“Greece would not have fallen had it obeyed Polybius in everything, and when Greece did meet disaster, its only help came from him”

In Book VI of his Histories, the ancient Greek historian Polybius described three basic forms of government, each categorized by the number of those in power. He listed monarchy (rule by the one); aristocracy (rule by the few); and democracy (rule by the many).

Polybius described, over time, how each type of government would gradually decline into their various corrupted forms of tyranny, oligarchy and mob rule, respectively.

Polybius believed that Republican Rome had designed a new form of government that could help check this inevitable decline.

Rome combined all three forms of government — monarchy (its elected executives, called consuls); aristocracy (the Senate); and democracy (the popular assemblies).

In this mixed form of government, each branch would check the corrupting ambitions and power of the others.

Polybius, Aristotle and Cicero all praised the construction of a “mixed constitution” and the requirement of a separation of powers within government.

The French nobleman and legal expert Charles-Louis de Secondat, the Baron de Montesquieu, studied the rise and fall of the Roman Republic. He believed that a properly designed government, in order to prevent tyranny, would require three branches of government. He wrote:

If it is to provide its citizens with the greatest possible liberty, a government must have certain features. First, since ‘constant experience shows us that every man invested with power is apt to abuse it … it is necessary from the very nature of things that power should be a check to power’ . This is achieved through the separation of the executive, legislative, and judicial powers of government… [to prevent any one] from acting tyrannically.

The British philosopher John Locke was also keenly interested in a design for government that would prevent it from descending into tyranny. In the late 17th century, Locke argued that monarchs had no “divine right” to rule; instead, he asserted that the source of power lay in the people. Furthermore, he stated that humans were born into this world with certain natural and “inalienable” rights including to “life, liberty and property”.

Locke believed that government could not grant these rights because they were God-given; therefore, no government could take them away or withhold them from the people.

Thomas Jefferson used Locke’s concepts as central tenets when he wrote the Declaration of Independence. He proclaimed the government’s duty to protect the sacred attributes of the individual: “…to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form…”

“…when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”

As well, America’s Founding Fathers repeatedly cited Baron de Montesquieu’s seminal Spirit of the Laws and its emphasis on checks and balances within government.

As James Madison wrote, “the oracle who is always consulted and cited on this subject is the celebrated Montesquieu.”

We conservatives are originalists: If the Constitution’s meaning is not interpreted as the framers intended, if it can be altered at will, then what protects any law from arbitrary interpretation, from the capricious whims of the ill-intentioned?

If the Constitution is “living and breathing”, an amorphous guidebook of suggestions that may freely be interpreted based upon current events, trends, whims or biases, what then are the limits on government? And if the Constitution doesn’t mean what it says, what protects individuals from the encroachment of government intrusion into every aspect of individuals’ lives?

The Tenth Amendment of the Constitution strictly limits the power of the Federal Government. It states, The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people. In the Founders’ view, state and local governments were free to experiment — to serve as “laboratories” in the words of Justice Louis Brandeis — in areas prohibited to the federal government. In the 1980’s, for example, Oregon’s successful welfare reform efforts became the models for subsequent actions by other states and even the federal government.

When the federal government ignores and breaches the Tenth Amendment, it represents an illegal diminution of representative government at the state and local levels. It represents a subtle and insidious attack on individual liberty.

The once-powerful states, which created the federal government by ratifying the Constitution, have become — in the words of Mark Levin — “administrative appendages of the federal government.” The states are subject to ever-increasing federal regulation, strangled by dictates from agencies old and new, and held hostage through billions in federal tax dollars.

Levin asks, “Does anyone believe that the states would have originally ratified the Constitution had they known this would be their fate?”

The path the modern federal government is on today was presciently described by Stuart Chase in 1942. He wrote that the agenda of the Fabian Socialists — who had launched a counter-revolution against America’s founding — was to create an authoritarian and completely centralized government apparatus. The agenda of the Fabian Socialists include:

• Strong, centralized government
• Government-controlled banking, credit and securities exchange (TARP, etc.)
• Government control over employment (the “Employee Free Choice Act” to speed unionization of the workplace)
• Unemployment insurance, old age pensions (lengthy unemployment benefits, Social Security)
• Universal medical care, food and housing programs (Obamacare, food stamps, HUD)
• Access to unlimited government borrowing (massive deficits)
• A managed monetary system (an opaque Federal Reserve)
• Government control over natural energy sources, transportation and agricultural production (drilling moratoriums, the EPA’s regime of “Cap-and-Trade”)
• Government regulation of labor (the Wagner Act, monopolistic power of trade unions)
• and Heavy progressive taxation.

This indeed describes “the road we are traveling”: accelerated by branches of government controlled by Democrats who took an oath to uphold that which they ignore.

While it may no longer be called socialism directly, nonetheless socialism it is. The Fabian Socialist counter-revolution began in earnest in the U.S. in 1933 with the imposition of the “Welfare State” and it has been steadily progressing since.

It confiscates ever more taxes, consolidates ever more power, while bankrupting program after program. And always — always — the federal government proclaims its need for more money and more power, promising that if only it can levy one more tax, enforce one more regulation, create one more program it will be able to solve all of man’s woes.

The Greek historian Thucydides observed that “The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage.” And in writing about the calamitous Peloponnesian War that engulfed and ultimately destroyed his society, he added that, “Few things are brought to a successful issue by impetuous desire, but most by calm and prudent forethought.”

History teaches us that the decline of a society and the demise of a government comes with the institutionalization of corruption and a wanton disregard for the written law. Such is our situation today, wherein the states have become puppets of an all-powerful federal government that confiscates more and more private property while exerting increasing control over every aspect of our lives.

Today our federal government’s most powerful branch is one never conceived by the Framers: the unelected fourth branch of government — the enormous federal bureaucracy — that acts at the president’s behest. It now decides which laws it will enforce and which it will not, from immigration law to Antifa riots.

If we are to protect our society from despotism and decline, whose counsel should we then cherish? Should we honor thousands of years of human experience and the wisdom of history’s greatest philosophers — Polybius, Cicero, Aristotle, Montesquieu, Locke, Jefferson, Adams and Madison among them? Men who understood the nature of a government’s despotic decline and sought to construct a system to counter it?

Or should we disregard their guidance and instead follow the Fabian Socialists? Are these philosophers and founders to be replaced by the likes of Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi?

The greatest bulwark against tyranny in America has always been the Constitution, which codifies our exquisite legal system based upon private property, G-d-given individual liberties and free enterprise.

This is our generation’s fork in the road and the stakes of our decision could not be higher. If we are to protect our society from the inevitable decline and despotism that has infected so many societies since the beginning of time, in whom should we trust? If we are to shield our children from the tyranny against which our founders fought and so many Americans shed blood, in whom should we put our faith?

I contend that we must fight the anti-Constitutional counter-revolution using every political tool at our disposal. We must pledge to return our country to the rule of law, as it was originally defined by our founders and codified in the Constitution. For anything less condemns our descendants to the fate that Thucydides described. The choice is clear. The question is simple.

Which road will you choose?

US, Japan Hold Joint Military Drills in Response to North Korean Missile Launch

The United States and Japan on Tuesday deployed fighter jets for joint exercises in response to North Korea’s test firing of a ballistic missile over Japan.

The drills were held in airspace west of Japan’s Kyushu region, involving eight Japanese fighter jets and four U.S. fighter jets, according to Japan’s Joint Staff.

In a statement [pdf], Japan’s Joint Staff said the security situation surrounding Japan has become “increasingly severe,” citing North Korea’s test-firing of a ballistic missile that flew over Japan early on Tuesday.

“The drills will confirm the Japanese and U.S. forces’ readiness, demonstrate the strong determination of Japan and the United States to deal with any situation, and further strengthen the deterrence of the Japan-U.S. alliance,” it stated. Former Hunter Business Associate: I Would Have Verified Hunter Laptop Story ‘Within Five Minutes’ if Anyone From Facebook, Twitter Reached Out (VIDEO)

During an interview aired on Tuesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” former Hunter Biden business associate Tony Bobulinski stated that if Facebook, Twitter, or anyone else had reached out to him to verify the authenticity of emails sent to him in The New York Post’s Hunter Biden laptop story, he would have produced the email, with the metadata, within minutes, but no one did.

Bobulinski said, “[W]hen The New York Post ran their article, an individual named Andy Stone stepped in. … And throttled down the fact pattern. The interesting thing with that, Tucker, is Andy Stone never reached out to me. He never called my lawyers. My email address was there. I’m easy to get ahold of. Facebook never reached out to me and said, hey, Tony we see this email that The New York Post just published to you, is it real? Can you produce the email to us? Within five minutes, if Twitter, Facebook, anybody else had reached out, I would have produced the email with — everyone wants to talk about the metadata, oh, the emails that are being produced don’t have any metadata — I would have given them the metadata that’s pages long on that email that The New York Post published.”

This study published by Philip Oldfield in January 2022, is eye-opening. Here is the abstract, edited lightly for clarity:

Planned Parenthood Is Outraged a New Netflix Movie Depicts Unborn Baby as Human Life

Planned Parenthood is outraged that “Blonde,” a new movie based on the life of Marilyn Monroe, dared show that an unborn human baby is in fact a life. . .

The movie shows Monroe — who is played by Ana de Armas — having two forced abortions that later haunted her. In one scene, one of the unborn children is shown speaking with Monroe.

“You won’t hurt me this time, will you?” the unborn child asks Monroe. . .

“As film and TV shapes many people’s understanding of sexual and reproductive health, it’s critical these depictions accurately portray women’s real decisions and experiences,” said Caren Spruch of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

“While abortion is safe, essential health care, anti-abortion zealots have long contributed to abortion stigma by using medically inaccurate descriptions of fetuses and pregnancy. Andrew Dominik’s new film, ‘Blonde,’ bolsters their message with a CGI-talking fetus, depicted to look like a fully formed baby,” she complained. IRS Employees Allegedly Stole $400,000 in COVID Aid and Used It to Buy Cars, Go to Vegas

Five IRS employees allegedly received nearly $400,000 after fraudulently applying for more than $1.1 million in relief in government funding intended for small businesses damaged by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Tuesday.

The majority of the fraudulently obtained funds were spent on luxury clothing, jewelry and other personal services, but were also used by one employee to purchase a Mercedes-Benz, while another took vacations to Las Vegas, the DOJ alleged in a press release. The announcement comes less than two weeks after the Department of Labor announced that 1,000 individuals had been charged in connection with the theft of more than $45 billion in fraudulent unemployment insurance benefits extended during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Three of the five employees operated out of Memphis, Tennessee, while the fourth and fifth were based nearby in Cordova, Tennessee, and Olive Branch, Mississippi, respectively, the DOJ reported. It is unclear from the DOJ report whether the employees collaborated or were aware of each other’s schemes.

Three of the employees, Fatina Hewitt, Roderick DeMarco White II and Tina Humes, each plead guilty to one count of wire fraud, while Courtney Quinshe Westmoreland, charged with three counts of wire fraud, and Brian Saulsberry, charged with two counts of wire fraud and two counts of money laundering, are not listed as having entered a plea by the DOJ.

Saulsberry allegedly applied for $501,000 in Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) Program funds, ultimately receiving $171,400 which he spent on a Mercedes-Benz and an investment fund, the DOJ reported. Westmoreland allegedly applied for $32,500 in EIDL and Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) funds and received $11,500, which she spent on personal services and luxuries, such as massages, manicures and clothing.

John Kirby Defends Military Vaccine Mandate While Admitting That He’s ‘Double Boosted’ and Recovering From COVID-19 (VIDEO)

National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications John Kirby, who retired from the U.S. Navy in 2015 with the rank of rear admiral, defended the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for military service members while simultaneously admitting that he is twice boosted but still got the illness himself.

During an interview on Tuesday’s episode of “Fox & Friends” Kirby, who previously served as assistant to the secretary of defense for public affairs, described vaccinations as “a valid military requirement” while also noting that he was speaking from his home due to his own experience with COVID-19.

Kirby said of vaccination that “even if it doesn’t prevent you from getting COVID — I’m double boosted, I got it myself … it makes the symptoms a lot less severe.”

Prominent vaccine advocates, including President Joe Biden and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr. Anthony Fauci, have tested positive for COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated and boosted twice. Biden Slammed for Complaining About Media Shouting Questions: ‘This Guy Routinely Hides From the Press’

President Joe Biden was criticized Tuesday for his response to reporters shouting questions at him while being escorted out of a White House abortion task force meeting.

As they tried to question him, Biden just smiled and said, “You’re among the only press in the world that does this. Seriously, seriously.”

In response, critics slammed Biden for attacking the free press despite refusing to answer their questions and failing to hold press conferences with any degree of frequency.

“This guy routinely hides from the press, rarely takes questions, almost never does pressers, and has the gall to criticize them for trying to ask questions on one of the few opportunities they get,” John Cooper, a communications official for the conservative Heritage Foundation, tweeted.

Ian Haworth, a speaker for Young America’s Foundation and Turning Point USA, tweeted, “In the United Kingdom, the Prime Minister has to publicly defend their own policies during televised debates every week. Yikes: Democrat Candidate Endorses Abortion up Until Birth While Airing Footage of Her Son Being Born

Childbirth is no short of a miracle that demands celebration and awe. But for Democrat candidate Katie Darling, who is challenging Minority Whip Steve Scalise for Louisiana’s 1st Congressional District, giving birth was a great opportunity to peddle the demise of unborn babies in a campaign advertisement.

The ad starts with footage of the pregnant Darling navigating chores as she longingly awaits the arrival of her newest child. The baby is a boy who Darling says will join his older sister as a helper around the family’s farm.

Mere seconds into the ad, Darling’s seemingly perfect world is suddenly clouded when she remembers that babies in Louisiana have a strong chance at life outside of the womb thanks to the state’s near-total abortion ban.

“These days I worry about storms that are stronger and more frequent because of climate change, about our kids’ underperforming public schools, and about Louisiana’s new abortion ban, one of the strictest and most severe in the country,” Darling says in a voiceover.

Trump Turns to Supreme Court on Mar-a-Lago Raid

Former President Donald Trump’s lawyers requested the Supreme Court to overturn a lower court’s ruling regarding the Mar-a-Lago raid, saying Tuesday that not allowing the Special Master to review all the seized documents “erodes public confidence in our system of justice.”

On Sept. 21, the 11th Circuit allowed the Department of Justice (DOJ) to keep looking at “classified” documents the FBI seized from Trump’s Florida residence in August, after the DOJ appealed their case.

Judge Aileen Cannon had previously put a pause on the DOJ’s review while a neutral Special Master was being appointed to review all documents, but after the appeals court’s ruling, the third party watchdog can only review materials not bearing classification markings.

The DOJ now has access to roughly 100 documents bearing classification markings, which Trump’s lawyers have claimed were declassified by the former president.

Trump’s request to the Supreme Court was specifically addressed to Justice Clarence Thomas, and asks for the Special Master to have access to the “classified” materials again, claiming that the 11th Circuit “lacked jurisdiction” to stay Cannon’s order.
