop the spread of the Chinese coronavirus in the United States.

During a press briefing on Monday, Trump hinted that he may expand the current travel ban list beyond China, Iran, and Europe to ensure that the coronavirus is not being spread by new arrivals.

“They’ll be staying and we may add a few more,” Trump said. “But the guidelines will be very much as they are, maybe even toughened up a little bit. But they’re having a big impact, they’re having a tremendous impact.”

Already, Trump has closed the southern and northern borders to migrant entry and travel, as well as the travel bans. Still, hundreds of flights every week have continued arriving in the U.S. from other regions of the world. (Read more from “Trump Eyes More Travel Bans to Stop Coronavirus” HERE)

Trump Unveils New Five-Minute Coronavirus Test Device, N95 Mask Sterilizer

By New York Post. A new coronavirus testing device that can produce a result in five minutes will soon be available throughout the US, Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn announced Monday.

The test will be available in doctors’ clinics, emergency rooms and drive-through sites within the next month as officials try to rapidly overcome a lack of readily-available tests during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Just like tests for flu or strep where you go to the doctor’s office so you can get a test done, you can get an answer within minutes of having this test done,” Hahn said during President Trump’s coronavirus task force briefing in the Rose Garden.

The device produced by Chicago-based Abbott Laboratories would normally take 12 months to come to market but with support from the FDA and Trump administration, had been approved in just weeks, Hahn said. . .

The president also announced a separate FDA breakthrough which would allow health care workers to sterilize N95 respiratory masks that are in critically short supply. (Read more from “Trump Unveils New Five-Minute Coronavirus Test Device, n95 Mask Sterilizer” HERE)

Abortion Providers Sue as More States Halt Procedure to Preserve Medical Equipment

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit Monday that challenged the Iowa governor’s order to stop abortion providers from performing the procedure in the state in order to preserve personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers who are treating coronavirus victims.

The ACLU of Iowa filed its lawsuit in Johnson County District Court on behalf of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland and the Emma Goldman Clinic, claiming Gov. Kim Reynolds’ (R) order violated the state Constitution.

“The ACLU lawsuit throws Iowa into litigation over women’s reproductive health at a time that the state is responding to growing cases of COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the virus,” reported the Des Moines Register.

However, Erin Davison-Rippey, executive director for Planned Parenthood North Central States, said elective abortion is a “crucial service.”

“We are in a critical moment for our state when we must come together to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, not politicize health care services that are constitutionally protected,” she said. “Iowans are doing all they can to protect their families and communities during this pandemic and Planned Parenthood is focused on providing our patients with crucial services they need.”

WATCH: Sleepy Joe’s Latest Shadow Briefing Goes Worse Than the First

Following Biden’s “Virtual Happy Hour” which my colleague, Bonchie, posted on here, the former Vice President decided to resume his shadow briefings on the Chinese virus on Wednesday. He wants to show Americans how a real president would handle this crisis. (He decided to skip Tuesday’s briefing. I suppose he was worn out after three ten minute interviews he’d given earlier in the day from his home studio.)

Those who watched it said the presumptive Democratic nominee “devolved into gibberish” at times. In the clip below, Biden tells viewers, “I’m going to, Barack, significantly increase the number of pell grants that are out there. A pell grant is a family basically less than $50,000 you’re able to get at the time, it was less than six but it raised it to $6000.” . . .

Lloyd Constantine, a New York attorney and one-time senior policy advisor to former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, writes, “Biden is a melting ice cube. Those of us who have closely watched as time ravaged the once sharp or even brilliant minds of loved ones and colleagues, recognize what is happening to the good soldier Joe.” . . .

Biden’s decline over just the last week has been extraordinary. I don’t think it will be possible for the Democrats to keep this farce going until November. (Read more from “WATCH: Sleepy Joe’s Latest Shadow Briefing Goes Worse Than the First” HERE)

FDA Issues Emergency Approval of Anti-Malaria Drugs to Treat Coronavirus; Study Will Test If Hydroxychloroquine Can Prevent COVID-19

By Washington Examiner. The Food and Drug Administration issued a limited emergency use authorization of two malaria drugs that have been pushed by President Trump for treating the coronavirus.

In a statement Sunday night, the Health and Human Services Department announced it had received 30 million doses of hydroxychloroquine sulfate and one million doses of chloroquine phosphate. The drugs were donated to the Strategic National Stockpile, a repository of potentially life-saving medical supplies.

The statement said the FDA had issued an emergency use authorization to allow both drugs “to be distributed and prescribed by doctors to hospitalized teen and adult patients with COVID-19, as appropriate, when a clinical trial is not available or feasible.” (Read more from “FDA Issues Emergency Approval of Anti-Malaria Drugs to Treat Coronavirus” HERE)

Study Will Test If Hydroxychloroquine Can Prevent COVID-19

By Live Science. The anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine has made headlines in recent weeks for its potential to help with the new coronavirus disease, COVID-19, though its benefits remain unproven. Now, a new study will test whether the drug can prevent COVID-19 transmission.

For the study, researchers in New York and Washington state plan to enroll 2,000 participants who are close contacts of people with confirmed or pending COVID-19 diagnoses.

Participants will be randomly assigned to take either hydroxychloroquine or a placebo for two weeks, and they will be tested daily for COVID-19, according to a statement from the University of Washington (UW), which will collaborate on the study with New York University (NYU).

The trial is expected to last eight weeks, and researchers hope to have the results by summer.

“Currently, there is no proven way to prevent COVID-19 after being exposed,” Anna Bershteyn, an assistant professor of population health at NYU Langone Health and co-principal investigator on the study, said in the statement. “If hydroxychloroquine provides protection, then it could be an essential tool for fighting this pandemic. If it doesn’t, then people should avoid unnecessary risks from taking the drug.” (Read more from “Study Will Test If Hydroxychloroquine Can Prevent COVID-19” HERE)

Lots of Unanswered Questions With Budget Deadline a Day Away

There’s a growing acknowledgment among legislators that the new state budget, which is due by midnight on Tuesday, may be late.

“I can’t make that commitment to you that it will be done by April 1,” Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes said during a floor debate. “I would love to see the budget be done on time. I can’t commit to you that it will be. That’s a question for those who are at a different level than I am.”

The only legislative action on Monday took place in the Assembly, where members approved a resolution that changes the way the chamber votes during states of emergency. That measure, notably, creates the possibility of remote voting in the coming weeks. . .

Typically, people know little more than scattered pieces about what might be in the final product until moments before the voting starts. This year — with the Capitol largely on lockdown, and reporters and lobbyists no longer able to corner legislators in the hallways — they know even less. De Blasio Threatens to Permanently Close Places of Worship That Resist Shutdown Order

By Washington Examiner. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio warned religious leaders that their places of worship could be shut down permanently if they did not follow the city’s order to pause services during the coronavirus pandemic.

“A small number of religious communities, specific churches and specific synagogues, are unfortunately not paying attention to this guidance even though it’s so widespread,” the New York Democrat said Friday at his daily press briefing.

“I want to say to all those who are preparing for the potential of religious services this weekend: If you go to your synagogue, if you go to your church and attempt to hold services after having been told so often not to, our enforcement agents will have no choice but to shut down those services,” he added.

De Blasio said that continued resistance of authorities to close religious services could mean a permanent shutdown. (Read more from “De Blasio Threatens to Permanently Close Places of Worship That Resist Shutdown Order” HERE)

De Blasio: Trump’s Suggestion Face Masks Are Being Stolen Is ‘Insulting’

By Politico. Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday dismissed President Donald Trump’s suggestion that New York medical workers are stealing face masks.

“It’s insulting, it’s outrageous, it’s incredibly insensitive to people right now who are giving their all,” de Blasio said during an interview on NY1. “Our healthcare workers are suffering — they’re literally watching some of their own lost to this disease. They’re fighting with all they got.”

Trump, during a Sunday press conference, questioned why hospitals are going through medical supplies so quickly, asking: “Are they going out the back door?” He also said there’s a “question as to hoarding of ventilators” by hospitals.

De Blasio said he doesn’t “know what the president’s talking about.” (Read more from “De Blasio: Trump’s Suggestion Face Masks Are Being Stolen Is ‘Insulting’” HERE)

Graham: Pelosi Comment on Trump Is ‘Most Shameful, Disgusting Statement by Any Politician in Modern History’

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday railed against Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) after she said President Trump’s response to the coronavirus outbreak was having deadly consequences.

“She’s blaming the president of the United States for people dying because of the way he’s led the country,” Graham, a vocal Trump ally, said on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures.” “That’s the most shameful, disgusting statement by any politician in modern history.”

Speaking earlier on CNN, Pelosi said Trump’s lack of aggressive action was having severe effects throughout the United States. She said Trump’s initial downplaying of the disease and his delay in coordinating a response proved to have “deadly” impacts.

“His denial at the beginning was deadly. His delaying of getting equipment … to where it is needed is deadly,” Pelosi said, stressing that social distancing requirements should remain intact as states attempt to slow the rapid spread of the disease. . .

“This is the same Speaker of the House who held up the bill in the Senate for days because she wanted same-day voting. She wanted carbon neutrality for the airlines,” Graham said. “She is the one that held up the package in the Senate for days. … So it’s the most shameful, disgusting thing I have heard yet, and it needs to stop.” (Read more from “Graham: Pelosi Comment on Trump Is ‘Most Shameful, Disgusting Statement by Any Politician in Modern History'” HERE)
