Trump’s COVID-19 Response Will Make Or Break His 2020 Reelection Bid

A week ago, Tucker Carlson warned that the outbreak of the novel coronavirus that originated in Wuhan, China in 2019, COVID-19, could put Bernie Sanders in the White House. Carlson is right. President Trump’s response to COVID-19, rhetorical and actual, will make or break his presidency. . .

With Trump’s tweet, among others, came the general feeling that the White House wasn’t taking COVID-19 very seriously. Of course, Democrats and some in the media are attempting to use the virus for political gain. First, they said the Trump administration had cut coronavirus funding at the Centers for Disease Control—except that is totally untrue. Democrats have also tried to say that Vice President Mike Pence isn’t qualified to lead Trump’s coronavirus taskforce—except that Pence is incredibly qualified.

The White House response thus far hasn’t been perfect, however. There’s been a concerning trend of conservative pundits and TV doctors dismissing fears about COVID-19 as media-induced hysteria. TV doctors can rant all they want about how dumb it is for the public to react to the virus, but people have reason to be worried. Markets have a good reason to be worried as well. . .

All this is to say that the economic implications of COVID-19 are extremely serious. The stock market may bounce back quickly, but equities could keep going lower and the global economy could contract in 2020. . .

Yet the White House could be reacting even more strongly. Why should non-citizen Italians be able to fly to the United States from Italy while the virus is breaking out in that country, for example? Boris Johnson gets it. He’s set up a coronavirus “War Room.” (Read more from “Trump’s COVID-19 Response Will Make Or Break His 2020 Reelection Bid” HERE)

DNC Denies Rigging Election Against Socialist Sanders

By Breitbart. A spokeswoman for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) denied allegations by members of both parties that the panel is sabotaging socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) efforts to become the Democrat party’s presidential nominee in a bid to help so-called moderate and establishment figures like former vice president Joe Biden.

Sanders and the DNC have a strained relationship.

President Donald Trump and some Democrats, including the Bernie campaign and its supporters, have recently indicated that the DNC is rigging the ongoing election against the Vermont socialist and in favor of so-called moderates and establishment figures like Joe Biden, the former vice president.

DNC spokeswoman Xochitl Hinojosa, however, blamed Republicans for disseminating the claim that the committee is stacking the deck against Sanders. . .

Following Biden’s rebound Super Tuesday after a big victory in South Carolina, which prompted three candidates to drop out, the contest for the Democrat party’s presidential nomination increasingly looks like a two-person race between the former vice president and Sanders. Biden and Sanders have emerged as the front-runners.

If Obama Is Trying to Block Bernie, He Should Say Why

By The Federalist. Former Vice President Joe Biden landed a series of major endorsements from high-profile Democrats Monday, including former 2020 competitors who ended their campaigns to get behind the establishment favorite.

Just 48 hours before the nationwide contests on Super Tuesday, former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg dropped out the race and announced his endorsement for Biden in Dallas Monday night. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who ended her campaign earlier in the afternoon, also endorsed Biden on the Dallas stage along with yet another former Democratic candidate, former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke. On the same day, Biden also secured endorsements from former Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and former U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice.

The slew of endorsements on the eve of the biggest day of the Democratic primary illustrates a “moderate” coalescing around Biden following a 28-point blow-out win in South Carolina that has resurrected his sunken campaign and offered new hope to Democrats seeking to thwart Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ momentum. As the Biden campaign suffered blow after blow by performing worse-than-expected in the first three contests, Sanders eclipsed Biden as the new frontrunner. Sanders captured the popular vote in Iowa, took home first place in New Hampshire and claimed victory in Nevada by 26 points, all while the Biden campaign went into free-fall, hinging its bets on South Carolina as its “firewall.”

It’s no secret President Barack Obama is anxious about a Sanders nomination. Last fall, the former president, who has refrained from getting involved in the Democratic contest, privately remarked that he would speak out if Sanders appeared likely to capture enough delegates needed for the party’s coronation in Milwaukee. Super Tuesday Results; Warren Finishes Last; Biden Confuses His Wife for His Sister During Super Tuesday Victory Speech (VIDEO)

Biden Surges to Victory Across Super Tuesday Map, as Sanders Claims Delegate Prize in California

By Fox News. Former Vice President Joe Biden surged to victory in Super Tuesday contests across the South and beyond, while Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., claimed gold in delegate-prize California – divvying up the map on the biggest primary day of the season and indicating a tight battle between the two that is likely to drag on for weeks or more.

The second-biggest contest, in Texas with 228 pledged delegates, is currently too close to call. With 77 percent of precincts reporting, Biden is ahead of Sanders by 3 percentage points. Because delegates are awarded proportionally, both candidates are likely to receive a similar share of delegates from Texas regardless of the ultimate winner of the popular vote there.

Maine’s race call is also outstanding. With 64 percent of precincts reporting, Sanders and Biden are within one percentage point.

But the headline of the night was the former vice president’s remarkable comeback after his poor performances in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada earlier this year. Biden won the most contests Tuesday – though who came out ahead in the delegate race remains unclear – and certainly outperformed expectations from just a week ago. . .

Biden so far is projected to win Massachusetts, Minnesota, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Sanders handily won his home state of Vermont and later racked up wins in Colorado and Utah, in addition to California, Fox News projects. California and its 415 delegates amounted to the biggest prize on the map on Tuesday. Biden Wins Massachusetts, Warren Finishes Last

By Townhall. Polls are closed in Massachusetts, and the race was a three-way fight between Sens. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and former Vice President Joe Biden. Super Tuesday always presented a fight for Sen. Warren, especially to win her home state. Sen. Warren has indicated that she will not exit the race tonight.

Biden is projected to be the winner of the Massachusetts primary, followed by Sen. Sanders in second and Sen. Warren coming in third in her home state.

Biden Confuses His Wife for His Sister During Super Tuesday Victory Speech

By Washington Examiner. Joe Biden opened up his victory speech on Super Tuesday by confusing his wife for his younger sister.

“It’s a good night. It’s a good night, and it seems to be getting even better,” the former vice president said Tuesday. “They don’t call it Super Tuesday for nothing.”

“This is my little sister Valerie,” Biden said, pointing to his wife. He quickly realized his mistake and said, “You switched on me!”

Crickets From Green Groups as Trump Makes U.S. ‘Global Leader in Emissions Reductions’

Under President Trump, the United States led the world in reducing carbon-dioxide emissions in 2019, but don’t expect Greta Thunberg to give him a hug any time soon.

International Energy Agency data released earlier this month showing that U.S. emissions dropped by 2.9% last year failed to make an impression with Democrats, environmentalists and climate activists, who either shrugged off the data or argued that Mr. Trump’s climate-denialism was somehow thwarted.

“U.S. carbon emissions declined last year in spite of every effort by the Trump administration to prop up dirty energy,” said David Doniger, senior strategic director of the Climate & Clean Energy Program at the National Resources Defense Council, in an email. . .

At the same time, the climate skeptics who have backed Mr. Trump’s push to boost coal, bring back manufacturing, and pull out of the Paris agreement warned against doing backflips over the continued U.S. decline in greenhouse gases.

Myron Ebell, director of the Center for Energy and the Environment at the free-market Competitive Enterprise Institute, said that cheering the reduction surrenders the field to the climate-change movement. Denver Councilwoman Tweets ‘Solidarity’ With Spreading Coronavirus at Trump Rallies

By Washington Examiner. A Denver city councilwoman appeared to cheer on a message about spreading the coronavirus at one of President Trump’s rallies.

Councilwoman Candi CdeBaca, a Democrat, enthusiastically responded last week to a tweet that featured a graphic that said, “For the record, if I do get the coronavirus I’m attending every MAGA rally I can.”

Her quote tweet said, “#solidarity Yaaaas!!” along with five emojis, three of which were faces laughing so hard that they were crying.

The councilwoman later responded to a reporter’s tweet, saying, “1. Are you listening to ANYTHING Trump has said about the virus? 2. Do you realize Trump reduced the virus to a common flu? 3. I know sarcasm is hard to read in a tweet, but you are usually a bit quicker than this. Next time I will use more emoji’s just 4 you.” (Read more from “Denver Councilwoman Tweets ‘Solidarity’ With Spreading Coronavirus at Trump Rallies” HERE)

Trump Administration Considering Paying for Uninsured Coronavirus Patients’ Medical Care: Report

By The Hill. The Trump administration is considering paying the cost of care for uninsured patients with the coronavirus using a national disaster reimbursement program, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The program allows the federal government to pay hospitals and other medical providers about 110 percent of Medicare rates for patients affected by natural disasters such as hurricanes.

Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response Dr. Robert Kadlec said Tuesday at a congressional hearing that officials are in talks about using the National Disaster Medical System’s reimbursement program.

The number of people who had no insurance at any point during the year rose in 2018 to 8.5 percent, or 27.5 million, up from 2017 when it was 25.6 million, or 7.9 percent. Hospitals provided more than $38 billion in uncompensated care in 2017, according to the Journal, citing the American Hospital Association (AHA). Trump Campaign Sues The Washington Post

President Trump’s reelection campaign announced on Tuesday they have filed a lawsuit against the Washington Post for libel with regards to two stories they published alleging Russian connections with the campaign.

The suit was filed against the paper on Monday and wants “compensatory damages in the millions of dollars, according to proof; ii. Presumed damages according to proof; iii. Punitive damages according to proof; iv. Costs of suit; and v. Such other and further relief as the Court may deem proper.”

The two articles the campaign are suing over includes an article from July 2019 by Paul Waldman, “which contains the defamatory statement ‘who knows what sort of aid Russia and North Korea will give to the Trump campaign, now that he has invited them to offer their assistance?'”

“The statement in the June 20 Article is false and defamatory. There has never been any statement by anyone associated with the Campaign or the administration ‘inviting’ Russia or North Korea to assist the Campaign in 2019 or beyond. There also has never been any reporting that the Campaign has ever had any contact with North Korea relating to any United States election,” the campaign says in the lawsuit. Apple Co-Founder Says He May Be ‘Patient Zero’ for Coronavirus in U.S.; Dow Closes Down Almost 800 Points as Reality of Coronavirus Epidemic Sinks in

By The Blast. Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak says he may actually be ‘patient zero’ in the spread of Coronavirus in the U.S. — all because upon returning from a trip to China, Woz and his wife, Janet, came down with the worst flu of their lives…but were not tested for the deadly virus.

According to Wozniak, upon returning from Southeast Asia, he and his wife, Janet, came down with a massive flu. But, when being treated they were NOT tested for the Coronavirus.

The Apple co-founder tweeted about the situation, saying, “Checking out Janet’s bad cough. Started Jan. 4. We had just returned from China and may have both been patient zero in U.S. (@ West Coast Sports Institute in Santa Clara, CA).” (Read more from “Apple Co-Founder Says He May Be ‘Patient Zero’ for Coronavirus in U.S.” HERE)

Dow Closes Down Almost 800 Points as Reality of Coronavirus Epidemic Sinks in

By NBC News. The Federal Reserve’s historic emergency rate cut was not enough to assuage Wall Street on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunging wildly to end the day down by almost 800 points.

Nervous traders loaded up all day on “safe haven” assets such as gold and Treasury notes — pushing yields to record levels — amid growing realization that the coronavirus might not be as fleeting as President Donald Trump’s administration has conveyed.

The cut is intended to “boost household and business confidence,” mirroring actions taken by central banks around the world, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said at a news conference after the surprise announcement.

However, it spooked investors, pushing all three major averages down after he spoke. By midafternoon, the S&P 500 had fallen by 3.4 percent, and the Nasdaq was down 3.6 percent. (Read more from “Dow Closes Down Almost 800 Points as Reality of Coronavirus Epidemic Sinks in” HERE)

Power Outage Hits Los Angeles International Airport, Nearby Polling Places on Super Tuesday; Protesters Rush Stage During Biden’s Rally

By NBC News. Several terminals at Los Angeles International Airport and nearby polling stations lost electrical power Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

A Los Angeles police station went dark, and traffic lights in the area were affected, authorities said.

LAX announced at 12:21 p.m. local time that the airport “has experienced a power interruption” and that crews were “working to restore systems.”

Then, 15 minutes later, LAX said the blackout had reached terminals 1, 2 and 3, while the Tom Bradley International Terminal and terminals “4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 have full power.” (Read more from “Power Outage Hits Los Angeles International Airport, Nearby Polling Places on Super Tuesday” HERE)

Protesters Rush Stage During Biden’s Super Tuesday Rally

By The Hill. Anti-dairy protesters rushed the stage during former Vice President Joe Biden’s Super Tuesday rally.

A woman chanting “let dairy die” was swiftly removed from the stage at the California event. Moments later a second protester stormed the stage. She was abruptly carried off by Biden campaign aide Symone Sanders.

Both protesters came within a couple of feet of Biden, raising concerns about security surrounding one of the top Democratic presidential candidates.

The protesters were from Direct Action Everywhere, a group opposed to the dairy industry that also interrupted a campaign rally for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in Nevada last month and an event with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Monday.

“Biden’s ties to the dairy industry and indifference to the suffering of farmed animals — something he basically never talks about — flies in the face of everything he claims to stand for,” a spokesperson from Direct Action Everywhere said in a statement Tuesday. “We’re asking him to stand with animal rights advocates, environmental activists, and ordinary citizens — and against the inherent violence of the dairy industry.”

World Health Organization: ‘Fear and Panic’ over Coronavirus ‘Dangerous’; ‘Calm Down’

By Breitbart. World Health Organization director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Monday that the “stigma” surrounding coronavirus was “more dangerous” than the illness itself, and advised people to “calm down.”

“Stigma, to be honest, is more dangerous than the virus itself. Fear and panic are dangerous,” he said, as reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune. “It’s fine to be concerned and worried, but let’s calm down and do the right things.”

Officials were optimistic about the global effort to contain the spread of the illness:

Of the 62 countries affected by COVID-19, 55 have fewer than 100 cases. Only four countries have more than 1,000 cases, Tedros said.

WHO officials said it is rare to see a respiratory pathogen like this virus that can spread widely in the community but can also be contained. The flu cannot be as easily contained, officials said.
