Elon Musk Sparks Controversy by Addressing ‘Pizzagate’ Conspiracy on X

Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk stirred controversy on X, formerly Twitter, by engaging with a user’s post connecting the founder of Media Matters with the “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory. Musk, with a massive following of 160 million, responded with a simple “Weird,” drawing attention to the ongoing lawsuit between X and Media Matters. The lawsuit was initiated after a Media Matters report identified major brands’ ads running alongside pro-Nazi content on X, potentially leading to an exodus of advertisers from the platform.

“Pizzagate” originated during the 2016 US presidential election and falsely alleged a pedophilia ring involving prominent Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, operating out of a Washington, DC pizza shop, specifically Comet Ping Pong.

Musk’s response on X adds a new layer to the ongoing clash between X and Media Matters. The controversy surrounding “Pizzagate” and Musk’s engagement prompted a statement from Media Matters president Angelo Carusone, who accused Musk of making “meritless legal threats” and promoting “bizarre conspiracy theories.”
