Photographer Behind Viral Images of Starving Polar Bear Has an Important Climate Change Question

The narrative behind the viral photo of a polar bear starving, reportedly thanks to climate change, has been called into question by the National Geographic photographer who took it in the first place.

In an article for the August issue of National Geographic titled “Starving-Polar-Bear Photographer Recalls What Went Wrong,” Cristina Mittermeier talks about the intended message of the image versus the message that was received. . .

“Photographer Paul Nicklen and I are on a mission to capture images that communicate the urgency of climate change. Documenting its effects on wildlife hasn’t been easy,” she wrote in the article. “With this image, we thought we had found a way to help people imagine what the future of climate change might look like. We were, perhaps, naive. The picture went viral — and people took it literally.” . .

The image she is referencing shows an emaciated polar bear with hardly any fur covering its bony frame. In a video that was also taken of the bear, it can be seen slowly moving through the terrain, rummaging through an empty can. . .

“The first line of the National Geographic video said, ‘This is what climate change looks like’ — with ‘climate change’ then highlighted in the brand’s distinctive yellow. In retrospect, National Geographic went too far with the caption.” (Read more from “Photographer Behind Viral Images of Starving Polar Bear Has an Important Climate Change Question” HERE)

MSM: Therapists Claim Anxiety Disorders Are Being Caused by Trump

By The Blaze. Mainstream media outlets are promoting a story that claims therapists are treating more patients for anxiety because of the words and actions of President Donald Trump. . .

The alleged disorder supposedly affects both Trump supporters and non-supporters, and is related to some of his policies and tweets, according to reports.

In a piece that sounds more like satire, Canada’s CBC News cites several therapists who say their patients are afraid Trump may “blow us all up.”

“There is a fear of the world ending,” Washington, D.C., therapist Elisabeth LaMotte told the news outlet. “It’s very disorienting and constantly unsettling.”

The supposed stress and collective anxiety is referred to as “Trump Anxiety Disorder,” abut there is no official diagnosis. (Read more from “MSM: Therapists Claim Anxiety Disorders Are Being Caused by Trump” HERE)

In a Divided U.S., Therapists Treating Anxiety Are Hearing the Same Name Over and Over: Donald Trump

By CBC. “Is he gonna blow us all up?”

So inquired one of Elisabeth LaMotte’s patients recently, fretting out loud about the volatility of U.S. President Donald Trump’s actions during a therapy session at her Washington practice.

It was a rhetorical question — one that predated Trump’s threats of a showdown with Iran this week. But if the question wasn’t meant in earnest, the politically induced anxiety LaMotte is hearing about from her clients certainly is, says the founder of the D.C. Counselling and Psychotherapy Center.

She refers to it as a “collective anxiety” among patients who feel on edge about how potentially dire the president’s decisions could be.

“There is a fear of the world ending,” she said. “It’s very disorienting and constantly unsettling.” (Read more from “In a Divided U.S., Therapists Treating Anxiety Are Hearing the Same Name Over and Over: Donald Trump” HERE)

Trump Claims He Has Highest Poll Numbers in the History of the Republican Party

By Daily Wire. . .The president doesn’t name the poll or polls referenced in the tweet, nor does he elaborate in subsequent tweets.

According to a New York Times chart compiled using data from Gallup, President Trump’s approval among Republicans is indeed quite high, sitting at roughly 90%. However, at this point in his presidency, he still falls well below George W. Bush, who saw an incredible increase in support following the 9/11 terror attacks.

Moreover, as many other media outlets are reporting, reliable presidential approval polling doesn’t appear to stretch any further back than Harry Truman, who became president in April of 1945 following the death of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Election polling by Gallup appears to go back to 1936. (Read more from “Trump Claims He Has Highest Poll Numbers in the History of the Republican Party” HERE)

Trump Backers Stand by President in Face of Russia Criticism — CBS Poll

By CBS News. Nearly all Americans say Russian meddling in the 2018 midterm elections would be unacceptable, even if their party was the beneficiary of any interference. But the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 campaign remains a divisive political issue, with Republicans more likely to doubt the FBI and U.S. intelligence agencies and more likely to back the president, a new CBS News poll found.

Half of Republicans say that hearing criticisms of President Trump on the Russia issue makes them want to defend him more. Another 42 percent say they want to wait to see what the facts show.

Seventy percent of Republicans call the Russia investigation a “witch hunt,” while Democrats call it a “critical” matter of national security (77 percent). Democrats, however, say they believe the issue speaks to the president’s character (79 percent) as well as national security, but Republicans disagree, seeing it as a deliberate attempt to slow the president’s agenda (81 percent) and feeling he is facing more resistance from the political establishment than other presidents have (86 percent). Rudy Giuliani Drops Bombshell on Cohen Tapes

President Donald Trump’s lead attorney, Rudy Giuliani, made the talk show rounds this weekend to give insight into the president’s strategy for handling tapes made by his former attorney, Michael Cohen. According to Giuliani, experts believe someone may have “messed with” a tape obtained by CNN, and that of 183 Cohen tapes obtained by investigators, Trump appears on only one.

Speaking to Fox News Saturday evening, Giuliani claimed experts and “retired FBI agents” who’ve listened to the tapes believe someone may have “played” with the contents, and that the recording, heard on CNN, is a “tape of a tape.”“Now that we’ve seen the full scope of Cohen and Lanny Davis’ deception, we don’t trust anything,” Giuliani declared, adding that he and his legal team are working on obtaining the original recording to determine whether Cohen cut, edited, or mixed the tape. . .

Giuliani also told Fox that he believes there are other tapes, but that those tapes don’t feature the president. He repeated the claim on “Face the Nation” Sunday morning, telling host John Dickerson that the Trump legal team knows of “something like 183 recordings,” one that features Cohen speaking to the president about paying a hefty sum to a Playboy model, and “11 or 12 others” that feature Cohen speaking with reporters about his interactions with Trump. This Is What Trump Will Resort to If Wall Isn’t Built

President Trump said in Sunday morning tweet that he’d be “willing to ‘shut down'” the federal government if Congress does not send him a bill to secure the U.S. border — a bill that includes the wall. . .

Trump once again made his case that many people sneaking into America are using children for “sinister purposes.” He also ripped the “dumbest” immigration laws and said people should vote Republican in the mid-terms if they want the border secured. By Daily Wire. New surveillance footage released on Friday shows one of Obama’s former senior officials taking a picture up a woman’s skirt in July 2016 at a D.C. Metro station.

William Mendoza, who was Obama’s director of the White House Initiative on American Indian and Alaska Native Education, pleaded guilty to a single count of attempted voyeurism after he resigned from his position in November 2016, the Daily Mail reported earlier this year.

Mendoza, who was making $140,000 a year working for Obama, was only given a 90-day suspended prison sentence in addition to a $100 fine and one-year probation.

Protesters Heckle Border Patrol Commissioner During Interview – Here’s What They Did

On Friday, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) commissioner Kevin McAleenan became the latest Trump administration official to face public harassment over the family migrant crisis at the border.

According to the Washington Examiner, McAleenan encountered three protesters while attending an event at the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, D.C.:

. . .

Standing in the audience, another protester appeared to complain that detaining children and parents was not a bipartisan goal. As he left the room, he quoted the poem on the Statue of Liberty, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.”

The Bipartisan Policy Center described the event as a forum for discussing the agency and its challenges.

Watch: Ocasio-Cortez Supporters Asked to Explain How We’ll Pay for ‘All That Free Stuff’

After her upset victory in the Democratic primary over incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley last month, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been touted as “the future” of the Democratic Party, and her open embrace of Democratic Socialism has been enthusiastically embraced by a growing number of Democrats, particularly young Democrats. But how much do the 28-year-old candidate’s avid supporters truly understand her particular brand of socialism?

Campus Reform’s Cabot Phillips took to the streets of New York’s 14th Congressional District to see if the young voters who support her Democratic Socialist vision for America have any ideas about how to actually pay for “all that free stuff” — including “Medicare for all,” guaranteed jobs for every American, “housing as a human right,” and free college and trade school for all.

After getting enthusiastic endorsement of Ocasio-Cortez and Democratic Socialism from all the interviewees, Phillips asked them how they thought America would pay for all of the free stuff she’s promising.

“All of the free things? Well, some of it should come from taxes, but the government should pay for it,” another young lady said. When Phillips noted that “the government is funded by taxes,” she responded, “Yes.”

“I don’t know where the money would come from, but they can figure it out,” said one guy with a laugh. When Phillips suggested “more taxes on the rich people,” the guy replied, “For sure, man. I’m like, they can afford it.” (Read more from “Watch: Ocasio-Cortez Supporters Asked to Explain How We’ll Pay for ‘All That Free Stuff'” HERE)

Man Who Stripped Nude at Planet Fitness Nominated for ‘Journalist of the Year’

I would like to nominate Eric Stagno as journalist of the year. Because a journalist follows the truth wherever it leads, and Stagno dialed that calling all the way up to 11 and then some last weekend in New Hampshire, when he was arrested at a Planet Fitness for exercising in the nude.

Charges of indecent exposure, lewdness, and disorderly conduct followed, which led to Stagno to make one of the great observations in all of journalism history: “I thought this was a judgment-free zone,” he said.

And all the angels blew their trumpets! Utterly brilliant analysis from Stagno, who, unlike Katy Tur, wasn’t caught questioning the validity of the Constitution earlier this month before this week deciding that you aren’t a real journalist if you work at Fox News or the Daily Caller. So if you are keeping score at home: A real journalist thinks the Constitution blows.

But Stagno doesn’t have time for all that woke. He’s got hypocrisy to unveil, and unveil it he did when, according to sources, he “walked in, stripped down right there in front, left the clothes and belongings at the front desk, walked back and forth across the gym a couple of times and then settled in over at the yoga mats.”

Others at the gym reported feeling “sick,” “unsafe” and “disgusted.” What a bunch of bigots. Don’t they remember Yvette Cormier, whom I wrote about for USA Today and Townhall back in 2015? She tried to make sure that only women were in the women’s locker room at her local Planet Fitness because the disrobing by a transgender man made her feel unsafe – so they canceled her membership. Because of their “no judgment policy.” Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think? Like rain on your wedding day, or a free ride when you’ve already paid.

Where exactly are the true boundaries of that policy, asked Stagno? Do you owe Yvette Cormier an apology? Is your catchy slogan just a façade for getting to unfairly discriminate against cis men?

Nah, Stagno didn’t really ask those questions, because as you may have guessed by now, he isn’t really a journalist. And you know who else really isn’t a journalist? The countless partisan hacks like Tur who light gender differences and the First Amendment on fire daily but won’t be bothered to entertain how Stagno – who may very well be insane – nonetheless just unraveled their entire stupid worldview with one downward dog pose in the nude.

On the one hand, disgusted women who feel unsafe will be protected from the pervs in their midst. On the other hand, disgusted women who feel unsafe will be forced to celebrate the pervs in their midst or else.

There’s only one way such an outcome is possible: The tribalism of those making up rules like “no judgment” is untethered from reason and dangerously out of control. Or as I wrote more than three years ago concerning Yvette Cormier:

The “right side of history” evolves fast. Today’s lunacy is tomorrow’s new normal. That’s because the debate over homosexuality and sexual morality has never really been about “tolerance.” This is really about using whatever means necessary to compel people to believe and practice what you believe. In giving Cormier the boot, Planet Fitness is celebrated for the very acts for which Christians are attacked. That’s why there’s no intellectually honest answer to the question how come Planet Fitness can decide whom it wants to do business with on moral grounds, but a Christian baker or florist cannot.

I’m really sick of being right about stuff like that.

Planet Fitness was full of hypocrites then. It is full of hypocrites now. Because the double-minded man is unstable in all of his ways. If this were not so, that business would have been shut down a long time ago because no one would be caught dead supporting such a silly place.

But we love our hypocrisies. We count on them. We nurture them. And then we wield them as weapons. Even to promote moral madness.

Which brings us back to Stagno, who looks like a 21st-century Rasputin. So perhaps it’s only fitting that the spitting image of the mad monk himself used his psychosis to convict us of our own. Trump Slams Cohen Claim That He Knew of Trump Tower Meeting With Kremlin Lawyer

President Trump on Friday slammed his longtime lawyer’s claim that he knew about a Trump Tower meeting during the campaign between his son Donald Trump Jr. and a Kremlin-associated lawyer who promised damaging information on Hillary Clinton.

“I did NOT know of the meeting with my son, Don jr,” the president wrote on Twitter early Friday. “Sounds to me like someone is trying to make up stories in order to get himself out of an unrelated jam (Taxi cabs maybe?).”

Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, a target in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, accused the then-presidential candidate of having advance notice of the infamous June, 2016 meeting, CNN reported. He is reportedly willing to make that claim to Mueller’s investigators.

Trump’s mention of taxi cabs refers to a federal investigation into Cohen’s business affairs, including his owning New York City taxicab medallions.

Cohen has distanced himself from his former client of over a decade since coming under scrutiny for claims that he paid off women who had affairs with Trump to defuse negative stories about the candidate during the campaign.
