Miller: Same Revolutionary Beliefs Still At Issue Today

John Kennedy, in his Inaugural Address, spoke words that could just have easily been uttered on Independence Day. “We observe today not a victory of party, but a celebration of freedom—symbolizing an end, as well as a beginning—signifying renewal, as well as change.” He continued, “The world is very different now…And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.”

What Makes You A Patriot?

America is one of the few nations in the world where owning a gun is widely considered normal, unthreatening, even patriotic. Being trusted to possess a little bit of power independent of the state is what makes us citizens rather than subjects. Which is why it’s so appropriate to exercise this right on Independence Day.
