Tennessee Enacts Law Restricting Drag Shows as Red States Mull Copycat Bills

Gov. Bill Lee (R-TN) signed a bill into law Thursday that criminalizes drag show performances in certain public places or anywhere they could be viewed by children.

The drag ban, known as Senate Bill 3, bans “adult cabaret performances” within 1,000 feet of schools, houses of worship, or public parks. The decision came shortly after Lee signed a bill prohibiting minors from accessing gender transition surgeries and hormone therapy.

When SB 3 goes into effect on July 1, first-time violators may be charged with a Class A misdemeanor that is punishable by a $2,500 fine and up to a year in jail. Any future offenses will constitute a Class E felony and carry a maximum six-year prison sentence.

The Tennessee measure was passed with the help of Republican supermajorities in both the state House and the Senate. It comes as nearly a dozen other similar bills are presently working their way through GOP-led state legislatures.

Republican proponents of such measures say that without them, children can be exposed to sexual themes and images.

U.S. Gov’t Was the ‘Greatest Perpetrator of Misinformation’ During Pandemic, Johns Hopkins Doctor Says

Johns Hopkins professor Dr. Marty Makary gave an impassioned speech Tuesday about how the United States government was the “greatest perpetrator of misinformation” during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Makary was testifying before the House COVID subcommittee alongside other top medical experts.

“The greatest perpetrator of misinformation during the pandemic has been the United States government,” Makary said. “Misinformation that COVID was spread through surface transmission, that vaccinated immunity was far greater than natural immunity, that masks were effective, now we have the definitive Cochran review, what do you do with that review? Cochran is the most authoritative evidence body in all of medicine, it has been for decades. Do you just ignore it? Not talk about it?”

“… that myocarditis was more common after the infection than the vaccine. Not true. It’s 4-28 times more common after the vaccine. That young people benefit from a booster, misinformation. Our two top experts on vaccines quit the FDA in protest over this particular issue — using boosters in young, healthy people. The data was never there, that’s why the CDC never disclosed hospitalization rates among boosted Americans under age 50.”

“Over and over again we’ve seen something that goes far beyond using your best judgment with the information at hand,” he continued. “We’ve seen something which is unforgivable and that is the weaponization of medical research itself. The CDC putting out its own shoddy studies, like their own study looking at natural immunity, looking at one state for two months when they had data for years on all 50 states. Why did they only report that one sliver of data? Why did they salami slice the database? Bill Maher: ‘The Trans Community Is Asking For Too Much’ (VIDEO)

In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Bill Maher commented on transgenderism, saying he believes that the transgender community is “asking for too much,” adding that activists “absolutely do want to shut down debate.”

Discussing “wokeness,” President Biden, and the 2024 presidential race, Maher made a string of comments regarding the vast differences he sees between what he calls “liberalism” and “wokeness.”

Maher described the liberal point of view regarding transgender people as believing that they should “freely live the lives that they should live, with all the dignity and protection under the law that we can afford them, like anybody else in society.”

However, the comedian defined the “woke point of view” as “well, babies are born now, and ‘jump ball,’ we don’t know what they are.” . . .

“It’s not wrong to have this discussion; this is something that is very new. To shut down debate with these words like ‘phobia,’ you’re ‘phobic,’ and you hate, we don’t hate, there’s no hate, we’re not phobic, we’re not afraid, we’re just discussing something that involves children,” Maher explained. Researcher Worries Government Is Wrongly Declaring ‘Safety’ Near Ohio Train Crash

A senior researcher at Texas A&M University expressed concern that the EPA and other government agencies are neglecting to provide full information about the risks posed to residents of East Palestine, Ohio, in the wake of the Norfolk Southern train derailment and chemical fallout.

Local and state authorities previously evacuated all residents within one mile of the February 3 derailment and started a controlled burn of industrial chemicals on the vehicle to decrease the risk of an explosion, which could have sent shrapnel throughout the small town. Vinyl chloride, a known human carcinogen used to manufacture PVC, was emitted from five train cars in the form of massive plumes of black smoke visible throughout eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

Analysts from the Texas A&M Superfund Research Center and the Center for Atmospheric Particle Studies at Carnegie Mellon University announced last week that nine of the 50 chemicals the EPA said were present on the derailed train have higher concentrations than normal in East Palestine. They were especially concerned with above-normal levels of acrolein, a substance with a pungent odor that is highly toxic when inhaled, and warned of health concerns if above-normal levels of benzene, naphthalene, and vinyl chloride persist in the area.

The findings came after the EPA said that air and water quality tests have not produced cause for concern, while state-level authorities in both Ohio and Pennsylvania reached similar conclusions.

Ivan Rusyn, the director of the Texas A&M Superfund Research Center and the chair of the Texas A&M Interdisciplinary Faculty of Toxicology, told The Daily Wire that the officials “did not provide the full context into which the actual data collected by them could be placed.” He said that researchers from the two universities translated “the raw data posted by the agencies online” to determine the effects of continual inhalation and found that some of the chemicals would pose dangers if they persist for months or years. China Warns Elon Musk After COVID Lab Leak Comments

China is warning Twitter CEO Elon Musk against sharing posts that promote the lab leak theory of the coronavirus, suggesting that such commentary could hurt Tesla’s relationship with the company’s second-largest market.

The cryptic warning came on a social media post by the state-run Global Times newspaper. The writer was reacting to Musk commenting on a tweet that mentioned the Department of Energy’s conclusion that COVID-19 originated at a lab in Wuhan, China.

The original tweet, from the account “Kanekoa The Great,” questioned whether Dr. Anthony Fauci, former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was involved in the development of COVID-19 because he had funded “gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab.”

Ousted Chicago Mayor Says She Was Treated Unfairly Because of Her Race, Gender

Ousted Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot explained away her Tuesday election loss as a result of her being a “Black woman in America.”

Lightfoot faced eight challengers and finished Tuesday night’s election in third place, failing to get enough support to continue into a runoff election. Reporters pressed her on whether she believed she was treated unfairly during the campaign process.

“I’m a Black woman in America. Of course,” she responded, according to reports.

“Regardless of tonight’s outcome, we fought the right fights and we put this city on a better path,” Lightfoot said Tuesday night, adding that serving as Chicago’s mayor was “the honor of a lifetime.” . . .

Pentagon Investigates, Gives All Clear Over Ukraine Fraud Allegations

There is no evidence any of the billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars spent on weapons and aid sent to Ukraine has been lost to corruption or diverted into criminal hands, the Pentagon’s inspector general said Tuesday, before adding investigations are still at an early stage.

The assurance came after members of Congress persistently questioned how closely the U.S. is tracking its aid to ensure it is not subject to fraud.

AP reports Robert P. Storch was pressed by House members several times about any fraud findings. He said a number of tips and allegations have come in to a new hotline, but there have been “limited findings” to date, with many reports pending.

Storch, who was testifying with other Pentagon leaders before the House Armed Services Committee, repeatedly qualified his remarks by saying he did not want to talk about investigations that have not yet been completed.

Greek FM Calls for Immediate End to Ukraine War Without Conditions

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias has called for an immediate end to the war in Ukraine without any conditions and called on both Russia and Ukraine to begin negotiations.

Foreign Minister Dendias made his statements on the one-year anniversary of the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine saying, “What we ask is for this war to end immediately, completely and with no conditions because this is the only way for real dialogue to begin.”

He stated that both sides should have a dialogue based on the principles of the charter of the United Nations and added that international law needed to be respected and implemented, Ekathimerini reports.

“The Greeks do not have feelings of hostility for the Russian people. The thing we are against is revisionism and the created tragedy. Greece and its allies will continue to support Ukraine for as long as this irrational war continues,” he added.

The comments come after Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that Greece would not be sending Russian-made S-300 anti-air missile systems to Ukraine as the country currently has nothing to replace them with. Giant Jurassic-Era Insect Rediscovered Outside Walmart

A giant Jurassic-era insect missing from eastern North America for at least half a century has been spotted clinging to the side of a Walmart big box in Arkansas.

The identification of the giant lacewing – Polystoechotes punctata – in an urban area of Fayetteville, Arkansas, sent scientists into raptures. The discovery of a species that was abundant in the age of the dinosaurs but which was thought to have disappeared from large swaths of North America has stoked speculation that there may be entire populations tucked away in remote parts of the Ozark mountains.

The giant lacewing was found by Michael Skvarla, director of Penn State’s insect identification lab. In a report on the university’s website this week, he explained that he made the discovery in 2012, when he was a doctoral student at the University of Arkansas.

“I remember it vividly, because I was walking into Walmart to get milk and I saw this huge insect on the side of the building,” Skvarla said.

‘White as Snow’ Activist Who Allegedly Faked Racial Identity Resigns After Own Mom Outs Her

A Muslim progressive activist who has allegedly been lying for years about her ethnic identify, claiming to be a woman of color, has resigned from her position as senior inclusion officer of a Philadelphia-based social justice group.

“Raquel Saraswati, who is facing public allegations that she misrepresented her background and past associations, has informed us of her intention to separate from the organization,” American Friends Service Committee rep Layne Mullett told USA Today.

Saraswati, 39, who was born Rachel Elizabeth Seidel, was the chief equity, inclusion and culture officer of the Philadelphia-based, progressive Quaker group that fights “violence, inequality and oppression.”

She was recently outed by the Intercept for pretending to be of Latin, South Asian and Arab descent — and her mother, Carol Perone, told the outlet that the woman is actually of British, German and Italian lineage.
